How do I move my iTunes library from my iPod Classic to my new laptop without ;osong a;; my music in the synch process?

Hi FWFFP,
Welcome to the Support Communities!
The article below will explain how to get music onto your new computer.  I'd personally recommend the option of copying the iTunes library from your current computer to an external drive, because it creates a backup for you as well:

  • How can I import my iTunes library from my iPod classic to my new computer?

I have just purchased a Macbook Air and would like  to transfer the iTunes music files from my iPod classic into iTunes on the new computer. I can't access my old windows computer.

You will need a third-party utility such as Phone to Mac

  • How do I move my Itunes library from my old pc to my new laptop?

    Hi,
I have most of my music on my cronky old PC which is about to die! How do I transfer the music on my itunes onto my shiny new laptop? Please can you make it really easy???
    Thanks
    Helen

Easy way, if you don't have a time-capsule machine or something is to connect an SD card to the PC, move all songs onto it, then connect the SD card to the other computer and move the songs off of it onto the computer.

  • After getting a new dell laptop, I was able to easily move my itunes library from my old mac to my new laptop, however now when I try to sync my music to my iphone,my songs have an exclimation point next to it and cant sync most of my music. HELP!

I recently was given a new dells windows 7 laptop. I then was able to successfully move my itunes library from my old mac to my new dell. Now I am trying to sync my whole library of music back onto my iphone 4, but when I try it says most of my music can not be located. I have exclimation points next to the majority of my music (I have 368 songs in my itunes acount). Please help me be able to sync my songs to my iphone. I am only able to sync about 31 of my songs.

Copy them from your old computer, or your backuo copy of your old computer. to your new one.
The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  the exception is itunes purchases.

  • How do i move my itunes library from my old computer to my new computer with out losing my musis

hi, how do i move my itunes music librart from my old computer to my new computer with out losing my music

There are various methods described on this page for copying your content between computers : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527

  • How do I move my iTunes library from an older Mac to a newer one, and have it show up on my iPad and iPhone?

I have an iTunes library on an old G4 QuickSilver that I want to move to my MacBook Pro, and have some of the albums and songs sync-up with iCloud so I can access them on my iPhone and iPad.  A lot of the albums and songs on the G4 machine were uploaded via CD, not purchased from iTunes.

You can move iTunes music files in the same way you would transfer any other file (thumb drive, external hard drive, etc.).  Simply move them to your new computer and add them to your iTunes library (File --> "Add To Library").

  • How do I move my iTunes library from my old MBP to my new one??

I followed this procedure to the letter and got nothing:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
I really don't want to trash all of my playlists and things and then have to start over from scratch. This was supposed to work.
Getting pretty sick of Apple products.

That was exactly what I did, Chris CA, and I got nothing.
I found a tip somewhere online that suggested editing the iTunes Music Library file, changing the path (my new MB Pro had a slightly different user name) for all the entries that referenced the path. I also noticed that the version of iTunes, noted in the xml file, was 10.1 and I have 10.4 on this new machine.  Once I did that, my old iTunes library, with all the playlists and everything, showed up just fine. I wish that KB article had mentioned this.
Do you know why this would be necessary? I mean, why should I have to touch the xml file for iTunes to recognize the contents of the iTunes Music folder?
Thanks for your reply. I do dislike of some of the changes to the Apple line that have occurred over the years, but the alternatives aren't pretty.

  • How do i get my itunes library from my old pc to my new laptop?

I downloaded itunes to my new laptop and then plugged in my iphone, but it didnt bring up my library.  Help!

Your music will not magically appear anywhere.  It will only be where you put it.
You need to copy your music from the old computer to the new one.
Use your backup copy of your computer.
Type "move itunes library" into the Google search bar.  You will find instructions there.

Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

You need to transfer the iTunes Library from the most recent backup you made before the hard drive was replaced.
You can't transfer the full iTunes Library from the iPad back to iTunes.
There are third-party Windows applications that will transfer data from an iOS device, but they don't re-create the iTunes Library exactly as it was before.
