I updated my iPhone 3GS to iOS 5 and i got the setup screen for the language and region and eventually i can't activate the iPhone
as the iTunes says " there is no sim card installed in the iphone that you are attempting to activate "
However the iPhone is already unlocked and i've been using it with 4.3.3 and also 4.3.5 and it was absolutely fine.
Now i keep rebooting it and removing the sim card (which is working on another handset alreay) and it says the same msg
PLEASE HELP !!First off, if you're using stuff like Redsnow and Ultrasnow you have violated any kind of warranty you had. This is no longer Apple's problem so look for help elsewhere. Second, you should have known that if you try to upgrade an illegally jailbroken or unlocked phone with the stock apple update, you would lose both the unlock and jailbreak. Obviously you're baseband is messed up and if you flashed it with the iPad 6.15 baseband you're out of luck ever trying to update the iOS version legitimately since you can't undue a baseband flash. You should have known that before you started messing with it. So either get a legit contract with AT&T, sprint or Verizon or try to salvage your mess through a jailbreaking/unlocking forum. You won't get any help here my friend.

Not a good sign. Try forcing the phone into recovery mode & restoring it. If this fails, make an appointment at an Apple store:
Turn your phone off. Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. Did you already try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data by resetting.
If this did not work, and to rule out a software issue, setting it up as new device would be the next step:

If still no luck, this might be a hardware problem and the phone has to be checked by an Authorized Apple Service Provider or Apple:

I believe you will find you can again sync Photos if you delete the "iPod Photo Cache", but predict that any subsequent attempt will fail. In my case, the enxt sync removes all the photos again - I've seen other reports of error messages upon sync. Mine just fails silently. :-) -

Itunes content is not incliuded in the backup that itunes performs.
Audiobooks are not part of icloud and cannot be redownloaded.
You can try contacting itunes support and asking for an exception. -

At last, the BEST solution!
In addition to my last post, here is the solution for fixing this problem without syncing your contacts with icloud.
It takes about 2 minutes and permanently solves the problem so you can start adding and editing your contacts again on IOS 5.1.1!
Basically you just need to follow these steps from the Settings page:
Enable Airplane Mode
Go to iCloud settings
Turn on Contacts
Agree to 'Merge Contact'
Wait for pop up to confim iCloud contacts are on
Turn off Contacts
Confirm that you want to Keep your Contact on the iPhone
Wait for pop up to confim iCloud contacts are off
Disable Airplane Mode
Airplane Mode temporarily blocks all phone signal/data to stop your contacts merging with icloud.

i have an activation problem with my iphone 3gs. i updated the software to io6 using itunes but now the phone will not complete activation because it keeps saydin the activation server is not available and to re try later. ive been trying for 6 hours but it still wont activate. if i try using itunes then it sayd no sim inserted when there is one inserted, what can i do?
You are right, but how could i send it to Apple? when the phone company first replaced my iphone they had in stock alots of iphones and they just sent mine back to Apple and gave me a new one, so all i did is to give them my phone, but now how could i sent it to Apple? and i cant send it by myself, and the store wont do that, its a lost for them.. so sending it to Apple wasnt an option from the begining.
and for the record, i dont think the store where i bought it is an authorized shop.. its just a store who boughts phone's from Apple in a low price and sells it in much more money.. -

We've an article that provides the following troubleshooting steps that may help stabilize your iPhone.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
