How does the String class achieve this.

How come we can do the following with the String class:
// The class is initialized using the equals sign!
String s = "Hello, World"";I am currently checking the string class but can not find what makes the above possible. could anyone help me?

ok sorry for not being so clear :)
When having a String class, we can initialize it by doing the following:
String myString = "Hello World"; Whis as JosAH explained it is handeled by the compiler. However my common sense tells me that the String class is nothing but a normal class (not like int, long, etc). So if it a normal class, then in that class there is a way to understand what = "somthing" means, and update it's state accordingly.
I would like to do the same think with my class. example:
Person MyPerson = "John, Smith";The above is a stupid example, however it gathers my point. The String class sess what is inside the quates and updates it state (with the help of the compiler). Can the Person class do the same? how?

    Does the phone rename one? Overwrite one? What occurs??

    That is exactly what I was talking about. I expected as much however I noticed the following occur. I save a photo from one source, and saved the exact same photo from another source (both have the same filename) I then deleted the first one that I saved, and both photos were deleted.

  • How does the viewcontroller class draw that cool "back" button?

    When you use a view controller, as you get deeper, you see the "back" button on the screen. I don't use a top level view controller, but when I get to my second level down, i want to add a view controller, with the "back" enabled. I figured it might be easier just to create a toolbar of my own and put in a button just like there. Is there a predefined system button that has "back" inside it? anybody know where this kind of tapered button shape is really stored on the system? or how to get this shape programmatically? Weird that apple doesn't have a programmatic interface exposed for this button type, which they are using.

    Ah, but when I am doing this manually, and since I don't have a previous view controller, I want to fake up this button because it has a nice shape; where is this button coming from? it is clearly built in but not in the list of "standard" buttons which is a very short list I might add. This icon is a PNG resource undoubtedly in some framework or somewhere, and where is it, or how can I get this button to come up programmatically it is not a simple oval.

  • How does the Class javax.security.auth.Subject work?

    Hi,
    i don't understand how does the class Subject work.
    First i will describe how do i understand u can use the class Subject
    This is the way you can create a Subject(i think):
    1. create a LoginContext, where u can tell over its parameter which
    Module to use
    2. a LoginModule will be used
    3. now the LoginModule create a Subject
    if this steps right--> ok, else--> please write how it really works
    Now the questions:
    1. Where do the LoginModule get the username and stuff like this from
    to fill the Subjects? Principals?
    2. Where will be the Subject save, at server or at client side?
    when save on server: how to reference a Subject is belong to the
    right Client?
    when save on client: how to ensure the client do not modify it?
    3. In the documentation of JavaTM 2 Platform Std. Ed. v1.4.1, there is
    no advice, that the class have any FIELDS, but then where the
    principals are saved?
    4. The Class Subject do not have any methodes to modify the principals,
    so how to modify it if necessary?
    i think this is enough for the beginnig :)
    thanx,

    Hi
    Let me try to answer. I am a bit confused too.
    Hi,
    i don't understand how does the class Subject work.
    First i will describe how do i understand u can use
    the class Subject
    This is the way you can create a Subject(i think):
    1. create a LoginContext, where u can tell over its
    parameter which
    Module to use
    2. a LoginModule will be used
    3. now the LoginModule create a Subject
    Correct.if this steps right--> ok, else--> please write how it
    really works
    Now the questions:
    1. Where do the LoginModule get the username and stuff
    like this from
    to fill the Subjects? Principals?
    The Loginmodule does not need the user name. The username is
    only relevant to your application not to JAAS. Consider a standaalone
    application. Whoever starts the application, becomes the user.
    After you start the application, and login (whatever way), your subject
    is created. This subject pertains to the person who is executing the application, not the application specific userid/username. So the user id or name is not required. There is only one user, who is running the application. The JAAS architecture is more relevant for UNIX like
    permission/grant structure, which determines who can execute what.
    >
    2. Where will be the Subject save, at server or at
    client side?
    Again the Subject has nothing to do with your application specific userid. It will be there in the LoginContext. So in a sense a LoginContext is actually a user, not a Subject.
    when save on server: how to reference a Subject is
    is belong to the
    right Client?
    when save on client: how to ensure the client do
    do not modify it?
    In a client server mode, usually the login is done twice. You have to find a way to communicate the subject to the server.3. In the documentation of JavaTM 2 Platform Std. Ed.
    v1.4.1, there is
    no advice, that the class have any FIELDS, but then
    en where the
    principals are saved?
    4. The Class Subject do not have any methodes to
    modify the principals,
    so how to modify it if necessary?
    I think you can add Principals. That is definitely there.i think this is enough for the beginnig :)
    thanx,
    edo
    Hope this helps. As of now I do not think JAAS provides a very good architecture for authorization.
    cheers

  • How to implement the String class "split()" method (JDK1.4) in JDK 1.3

    is it possible , with some code, to implement the split() method of the String class......which is added in JDK1.4 ..... in JDK1.3
    would be helpful if anyone could suggest some code for this...

    Here it is
    public static String[] split(String source, char separ){
    answer=new Vector();
    int position=-1, newPosition;
    while ((newPosition=source.indexOf(separ,position+1))>=0){

    } //split

  • What does the trim() method of the String class do in special cases?

    Looking here ( String (Java Platform SE 7 ) ), I understand that the trim() method of the String class "returns a copy of the string, with leading and trailing whitespace omitted", but I don't understand what the last special case involving Unicode characters is exactly.
    Looking here ( List of Unicode characters - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ), I see that U+0020 is a space character, and I also see the characters that follow the space character (such as the exclamation mark character).
    So, I decided to write a small code sample to try and replicate the behaviour that I quoted (from the API documentation of the trim method) in the multi-line comment of this same code sample. Here is the code sample.:
    public class TrimTester {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
             * "Otherwise, let k be the index of the first character in the string whose code
             * is greater than '\u0020', and let m be the index of the last character in the
             * string whose code is greater than '\u0020'. A new String object is created,
             * representing the substring of this string that begins with the character at
             * index k and ends with the character at index m-that is, the result of
             * this.substring(k, m+1)."
            String str = "aa!Hello$bb";
            System.out.println(str.trim());
    However, what is printed is "aa!Hello$bb" (without the quotes) instead of "!Hello$" (without the quotes).
    Any input to help me better understand what is going on would be greatly appreciated!

    That's not what I was thinking; I was thinking about the special case where the are characters in the String whose Unicode codes are greater than \u0020.
    In other words, I was trying to trigger what the following quote talks about.:
    Otherwise, let k be the index of the first character in the string whose code is greater than '\u0020', and let m be the index of the last character in the string whose code is greater than '\u0020'. A new String object is created, representing the substring of this string that begins with the character at index k and ends with the character at index m-that is, the result of this.substring(k, m+1).
    Basically, shouldn't the String returned be the String that is returned by the String class' substring(3,9+1) method (because the '!' and '$' characters have a Unicode code greater than \u0020)?
    It seems to not be the case, but why?

  • How does the Java card simulator work? and other misc questions

    First, I have a class inherited from Applet. Okay, I did that.
    How do I convert this class to a CAP file? I mean I have a class file which is compiled by javac, do I use this file to convert into a CAP file? What is an AID? Do I make up this AID?
    In this .scr file (APDU Script), I understand the first 4 bytes, it means to create an Applet, but what about the rest? I know there are some intermixes of lengths and AIDs, I just can't decipher this.

  • How does the Reader or Acrobat determine which plug-ins should be loaded

    Hi,
    I have a custom plug-in for Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat.
    The custom plug-in api file will be available in the plugins folder for all users.
    But I want the plug-in to load for few users only.
    Is there any registry key or any other property available to achieve this?
    How does the Reader or Acrobat determine which plug-ins should be loaded?
    Thanks,
    Vatsapal

    Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat looks for files with extension .api in the plugins folder.

  • TRFC internals - how does the async processing happen?

    tRFC internals - how does the async processing happen?
    Dear all,
    With the document "[https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/f078394a-4469-2910-c4bf-853c75674694|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/f078394a-4469-2910-c4bf-853c75674694]" there is an excellent place to read about SAP RFCs (remote function calls).
    Pages 94 to 96 describe in detail how tFRC (transactional RFC) works.
    However, there is still something unclear for me with the following sentence on page 94:
    "The truly exciting part happens when the program
    issues a COMMIT WORK command. The recorded calls
    are executed asynchronously in a special set of tRFC
    processing sessions created for each transaction ID..."
    Maybe someone can answer the following questions:
    a) what does exactly trigger and execute the tRFC?
    b) is it the ABAP runtime system itself, spawning the additional task in DIA?
    c) if multiple tRFC LUWs have been recorded, they are all executed in parallel by this procedure!?
    d) does the execution try to utilize all available DIA processes?
    e) how do the rdisp/rfc_... parameter come into the game?
       are they evaluated? We have seen all DIA occupied by the tRFCs executed!
    Best regards,
    Peter
    P.S.: if someone has answers to these ones, more related to error handling, would be great as well
    f) the jobs ARFC*, do they also use parallel processing?
       or is every ARFC* job responsible only for one single LUW?
       (note https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/366807 did not give a perfect answer)
    g) and how does the report RSARFCEX work compared to immediate execution?

    That's the problem, it won't.
    internal static string GetAvailabilityGroupFromConnection(SPDatabase db)
    if (!UsesAvailabilityConnection(db))
    return null;
    string dataSource = db.ConnectionString.DataSource;

    This piece of code looks at the SPDatabase's connection string (the SQL alias, for example) and executes a T-SQL query looking for that name within SQL Server. Since the SQL alias does not exist within the SQL Server's configuration, it will return a null
    value, and you won't be able to set up the AG config using the AG cmdlets.
    Also, since mobility exists by the very nature of using an AG Listener, using a SQL Alias is redundant.

  • Question about the String class

    Did I understood the JLS/Javadoc properly if I say that the String class has got an internal pool of String objects (therefore I expect this pool to be stored in some sort of static variable)?
    Looking at the intern() method in the String class, this is declared as native, which make me think the whole pooling thing is managed internally by the JVM.
    Does this mean that, if there is only a String class per JVM and String literals (or better Strings that are values of constant expressions) are pooled in the String class, the more String constants are around the bigger the String class object becomes?

    Did I understood the JLS/Javadoc properly if I say
    that the String class has got an internal pool of

    Looking at the intern() method in the String class,
    this is declared as native, which make me think the
    whole pooling thing is managed internally by the JVM.The intern() method is implemented in some programming language. If you happen to have a Java runtime where it is written as a native method, it is probably implemented in C or C++. Not a terribly important detail.
    Does this mean that, if there is only a String class
    per JVM and String literals (or better Strings that
    are values of constant expressions) are pooled in the
    String class, the more String constants are around
    the bigger the String class object becomes?The String.class object (of type java.lang.Class) as such doesn't "grow", but some memory structure somewhere will contain interned String literals. Probably a hash table of some sort. Yes indeed: if you have String literals in your program, those literals are stored in the computer's memory during runtime so that they can be accessed by the executable program code.

  • How does the SecurityManager authorize with JAAS?

    Hello,
    I'm using java 1.3 and JAAS, trying to write my own Permission for authorization. How does the SecurityManager know to authorize a method for a Subject? Does the method that I want protected have to explicitly call checkPermission()?
    The examples given are always for FilePermission. They show a program calling Subject.doAs() to perform an action as a particular Subject, and they imply that checkPermission() is called by the methods doing the file access.
    Thanks

    I think you
    a) create a specific permission class (such as a "canDoThisPermission(String targetMethod)" class)
    b) in your method check that the permission is granted by calling
    checkPermission(new CanDoThisPermission(<methname>))
    be sure your new permission class is being loaded from a trusted location (...lib/ext/... for eg.)
