How do I talk to 1-Wire devices with LabVIEW Real-Time?

Hello, I'm trying to use LabVIEW Real-Time to talk to some older 1-Wire devices that my company has previously communicated with using C code.  We are currently developing on a cRIO and are trying to use a Dallas Semiconductor 2480 serial port device to talk to some iButtons and a secure SHA 1-Wire device.  I have run into a few problems where the 1-Wire device stops communicating and just repeats the data sent to it.  I was wondering if anyone has successfully created any VI's to talk with 1-Wire devices via the serial port that do NOT use any kind of Java or .NET or Windows based device drivers supplied by Dallas Semi.  A last resort would be that we keep the C code and place it in a block in LabVIEW and run it as is but I would prefer to have some LabVIEW-native code.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Brian_T,
Thanks for that link about compiling a shared library for use on a VxWorks cRIO.  The only thing they mention that I don't understand is this bit:
"GNU toolchain distributed with Wind River VxWorks"
I have been unable to locate a compiler for VxWorks so I am assuming that is located in this GNU toolchain thing?  Does that come with the cRIO?  I think I noticed a VxWorks C compiler somewhere else online but we're talking a totally different product I would have to purchase, assuming it would even work.  I guess once the stub and the shared library are all good to go, I just call the C functions in the shared library and when it comes time to talk to the serial port, just slap a VISA Read/Write VI on the block diagram.  I've been using a cRIO and COM1 access for some time now so I do understand at least that much.  Let me know how to get ahold of this "toolchain" thing.  Thanks.

How come you can not use more than 126GB of a 1.5TB diskdrive with LabVIEW Real Time?
This is only 8.3% of the available disk drive space!

National Instrument's solution is either reformat you drive to less than 126GB or replace the drive with one less than that size.
Please NI, tell me you are going to fix your LabVIEW Real Time soon, and that we won't have to wait for LabVIEW RT 9.2.1 in 2011 for this one to be fixed.
    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/90/Hard_drive_capacity_over_time.svg
Drives as large as 126GB or more have been around since about mid 2002.  That's about 7 Years now and LabVIEW Real Time STILL can't use drives larger that 126GB!  Please NI.  Do something.
We deserve fixes to the old versions of LabVIEW RT.  How about updates to LabVIEW RT.  Such as 7.0.2, 7.1.2, 7.6.2, 8.0.2, 8.2.2, 8.6.2.
We don't need new features or versions of LabVIEW RT such as 9.0 until we have some of bugs fixed in the existing versions.

The RealTime OS is an NI Product that is purchased from NI.
NI may or may not outsource design, developement, or manufacturing of the products that it sells under its own Company name.
For this reason I would be concerned if I were a PXI Embedded Controller designer/developer in the United States.
Yes, 126GB is some space.  I see that there are now 2TB drives available.  126GB would be 6.3% of a new 2TB drive.  Should we all be happy with being able to use 6.3% of the available drive space.  Moore's Law seams to be alive and well.  Drives larger than 126GB have been readily available for 5 or 6 Years.  This should not be a surprise to NI.  Why don't they do something about it.
Thanks for the trivia on Bill Gates.  I must have missed that one since I don't try to keep up with Microsoft.  I believe that he is a wonderful person and he and his family are doing wonders for the world in their "retirement".   The world needs more like him.
What I do remember is Steve Jobs telling us that we would never need more that 128MB and that we would never to need to do anymore software development because everything was already in the "ToolBox".

  • How can I create a Report with LabView Real-Time?

With conventional LabView, I can create Reports in HTML, for example to document Errors.
I need this feature in LabView Realtime. Is it possible?

It is possible, but you got to put a name to the file with an extension of three letters. i.e. errors.htm
Three letters on the extension is what the RT Operating system allows to use.
Then you will need to do an ftp to your RT machine and get the file and maybe change the extensions.
Not all the vis for Report generation can be used in the RT engine. The ones that use ACTIVE X will not work. i.e printting
Another way to generate reports and the most recommended is to use the host machine to generate the reports.

  • How can I use the ni-6024-e with the real time of matlab/simulink. Where can I find any example?

I am doing the final project and I need to control the ni-6024-e with the RTW (real time) of matlab/simulink.
Does anyone know or have any example?.

    Rafelmor,
Have you contacted The MathWorks yet? They probably have the best information.
However, I did a quick search and found some information on The MathWorks' site. For Data Acquisition Toolbox examples: http://www.mathworks.com/access/helpdesk/help/toolbox/daq/daq_example_index.shtml.
    For RTW information: http://www.mathworks.com/support/product/RT/.
    Good luck with your application.

  • Req any examples of how to use a USB midi controller/keyboards with Labview TIA

Req any examples of how to use a USB midi controller/keyboards with Labview TIA

    Hi,
To access the MIDI ports you will need to call the Windows SDK. To send MIDI commands is relatively easy, here is an example that shows you how to send data to a MIDI controller or keyboard.
As far as input goes, this is the hard part. There are a series of functions that you need to call to open up the device, set some buffers and and possibly a callback to get notifications on the incoming data.
Reading MIDI data will not be an easy task, your best bet will be to implement this in a DLL and call that DLL in LabVIEW, there should be some code available o the web.
= "http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/multimed/htm/_win32_multimedia_... is a link to the Windows multimedia functions that you could use for MIDI input.
Let me know if you have any further questions.

I have iphone5 and now been given Nokia lumia 520 for work. How can I ensure that my calendars all sync in real time between each phone? Many thanks for any advice

Well if you got the Phone Pggray43 at a Local Corporate store in your Area)  you should be able to return it as long as you have all the contents.!  Phone, Charger and any other accessories that came with it the Box of Course.. As long as you have not went past the 14 Day return.. the store can go over what you used as in Air Time and Data..
Now if you've went past the 14 Day return you be Liable to pay a E.T.F =  Early Termination Fee the fee for this is around $300 so hopefully you have not went past the 14 Day return window the Manager if Available is the one I would talk to tell them your on Social Security and you just can't afford a phone as this I'm sure they'll work with you to get something solved..
Hope ya have Good Luck.! b33

  • A Verizon cellphone tower in my area is feeding multiple Verizon Customers / Devices with the incorrect time (one hour behind) when we are in range of this tower

A Verizon cellphone tower in my area is feeding multiple Verizon Customers / Devices with the incorrect time (one hour behind) when we are in range of this tower (in this specific area).   Our phones show the correct time in other areas.   Is there a way to fix or report this?

The zip code that this is occurring in is: 87102
    Specifically when I am at
    1001 Woodward Pl NE
    Albuquerque, NM 87102
Upon further investigation, it is happening to anyone with a Verizon handset, regardless of specific device.  I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3, and my co-worker has a Motorola Droid Turbo and we are both having the issue.  Anyone on a different carrier (T-Mobile, AT&T) is fine, and is not experiencing this issue.
It actually looks like the cell tower is feeding us the correct time, but its like it forgot daylight savings happened.  So it is feeding us the incorrect time zone/day light savings information.
When I goto Settings -> Date and Time on my Android device,  I have both "Automatic date and time" and "Automatic time zone" checked.
the "Automatic timezone" it is pulling from the Verizon cell tower is "Mountain -7".   It is correct that we are in the "Mountain" timezone, but we are currently "Mountain -6" (also known as day light savings).   So the Cell Tower things it MST when it should be MST DST
When I uncheck "Automatic time zone" and select my own, suddenly it lets me select "Mountain -6" and doesn't even give me the option of "Mountain -7".
So in conclusion, some cell tower in the area of zip code 87102 forgot that daylight savings ever happened, and is telling cellphones they are in the "Mountain -7" timezone, instead of the correct current timezone of "Mountain -6 DST"
Edit: Oh, sorry, and to answer your question, it began happening about 3 weeks ago.  We started noticing around March 25th, maybe a little after that.

  • My iphone 4 has changed to daylight savings.  I do not live in an area with daylight savings?  How do i keep the phone on automatic with the correct time?

My iphone 4 has changed to daylight savings.  I do not live in an area with daylight savings?  How do i keep the phone on automatic with the correct time?

I have the same issue. I live in Arizona and we also don't do that stupid daylight savings. When I put it to auto it says Denver. Location should pick up Phoenix. Needs to get fixed because I have to manually set it every time I travel now until DST is over.

  • How to authorize just one of two devices with one account.

    My friends,
I really don't know what forum to post this question: in iPhone, iPod Touch or iTunes.
Well, the problem is simple. I have one Apple Apps account, one iPhone, mine, and an iPod Touch given away to my cousin. Both share the same iTunes library and I've synced in his iPod some of the apps I've bought. The problem is that I don't want my cousin to access less buy Apple apps by himself. I've made him clear that he shouldn't try to access, but he is a rebel boy and insists on accessing and therefore he blocks my account every time he tries guessing my password. How can I remove his iPod Touch authorization to access my account?????
    Desperado!!

The iTunes account that is available on an iPhone and iPod Touch is transferred to the device via the iTunes sync process - with the iTunes account that iTunes is logged in to when syncing the device with iTunes.
The only way to resolve this and remove your iTunes account from the Touch is restoring the Touch with iTunes as a new Touch followed by not syncing iTunes content with the same iTunes account. Let your rebel cousin fend for himself with his own iTunes account followed by purchasing and downloading his own iTunes content. That way when trying to be a rebel by purchasing iTunes content with someone else's account and not respecting your wishes - especially after giving him this Touch along with free iTunes account purchased with your iTunes account, he needs to learn what consequences can mean when not respecting you and your wishes. Or take the Touch away from him. I believe it sounds like it is time for some tough love.

  • How to configure cRIO 9004 and link it with Labview?

Today i tried to connect the cRIO 9004 to my pc using the serial cable
but unfortunately the controller was not detecting on my pc. Then I
turned on the IP reset button and tried connecting it using LAN to get
an IP address but it also didn't work. I was looking for drivers on the
internet and NI website but I couldn't find any directly related ones.
Status light is blinking slowly and continuously(one flash every
couple of seconds). According to cRIO 9004 manual it indicates "That the
controller is unconfigured. Use MAX to configure the controller.
Refer to the Measurement & Automation Explorer Help for information
    about configuring the controller".
I tried MAX but its still not detecting the controller to configure.
It would be great if you'll could help me out with this as I'm configuring this type of a controller for the first time.
    Thanks and regards
    Kavin

    Hey,
First of all get sure that you have LV RT and FPGA as well as the NI RIO driver installed at your system.
Then the easiest way would be to use a crossover ethernet cable to directly connect the cRIO to your PC.
Give the PC a static IP Adress e.g. 100.100.100.100. Deactivate Firewall and Virus Scanners.
Reboot the cRIO with IP Reset Switch ON, then it should appear in MAX under Network Devices with IP 0.0.0.0.
Give the cRIO also a static IP like 100.100.100.111, set IP Reset switch to OFF before saving this settings.
Now you can install the software at your cRIO also via MAX.
Then you should be able to find it in LabVIEW by right-clicking "Project UntitledX" and "Add Targets and Devices".
There should be different tutorials online how to configure a cRIO or other Realtime targets.

  • How do I extend an existing wireless network with a 2nd time capsule?  I want to tether them with a gigabit ethernet connection.

I am having trouble with extending a wireless network using 2 timecapsules (1 is 1 terrbyte hdd, the other has a 2TB HDD.)  The first one is connected to the WAN (cable modem) and our LAN.  I would like to connect the 2nd one to the ethernet LAN and have it 'rebroadcast' the 1st ones wireless n network in order to expand the overall range of the network.  Your help is very much appreciated.

Suggest that you download and install the much more useful AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion.
I assume that Time Capsule 1 is operating correctly at this time.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility 5.6
Select Time Capsule 1 and click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons and make a note of each of the setttings on this Wireless page.
Make sure that the Ethernet cable is connected to the WAN "O" port on Time Capsule 2.
Open up AirPort Utility and select Time Capsule 2 and click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the icons and enter the exact same settings that you wrote down for Time Capsule 1
Click the Internet icon, then click the Internet Connection tab
Make sure that the settings look like this:
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Click Update and allow 25-30 seconds for Time Capsule 2 to restart to a green light
Very important......perform a power cycle of the entire network as follows:
Power off every device in any order that you wish
    Wait a minute
Power up the modem and let it run for minute by itself
Power up Time Capsule 1 the same way
Power up Time Capsule 2 the same way
Continue starting devices one at a time the same way until the entire network is back up

  • How to count occurences of a certain string in incoming real-time data? Also displaying RTC data. Current VI included

I use LabView student Express 7 on a Windows XP system.
Time-frame: we are doing final integrations for our balloon experiment today. We just got told that the press wants to view real-time data, which we haven't programmed for. I need help to get a working VI at the latest by 25.02.2004 before 0800(morning) (GMT+1).
    Note on license
It is a student balloon flight, and the data will not be used in scientific work, so the I am not breaking any license agreements (I hope).
    Problem synopsis:
The balloon continually transmits data at 9600baud. The data is a semi-repeating header followed by a constant lenght data-package arranged like this:
    BEXUS[h][m][s]BEXUS[h][m][s]
    [Raw binary data, 7channels*8sub-channels*8bits]
What the groundstation is doing right now:
Take all incomming data and save (append) the data to a file without any data-handling. (We figured we would go post-processing).
What I need to change in less than 24 hours:
    - Add a "package" counter
    - Add a display of the clock data (RTC)
How I planned to implement the changes:
    -RTC display:
The RTC data is in BCD format, since that means that if you look at the data as hex numbers, you get the hours and minutes and seconds out in "clear text". That is 12 hours is 0x12hex. I figured that I can do a match pattern BEXUS and pass the "after substring" to another match pattern BEXUS from which I feed the "before substring" to a type-cast VI (casting string to u8) and displaying that, which should give me a display of "123000" for the time 12:30:00... I couldn't get it to work at all when I tried out the supplied "beta" vi.
    - Package counter:
Counting how many BEXUS that gets detected and dividing by 2. I don't know how to do this. I've looked on the forum (a good thread on the problem: "how do I count the number of *'s in a string") but these use either loops or arrays... and I'm not sure how this works when I'm getting the data in at realtime. I cant make an array and then count it, since then the array would grow fast and possibly interfere with saving of the data??? Saving the data is critical.. without that file we cant do post-processing.
Since my time is so limited (I'm not even supposed to do the groundstation software but they called on me in the last minute because no-one else had time/wanted too/could do it) I hope that you could make an exception and provide me with working VI's (based on the one I have attached) so that I can show something to the press! (Free comercial for NI!! Since the student version shows the National Instruments water-mark on all VI's!!! Possible TV time!!)
    Thanks!
PS: even if you are to late (after 25) post anyway!
    Why:
    -I can learn from it
-the launch might be delayed due to weather conditions
    -others might find it amusing!
    Thanks again!

I have a valid example data file attached to this thread.
    If you open BEXTEST.bin in a hex-editor of your choice, you'll see the BEXUS as 42 45 58 55 53 and then the time as 00 28 09 etc.
I couldn't get Joe Guo's VI to work. It doesn't count packages correctly, and the time is not displayed correctly either.
The file was saved using a straight save to file VI.
The data is from actual launching area tests performed a few mintues ago. The time displayed is "On time" e.g. how long the gondola has been powered up.
I have a spare T-junction, so I can hook into the balloon real-time data as we fly, in case anyone care to see if they can figure out why the latest version of Joe Guo's program is not displaying correctly.
    I will monitor this
thread during and after flight to see if anyone can make it in time!
    Thanks for the great effort!!

  • How to create a c++ shared library (.so) for linux real time (for myRio) with Eclipse to use in LabView?

I tried already these Tutorials and Advices but I didn't find a solution:
    - http://www.ni.com/tutorial/14690/en/

    - and some more
I want use c++ codes on linux real time. For testing reasons I want to have a function that adds 2 values and gives the result.
    I've done these steps:
    1. writing a c++ file in Eclipse (see screensot 2)
    2. building a shared library (.so) from my c++ project in Eclipse (with Cross GCC)
    3. putting this file on myRio (path: /usr/local/lib/)
    4. creating a VI that calls this library from Labview with a "Call Library Function Node" (see screenshot3)
    5. Setting the properties for the "Call Library Function Node" (see screenshots 4-7)
After I run this VI i get this error message: LabVIEW:  (Hex 0x627) The function name for the ... node cannot be found in the library. To correct this error, right-click the Call Library Function Node and select Configure from the shortcut menu. Then choose the correct function name. (see screenshot1)
I've tried a lot things to solve this problem but I couldn't find a solution. Would be very happy if anyone can help me. I guess that I have to edit my c++ code to export my function (symbol). But I have no idea how to make it. I also tried it with a dll file in the same folder but it didn't help.
Perhaps someone can send an example which works on myRIO.
    Thanks!

can see it in the screenshot8 there is a function called "_Z8AddierenddPd" instead of "Addieren". I copied this name to Labview (see screenshot9) and it worked.
I'm sure that there is a way to compile the shared folder with gcc without decorations (mangling). But I don't know how. If someone has a recommendation I would be very glad!
Prepend each function declaration that you want to be available without name decoration with
    extern "C" <your function declaration>
Or if you have multiple functions you want to export you can in the header file where you declare your functions simply use:
    #ifdef __cplusplus
    extern "C" {
    #endif
    <all your function declarations>
    #ifdef __cplusplus
    #endif
