How do I format TOC to 2 columns?

Good morning all. I have been searching and cannot find a clear answer to this question: Am I able to format my TOC into more than 1 column? I'd like to create a 2 column TOC, if possible. I am using a landscape orientation to a US legal size page.
I tried pre-formatting a discrete layout part within a page so it has 2 columns and insofar as text goes, the columns seem to work fine. However, when I try to generate my TOC, the result is always 1 single column that appears to be an uneditable unit. I can edit the TOC individual entry formatting, but not change the number of columns.
I already learned the hard way, Pages ignores everything before the TOC section, and won't even catch all my carefully crafted Headings. TOC function seems buggy, or at least opaque to me.
So... anybody out there know how to change the TOC generation from 1 column to 2 columns?
Thanks!
Russell

Insert a column break at the end of the TOC. Select the TOC and click in the Format bar the column button and choose 2.

    Hi Juergen,
    I found Your blog and found it  really interesting... though I was not able to use it: I (like Jun Li is asking, I guess) need to use a dynamic text, containing formatting informations (according the xhtml syntax).
    I tried to pass it to the form by an ABAP-dictionary based interface and by means of the context (in a webdynpro page), but both tries failed.
    Some suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
    Thankyou

  • How can i change the Format of my DATE column?

    I need to change the date format for a whole column. At present i can do MM-DD-YYYY. I need to change this this to DD-MMM-YYYY.
    I know about the to_date function, i tried to apply it to change the format of my whole column by doing the following.....
    CREATE TABLE "IT220_DATEHOLIDAY"
    "DEPARTID" VarChar(2)NOT NULL ENABLE,
    "HOLCODE" VARCHAR2(2)NOT NULL ENABLE,
    "DEPARDATE" DATE,
    to_date('DATE','DD-MMM-YYYY'), <<<change DATE column to DD-MMM-YYYY
    CONSTRAINT "DATEHOLIDAY_PK" PRIMARY KEY ("DEPARTID") ENABLE
    ORA-00902: invalid datatype <<<<This was the error message i received.
    I am aware that the to_date function is supposed to be used to change strings into a certain format. I guess this means you cant do it with columns? Is there anyway i can format the whole column or do i have to do each string of data entered one by one?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello Jay,
    I'm not sure you hit the right forum, as this doesn't seem to be a problem with APEX.
    Anyway:
    You can't use that function on a table like that, and as you already suggested, the to_date-function expects a string value.
    It seems you also have a misunderstanding of the basic datatypes in the database. DATE is such a datatype and is stored an internal format you don't need to care about. Each time your request the value, the database will give you a string representation according to either your locale or you give a certain formatting mask.
    The same applies to insert or update operations: you hand in either a variable of type DATE or use a function like to_date to create an "object" of type date.
    You may be interested in reading the documentation of the [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e16508/toc.htm]Oracle Database Concepts. The section concerning datatype DATE can be found here:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e16508/tablecls.htm#CBBGJHJC
    An overview of formatting options can be found here:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e17118/sql_elements004.htm#SQLRF00212
    So to answer your question: You would format it as part of your insert operation, taking a string and convert it using to_date.

  • How Do I Format Heads That Span 2 Columns in Text Flow?

    I am working on a report fomatted in two columns. The report is divided into chapters than begin on a new page. No problem with that. But within each chapter, there are subheads that span across both columns preceed by a 6 point rule. I can do this easily if I interrupt the flow of the chain of text boxes. But how do I format this so that rule and the spanned head move along the text chain as necessary as I make changes or additions to the text?
    Just type be clear, here is a typical page secuence.
    Page 1 - 2 columns
    Page 2 - 2 columns
    Page 3 - 2 column at the top third of the page, then a rule going all the way across both columns, then a headline that also goes across the 2 columns, then the remainder of the page goes back to the 2 column format.
    Page 4 - 2 columns
    Page 5 - 2 columns

    You can also use an inline text frame with text wrap applied, but I'm not clear how that would work in the middle of a page if all of the text above the rule is supposed to be one "entity" and all below another (i.e. the text in the first column should jump to the second column when you get to the rule, then after the headline you should restart in the first column, and when that is full jump back to the second column). It seems to me that you would need separate frames for the two parts.

  • How do you format cell size in numbers for multiple cells at the same time?

    How do you format the cell size of multiple cells at once in numbers?

    select the cells you want to format by clicking at the top-left most cell, then shift click the bottom-right most cell.
    Then open the inspector by selecting the menu item "View > Show Inspector", then click the table inspector segment:
    now use the row height and column width fields to adjust as needed.
    You can also select multiple rows and columns by clicking in an active tables row/column header, then dragging to select rows (or column), then hover the cursor on the line the separates rows (or columns) until the cursor changes to a bar with arrows, then click, hold, and drag as needed.

  • APEX CSS - How do I get data in report columns to wrap?

    I found information here http://www.orafaq.com/wiki/APEX_FAQ
    About How do I get data in report columns to wrap?
    This works and another way to do it is by adding the CSS directly into the
    Home>Application Builder>Application 137>Page 1>Report Attributes>Column Attributes page
    in the Column Formatting area. I added 'white-space:normal' and this works in FF but in
    IE it has a different behavior.
    In FireFox
    testasdgadhad
    gadfadgadgadg
    adgafhsrgjsgnsfg

    dfhadfh
    In Internet Explorer
    testasdgadhad gadfadgadgadg adgafhsrgjsgnsfg nsdfbadfafhafha dfhadfh
    Is there a way to force it so it display in IE the same way that it displays in FF?
    The correct display format is FF.
    Thanks,
    Nestor :)

    I have try this because I found it during a search and it makes no difference in IE.
    This is what I am using now 'display: block; width: 100px;max-width:100px;white-space:normal'
    I also tried 'display:block; width:500px'
    If I use the values 'normal' or 'pre' for white-space' it works in FireFox but not in IE, The display block
    does not seem to make a difference. It seems that all I need is 'white-space:normal' but again
    it does not works on IE.
    Thanks,

  • Sum / Format on APEX_ITEM.TEXT columns

    Hi! I have two questions :
    In apex 3.2, on an updateable report, I am using APEX_ITEM.TEXT for a column.
    1) The data contained in this cell are hours (so numeric and the sum should work). I am not able to get a sum on this column. I am checking the "sum" field in the report attributes. All in can see is the last line with "0" in it.
    Anybody has an idea on how to have the sum on this column?
    2) How can I have a format on the APEX_ITEM.TEXT column ? I tried to put 90D0 in the number/date format but it does nothing.
    Thanks!

    Sorry, it was long before I answer.
    First of all, thank you so much for your idea! I am now able to get the sum dynamically! Here's how :
    I created this javascript function. The variable myName is the name of the inputs and myHeader is the value you get in the td tag <td class="t20data" headers="HrsDim">
    function updateSum(myName, myHeader)
         myArray = document.getElementsByName(myName);
         mySum = 0;
         for (var i=0; i < myArray.length; i++)
              val = myArray.value
              if (val == Number(val)){
                   mySum = mySum + Number(val);
         $('td[headers=' + myHeader + ']').last().text(mySum).addClass("sum");
    In my apex item's attribute I added this :onchange="updateSum(this.name, 'HrsDim')"
    Works like a charm!!
    Thanks again!!!

  • What is data format "Hypertext Link" in column properties??

    Hi,
    What is data format "Hypertext Link" in column properties? How to use it?
    Can I use column value to navigate to other report without using "Value Interaction" in column properties.

    By changing the data format to say HTML, or Hypertext link, you can add HTML content/HTML tags within the column formula.
    You can create a column formula that would resolve into a dynamic hyperlink and pass parameters by using Go Url. Check out Chapter 11 in the Oracle® Business Intelligence Presentation Services Administration Guide

  • How Can i Store photo (image) in column of table

    Dear Experts,
    I need to store a employee photo in column so how can i do tha same.

    This assumes that the images in question currently reside on the database server. If you want to upload images into the database from a client machine, you will need an extra step where you move the files to the appropriate directory or directories on the server. This example will store the images in a BLOB column, rather than a much more flexible interMedia ORDImage column. A BLOB column is fine if you only want to store and retrieve the image, but interMedia gives you significantly more flexibility to manipulate the image, extract metadata, etc.
    Create the directory
    First, you will want to tell Oracle where it can find the images you want to insert into the database. The easiest way to do this is to create a directory object. In this case, I will be loading images from 'c:\temp\img\'.
    CREATE DIRECTORY images AS 'c:\temp\img\'
    If you don't have the CREATE DIRECTORY privilege, you will need to have someone else, like your DBA, create the directory and grant you READ access to it.
    GRANT READ ON DIRECTORY images TO scott;
    Create the Table to Hold the Images
    CREATE TABLE images (
    image_name VARCHAR2( 100 ),
    mime_type VARCHAR2( 100 ),
    content BLOB
    Create a Stored Procedure to Load the Image
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE load_image( file_name VARCHAR2 )

    dbms_lob.fileOpen ( file_lob, dbms_lob.file_readOnly );
    dbms_lob.loadFromFile( binary_lob,

  • Selectively Format Groups with Multiple Columns

    I have a bit of an obscure task I've been trying to hammer out to no avail.  I've searched quite a bit but can't seem to find anyone else who has attempted this.  I have two group by statements, one is a category and the other is a rank.  What I'm trying to do is organize the report so that there are category rows and below each category row is a set of columns for each rank with their associated values as such:
    category1
    rank1     rank2     rank3     rank4
    value1   value1    value1   value1
    value2   value2    value2   value2
    category2
    rank1     rank2     rank3
    value1   value1    value1
    value2   value2    value2
    I've tried using details>Section Expert>>Layout>Format Groups with multiple column.  Unfortunately, this applies to both groups putting the categories into columns instead of rows, making a mess.  Does anyone know of a way to selectively put groups into columns and ensure alignment?  In the above example the user would be able to compare rank values from multiple categories since they all line up.  Any help with this would be very much appreciated.

    Hi,
    Have you tried using a crosstab? Give this a shot:
    1) Group the report on Category
    2) Create a new group header section. Group Header b
    3) Place a crosstab in this section
    4) The columns would be the Rank field, I'm not sure about what you would like to show in the rows
    5) The summarized field would be the Value field ofcourse
    Let me know how this goes.

    Data should always be stored in the correct data type. For dates and times, that data type is either DATE or TIMESTAMP. Period.
