How do I flatten images in Illustrator?

The Object>Flatten transparency does not change the kb for the document.
I'm trying to make the piece smaller so I can send it via drop box or
yousendit quickly. The original is 55+kb and takes a couple of hours to
download (I'm not in a community so I don't have really fast internet). I
thought if I could flatten the images it might help but Object>Flatten
doesn't seem to work. Would it change the kbs or leave them the same and
just make it send faster?

I am experiencing an issue in Adobe Illustrator.
When attempting to import picture files in Illustrator from PhotoShop, the image appears blurred/pixellated. The image (a .psd file) is converted in Illustrator to a .ai file. I create vector (flattened) images in PhotoShop, which should maintain their picture clarity and quality regardless of what program the vectored image is opened with. Somehow, they are becoming pixellated when converted to .ai files in Illustrator.
I use both Adobe CS6 and Adobe Creative Cloud
Is there a setting or solution that I can implement to rectify this issue?

Thank you for your replies and for providing feedback.
I am aware that vector format files are only for illustrator. However, I believe you can make a smart object in photoshop using the vector art and it will keep its vector file format in photoshop allowing it to not pixelate.
I would be more interested in seeing if uninstalling and reinstalling the programs would have anything to do with it and also trying to find the settings. Would anyone happen to know if this will resolve the issue? I am hoping this is correct forum in which to post this topic/issue.

You might try this method: with the image file on the Desktop Control-click on it and select the Copy option in the contextual menu. Next go to the image in iWeb and click on it until it's selected and do a paste. It will replace the photo but I don't know if it will avoid the border/frame that the page layout adds to all photos added to the page.

How can I resolve: cannot save any type of image in Illustrator CS6 on Windows XP SP3?

I have a user who is on Windows XP SP3 and he cannot save any images in Illustrator CS6. When he selects eitheer of the save buttons, the location window comes up but nothing happens after that. We have given him admin rights and permissions for the computer and Illustrator, the UAC is off, we have deleted the pref folder, and we have done a reinstall of the software . Other users can log onto the same machine and Illustrator works fine for them, but; this particular user, who is the primary user of the computer, cannot save his work using the program. How can we fix this

Flush out temp files and check disk permissions and quota. He may simply be running out of local storage space.

Hello! I am trying to flatten an image in Photoshop while keeping my transparent background. When I flatten, it gives me this white background instead. Someone posted this, "thanks for the help. I've seemed to of figured it out. what I did was>merge all visible layers(except for the background layer),>command and click on the layer to select all>flatten image>command j>deselect> and then delete the flatten layer. this gave me the transparent background I was looking for." but it didn't help me. The version of Photoshop I am using is Photoshop CS5.1. Whenever I flatten an image, it makes a white background, and gets rid of my transparent background.

Now I want to take that Photoshop file and transfer it back to Illustrator but the the edges on the object are very jagged and rough whilst the object in Photoshop is smooth and the transition of gradients is smooth.

To edit pixel you should use Photoshop. There are workarounds to crop pixel images in Illy, but all demand that you embed the image. Then it gets converted into the document's color space, which might not be desired. So do your pixel editing in Photoshop.

Hey guys, I have a couple of questions wanted to know if you could help me out. I know these are probably geared more toward photoshop but I was just curious. Under the Layer menu there is a function called 'Rasterize', what does this do and what is it for?
Second one, let's say I wanted to send a file to the printer from photoshop. Would I want to flatten the image (also under the Layer menu at the bottom) to send a smaller file size or send the file as separate layers? What is the better of the two?
Lastly, if you have a vector image in illustrator or photoshop is it preferrable to keep it vector rather than raster for any reason(s)?

Hi everyone,
I need to flatten some images in a pdf. It is a thirty page pdf and when printed all the images have transparent boxes around them. So far the only solution I know is to take each page into photoshop, flatten the image and reinsert the image back into the pdf. This of course is taking forever. I was wondering if Acrobat has any built in tools to take care of this kind of issue? I am using Acrobat X pro on Mac running 10.8.5.. I have tried using "preview transparent objects" tool with the raster set to 100 and vectors to 0 but it didn't seem to make a differnce. Any help would be appreciated.

What I was refering to by flattening is the "flatten image" function in Photoshop. As in the option directly below merge visable and merge down in the layers flyout menu. For some reason running that function or the rasterize function in the object menu in illustrator is the only way I can make sure transparecny boxs dont show up when I print through my Fiery Rip software. Like I mentioned this method works well with individual pages in multiple page pdfs, but I often have to do this for many images at a time. It would be nice to be able to do the same thing in Acrobat to the whole pdf all at one time.( Of course what would really be nice would be if people would submitt their files correctly to avoid this problem in the first place but that is asking way to much)
