I have just got the new version of iTunes. It does not seem to be recognising either my iPhone 5 or iPhone 4. They do not appear in the device list at all, they are clearly conencted to my computer as they are charging off it, but I can't sync them.

They were both functioning fine yesterday, but after the v.11 download today they aren't being recognised. Can anyone help me to get them syncing again? I am using an iMac, Mac OS X v.10.7.5, if thats of any significance.

Before connecting your devices again reboot your devices. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

Make sure you are adding events to the iCloud calendar as that is the only one that syncs with iCloud. Check your default calendar by going to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Calendar. Be sure you have selected the calendar listed under your iCloud account name as your default.
If you're settings are correct and it still won't sync, try going to Settings>iCloud and turning Calendars to Off, then back On. If the calendar in iCloud has all your events, when you are prompted about what to do with the iCloud calendar when you turn it off, choose Delete from My iPhone. It will be synced back to your phone when you turn Calendars back to On.

Try removing your sim and insert it again and make sure that its clean as well as the sim tray. insert it seucrely locked in place. See if it works, quick fix. If not try to use a different sim or try your sim to a different h/s. For you to be able to isolate if its with your sim or iPhone. Tricky Tips!

I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong during the uninstall/reinstall process. In the Control Panel, Add/Remove programs, look for '''Mozilla Firefox'''. Make sure to save (do not delete) your personal settings when uninstalling.

Having a variety of crashes with the new version of Firefox. There does not seem to be a pattern

Several things have happened since the installation of the latest version of FireFox:
1. Intermittent opening of the browser from the desktop.
a) Opens in safe mode no problem provided shift key is used.
b) Opens sometimes and remains open
i) Sometimes page switches cause the browser to close
ii) Sometimes page switches continue as expected
c) Opens then closes a few seconds later
2. Intermittent opening of project pages from BOINC
a) Sometimes opens and allows browsing of the science projects website
b) Opens then immediately closes
c) Opens and page switches cause the browser to close
There does not seem to be a discernible pattern to what is going to happen each time the browser is opened.
The only crash report I have was submitted November 2010. I am not aware of any crash reports that have been generated for the current problems on my system.

My observation so far is that if you just type keywords, Mail wants to search everything. The reason for the missing results, I think, is because the email is not getting indexed properly. If you rebuild, then things get indexed correctly.
I tried your idea with the quote. Now, no matter what I type, I always get a set of options. But I cannot tell if that was enabled by the quote or if it was already going to do that, because now I don't need the quote to get a list of various options. The first, which I've always gotten is "message contains", but now I'm seeing subject suggestions and such.
Very confusing. I'm wondering if spotlight hasn't been doing some incremental work in the background that we don't know about, and some things will just magically start working now.

In large PDF files my cursor moves around the page at warp speed. It does not seem to make any difference if I slow it down with Sys Prefs. This is not only in preview but also other programs to open PDFs.

This happens in Safari, Preview and other programs that use PDF files. Using the USB keyboard and mouse the same problem does not go away.

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

I'm going on vacation with my family and I was wondering how can your iPhone 4S with Verizon Wireless to take pictures and listen to music without being charged for roaming if you'll be traveling outside the United States? I have heard that you can your iPhone if you turn on Airplane mode but I am not sure if this is true or do you have to turn off a certain thing on the iPhone?

Airplane mode turns off all radios.
The iPhone includes the ability to enable wi-fi and Bluetooth access with Airplane mode enabled so you can access the internet with your iPhone via an available wi-fi network and/or access a Bluetooth device such as speakers or a headset. Being able to place or receive and calls and the same for SMS/MMS and cellular data access is prevented with Airplane mode enabled.
