How do I insert one new SSD disk?

I want to buy one additional SSD disk and insert to my MacBook Pro, how should I do?

If you are looking to add an additional ssd, you need to remove the optical drive, and in its place, put in a data doubler as seen here: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/drive_bracket/datadoubler/.  You can also, watch an instructional video on how to do this here by selecting the model mac you have and clicking on the hyperlink that is below your model: http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/.

  • How do I configure my new SSD to work with my iMac?

I just installed a new 4TB Seagate SSD in my 24" iMac (early 2009).  When I turn on my computer, it starts up with an image of a folder and a question mark in the middle of the folder.  How do I configure my new SSD without my original utility disks (they're currently in another state . . . in the middle of moving)?  I have a drive adapter and have connected my old hard drive which allows me to run the computer, but I was unable to transfer everything from old to new using Disk Utility.  Thank you so much for any help you can offer.

OK, it's not an SSD, it's an SSHD (love a set of initials) specifically it is a standard 4TB rotating drive with 8GB of SSD memory attached. Treat it just like any other drive because that is how it appears.
"After doing some reading on the internet last night, it seemed like most people said what you're saying that the disks was the preferred method.  My concern is that I won't have my disks for another few weeks.  Do most people prefer not to clone in order to shed some of the unwanted programs and "stuff"?"
If you want an entirely fresh installation then cloning is not the way to go, otherwise it's the best choice. If you don't have the disks it is the only way to go (with Snow Leopard anyway)
You could boot from the old drive and use it to install Mavericks on the new one if you wish.

  • All device mappings lost, including DVD, trying to install Windows 8.1 on a new SSD disk containing no OS

I have a catch-22 situation. When I installed a new SSD disk on my desktop (does not contain an OS), Windows 8.1 would not install. The error stated that there was no partition to install on. I saw a Forum describing initializing the drive with DISKPART
using the advanced tools and a command prompt I got through the windows 8.1 installation disk, which I did successfully.
I did what it described, created an active partition, an all my drive mappings were lost. Now I can't access the Windows installation disk because the mapping was lost on my DVD reader. The error says to press any key to boot from DVD, when I do this the
message just comes up again. It is clear my DVD is not spinning or being accessed.  So, every solution I have read on these forums seems to depend on being able to read the DVD, which I cannot do. I have unplugged all hard drives but the new SSD and DVD
    reader.
When I try to get a listing from the shell, my only option, it says nothing is mapped. My BIOS settings boot first from DVD, then from disk. It doesn't matter, the DVD cannot be accessed.
How do I map my DVD with no OS so the Windows installation disk can be accessed?

    Hello LBLivnat,
With no operating system, the DVD recognization is not from Windows.
Please go to bios and check if the DVD rom is recognized in the BIOS.
Please contact the manufacturer and check if the issue is from the BIOS.

  • On Firefox 4, how can I put one "new tab" on the "tab bar" (The + sign) and one next to the "back/forward" buttons (as in FF 3.6)?

On Firefox 4, how can I put one "new tab" on the "tab bar" (The + sign) and one next to the "back/forward" buttons (as in FF 3.6)?
In my current Firefox, the "new tab" icon/item from the "customize" pop-up window menu of items is placed next to my home, back, forward buttons near the top-left of my header (Button 1 for "new tab"). Then, the tab bar automatically come with a small tab (with a + sign) to the right of your last tab opened (so you click on + and a new tab opens. Button 2 for "new tab"). I like to have this "new tab" button twice (as a + mini tab, and next to my "home icon".
When I upgraded to Firefox 4, I seemed to be only able to "customize" or use the "new tab" in one place. Either as an icon next to home button, or as a "+ minitab", but NOT both.
What can I do to put this button in Firefox 4 on BOTH places???
Your help is really appreciated. I want to upgrade, but I want my buttons on both places...
I upgraded to FF 4, but downgraded again just because this feature... that's just me of coarse :-)

  • How do I create a new boot disk from an existing one?

I have a G4 Quicksilver with internal PATA disk, running 10.4. I want to upgrade the internal disk from 40 GB to 160 GB. I have installed a second disk and can see it fine, but what I really want is to put the system on the new disk and have it be the one and only boot disk in the system. Is there a straightforward way to do this? Is a carbon copy cloner the way to go? Will that have problems with the different disk sizes? Will it handle bad blocks properly? Isn't there a way to just use drag-and-drop?
Once I have made a copy, how do I make it the boot disk? Do I have to swap it into the PATA "master" position to do this?

    Cloning And Backup Tools
A bootable clone is an exact copy of your drive which is capable of booting your computer. Making a copy of your computer which is capable of actually starting the computer requires special copying procedures. Some people just back up data files but if you have problems you have to reinstall all your operating system and all your applications. With a bootable clone you just start up from the backup drive and clone back everything.
To copy files from one hard drive to another hard drive you can use:

  • Macbook Pro, How to transfer files to new SSD

    Hi
Ordered 16GB of Ram and a 480GB SSD for my MacBook Pro 13 2.5GHz last night.
I know how to install the ram and SSD but I am kind of stumped as to how to move my files from my HDD currently in my Mac to my new ssd, I know that its possible to do it by removing the optical drive and use a hard drive caddy and move the files with an app called super duper but i could do with keeping my optical drive for the time being.
I have a Mac Pro late 2012, i was wondering is there any way i can put both drives into two different slots and transfer the files any way?
Or does anybody else know how i can do it, maybe if i take my Mac to the apple store they have a cable they would let me use whilst im there?
    Hope somebody can help
    Tom

Buy an external hard drive enclosure. They are inexpensive. Put the new drive in it temporarily, connect it and run Disk Utility to format the new drive.
Then transfer files between the two drives with Super Duper or Carbon Copy Cloner.
    Next physically switch the drives.
Your old drive can now serve as your Time Machine back up.

  • How I can insert one row on table,  with columns settings: readonly = true

    I have a problem. (jdeveloper 11.1.1.2.0)
How I can insert row on table (EditingMode= clickToEdit), with columns settings: ReadOnly = true.
When I make click on button create insert, ADF create one row on the table with output text invisible ( ReadOnly = true.)
I make double click, then output text is visible (ReadOnly = false)
I dont want make double click. I want output text is visible (ReadOnly = false), when I make click on button create insert
    Thanks

    Hi,
try changing the edit mode of the table when pressing the button and refresh the button. This of course turns the whole table into editable mode, but this is how it needs to work. Alternatively, you create an input form for the user to edit the new record and show the form in a popup or beneath the table. Then when the user submits the created row data, you refresh the table to shwo the new row

  • How can I insert a new table whose cells are linked to Cell Styles?

How can I define a Table Style so that cells in new tables are automatically linked to my Cell Styles? (Not sure if "linked" is exactly the appropriate word....I'm going for "connected in such a way that when the Style is changed, the character/paragraph/cell/table/object updates to reflect the change.")
I thought the whole point of using Cell Styles in Table Styles would be so the cells can be automatically linked to the desired Cell Styles when the table is created -- but that isn't happening for me. I don't know if I'm just confused or if this is a bug:
When I insert a new table of a Table Style I have defined, it seems all cells in the new table are simply linked to Cell Style [None], with overrides for each cell that are consistent with the applicable Cell Style as it was defined when the table was inserted. So although the appearance of each cell is consistent with the Cell Style I defined for for that region of the table, the cells don't update if I later make changes to the Cell Styles I defined.
(If, after inserting a new table, I manually select each cell and apply the desired Cell Style, then the cells do (of course) update when I change the Cell Styles.)
Is it possible to have cells be actually linked to Cell Styles when a new table is inserted, instead of cells being simply linked to style [None] with overrides?
(I'm using the up-do-date 2014 release of InDesign CC, in case that's relevant.)

  • How do I insert a new track/region into a medley of songs without impacting the timing in all subsequent tracks/regions?

I have edited the regions in each track so they are synced nicely from one to the next in order to create a medley that I will export for an iMovie slide show project. But I I have now thought of some new song segments I want to add to the medley at different points in the medley. The problem is that if I insert a new song segment as a new track at any point before the end, the syncing is lost in all subsequent tracks. Help please! Thank you.

    Hello Julian,
if you frequently have to rearrange parts of your project, I would suggest to have a look at the arrangement track.(see also the GB help section on Arrangement Track). In the arrangement track you can label parts of your song with names like "chorus", "intro", and then drag these parts around and arrange them freely, with all the timing and automation you added. And yes, you should lock the automation to the regions.

I need to insert a new menu in between two existing ones in the "tree" view of all the slides. Can anyone help me?
Also: The submenu buttons that I want to use are too big for the screen with all of the dropzones flying around. Is there any way to delete a drop zone area entirley so that I'll have more room for buttons? Can I make iDVD stop shifting my buttons around automatically and making them overlap and look ugly?

yup, that's exactly what is already stated in the above link I provided earlier.

Since it is showing up in Disk Utility, try selecting it, then clicking the Partition button, choosing GUID partition table as an Option and Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the format.

  • How to migrate to a new 4TB disk (switching from MBR to UEFI)

I have an HP Pavilion p7-1167c running Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1.
My 1TB drive ran out of space, so I want to migrate to a new 4TB drive.  However, the current drive is a MBR drive and I understand that I need to use UEFI to be able to utilize the full 4TB (ie I am limited to using 2TB of the 4TB if the 4TB drive is formatted as an MBR drive).
In the past when migrating to a new drive, I just cloned the drive.  Can I still do this, even though they are formatted differently?  I'm not sure if a cloning process would clone data from a MBR disk to a UEFI disk while keeping the disk formatting, or if a clone requires that the source and target disks be the same formatting.
If I can clone a drive from a MBR disk to a UEFI disk, how would I get my PC to boot using the new disk?  Do I maybe need to change something in the BIOS to cause the PC to support UEFI?
If I can't clone the drive due to needing to go from MBR to UEFI, what should I do?  Is the only option to do a build from scratch (ie reinstall the OS from scratch with the UEFI disk installed, then re-install all the apps, and then re-load my data from a backup)?  I'm hoping to avoid this, due to the obvious large amount of effort that would take.
Thanks in advance for any guidance as to how how I might migrate my system to this new drive, while being able to utilize the full 4TB of space.
    Thanks!

    Hi Steve,
Another point of clarification.  You should be able to use a 4 TB hard drive for data.  To use it as a replacement boot drive would required some special efforts using retail media and provided that the boot sources will support UEFI boot devices.  If you boot up W8 installation media in UEFI mode then you could try installing W8 to the GPT formatted hard drive.  I haven't tried this on your particular model so I can't say for sure that it will work.

  • How do I get A new installation disk???

    Hello,
I reacently was given a linksys wireless b broadband router
#befw11s4 ver.4, however it did not have the installation disk with it. When I hooked it up(and yes I hooked it up correctly) it worked just fine, well just fine if you just want to use the desktop that origanally had dsl,
But the router(which by now I have a couple of new words for) simply refuses to have anything to do with my laptop or my linksys wireless b notebook adapter. So the only thing that I know is I need the installation cd, but seeing as I don't have one the only logical solution would be to get one, and that is the problem, so my question is where do you get the cd's or just downloading the contents would be fine, I don't need a cd just whats on it. Oh and if possible could someone point me to a free one? Because if I had any money I would have already put mine through the wall and bought a new one with better standards and a cd.
Thank you for you're time and help,

  • How to stop insert of new row in tabular form if it's also being deleted

Suppose you have a tabular form, and one of the fields is a not-null column. A user checks a button to "add additional row", which adds a new row to the form, defaulting that not-null column to null. Assume it's a name or something, so there is no reasonable non-null default value that can be entered here to keep it from being null.
Now suppose the user makes a series of changes on the page, but then decides they don't want that row they just added, so they mark it for deletion, then click on "Delete Checked Rows". The not-null column was left blank.
The page is constructed in such a way that the ApplyMRD process runs first, then the ApplyMRU process. (I do this so that the user doesn't lose all their updates if they want to delete a row. I've had a few people complain when they tried to combine both operations, and unexpectedly lost their updates when they hit delete instead of submit.)
What happens? The page errors out because the ApplyMRU process is trying to insert a row with a null value in a not-null column. The ApplyMRD process ran fine, but because the row marked for deletion didn't exist in the database to begin with, it effectively did nothing. But ApplyMRU still tries to add the row, even though it was marked for deletion.
Is there any way to prevent this scenario from happening, without requiring the user to Cancel instead of deleting the blank row, which would cause all other changes on the page to be lost? I'd also like to avoid losing the ApplyMRU process when the user clicks "Delete", since it's more effective to combine operations and this will address the UI complaints I'd received otherwise.
(This is on ApEx 4.0, if it matters.)
    Thanks,
    Keith

Thinking about this some more, doing the delete and update together may not be an easy thing to accomplish after all.
Consider the above scenario, but the user puts a dummy value like "ignore-me" into the not-null text field, so the error doesn't come up with ApplyMRU is fired. But if ApplyMRD runs before ApplyMRU, it still doesn't do anything because there is no row in the database with the value "ignore-me". Then ApplyMRU runs and it adds that row, even though it was marked for deletion.
So you probably need to always run ApplyMRU before ApplyMRD. But then you wind up inserting a row before you delete it, and that may have unintended side effects, if the user really never wanted to add it in the first place.
Right now, the only workaround I can think of is to:
    1) put ApplyMRU before ApplyMRD
    2) add a pre-commit validation that checks to see if a row is blank AND checked, and if so, put a dummy value into the not-null field
    3) let that row get added and then deleted, and make sure there are no side effects from this (for example, there is an audit table that tracks updates to the base table -- I can add a trigger that does nothing if presented with this dummy value)
Hopefully, though, there is an easier and more "built-in" way to achieve what I'm aiming for.
