How do I use TARGET_URL or j_target_url with 8.1sp1?

Question

          Before upgrading from 6.1, We were setting j_target_url in the session to
          always take users that have successfully logged in to a certain page. Now
          after upgrading to 8.1sp1, we can no longer do this. Setting the
          j_target_url or AuthFilter.TARGET_URL in the session does not work. Is
          there another method to set the j_target_url or AuthFilter.TARGET_URL
          session key?

I'm now using this code to fade in each of the SWFs:
function contactStage(e:MouseEvent):void {
    var newSWFRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("swfs/"+e.currentTarget.name+".swf");
    myTweenIn = new Tween(gallery,  "alpha", None.easeOut, 0, 1, 0.2, true);
    gallery.load(newSWFRequest);
    gallery.x = Xpos;
    gallery.y = Ypos;
But I cannot add the fade out function. I have amended the above code to create:
