Can't set up an internet connection on BEFW11S4 if WEP is Enabled

When I enable wep I can't make a network connection. I see select the network name under Internet Connection (on Mac G4, OSX) but the passord is declined. Where do I find the WEP Passord? Isn't it the same as the WEP Encryption Number (WEP Phrase)?

In the non-working computer, temporarily turn off the software firewall, and see if that helps.
Make sure you have the latest driver for your wireless card.
Make sure you have the latest firmware for your router.
If you still have a problem connecting:
Some Apple users have needed to set their computers to a fixed LAN IP address.  Linksys has some very specific rules about using fixed LAN IP addresses:
Rules for using fixed LAN IP addresses on Linksys routers:
With Linksys routers, a fixed (static) LAN IP addresses must be assigned in the device that is using the address. So you need to enter the fixed address in the computer or printer, not in the router.
When using a Linksys router, any fixed LAN IP address must be outside the DHCP server range (typically 192.168.1.100 thru 192.168.1.149), and it cannot end in 0, 1, or 255.
Therefore any fixed LAN IP address would normally need to be in the range of
192.168.1.2 thru 192.168.1.99 or
192.168.1.150 thru 192.168.1.254
assuming you are still using the default DHCP server range.
Also, in the computer, when you set up a static LAN IP address, you would need to set the "Subnet mask" to 255.255.255.0 and the "Default Gateway" to 192.168.1.1  and the "DNS server" to 192.168.1.1
It is also important that no two devices on your network be set to the same static LAN IP address.

Please, help me to set up wireless Internet connection. My router is WRT54GS. I able to get online when computer is wired direct to VPN internet cable.
First, I can’t open password request screen on http://192.168.1.1.
Second, when "Setup wizard" runs step #6 (“Check the router’s status”), the program asks for the password. Default password “admin” is rejected by the program and I can’t install Linksys software. Just in case I already pressed reset switch on the back of the router but to no avail.
Third, I don’t find out my Ethernet Adapter Wireless Network Connection and correct router’s IP address using ipconfig/all command after connecting WRT54GS with my computer. Ethernet adapter: DHCP disabled, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, IP address 10.32.132.193, default gate 10.32.132.1.
Tell me please: what’s the matter?

    hi pensive ,
Seems interesting , first do this -  push the reset button on the back of router .
push it till 30 seconds , unplug the power cable and plug in the power cable back in After completion of 30 seconds.
then try to log into , 192.168.1.1 again . with the password "admin".
    see if it reply?
    Else -
    strt>cmd>ipconfig /all - post the result ?

Anyways i did not see any screen shot.

  • How can I set up Wi-Fi connection between my iPhone 4 & my wireless Linksys WRT54G router?

How can I set up Wi-Fi connection between this iPhone I bought and my wireless Linksys router (WRT54G) that I'm using for home netwrking for my PCs?
Tried settings on iPhone, selceted Wi-Fi connection, then pressed my network name shown on this iPhone, but nothing happens after that.

Do you not get the icon on the top bar of the iPhone?
Once you press on the network, the iPhone should connect to it. If the Network has a wep or WPA key it should be requested at that time.
Once the above has been completed, then the iPhone is connected. And you can use the wifi conneftion to browse the internet. It should also show a checkmark next to the network signifying it connected.
If its having trouble connecting or taking some time you should see the   next to the network spinning around.

  • Can I use Ethernet for Internet connection and Airport express for printer

How / can I use Ethernet for Internet connection and use an airport express to set up wifi for printer and Apple TV?
    Macbook Pro. OS X 10.9.4

I've never tried it, so I don't know what the results will be.
However, you can move Ethernet to the top of the Services list in Network System Prefs which will cause it to be the Internet source. There is a command in the gear menu to set the Service order.  However, after thinking about it, if there isn't an internet connection via Wi-Fi, it might automatically drop down to the Ethernet connection.
Then, you can set up your Wi-Fi so that it doesn't connect to the Internet, as Linc stated. How to do that would be dependent on the Router.

  • Setting up secure internet connection

how can i create a secure internet connection on my imac 10.5.8?
I notice when i click on the airport icon at the top of the screen there are other networks in the neighborhood that a listed but each one has a lock next to it requiring password. Any guidance would be great. thanks

In addition to Ralph's excellent advice, I've got a couple of questions:
What type of internet connection and modem do you have and who is your ISP?
If you have cable or FioS and the Mac is within ethernet cable distance from the modem, that type of connection is faster and more reliable (fewer signal dropouts than wireless).
Or are you trying to set up a wireless home network?
In that case, you need a wireless router; follow Ralph's suggestions. Most routers do not come with Mac-friendly setup software, so you will need to log into the router's website (should be in your manual and usually something like 192.168.x.x; user name and password usually preset, but should be changed once setup is complete). After logging in, you can go through the settings and security is best at WPA2.
+I notice when i click on the airport icon at the top of the screen there are other networks in the neighborhood that a listed but each one has a lock next to it requiring password.+
Or are you simply trying to use your neighbors' internet connection? You won't be able to.

  • Can I set up TC without connecting it to the internet?

I access the internet on a wireless network and do not have a direct line for my internet connection. Is it possible to set up Time Capsule for Time Machine backups without connecting it to the network? Or do I have to use TC in bridge mode?

In option 2 that you described, it sounds like I will actually be connecting to the Time Capsule through the primary wireless router on the existing network that I get my internet access from - if this is the case, won't the back-ups be painfully slow?
Yes, for best backup performance you would want to be connected directly to the TC by wire.
And can I completely prevent access to my Time Capsule by turning off the Sharing and Guest network options in this set-up?
In this configuration, the TC would not be performing as a router. The Guest network option would not be available.

  • Windows Mobile 6 & BT stack - How to set PC - PDA - Internet connection

    Hello,
My configuration : another manufacture laptop with True Mobile 350 (Toshiba stack)
and a PDA Windows Mobile 6 PocketPc (Phone Edition)(TyTn)
I would like to use my PDA as a PAN server to use its internet connection with my laptop (PC -> PDA -> Internet. I've paired the two devices, but when I activated the Internet sharing on my PDA i've no feature on my laptop to access the PAN created by the PDA.
"The auto discovery is the only way to set up services. However, the PAN service doesn't display unless the devices are paired.
Toshiba can only Pair with devices seen during discovery.... "

I'm not the only one to have a problem and I have already installed the v5 of the stack.

    Hi
Did you already check this Toshiba Bluetooth "FAQ" and "How to" area??
    http://aps.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/
There you can find useful HOW TO documents for example about:
    - InternetAccess on PDA via PAN using Notebook as Gateway
    - Browse Notebook-share via PDA and PAN

Maybe you will find some useful advices.
PS: Sorry Im not a BT expert and therefore I cannot say much about this case

  • Can i set up a wired connection in another room?

    Hello BT community forums
I am a BT customer using the BT homehub 2.0 connected to my main phone line.
My question is: Downstairs I have the typical setup with my computer for wireless to my sons bedroom in the newly built extentions but the wireless connection is poor and disconnects often. This extentions bedroom has a phoneline in aswell with a fully working BT homephone, would I be able to set up a wired connection to the computer in the extention bedroom using this phoneline so we can have a wired connection to my sons computer?
If any other information is required please ask and I will provide.
Thank you for any help and advice provided.

No you can't use the phone line to provide an Ethernet connection to your Son's computer. Also, you can't have two Routers on the same Telephone Line. Some options are:
Move the BT HH to a position nearer your Son's room
Use a pair of Powerline Ethernet adapters to provide Ethernet connection ove your Mains wiring
Run an Ethernet Cat5 cable from the Router to your Son's room
Set up a Wireless "repeater" using WDS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_Distribution_System
Is there a good reason why the Wireless performance is so poor? How far is the computer from the Router and how many/ what construction are the intervening walls?
Is it possible that there is another Wireless signal interfering with yours? Have you tried changing Wireless Channel?

Try a complete power cycle, maybe the devices will refresh and 'find' each other
Power down the PC first then the router and then the modem - wait a minute or so -- then power them back up in reverse order waiting for the correct lights to come in each device before moving on to power up the next device
I would think this should get you connected again since you had a good connection up to yesterday
If not check back -- something may have been corrupted and there are other procedures to try if so - myself or some one else will be glad to assist

  • Setting-up the Internet Connection

Hi All, my systems has the following Linksys products:

    wireless router 1 - WRT54GS (1st floor)
    wireless router 2 - WRT54G (2nd floor)

I was able to connect all the PC to the internet. My problem is I could not make all the PC be in same Gateway number in which I could not share the network printers and files to all PCs. Is there any way to solve this problem? Below are settings to each device:
    ADSL2MUE - Bridge Mode only
    WRT54G - IP Address (192.168.1.1), PPPoE
    WRT54GS - IP Adress (192.168.2.1), DHCP
    * ADSL2MUE Internet Port is connected to WRT54G Internet port
    * WRT54G Ethernet Port 1 is connected to SR2024 Ethernet Port

    * Printer 1 is connected to SR2024 Ethernet port (2nd floor)
    * Printer 2 is connected to WRT54GS Ethernet Port (1st floor)
    * All PCs in the 1st floor is using 192.168.2.1 gateway number thru WRT54GS wireless connection.
    * All PCs in the 2nd floor is using 192.168.1.1 gateway number thru WRT54G and SR2024.
I need your help on this.
    Best rgds, joven

It does not matter how you set the internet connection type on the second router when nothing connects to the internet port. The internet connection type is used for the configure of the connection through the internet port. As nothing is connected in the internet port the setting is basically inoperable and makes no difference whatever you set there. You should not set a static IP address as that may affect the routing tables on the router even if the internet interface is down. Thus, just leave it on Automatic/DHCP and it should be fine.

  • My iPad keeps loosing the internet connection. All of my other devices work. Last time this happened, comcast charged $49 to fix it. They said that it's somethin that I downloaded. How can I get back my internet connection on my iPad ?

My iPad keeps loosing the internet connection. Last time this happened comcast charged $49 to fix it. They said that the problem was perhaps caused by something that I down loaded. All my other devices still connected to internet. Tried to reset my settings. Still won't work. Any advice ?

First, changing your DNS settings could not possibly have any effect on this problem.
When you see an exclamation point in the Wi-Fi menu, from the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network
Click the Assist me button and select Assistant. Follow the prompts. You may get a warning that Wi-Fi is not available, that you're too far from the base station, or that you're using the wrong password.
Assuming that you've ruled out those possibilities, click the lock icon in the lower left corner of the preference pane and authenticate, if necessary. From the Location menu at the top of the window, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.

Your iMac with ARD... this is the bona fide, ($300/$500) "Remote Desktop.app" admin install, or do you mean that you have ARD "Remote Management" access enabled or have tried to control Vista with Microsoft's similarly-named "[Remote Desktop Connection|http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/remote-desktop/default.mspx]" app? (Just making sure—it would be a very different conversation otherwise.)
Remote Desktop does lots of fancy stuff, but for the Observe and Control mechanisms it behaves as a plain-jane VNC client. It can connect to any standards-compliant VNC server. You should, for example, be able to run a different VNC client on your Mac and have a similar success/failure experience; perhaps the excelent [Chicken of the VNC|http://sourceforge.net/projects/cotvnc>. If you have the same failures, we'll still help, but ARD is obviously not the culprit. In any case, the usual suspects for windows VNC servers include UltraVNC, realVNC \[paid ver. required for vista\], and TightVNC. They all have caviats, but they're fairly well documented. Vista itself throws VNC under the bus "in favor of security" but again, you'll find lots of users in the same boat; unable to get the VNC server working on the Vista side. Your statement that you "couldn't even see the machines connected to it to get the IP" was bit confusing though, as devices don't need to be running a VNC server to at least show up in a scan (IP printers should appear, for example). Are you sure they're on the same subnet of the same lan/being otherwise scanned for correctly; or if remote, are you sure the remote Vista laptop is directly addressable with NAT from the web?
Let us know. Good luck. Joel
