How much can 320 gb hard drive hold? Do you recommend it for a college student?
I need to know whether to go with the 320 gb hard drive or add the 500 gb hard drive instead.
It can hold 320GB or 320,000MB.
An MP3 say is about 5-10MB, a high definition movie is say 1-3GB.
I would suggest getting the 500GB. You ALWAYS need more room. Trust me, you will fill it.

The machine should only make noise if the Superdrive is being used or the CPU's heavily used, going by my Early 2011 17".

It's possible it wasn't installed correctly and/or the case is slightly off so it's resonating the hard drive vibrations.
Make sure you have a internet connection (don't move) and reboot the machine holding the d key down like forever and Hardware Test will run.
Backup your data off the machine, if the hard drive dies under 1 year or three years with Applecare, then go get a new one. else you can replace it yourself with a better one and not void your warranty if you don't break anything doing so. Add more RAM while your at it.

As you know Mac's are made by hand by young Chinese women working 12 hour shifts performing the same function every 7 seconds for only $1.20 a hour. They live 7 to a box room and have to pay 70¢ a meal.
All in all I would say they are very tired, and it's possilbe a few defects made it to your machine. -

External Hard Drive -- What do you recommend plase
I use super duper and do not have the backup drive on except when doing a backup. I need a capacity in the 750 to 1 TB size.
When I look at Amazon or other ratings they are all over the place. One size is good and another is bad for the same manufacture.
Can anyone please recommend a make or manufacture for me to consider. I have used Maxtor for years with pretty good results.I bought OWC's FW hard drive encloser. You can put in your own drive(s) (I bought Seagate drives from OWC) depending on whether you want a single drive backup, dual ot RAID. I bought the OWC Mercury Elite...great encloser rated top in all my Mac magazines. What's nice about these is, if the drive goes bad you can replace it yourself and not have to get rid of the whole unit (like what happened to my Western Digital FW Ext. drive last time!). OWC's enclosers have Oxford chipsets which are totally Mac friendly. They also work for Windows machines. OWC also backs up their products...no arguing involved.

To transfer your current hard drive I like the free application SuperDuper. It makes a bootable copy of everything on your hard drive http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html You'll need a cheap SATA external hard drive case. Put the new drive in the case then format and partition the new drive and clone your old drive to the new one. Check that it's set up right by booting up from the external drive. Then replace your old hard drive with the new one and put your old one in the external case.

How much can the iPod Touch really hold?
Suddenly my 16GB iPod touch could hold 3000 of my photos, 40 videos and 4500 of my songs. But the album artwork was all wrong so I made the stupid decision of restoring my iPod.
Now I can only fit 2500 photos, home videos which are pretty weak on the MB and I had to compromise the 4500 songs to 4055.
What happened?yeah it seems that the first restore left some fragmented files or somthing on your touch takin up some space. Another restore couldnt hurt and if it leaves more unuseable space you should look into a replacement cause it looks like a bug.

Disk utility will not boot using COMMAND R. It won't give me the 'ERASE' option when I open Disk Utility. How do I wipe my hard drive?
If you're truly running 10.6.8, there is no Recovery partition - that didn't come along until 10.7x.
You'll need to use the set of gray discs that originally shipped with your model. If you don't have them, you can always get your serial number from the bottom of the casing and call Apple to get a set of replacement discs. These will run you about $20 + shipping & taxes. Once you have the discs, boot from Disk One and use Disk Utility to erase your HD and then reinstall whichever version of OS X that shipped with your model. No way around of getting the discs.

Make sure the preference in Finder allow it to show network drives.
This might be turned off.
Have you setup Time Machine.. Time Machine can usually find the TC. If it fails then you need to redo the setup of the TC.
Use all short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Manually mount the TC hard disk from finder.. go .. connect to server.
Type in the name.
AFP://TCname (in mavericks you will need to add the domain.. so TCname.local) TCname is of course replaced with your actual TCname. -
My external hard drive holding half my iMovie events and projects has become corrupted. I have now downloaded all the same files (from a backup in the cloud) to another hard drive - but iMovie is not "seeing" those events or movies in that external hard drive. Q1 Is there a way of rectifying that? (I.e. telling iMovie to point to the relevant folders or files on the new external hard drive)
Q2 I have a TimeMachine backup of the corrupted drive in another drive which i keep elsewhere. Is it worth me attempting to restore from that backup? And if so where can I restore to (as the original external drive is corrupted) and how do i go about that restore process so that the events and projects re-appear?

(I thought i would check re Q2 before embarking on the wrong method!)When I right click on an image, then went to Go to Folder in Library, it pulls up the new external hard drive where I made the new link. When I try to work on the photos, the image still says file image is offline or missing. When I right click on the image to Show in Finder, it says the image could not be used because the original file could not be found. I eventually did click on their locate and found the image. When I linked those two together, a few minutes later ALL the "?" went missing and now IT WORKS!!!!
That was weird!
