How do you install a Canon Pixma MP830 into Airport Extreme

Got this new printer which works great when USB is attached directly to the G4 laptop.
Spent 5 hours yesterday trying to get the Airport Extreme to recognize the new printer but could not figure it out.
How does one go about getting the printer to work when its plugged into the Extreme base station?
Thank you

What firmware version does the Airport Utility report is installed on the Airport Express?
If it isn't 6.3, you should update the firmware to 6.3. I have read that other printer issues have been resolved by either upgrading or downgrading the firmware. In this case, I would suggest upgrading the firmware if it isn't up-to-date, and we'll see if that works. You can download the latest firmware from this website:

  • How do you update the firmware on 1st Gen Airport Extreme in OSX Mountain Lion?

A friend gave me a old but never used 1st Gen Airport Extreme 802.11n WiFi Wireless Base Station.  I have a couple WiFi dead zones in my house and was told that I could daisy chain the Apple Airport Extreme off of my Verizon FIOS router/modem (802.11G) to fill in the dead spots.  During set up the Airport Utility told me that "This version of AirPort Utility requires this AirPort Extreme use firmware version 7.3.1 or later.  Go to AirPort Service and Support (link) for more information.
I updated the Airport Utility to the latest version (6.2) and I am still getting the same error message and no other option to update it's firmware.  Anyone know of a work around or am I fighting to losing battle here.  I tried to contact Apple support, but when I entered the serial number for the Base Station it said the product was over 5 years old and didn't qualify for support service program.

was told that I could daisy chain the Apple Airport Extreme off of my Verizon FIOS router/modem (802.11G) to fill in the dead spots
Not sure what you mean by "daisy chain".  The AirPort Extreme cannot "repeat" or "extend" the wireless signal from the FIOS router if you are planning to do this using wireless only.
You always need at least 2 Apple routers to be able to "extend a wireless network" using wireless only. The Apple routers would not be compatible with FIOS routers for this type of purpose.
If you can connect the AirPort Extreme to the FIOS router using a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection, then the AirPOrt could be configured to provide more wireless signal coverage that way. If you cannot run the cable, it might be possible to use a pair of Ethernet powerline adapters to send a signal over the existing AC power lines in your home.
When you open AirPort Utility 6.x and a firmware update is available, there is usually a red number next to the AirPort Exreme icon. Click on the red number......or if it does not appear, click on the  AirPort Extreme icon and then hold down the option key on a Mac as you click on the Version number that is is displayed to see more "options".

  • How do I install an HP C4100 printer to airport extreme?

I can connect my C4100 via USB directly to my laptop, but I don't know how to install it to airport extreme. When I attempt to print using airport extreme, I get a connection failure. Can you provide instructions? (I am a new MAC user).
    Thanks.

    Hi there,
this morning I resolved the printing issue with my HP psc 1217 All in one.
I was almost ready to go into the next computer store to buy a airport compliant device when I found this link for more than 600 printer drivers:
    http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs#Printers
My psc 1217 is not directly listed, but works well with the drivert for the 1210 device.
the photosmart C4100 is also listed so it should work as well.
What you have to do is:
    go to the page: http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs#Printers
    1. download the package: Foomatic-RIP (88k) and install
    2. download the package: espgs-7.07.1.ppc.dmg (5.4MB) and install
    3. download the package: hpijs-2.7.6.U.dmg and install
go to the printer manager and select the driver from the list you will see a bunch of newly installed printers.- Works well for me and allows me to keep my loved psc1217.
    Cheers,

  • How do you install a Canon imageClass MF4150

After lots of effort eventually I was able to install this all in one machine on my previous 17" iMac {Tiger OSx 10.4.} That machine go stolen so here I am thinking I'm so "lucky" to get a free brand new bigger iMac and with the "fabulous" new Leopard OS.
Boy was I wrong. So I'm over the fact that my other printer, an HP1600 Colour Laser will not easily run with Leopard. But now despite downloading the appropriate drivers from the Canon site this machine will not run either.
Maybe I've just not had the time to get used to my new iMac, but what am I missing? Everyone {including those really great commercials} says Mac is easy. So far that's not the case for me.
    Anyone know anything?
    Thanks.

    Hi-diddely Ho Ned,
The MF4150 uses Canon's proprietary UFR2 printer driver. The latest Leopard compatible version is v1.70, so make sure you have this version for starters. The CD that came with the machine may have an older version so download v1.70 from any Canon web site.
With the new version downloaded and unpacked, run the installer. If you had installed a previous version of the driver, at the menu that shows Easy Install, change this to uninstall to remove the previous version. If a previous version was not installed, continue the installation and restart when prompted.
If the MF4150 is connected to your new iMac via USB, it should appear in the printer list when you open System Preferences > Print & Fax. If it is not appearing in the list, click the + to add it. From the Default view, you should see the MF4150 listed. By selecting it, the Print Using menu should automatically change to Canon UFR2 Printer (or something similar).
If the MF4150 is connected to the Mac via Ethernet, then you will have to open System Preferences > Print & Fax, click + and select More Printers. From this menu there will be the option of Canon IP (UFR2). Selecting this option presents a new window, where you enter the ip address of the MF4150 and a queue name of LP. When you click Add the driver software should select the appropriate printer model.
If the MF is connected to your Mac via some other method to those I've mentioned above, then please reply.

  • I cannot print wirelessly to Canon PIXMA 560 using Airport Extreme and Vista PC.  Printer worked fine with Netgear previously.  With USB from printer direct to Laptop it will print.  The printer is definitely set up correctly to acknowledge the router.  W

When I connect the printer to the Airport via USB and run Bonjour, it recognizes that I have a Canon printer but does not have the mp560 as one of the choices.
I spoke with Apple support but they could not help...they said they thought it was a Windows issue and that it had something to do with one of the ports needing to get "unstuck" or something like that...this is really annoying because while the Airport is so much better than the Netgear it defeats the purpose of having the wireless printer, which worked so well previously.
    Can anyone offer advice?  Thanks.

Unfortunately, not all USB printers are compatible with AirPort base stations. In addition, the  AirPort's USB port does not support the "advanced" printer functions, like scanning, copying or faxing, of multi-function printers.
To see if your printer is compatible, take a look at thisiFelix Unofficial AirPort Printer Compatibility link. If your printer isn't listed, it doesn't necessarily mean it won't work, but simply that it has not been verified. iFelix also provides the following workaround for printers not on the list that would certainly be worth a try.
Also you can try this Apple Tech Support article to see if it will help: Printer troubleshooting for AirPort Base Stations and Time Capsule
Finally, check out this IBM support article to see if your printer is listed as having a Postscript or PCL3 interface. If it does, then it will most likely work with the AirPort's USB port. Printers that use the "HP LIDIL" interface must be connected to a computer directly and will not work.

Hello, not sure about the Cannon SW, but are you trying to Scan or Print?

  • I am trying to install a Canon Pixma MG8220 which requires my Airport Extreme password. I do no know it. I then  went to default Airport settings and renamed my network, but Airport required my password. How do I create a new password?

How do I create a new password for my Airport Extreme if I do not know the old password?

If you have the Mac that you used to configure the AirPort Extreme originally, you may be able to retrieve the password from KeyChain Access.
See this User Tip from forum expert Tesserax:
AirPort - Regain Access from Forgotten Passwords
If still no luck, you can reset the passwords again. Pay very close attention to the information about a Soft Reset in this Apple support document:

  • Printing Problems with Canon Pixma MP830 under 10.5.5.

    Hi All.
Strange one here. I'll try to keep it short.
A client just bought a 24" iMac (running Leopard 10.5.5) and all was great until they tried to connect their Canon Pixma MP830 to it. The client installed connected the printer to the USB port in back, installed the software from the Canon CD, and soon discovered they could not print from any application -- however, they could do a test print (cleanings, alignments, test, etc.) without issue.
They ended up calling both Apple and Canon for several sessions and no one could figure it out.
So I get the call. I remove the printer completely from the system, emtpied the trash, repair permissions, blew out the user and system cache, restart and installed the fresh Leopard-friendly drivers from Canon. I also ran the firmware upgrade for the printer, which took just fine. When I did a test print -- no problem. When I tried to print from Safari -- nothing.
So I then I thought I would try the Gutenprint v5.1.3 drivers for that printer. Nada.
I downloaded the GutenPrint 5.2.0-beta4 drivers, still nada.
At a last ditch effort I tried a new USB cable, still nada.
Curious if anyone has seen this problem and perhaps as a solution? Aside from buying a new printer that is (they are already shopping, but not happy about it).
    Thanks!

    Hi there,
In reading your post I'd be curious to see the cups error log. Given that the Gutenprint drivers would not print also, I would say that something is wrong with the core printing system. The log would show which filter is causing the spooler to stop.
Thinking that it is CUPS related, I would try resetting printing system (if you haven't done so already). Then I would add the queue again using the Gutenprint driver for starters. If this doesn't work then no need to try the Canon driver.
Note that the Canon test print is not an actual print but an instruction to output the inbuilt data. But the test print via the Gutenprint printer queue is a page generated by CUPS. So this would suggest that the CUPS usb backend is okay and something further up the spool creation process is failing. Again, the cups error log would give some clues as to what is going wrong. As to why both driver sets are failing is interesting...

  • My Canon Pixma MP830 scanner does not work

I recently upgraded to a new iMac 27 inch and my Canon Pixma MP830 no longer scans, but it still prints just fine.  It was working on my old Mac Pro using Yosemite 10.10.1 but no longer lets me save scans using Yosemite 10.10.1 on the iMac.  Any suggestions or is there a new scanner/printer that would be compatible.

Canon has stopped providing an ICA driver for the MP830. The ICA driver is used by the Apple scanning application Image Capture and third party apps like Photoshop.
And the last TWAIN driver Canon released for the MP830 was for OS X 10.8. You may still be able to use this 10.8 scanner driver on 10.10 so here is a link to it. Note that its digital signature may not allow it to be installed on 10.10 so you will need to right-click on the installer and select Open from the pop-up menu that appears. Then you will have the option to install it.
To then scan you will need a TWAIN scanning application. Canon's MP Navigator scanner application that supports the MP830 was also last released for 10.8 but may work on 10.10. Here is a link. You will most likely need to perform the same action written above to install this application on 10.10.
If the old applications don't install or operate on 10.10 then a new device may be required. As for a recommendation, have a look at this Apple article showing brands and models of All In One devices that the printer and scanner driver (and even fax driver) are available from Apple.

  • Please help me, How to connect my printer Canon pixma MP160 to my mac OS X Yosemite?

please help me, How to connect my printer Canon pixma MP160 to my mac OS X Yosemite?

You do not need the Setup Assistant; in fact, you do not need any software on an external hard drive. I have two LaCie's; I erased the drive as soon as I plugged it in. You will need to format it anyway because most hard drives come Windows formatted. So, if you only want to use it with the Mac, highlight it in Disk Utility and choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the format and the GUID Partition scheme under Options. While doing that, it will erase the drive (and get rid of the LaCie software) - once finished, your drive is ready to use for Time Machine or any other backup plans you have for it.

Hmmm? A quick google search for external optical readers turns up many in the $20-$40 (USD) range. Didn't convert to £ or include any VAT charges, but you should be able to get something significantly cheaper than £70. That's your simplest solution.

  • How do you install HP Photosmart Apple software with just an iPad?

I have an iPad 2 with iOS 7 and a new HP Photosmart 7520 all in one printer. How do you install the Apple software on the CD if you don't have a computer to do so?
Is there some kind of wifi internet install of the CD's software or do I have to go find a computer to do this?
This is frustrating and I can't find info that says what to do.
Thanks in advance for any help with this.

You should not need to install the CD software.
Your Printer Model Appears to be AirPrint Compatible as found in the list of printers here.

Basically all you would need to do is connect the Printer to the Same Wifi network your iPad is connected to and off you go.
