How I Got iChat to Work

I finally got my iChat to work after a lot of research, especially from reading this forum. I want to thank Ralph John (Great website), Tony defcom1 (netgear suggestions), and RJ in WI (for testing my iChat connection). I want to share with the readers of this forum what I did so that it might help you. I basically had to implement practically every suggestion I found.
My equipment: mac mini with core duo and 1 GB of ram, OSX 10.4.7 connected wirelessly to a Netgear WRG614v6 router which is connected to a SBV5120 Motorola VOIP cable modem. My broadband speeds are 12Mbps download and 1.7 Mbps upload. I'm using iChat with AIM.
Quicktime preferences, streaming: changed speed to 1.5Mbps
iChat preferences, accounts, server settings: changed port from 5190 to 443. Note that you have to be logged out of AIM to change this. I did this before I learned about port forwarding so I could log into AIM.
System preferences, sharing, firewall: off. It also works with firewall on but with the correct ports opened. Click on New...select other, TCP port numbers: 5190, UDP port numbers: 5190, 5060, 5678, 16384-16403, and description: iChat. For the UDP ports, there needs to be a space after each comma.
Set up static IP addresses:
Step 1: Gather the information you'll need. You have to access your router directly via Safari by entering in the router's IP address, name and password. For the WGR614v6 it is http://192.168.1.1, name: admin, password: admin. Note: you can't change the name. The default password is admin, but you should change it.
Click Router status in the menu on the left side and write down the Domain Name server IP addresses. There are two.
Step 2: Back in my mac: System preferences, network: click Configure, click TCP/IP. For Configure IPv4, select Manually. IP Address: 192.168.1.22, Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0, Router: 192.168.1.1, DNS servers: The two you got in Step 1.
Note: I used 192.168.1.22 for my mac mini, 23 and 24 for two other PCs on the network and 100 for my network printer. Other numbers will also work.
Step 3: Back in the Netgear router settings: Click on LAN IP Settings: Uncheck Use Router as DHCP server.
At this point, check to see that you still have internet access. Otherwise, recheck your settings. If all else fails, press the reset button on your router to return to the factory settings.
Set up Port forwarding: Back in the Netgear Router settings: Click on Port Forwarding/Port Triggering.
1. Click on Add Custom Service. Service Name: iChat1, Service type: TCP/UDP, Starting port: 5190, Ending port: 5190, Server IP Address: 192.168.1.22. Note this is the same as the IP Address for your mac with iChat. Click Apply.
2. Click on Add Custom Service: Service Name: iChat2, Service type: UDP, Starting Address: 5060, Ending Address: 5060, IP Address: 192.168.1.22. Click Apply.
3. Click on Add Custom Service: Service Name: iChat3, Service type: UDP, Starting Address: 5678, Ending Address: 5678, IP Address: 192.168.1.22. Click Apply.
4. Click on Add Custom Service: Service Name: iChat4, Service type: UDP, Starting Address: 16384, Ending Address: 16403, IP Address: 192.168.1.22. Click Apply.
Adjust UPnP settings: In Netgear router settings: click on UPnP. Leave UPnP on. Change Advertisement period to 5 and Advertisement time to live to 2. Note: UPnP by itself did not work for me.
Logout off you router.
Start iChat. Make sure you can connect to the Apple testers, AIM appleu3test01, appleu3test02, appleu3test03.
Hope this works for you. I used to get -8 errors most every time. Now I am error free.

Hi Eric,
Welcome to the Apple Discussion Pages.
It does seem that iChat regards the fact that a PC with no Mic and no camera is not sending any data and regards this as a fault and ends the chats, normally, with the 10 sec error.
Glad you found a solution.

  • Never got iChat to work a single time in 4 years

I got my first mac in 2006 and always wanted to use iChat instead of Skype because of the feeling I get that Apple products must be easier to use than others'
But over the years, I've tried using iChat from around 10.4.5 up until 10.6.1 and never succeeded. I have had 2 macbooks in that time, different ISPs, different routers, DMZ, Google Talk, .Mac, AIM, MobileMe, I've tried it all. I tried dialling out from different countries on different continents. I never got it to work a single time while Skype hardly ever fails (except that AT&T seems to block Skype to landline calls). While I am an avid mac user and have converted about 10 of my friends to switch over to mac already, I must say that using Skype on Windows almost never fails to do what it's supposed to.
Before even querying about the technical problems, I think it's fairly reasonable to accept that this is beyond a technical issue if a software that is supposed to help sell mac hardware never worked on such a multitude of different circumstances.

I find it hard to believe you have gone 4 years without getting iChat to work.
I am no pro but I have never had a problem with my iChat.
Like my 2000 Powerbook and airport I have found that I could wireless network my house in 2000.
The same with iChat I have never had a problem and enjoyed the AV version right from day one.
I think that is 6 years ago now.
Ichatting with people in full screen video for last 6 years on the other side of the world. You can't beat that.
One early thing I discovered was adjustments or checks of the firewall tohave it allow iChat on certain ports. As for a comparison with Skype it is obvious you have not experienced iChatAV at all because you would find it hard to use Skype after the quality and size and clarity of iChat AV.
Sure there are many who know much more than me, here are some links for forums and knowledge base probably dated but just do a search to find more.

Don't worry about sounding like a MSkype advocate you don't know any different and don't worry about being critical or asking for help. Apple users are the most critical of their own product.
That means that if you find a problem don't put up with it for 4 years. The problem is bound to be well checked out in advanced and engaged in forums exploring the solutions.
So persist and enjoy the technology.

  • Got iChat to work, just one little problem...

After a long period of constantly getting the message: couldn't connect because 'user' didn't reply", I've managed to get iChat to work again - sort of. I set my outgoing port to 443 under Accounts, and in my router configurations. There is just a small problem, it seems I have to restart my router for it to work - every time.
If I restart my router, then iChat will gladly open a videochat afterwards, and it works every time I start a new chat, until I quit iChat. If I quit iChat and then start up iChat again, it won't work, and I'll get the same 'didn't reply' error message. If I restart the router again however, it will work again.
Just wondering if anyone knows why this is or what can be done about it.
iChat used to work a treat for me every time, until I installed a Tiger update, I believe it was 10.4.3 - then everything stopped working properly in iChat...
Would appreciate if there were any tech-savvy iChat users out there. I haven't been able to use iChat properly for months (without having to restart the router every tim- which I just figured out) Thanks!

It sounds as if you router isn't responding to UPnP commands correctly. Some routers have UPnP but are not certified.
You may want to consider setting a static IP address on your MAC, then port forwarding the correct ports in your router to you mac.
You can find step by step instructions for most routers at:

  • How I Got iTunes to Work After the Latest (So-Called) Update

Does anyone at (cr)Apple test updates before releasing them?!! My iTunes, as I see has happened with many, MANY others, would not open after downloading the latest update. Here's what I did to fix this issue:
    1. Go into Windows Control Panel, click on "Programs and Features", and find both Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Uninstall both of them (in my case, both applications were listed twice, with two different version numbers. Ihad to uninstall the newer one first, before I could uninstall the older version).
    2. Download the correct version of iTunes for your operating system (32-bit for 32-bit versions of Windows; 64-bit for 64-bit versions of Windows), and SAVE it (NOT run!) somewhere, like your desktop.
    3. Once downloaded, right-click on the file and use a program like 7-Zip to extract the files somewhere you'll be able to locate them (in my case, "ITunes64SetUp").
    4. Go into the folder and find the follwing two files or programs: "AppleApplicationSupport.msi" and "AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi" (or, I'm assuming if your system is 32-bit Windows, that last one would be called "AppleMobileDeviceSupport32.msi" or maybe just "AppleMobileDEviceSupport.msi).
    5. Double-click each one and that will launch the install programs. Follow the prompts and install both.
    6. After that, your iTunes should work correctly. Mine did!
    Good luck!
This is ridiculous that we have to do this - the average computer user would have NO idea how to fix this!

    Quit iTunes.
Copy the iTunes Folder to the D drive, leave a copy on the C drive.
Then open the XML file in the C drive in the iTunes folder with a Text editor with "Find and Replace" ability.
Correct all the partial pathnames so it matches the new location where the iTunes Folder is now.
    Example:
    Find: C:\Windows\Users\Johnny\Music\iTunesFolder...   to
    Replace: D\\Music\iTunesFolder....
Quit iTunes and transfer all the folders out of the iTunes Folder on C except the two single files, including the XML you edited.
Start iTunes and click on one song you have but dislike, if it plays your fine. Leave the C/iTunes folders alone to make sure it works for all your content, then finally back it up or delete it to make room on C. Do a Windows defrag on C for increased performance.
If you get a Explanation Point in iTunes, it didn't find the file and you didn't correct the pathnames correctly..

  • Killing me softly... or how I got iWeb to work

    iWeb v 1.1 didn't work. iWeb v 1.1.1 still didn't work.
I decided I had nothing to lose so I deleted my websites and then recreated the primary site. It published.
Now it works perfectly, comments and searching and all that jazz. It is a shame that I had to delete my site and start again, but if you are having difficulty with iWeb v 1.1.1 I would advise recreating the site with the new templates. Hopefully it will work for you to.

Hi Guys I am having problems in getting the work flow with color to work and keep asking question on how to fix it , so i am thinking is there any body who would like to share how they got color to work and what setting you use, what formats ect. so we could get a list of working mac that every body can see. so please if you are up and running and your wrok flow works please tell me and all the other just how you have done it
    Thanks

    Hi Trevor,
    welcome here!
Maybe your message tells us more about some frustrations you have been experiencing rather than the actual technical glithces you have encountered.
Therefore, I start with a very symple reply.
When I need Color to grade my video (usually DVCPRO HD) I simply go to file>send to>Color.
I colour grade, render and send it back to FCP.
    Never had problems with that.
To use Color you may need (recommendable) dual core intel processor or higher, 4GB RAM or higher, X1900 graphics card, High Def. external monitor. An external or internal drive capable to let you edit on the fly.
I noticed that you are using Leopard.
Issues related to the new OS with FCPstudio2 are quite common and we are all taking notice of it.
Leopard was not specifically designed for FCP users so those and other issues were more or less predictable.
    Hope this helps!

  • Here is how I got Outlook and Q10 to sync

This isn't overly technical so work with me. The problem is images. If you have images (pictures) associated with contacts it will fail. In my case here is how I got it to work and I had 925 contacts.
    1) in Oultook delete all images associated with each contact you might have
    2) I then did exactly the same thing in by Berry contacts where I had associated images with friends or contacts.
    3) deleted Faceboook and LinkedIn and Twitter apps.. . all of these apps try to link to your contacts and will import pictures which will kill the sync
    4) deleted ALL my contacts from my Berry and reimported them. one way sync from Outlook.
    5) scrolled through my entire contact list and where ever some picture had magically re-appeared, opened the contact, hit the 3 little dots and clicked on links and unlinked what ever the app was that was bringing in the picture. BBM llinks can exist and they don't mess you up withtheir pictures and they won't sync to Outlook anyway
also under settings I deleted all accounts except for my core account asscoiated with my contacts. This is the one that was my email account.. You can keep your BBM contacts.
Its a little harsh but I use my Berry for work so be deleting all the fluff such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter I was able to get it to sync and actually sync within a minute. If you need Facebook to survive then I guess you will have to get an iPhone.
I am sure there is a way that is more sophisticated than the above that allows you access to Facebook but after 5 months of whining and cursing that my contacts and calendar were a mess I decided to actually pay to talk to Blackberry and have one of their people help me fix it
    Good Luck

The full res images made on the 1020 can only be taken off the phone through a USB connection with a PC. The OS itself is only aware of the 5MPx image.

How do I get iChat 3 working ? Upgrade hints:FAQ
    Trouble Shooting Revisited
Ok We will start with loading Tiger and iChat version 3.0
    From Panther
There are or were serveral Add-ons and applications avaiblable to Panther users of iChat that are not compatible with iChat 3.
These following need to be deleted.
iCAR - An Add-on that posts an Auto response Away message (produces a 1 fps result in a Video chat)
Virex for Panther - An Anti Virus app avialable to @mac account users (Produces the 1 fsp problem)
iChatUSBCam for Panther/iChat2.x - A Add-on utility for using iSight or USB cam with iChat2.x (Incompatible with Tiger/iChat 3)
iProfile - An Add-on for producing a profile on the AIM server that ichat 2.x could not do (not proven to be a problem but now not needed).
A clean install of Tiger (not Archive and Install) produces the best results.
But any install should also check these Tiger settings.
First, UPGRADE to 10.4.3 as this gets past many Connection issues that became apparent with the basic Tiger (10.4) and iChat 3.0 It updates iChat to version 3.1
    Check Settings
Don't be complacent that you have not set anything different.
There are several new things in Tiger that may trip you up.
    These are worth looking at:
Mac Firewall. Now includes the ability to Block all UDP traffic in the Advanced button (System Preferences > Sharing >Firewall tab then the Advanced Button).
Also can now open UDP protocol for ports where as the Panther one only did TCP (Check any old Panther settings you Added to the presets).
    The ports should be:
    TCP -5190
    UDP -5060, 5190, 5678, 16384-16403
There are more ports for Bonjour 5297, 5298, 5353 UDP and 5298 TCP and Jabber, 5220, 5222, 5223 on TCP)
    (Table View see 7th Sept)
QuickTime. This has a change in the name of the Connection Speed tab to Streaming (System Preferences > QuickTime) Check this is set to be equal to your connection speed (the download one if this is faster). See Apple Doc 301641 Dated 9th November 2005.
Date & Time. Not conclusively involved but worth eliminating. Set a Network Server and the correct Time Zone.
Apple Remote Desktop. If this is active in System Preferences > Sharing > Services tab it causes problems for iChat.
Next, test the actual speed you are getting from your ISP.
    http://www.dslreports.com/stest
There is a table here of the speeds you need:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301050
The one you get linked to in the Help menu is wrong.
    Other Known Problems
There are several other applications that iChat 3 does not seem to like.
folding@home This is a application that uses spare processor time to help find protein chains for a University.
PostgreSQL This is a data base application that can be reset to allow more processor time for iChat. See here http://www.murraywilliams.com/blog/archives/000046.html
Lotus Notes Some people have reported problems with this.
Make sure any Add-on Video cards or input PCI cards have up to date Firmware
IF you are still having problems I would do Routine Maintenance Tasks as laid out here.
Lastly, some routers/modems are SIP aware and give different results in iChat 3 compared to iChat 2.
This is due to the Operating System changing (like a new computer connecting to the modem) rather than iChat.
See My web pages: page4 at the SIP Text in a Box section.
Also for the above try some housekeeping particularly if you do not keep your Computer on 24/7 Gulliver, "kmosx3: Mac OS X 10.3/10.4: System maintenance"
    Ralph

i think apple needs to keep up with the jones here, so far i read at LOGIC PRO FORUMS many saying cubase and pro tools left logic in the dust, 1 year ago already, sad, but true
in anycase, trye starting one app before the other to see which combination works., other wise i think more apps will fall out of sync with old logic pro

  • How I got my L7780 Direct Digital Filing to work on MacBook Leopard 10.5.6

My situation was that I had miraculously been able to get Direct Digital Filing working once, but couldn't remember the exact steps I made to get it to work. I then had to clean reinstall my MacBook. And even when I put the exact path name that I had used originally in the web server for the printer (EWS?) and had set the network settings the same way I had originally. I was unable to get DDF to work.
I was able to set up the L7780 wirelessly. I was able to print and scan from my MacBook wirelessly. BUT I couldn't get Direct Digital Filing to work.
Neither Technical Support nor internet forums helped me entirely. I just took good tips here and there and finally got it all working together. Had a nightmare of a time figuring it. I called HP Tech Support and they told me I had setup everything on the L7780 correctly...only it just wouldn't working. Tech Support didn't offer to send me a new printer, but only suggested that I could do without Direct Digital Filing???
    What I did...
Uninstall everything, the HP software from laptop. Making sure that all traces of the printer, or its drivers were off computer. Reset Network settings to default on printer. Reset factory defaults under Tools Menu on printer. Reset my wireless router.
    1. I turned the router on
    2. I turned the printer on (at this point, it is not connected to the network at all, either ethernet wire, or wireless, it has no IP address)
    3. I turned my MacBook on
    4. Connected my MacBook to L7780
    5. Installed the Printer software that I downloaded from HP website on MacBook. (Installed L7780 as USB)
    6. Tested the printing, and the scanning from my MacBook to make sure it works.
    7. Downloaded the Software Update from Apple that always comes up to update the HP driver after installation.
    Then for Direct Digital Filing,
    8. From the L7780 I selected the Setup Wireless Network Wizard or something like that. After that, the printer was connected to my network, and had an IP address.
    9. (Unable to get DDF working on my MacBook, I made a last ditch effort to see if it worked on my Windows Vista Laptop that had worked before as well) I turned on my Windows Vista Laptop, opened up Command, and pinged the IP of the printer. It worked.
    10. I created a folder and configured it to share for the printer. After configuring it. It will tell you the Address that you use to type into the Direct Digital Filing speed dial path to the folder. I did that. I tried DDF to the Windows Vista folder and it worked on my Vista laptop. Encouraged...
    11. I then tried it on my MacBook. I got into Terminal. I pinged the IP of the L7780. Strangely, I got an endless ping result list, it wouldn't stop. You have to press CTRL+C to stop it.
    12. Then I created a folder in root directory of my MacBook Hard Drive. "Scan." Went into Systems Preferences. Went into the Sharing Tab. Clicked the + sign to add a shared folder. Selected the new "Scan" folder. Made sure the Option was for SMB sharing (Must type in user ID & password). Made sure "File Sharing" was selected.
    Voila it finally worked!!!!
    NOTE:
In the EWS? (web embedded print server by typing in the IP of the printer in your web browser)the Path is as follows: \\HARDDISK\Scan
type in user name & password
leave PIN blank, or erase it if there is anything there
(If you have it in your Documents folder, it would look something like this... \\HARDDISK\Users\Username\Documents\Scan ..... However, becareful in the EWS if your path name is too long, you can't type in the entire path .... ALSO the original time that it was working (I don't know how)... I had my path as \\192.168.1.5\Username\Documents\Scan .... For some reason I was able to use my IP address of my MacBook, and then skip to my User name without the "Users" path before it .... However, since I reinstalled my MacBook, that address no longer worked for some reason.)
    NOTE:
Either After I got it working on my Windows Vista Laptop, or after pinging the printer from my MacBook. I noticed a strange change in my Networks in the System Preferences. There was a new Location ncamed "hp nct temp set" instead of the original "Automatic" location that was there before. On the left, all "Airport" icons, "Connected" & full signals, instead of a variety of icons, Bluetooth, Airport, Ethernet, etc that the original Automatic location had. Either way, it seems to be making the Direct Digital Filing working, so I won't ask why. Further details in "Advanced" showed nothing different other than under "Airport" "Preferred Networks:" there was an additional Network Name "hpsetup" other than my home Wireless network. All other settings seem to be the same.
    SUMMARY:
(Like I said, I'm not sure if Direct Digital Filing started working on my Macbook running Leopard because I got it to work on my Windows computer first, or because I used Terminal to ping the printer.)
    but...
    1. Setup L7780 wirelessly by making sure your Wireless network is working, and then turning on the printer, and then select "Wireless Setup Wizard" under Network on printer. It will give you a list of wireless networks from which you choose yours, and then type in the security password. After that is complete and it says your printer is now connected to the network, select display wireless network settings to make sure the L7780 has an IP address.
    2. On your Mac, open up Terminal and ping the IP of L7780. CTRL+C to stop it from pinging if it doesn't stop automatically
    3. Create and share folders on your Mac (making sure it's SMB with user id and password, and that the path to the folder isn't too long)
    3. Then setup Direct Digital Filing speed dials in the EWS by typing in the printer IP address in your web browser and going on the "Settings" tab.
    4. Test it from the L7780 by pushing the Direct Digital Filing button under Scan!
I wrote this out for all those people that must be having a hard time with this as I had myself, and not getting any help from the internet or from Technical Support. I hope I figured it out for most of us.

I found this post and the HP instructions for setting up digital filing to be extremely frustrating, because nothing worked -- UNTIL I tried shutting down my Mac and rebooting after entering the settings (a simple restart would probably have done as well). Digital Filing then immediately worked like a charm. For the benefit of others like me who find abstract paths useless, here is the specific path setting that works on my Mac (you will of course have to use a different path on your Mac, but this will give you a real-world example of a path that works) -- this is on an HP Officejet Pro L7780:

    In abstract terms, this is:
\\<computer name from Sharing pane of System Preferences>\<short user name>\<folder named Public in my user domain, which comes already set up for sharing when you install Mac OS X>.
    I hope this helps somebody.

  • Kichat: How do I get iChat 3 working ?

    How do I get iChat 3 working ? - Upgrade hints:FAQ
    Trouble Shooting
This Post deals with Updating iChat 2 in Panther to iChat 3 in Tiger
NOTE:- What is said here was found out at the time Tiger was released and the info may not be transferable to any other OS Upgrade such as Tiger to Leopard
Ok We will start with loading Tiger and iChat version 3.0
    From Panther
There are or were several Add-ons and applications available to Panther users of iChat that are not compatible with iChat 3.
These following need to be deleted. I am not supplying links here as you don't need them.
iCAR - An Add-on that posts an Auto response Away message (produces a 1 fps result in a Video chat)
First, UPDATE to 10.4.3 as this gets past many Connection issues that became apparent with the basic Tiger (10.4) and iChat 3.0 It updates iChat to version 3.1 (it also mentions the Virex issue)
See this Apple Doc Formerly Article: 93208.
That info coverts into a table like this
QuickTime. This has a change in the name of the Connection Speed tab to Streaming (System Preferences > QuickTime) Check this is set to be equal to your connection speed (the download one if this is faster - *Preferably 1.5Mbps* ). See Apple Doc 301641 Dated 9th November 2005.
Date & Time. Not conclusively involved but worth eliminating. Set a Network Server and the correct Time Zone.
Also check it matches any similar setting in your Modem and router
Apple Remote Desktop. If this is active in System Preferences > Sharing > Services tab it causes problems for iChat.
Next, test the actual speed you are getting from your ISP.
http://www.dslreports.com/stest A range of Speed Test sites can be found here
There is a table here of the speeds you need:
iChat 3/Tiger (OS 10.4) Speed requirements
The one you get linked to in the Help menu is wrong.
    Other Known Problems
There are several other applications that iChat 3 does not seem to like.
folding@home This is a application that uses spare processor time to help find protein chains for a University.
PostgreSQL This is a data base application that can be reset to allow more processor time for iChat. See here http://www.murraywilliams.com/blog/archives/000046.html
Lotus Notes Some people have reported problems with this.
Make sure any Add-on Video cards or input PCI cards have up to date Firmware
IF you are still having problems I would do Gulliver's Routine Maintenance Tasks as laid out here.
Lastly, some routers/modems are SIP aware and give different results in iChat 3 compared to iChat 2.
This is due to the Operating System changing (like a new computer connecting to the modem) rather than iChat.
See My web pages: page4 at the SIP Text in a Box section. This has moved on somewhat since Tiger came out with Thomson-Alcatel brining out newer firmware version that are mentioned later in that section.
Also for the above try some housekeeping particularly if you do not keep your Computer on 24/7 Gulliver's, "kmosx3: Mac OS X 10.3/10.4: System maintenance"

i think apple needs to keep up with the jones here, so far i read at LOGIC PRO FORUMS many saying cubase and pro tools left logic in the dust, 1 year ago already, sad, but true
in anycase, trye starting one app before the other to see which combination works., other wise i think more apps will fall out of sync with old logic pro

i just got the iphone 4s and i cant figure out how to get siri to work it seems to be the old voice command. HELP!

Did you enable Siri in settings?
    Settings > General > Siri > ON
If Siri is off, all you get when pressing the home button for 1 second is the old Voice Control.

  • How I got my rear speakers to work (logitech z 5500 5.1)

Instead of connecting the black cable into the black slot of my speaker system, I put it in the orange slot and the orange plug in the black slot. I did the same to my sound card, black slot in line 3(center/sub) instead of line 2(rear left, rear right) and orange in line 2. I was amazed that this got it to work. I was on the verge on posting some long ass post saying how i tried everything, but i decided to try something stupid and switch a few plugs that I wasnt supposed to switch. I basically got it working by accident. Im pretty happy

When the Toslink to mini-jack digital cable arrives you would set up the 5.1 audio to the system through Audio MIDI Setup; Apps>Utilities>Audio MIDI Setup.
    From the Audio MIDI Setup Help menu;
    Configuring speakers for multichannel output
If you have a multichannel audio output system, you can select the speaker used to play each channel.
You must be using an audio output system that provides more than two channels of audio output.
Before you start, be sure you have connected the audio devices to your computer, turned them on, if necessary, and installed any software required by the manufacturer.
    1. Open Audio MIDI Setup and click Audio Devices.
    2. Choose the audio output device from the Properties For pop-up menu and click Configure Speakers.
    3. If you are using an interleaved device with more than one audio stream, you can choose the audio streams you want to use with your speaker configuration.
    4. If the stream you select provides enough channels for the speakers you are configuring, you cannot select additional streams.
    5. Choose the type of output you want to set up from the pop-up menu.
    6. For each speaker in the configuration, choose a channel from the pop-up menu below the speaker.
    7. To test the configuration and speaker, click the speaker.
    8. When you're ready, click OK.
If the speaker doesn't make any sound, make sure it is connected to your audio device correctly and the audio output is not muted.
