How do I get all the files from the hard drive in non-working Compaq Presario CQ62-411NR

Spilled iced tea into the keyboard of notebook and after drying out it will not power on. If I try a hard restart it is indicated that i would lose all the info in the memory and I can not afford to lose the photos of my mother that are on the hard drive. Is there a way of getting the hard drive to work in some other fashion so that I can get my photos and other files.

I develop applications in JavaScript and need to test them in the three major
browsers including FireFox. In the older version one would click on the FireFox logo and
go to New Page (New Tab?) and then File. Recently downloaded FireFox 30.0 and there
does not seem to be New Page option. I see New Window but it does not give me an option
for opening a file from the hard drive.

There are a few ways to open files in Firefox. The easiest is '''CTRL''' + '''O'''. Another easy option is to click Menu > Open File (if it's not there, you'll have to enter the Customize menu to drag it in).

If you mean iTunes libraries or computer user accounts, just create one. To make a new iTunes library on Windows, launch iTunes with the Shift key held down and choose Create Library.

How do you get an xml file from the PO Output for Communication report?

Can anyone tell me how you've created an xml output fil for this program? When I run it, the View XML button doesn't light up, and the output file is empty.
I can see the XML when I click the View Log button, but can't figure out how to save it so that the XMLP Desktop tool can load it properly.
If you can tell me how to create this file, I'd be very appreciative.

I can't see the xml in my log file. Maybe you have a different logging level. One issue I have had before is that the xml declaration had a strange character encoding. It should say something like: <?xml version="1.0" ?>. If it mentions anything about encoding you can remove it.
One of our developers wrote a custom process to write the xml to a table when the document was generated as we couldn't find any other way of doing it.
You can use the sample xml available from the data definition but this is missing fields.
Probably not much help...

I have an ipad and several apps, including free and purchased ones. How do I get all my apps from the ipad to the iphone5, this is what icloud is supposed to do. But only did for 5 apps

I have purchased quite a few apps, including pages, paper (plus accesories) and keynote, the most expensive ones. Also some games, books, photo editors and others. Icloud is activated in both devices but only very few apps were passes into my new iphone. I know that some apps are not compatible with all the devices but a lot of them are. What do I do? I dont have to buy pages and keynote again do I? That would be an absolute crime and would make icloud uselles! Also, isn´t it supposed to save all my recently taken pictures in icloud and then downoad them into my ipad or iphone, or viceversa? An automatically, daily. iTunes Match is not sharable across Apple IDs. The best way to get the music on her iPad is to leave hers signed into her Apple ID on the iTunes Store and sync via USB.

When you delete a Pop mail account, it disappears from the Account Settings and Folder Pane, but fortunately it still exists in the Profile folder unless you had removed it.
Ideally, you should have moved all the emails into 'Local Folders' before removing the account.
You could use this addon tool to import messages into 'Local Folders' account.

Transferring files from portable hard drives

I currently have an external hard drive formatted for a PC. I recently bought a Mac and an external hard drive that is formatted specifically for a Mac. I want to transfer the files from the PC external hard drive to the one formatted for Mac but when I hook the Mac hard drive to my PC it won't acknowledge it without me reformatting it for a PC. Is there a way for me to get the files from one hard drive to the next without reformatting the hard drives themselves?

I have a similar problem... my external hard drive, PC formated, is one that can be connected and media viewed through your TV. I want to keep all my "pc" files on the hard drive and add MAC (.avi, .mp3, .mp4, etc.) files to the hard drive to free up space on my laptop.

ok, what you're learning right now is 101 unix, which is good. Unix is a good thing
now: the way unix works, and macos (which uses unix underneath) the files and folders work like a hierarchy.
the start of that tree is /
so, if you were to do:
cd /
(cd means change directory)
it will bring you at the highest branch of the file system.
cd /Users
will bring you to where all the users are.
to see whats in /Users you can use your friend ls command
ls means list files/directories
so:
cd /Users
ls -la
(the -la here means show all (even hidden) and long format (very verbose)) this flag is very optional.
you will see
fred
user2
for example.
if you want to see the desktop of user2 you would change directory to it then list the files.
for example:
cd /Users/user2/Desktop
Note that the files and directory are case sensitive, so, desktop is NOT the same as Desktop, or DESKTOP
ls -la
you should then be able to see everything in users2 desktop
you could have done as well the same thing in smaller steps, for example:
cd /
cd Users
cd user2
cd Desktop
this is the equivalent of cd /Users/user2/Desktop
So, for your file, i don't know where it was, but know that if you log in as user2, it will directly put you in
/Users/user2
which most likely the file you had created from the other user was in /Users/user1
if you copied all the files from /Users/original_user to /Users/secondUser
most likely yes, all your mail, bookmarks etc would be copied over.
so in your case.
sudo chown -R seconduser:staff /Users/secondUser
should work
Remember that if you start a path with the character / it means start from the root of the file system, at the highest top you can ever get.
so
cd /Users/fred
is not the same as
cd Users/fred
unless you were in / already
i know it may be confusing at first but it's actually very logical if you play with it.
to simplify, think of it that / means C:\ on windows
you can't go any higher than C:\ (in a way)
if you're unsure which directory you're currently in, you can always type:
pwd
it will tell you where you are.
for example:
cd /
pwd
this shows /
cd Users
pwd
this now shows /Users
cd /System/Library
pwd will show /System/Library
cd /
cd /Users
cd fred
cd Library
pwd will show /Users/fred/Library
unix can look very scary but it's actually vital and very necessary to do tasks sometimes that would take for ever to do via the windows. This is good learning.
so for the myfile you had created, i can't tell you where it is, at the time you created, if you can do a pwd command you'll know the path,
ls -la (this shows all the files where you are)
if you see myfile in the list
do a pwd
whatever is return, the real location of the file would be:
whatever pwd returned / myfile

How did you import the photos to iPad and iPhone?
If the photos have been synced to the iPhone and iPad using iTunes, you cannot sync them back.
