How do I retrieve multiple files from my trashcan?

I removed everything from my "finder" to my trashcan; I found that I had multiple duplicates in images, and I thought that was an easy way to get rid of them. But then my iPhoto started acting weird and when I contacted support, was told that I had to "put back" each file. There are roughly 17,000 images. I am overwhelmed to say the least. Suggestions? I tried highlighting several at a time, but that doesn't work.

Yes, but it puts the files into a .zip file that is "corrupted, encrypted, empty or in an incompatible format".

    Is it even possible to retrieve a file from Trash from a Time Machine backup? Does Time Machine even back up the Trash? I've been told a total restore from a Time Machine backup will put the past Trash back on the Mac, but what if I just want to restore an individual file?
    Shortly after emptying my Trash on my Mac (10.9.4) for the first time in weeks, I realized I needed one of the files I'd just erased. Trying to retrieve with Time Machine was not fruitful, however, because I couldn't find the file on any of the past backups using the normal Enter Time Machine interface. However, I know it would have been in the Trash during all of the most recent backups.
    So I researched how to find the backups of Trash with Time Machine, but I think all of the solutions I found on various online forums were pre-Mavericks and do not seem to work now. I've basically tried 2 things:
    Show Trash in Finder using the Terminal command: open ~/.Trash
    It shows the hidden Trash folder in Finder, located in Macintosh HD/Users/User. For easy access, I added the .Trash folder to the Finder Sidebar. But I can't get to it in the backups. The Trash shortcut in the Finder Sidebar is always grayed out in the old backups using the Time Machine app. And it does not show up in ~ when looking through the backups.backupdb folder on my external HD.
    I also tried the Terminal command to show all hidden files in Finder: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES
    But while many hidden files do suddenly appear in Finder, curiously, the User's .Trash folder is not one. This is true for the Finder of the Mac, the backups.backupdb folder on the External HD, and Time Machine app.

    It depends on the type of file that you are trying to retreive.
    In general.....
    Open Time Machine by clicking on the clock icon on the dock
    Wait a few minutes for Time Machine to fully load
    Use the timeline at the far right of the window to go back in time to a date when the file was still on your Mac
    Click that date
    Navigate using the Finder interface to locate the file that you want
    Click on the file to highlight it
    Click Restore at the lower right of the window to be brought back to the present

    I am trying to retrieve multiple fields from a SQL table such as customer name, address and phone number by entering the customer # in my form either in a text field or a data drop down list.  I can get the drop downlist to populate from the table, however the other fields do not coorespond to my selection.  It appears that they are from the first record in the table regardless of which customer # I select from the drop down list.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Yeah, it's hard to find stuff when you don't know where it is <g>. In general, though, for these kinds of things, always think: "Library" which is where SO many pieces of programs are stored. Of course, there's lots of Library folders, so your first job is to decide: system or user level? Realizing more than one user account could have email setups, you can assume the path you need starts at the User level. So, you start at Home[UserName]/Library. Scanning that Library folder, you see a Mail folder (aha!). Checking out that folder, you might first suspect the Mailboxes subfolder, but you'll soon see that it has the mailboxes you've defined for sorting your mail; so, you continue to scan the Mail folder and you see a folder with your email address on it (or multiple folders, one for each of your emails). Open one of those and, ta da! You see something labeled junk.mbox.
    You've already found your Junk mail, of course, but I'm suggesting this as a general approach, especially for other readers of this thread, who might not want to touch Terminal.
    But, back to one of your initial problems: TM seemed to lose your search criteria. Do you think it was related to the high number of " hits"? Does it work for you otherwise, when you search for something less general?

    I'm recently a victim of car theft and my MacBook Pro, iPad 2 and external hard drive was stolen from the car. A friend of mine is lending me his MacBook Air to temporary use until I get a new MBP. I use Time Machine and Time Capsule to do frequent back up of all my files. I am attempting to restore my files on this MacBook Air, but I need assistance in trying to retrieve files/information from the external hard drive that I have attached to my MacBook Pro. My previous research on Time Machine/Time Capsule is that it will also back up external hard drive as long as they are attached/mounted to my MacBook Pro during back-ups.
    How do I restore/retrieve the files or folders from my external hard drive using Migration Assistant. Do I need to get another external hard drive? Should I get the same exact brand and type of external hard drive?
    I hope that someone can help me with this? Like most of us, my entire life's work in on my computer and hard drive. I need to be able to retrieve this valuable information.

    Having your entire life on the laptop is a concern!!
    The pondini knowledgebase will give you an excellent starting point. as recovery is not necessarily simple in this scenario.. as the external drive might or might not have been backed up depending on the settings..

    You will probably need another disk, just because the disk in the air is small. It does not have to be the same size or model.. just get one big enough to restore everything.

    I'm trying to attach multiple documents from the "Pages" app to my email.  I'm using an ipad.  It is only letting me attach one at a time and send each document as individual emails.  I would like to be able to send one email with all 4 documents at the same time.  Any suggestions?

    You can only attach one file at a time to email in the Pages app
    You cannot attach files in the mail app. If you want to email a file, you do it from within the app where the file is saved such as what you did with Pages.

    I have a form containing a block of records with files set up in a tabular layout. Each row has a checkbox to indicate if that row is selected. What I want to do is allow the user to save each file from checked rows to a directory of their choice on their machine when a button is pressed. Is it possible to do this in one command at the same time using WEBUTIL_FILE to save all the selected files to the same directory, or would I need to loop through each row and call the save dialog each time?

    I'm not sure I follow. The SAVE_DIALOG is building the path including the filename where the files will be saved. If I have 5 different files I want to save at the same time and only show the dialog once, I will only have a path for one of the files. How could I loop through the rest afterwards?

  • How can I email multiple files from Pages?

    I want to semd out a cover letter and resume, yet when I select more than one file the share icon dulles out and can't be selected. Is there a work around for this?

    Until Apple releases a version of Pages that allows multiple attachements you could use GoodReader application to get two documents onto one Mail document.
    It is convoluted, but does work.
    First, in Pages,  SHARE>EMAIL each document to yourself  (it will take two or more Mails) then (assuming you have GoodReader installed) open each email and press-and-hold on the attachement until you see the dialogue "Open In..." and then select "Open In... GoodReader"; do this for each attachment. Then in GoodReader, open MANAGE FILES and select all the attachments and hit E-Mail from GoodReader, it can send multiple attachments in MAIL.
    Since you are sending a resume, I strongly recommend sending your self a trial run to ensure all the attached documents appear correctly before sending them to a prospective new employer. Sometimes things don't work as planned; better to catch them first.

    After I download a group of files, I should like to move them all en masse to one folder on my MacBook.  However, it I select all the files (via shift-click) and try to drag them to their new home, the files instead all open up inside their native applications.   Absent any other solution, I have been forced to move each file one at a time from the download folder to their new location, which can get dreadfully tedious.  Is there some way I can move them all in one fell swoop and be done with it?  Thanks for any help you might provide.

    I also subseqeuntly discovered that if I clicked on the tiny magnifying glass in the Download window, the files opened up in another Finder Window, from which I was able to do the combination command-click or shift-click to do the bulk move of the files.
    I will try your suggestion of changing the Download destination in preferences the next time I am faced with this; that sounds like that would be even easier!

    When I click the icon to open word, powerpoint, or excel all of the word files open at the same time. The same goes for the others, if I click on powerpoint-all of my powerpoint files open at once.     When you restart or shut down you have the option to "Reopen Windows when Logging Back In". Untick this option and neither the applications nor the documents you have open un shutdown will reopen when you log back in.     I am on Mountain Lion because my mid-2007 can't upgrade to Mavericks. Apple upgraded the iWork Apps so that they only work in the new iCloud Drive, but the new iCloud drive is only available if you are in Mavericks or later - an older version for Mavericks and a newer version for Yosemite. It seems that I have lost access to all my files overnight.

    Why can't you upgrade? All Mountain lion Macs are compatible for upgrade to Mavericks or Yosemite (By the way, iCloud Drive is a Yosemite only feature).

    Hi,
      directories creates basis. If you have task to store data in application server you already should have information into which folder you have to do it. If you don't have this information because it is just for example training for next task then you can use your personal folder into which you have access. To get list of all available folders please look at attached code and form get_directories (you get the list of folders you see in transaction AL11). But don't forget: If you are using open dataset you have to have rights to access application folder!

    I am finding difficulties in how to show this multiple row data for dynamic no of rows .i.e. variable no. of rows.
    I have able to show the data in Header portions of page in this ways

    To display, make use of JSTL's c:forEach.

    How do I process multiple files and turn them from raw to jpeg. Ive tried and it seems to go through the files but doesnt seem to process them or store them in the selected folder

    Yes that was the first thing I did. Then I used the process multiple files and selected a new folder to put them in and selected use open files and selected to turn them into jpeg. The images flash on the screen like they are being processed, but the folder never appears in library. Is it possible because there are a couple 16 bit files open that this corrupts the task. Do I need to create the folder first. Will elements not create the folder on its own.
