You can assume that your device is secure, but if you supplied any personal information in response to that email, consider it to be compromised. Phishing emails generally don't contain malware, and if one does, it's probably designed for Windows and won't affect an iOS device.

Hello Kappy, Thank you for your response. I reviewed a portion of the "Missing Manual" by David Pogue and figured out how to go into utilities and repair permissions. The following are the responses I got when I ran "repair permissions":

So what do I do with this information? I'm not sure what it means and how it impacts the computer. However, after I ran this, I was able to complete the goggle form for a new password (my computer no longer recognized my years-old password) and obtain a new one and then access my email account again. (I opened a bogus email yesterday that I have since learned contained a virus so I am assuming this may have caused my angst.) So I'm now back to my gmail account but not sure how the above information related to the "repairs permission" should be addressed if at all.

There is no known malware capable of infecting an iOS device, unless it has been jailbroken. Due to the security that prevents malware, real anti-virus software on iOS is not possible, so none exists.
As to the problem, I'm unclear on exactly what you're seeing. What exactly does it mean to get "kicked off your sites?"

Since updating I can't click on horizontally placed links, buttons etc have uninstalled and reinstalled still doing it. Cant even see how to get an older version that did work and have run a virus check. explorer works

Firefox was automatically updated to 7 and now all the websites I go on the horizontal active things you would click on will not do anything. eg in ebay I can't access "My ebay" and in facebook can't click on my profile or messages, in Flickr I can't click on "Your Photostream" which means I can't use it. I tried explorer and all these work so it has to be firefox. I uninstalled and reinstalled and ran a complete system virus check on top of the active ongoing one and nothing no change. I am at a loss what to do now. A relative suggested downloading an older version that worked but I can't even see how to do that. I would appreciate help so I could use firefox as in the meantime I am stuck with exporer which I hate. Thanks

Hacking of financial accounts happens, and it does not require access to your computer, either physically or via malware. Although there is Mac malware, there's none that you are likely to be infected with at the moment. See my Mac Malware Guide. Most likely that answer was simply a catch-all answer from someone used to dealing with Windows machines.
However, if you really want to run a scan, use ClamXav. If it finds any malware, post the details here before panicking... most likely, it's just Windows malware attached to an e-mail message or something. (If it's actually Mac malware, the name of the malware will include the text "OSX".) Also, note that you should not let any anti-virus software delete e-mail messages, if they are infected, as that will corrupt the mailbox containing the message.

If you're talking about the Apple Hardware Test, then insert your OS X Installer Disc One that came with your computer into the optical drive. Restart the computer. After the chime press and hold down the "D" key until the diagnostic screen appears. Run extended diagnostics. You should run them several times because sometimes problems occur intermittently and may not show up on a single run.

iPads and Macs are very different.
For Macs there are many security suites and virus scanners out there you can use. A Google search should point some out.
iPads at this time cannot get infected by malware or viruses. There is just nothing out there currently that can infect them. As such there is no way to scan them for anything and its not really necessary.

You could split them in half and re-enable 50% of them. If it doesn't crash, then you know the culprit resides somewhere in the remaining half.

My late 2010 MacBook Pro was completely wiped out the other day, and a friend of mine who is a techie determined that something completely everything. I mean everything! No boot function...nothing!

I called Apple Care, and he made me an Apple Genius appointment that day at my nearest store. Long story short, he could not do anything more, since once he removed the casing, he noticed what could have been a liquid spill, which of course, voids Apple Care. Thank God my friend is a tech wizard.
He took it home with him, completely took it apart, rane various hardware diagnostics on it, there was no liquid spill, the HDD does work, the logice board isn't damamged, it was just wiped out.
My Mac was acting funny the last few days, and the fan kept running constantly, so as a precaution I backed everything up to the Time Capsule and another portable hard drive. So the problem is, if I downloaded something and it's now just waiting in one, if not both, of those backups, how can I make sure it doesn't get transfered over once I restore all my files?

You can't use either iDVD or movie projects with the tv, they are just what they say n the tin - Projects. All projects need finalising before they can be used elsewhere. iDVD projects will be finalised as DVD's and of course the tv doesn't play DVD's.
imovie projects need to be finalised as h264 video files so as to be used with the tv. Quite simple really, just share as a movie, choosing the size of movie that suits the source video you have used in the project.

If you didn't purchase it when you bought the iPad, you have to make an appointment to have it inspected at a store. Then you can buy it. I don't think it's ness because if a problem is going to happen with the hardware, it will happen in the first year or few months. What is nice about the plus care, it protects against accidental damage 2 times. I figured, if something happens after the year, most likely I am going to want the newest iPad version. I'll sell my old one, even if it's cracked, people are buying them. Then put that money towards the newest model. I have dropped a phone, but not my ipad( knock on wood). It's to big I think. Accidents do happen, do you feel the accident coverage is nessecary? That's the question you need to answer. It covers twice, plus 50$ US every time it happens, to get a new one. I don't know what that translates to rupees.
