How to add/ remove softwares in mac

Hi
If any one of you can help me, In adding or removing the softwares in Mac os X. And also, help me about the .dmg / .bin formats.
Kindly fwd it to [email protected]
Thanks in advance!!

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
DMG files are disk image file formats which when opened open a virtual floppy disk on your desktop which can then have files either dragged to the Applications folder if they are applications, or installers run direct from the DMG to the Applications folder. Removing applications generally either is dragging them to the trash, or running a provided uninstaller with the program. Some programs may dump preferences in the system which may confuse different version installers of the same program if you decide to reinstall them later. This varies by program.
.bin files are simply files that are stored in binary format on archive sites for easier transfer to your machine.

  • Add/Remove Software not working in Oracle EL5 x86

I installed the new Oracle EL5 version as a test on a Virtual Machine, after some playing around I got that to work ok. I had some video issues during the install so I missed the package selection section completely. After getting things up and running I tried to go into Add/Remove Software to change the package selection, but the list in the Browse tab is empty, the Search Tab only works on packages I ALREADY have installed, and the list tab only lists the packages that are currently installed. In Oracle EL4 I could go back and change package selections from the list. How do I do the same thing in EL5? I do not know the exact package versions. I have registered the system with ULN (Network license) and run updates..
    Thanks

    Jim,
It's probably best to file a service request via Metalink on this issue.

  • Add/Remove Software doesn't work on Oracle EL5 x86-64

The answer I need is "How can I either get this to work or install software that I didn't install at original install time by some other means" Note:I know how to use rmp -i but knowing the name of the actual rpm is a bit tricky and would prefer to have something like this working. For instance I have a program that is looking for the include files for the kernel that is running but unfortunately these files do not appear to be on disk anywhere. I would like to therefore load the source for this kernel but do not know the exact name that was used for that rpm.
    Let me know. Thanks
    Details of the error:
Under the Applications menu in Gnome you can find "Add/Remove Software" I tried to use it to add some software and I get the following error "Unable to retrieve software information" under details it says "Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: update" (I would expect this to work ...wouldn't you if it is on the list of items to chose from the "Applications" menu.) I ran /usr/bin/pirut -h from the command line and it revealed that it uses /etc/yum.conf. that took me to check ULN-Base.repo file under /etc/yum.repos.d which contains the following:

As of now, there are no yum repository for Enterprise Linux. But you can use up2date to install other packakges if you have registed with ULN.

  • How di i remove my e-mac hard drive?

My e-mac is inoperable: I can transfer files to my i-mac by putting the e-mac hard drive into a USB case. How do I remove the e-mac hard drive?

    dave the bookman,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Taner Sezer has a valid warning about the power switch when disassembling eMacs; there are also warnings not to come anywhere near the CRT assembly (especially the CRT yoke) without using a static discharge tool to disperse the dangerous voltage retained by the eMac even after extended time turned off. Bearing that in mind, you can Google "Apple eMac Upgrade Guide" and look for www.lbodnar.dsl.pipex.com in the results.
One suggestion/warning: external USB hard drives (at least on PPC Macs) are known to be flakey and generally require third-party drivers with less-than-steller track records. A Firewire enclosure is more reliable; a dual Fireire/USB 2.0 enclosure, while costing more, will let you use the hard drive on multiple platforms (including Windows with the addition of software like MacDrive.

how to uninstall a software in mac os x 10.8

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
In Mac OS X, it's easy to uninstall apps. Most of the apps can be uninstalled just dragging them to the Trash. However, some apps come with an uninstaller, and in this case, you have to use the uninstaller. That's because some apps have got files in other folders, and if you just drag the app to the Trash, these files will stay there and they will take space

  • How to add multiple desktop on mac os x?

On my previous version of Mac OS X I was able to add as much desktops I want by just going into upper right corner with my pointer and clickin on the sign +. Now, after replacing my SSD and installing new OS I don't have that option. Does anyone knows how to add desktops on Mac OS 10.7.5? Thank you

Mission Control – Work in Multiple Spaces
If you want to keep the desktops in a specific order, go to System Preferences/Mission Control and uncheck the box " Automatically rearrange spaces based on most recent use." You can also select the box below that so if you open an application, you'll be taken to that space.
If you want to cut down the number of desktops, there is also an option to remove the Dashboard as a desktop and have it work like it did in Snow Leopard. That can be set in System Preferences/Mission Control by deselecting Show Dashboard as a  space. You can access the Dashboard by clicking on the Dashboard icon in the dock or using the FN 12 key.

  • How do i remove "network" from Mac Name Devices?

Im currently setting up an apple network to work with my Active Directory and so far so good. I have Active Directory authenticating users and open directory restricting access to features. In Finder i have been able to create a policy to remove the objects from the side panel e.g shared, places and devices. My problem is i am unable to remove "network" from clicking "mac name". The reason for me doing this is because it opens a massive security hole in my network. When i map/mount a windows directory e.g The users home directory, it then displays every share on that server apart from the hidden shares when you go to network>servername. Its not possible to hide all the shares because they are needed by windows e.g Netlogon and SYSVOL. So my question is how can i remove or can i remove Network
    Thanks

But they can also be accessed by Windows, also when they are NOT visible. So just by hiding the folder, you don't add any security. If it had to be accessed there is always a way to without seeing the symbol. Set up ACL permissions for the shares so users can only access data they are authorized to.

  • How do you remove software installations???

    Hello.
I am coming from the PC world. How do you UNinstall software on a MAC? There's no uninstall program. How do you make sure that all associated files and 'trash' are removed with the software? Is there a registry to manipulate? I've used Linux, and I don't see a package manager that takes care of the housekeeping. Anyway, you get the idea.
    Informaion greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,

Powermac G5 'Quad'   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   'Tiger'

Hello, welcome to the Mac world.
Generally speaking, all you need to do to uninstall a program is drag it to the trash and empty it. If the program is in it's own folder, like Photoshop for example, then you can trash the whole folder and its related files. Some programs may leave behind small settings files that hold your Preferences but they are small and it doesn't hurt to leave them. Preferences and other settings are kept in either the Preferences or Application Support folders - they are located in either the Library folder or youruser/Library folder.
Usually the case is this - if you install a program by manually copying it to the Applications folder, then all you have to do is drag it out to deinstall. If installing requires the use of an installer program, then try running the installer again to see if it offers an uninstall feature.
There is no registry to muddle with - that's a Windows-only "feature".

  • How to delete/remove DigiNotar in Mac OS X 10.5.8's Safari?

    Hello.
I noticed Apple never released an update to delete/remove DigiNotar in Mac OS X 10.5.8 since I have all updates. I was able to tell Keychain to untrust it from http://fairerplatform.com/2011/09/how-to-disable-diginotar-ssl-certificate/artic le, but it won't let me delete it. Mac OS X just beeps at me when I hit delete key on this Intel MacBook Pro (from October 2008). I tried dragging it to the trash can, but that didn't do anything. Am I missing something? I did unlock this Keychain screen and was able to untrust.
    Thank you in advance.

Specifically the 'can't delete' problem you asked about seems similar on Snow here & yet choosing the items via search does enable the Edit-Delete menu command.
Perfect. Search to find two hits and then deleting them (right click and then delete option for me) worked! Weird design!
Even more weird, http://fairerplatform.com/2011/09/how-to-disable-diginotar-ssl-certificate/artic le is gone! I wanted to read its instructions on how to test it.

  • How to reliably remove Find My Mac from an old machine? (Lion and later)

    Hi,
My company buys old Macs and resells them. Our current process involves wiping the disk using Disk Utility and reinstalling the OS via NetInstall. Recently we've discovered that this process does not remove old Find My Mac controls from previous owners.
From some initial experimenting, my current hypothesis is that a machine's Find My Mac data is stored in the EFI partition, which is not wiped by Disk Utility. (I haven't even figured out how to wipe it with diskutil -- I've only managed to "re-virginize" the drive completely using gparted in Linux.)
Does anybody have any experience with this and the most streamlined way to deal with removing Find My Mac controls from a 10.7.2+ machine? I realize that this may be something Apple's not hugely willing to talk about publicly as the information could be used for nefarious purposes. In our case, it's completely legal resale.
    Thanks!

  • SCCM 2012 R2 - How to add second Software Distribution?

I already have a Primary site server setup so I added another site system server so I could add the Distrubution Point to a remote 2012 R2 server (hope that was correct?)
Now I would like to also add the Software Distribution role to that secondary server. I'd like the types (security, optional, etc...), of software updates pulled from my primary site, but want the actually updates pulled from Microsoft. To have that setup
do I install the WSUS role on my secondary site server and then add the Software Update role?

    Hi,
WSUS when used in SCCM as a SUP is only used for the clients to download the information about which updates exist, the actual updates are downloaded from the assigned DP. There is no way to configure a client to download security updates from SCCM and the
    rest from Internet.
Yes, you did correct, it is not a Secondary site though it is a Site System for your Primary site if that is the same site server you are refereing to later.
The data actually downloaded by the clients from the SUP is not that much so it is normally no ide to install a new SUP.
