How to approach a Macbook pro without screen

I own a Macbook pro early 2008 with the well known Nvdia issue (black screen). Apple didn't want to repair it under the special program (Apple user since early 90's) so I went to a specialized company to reball the chip. Worked very well but not for a long time. But the problem came back, so again I have the black screen. I don't want to spent any money anymore on this terrible (but very expensive) product (and even any more on any Apple product).
The Mac does start up and I can see it in my home network. But how to retrieve the data without a screen. I didn't switch on the possibility for sharing so that's no option. What are the possibilities to retrieve data from the hard disk.

Two ways.
1) If you can access it from your network just copy the data over to one of your other computer hard drives. That is if you ever setup sharing and can get to that data over the network.
2) Take the drive out and connect it to another Apple computer, or a Windows computer that has a special program installed to read Mac formatted drives, and copy the data over. you will need a SATA to USB adapter or enclosure to do that. I suggest the adapter as they are more flexable for other things.
You can also use that hard drive in another system if you chose to. That is after you copy your data off it. All you have to do is format it for Windows.

  • How To Back up Macbook Pro without External Hard Drive...

how do I back up my Macbook Pro mid 2012 model on 10.9.2 OSX, without an external hard drive ? Can I use Google Drive or Dropbox ?

Google Drive and Dropbox work for backing up certain files, but not your entire user directory/hard drive. There are online services that are designed for that specifically, Carbonite and CrashPlan are two that are popular.

If you are entitled to download Mountain Lion, because you have paid for it or it was on your computer when you bought it from Apple, you can place it on a flash drive.

And the cost, from the App store when you purchase for the first time, is US$20.00 (twenty).

  • How do I  connect MacBook Pro without mini-display port to my HDMI TV?

I have a MacBook Pro computer purchased around 2008. I want to connect it to my Panasonic HDMI TV; however, this MacBook Pro doesn't have a mini-display port. Is there a work around? I would like audio & video.
Thanks so much in advance for any help.

You will need a [DVI-to-HDMI adapter|http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=104&cp_id=10419&cs_id=1041902&pid=2029&seq=1&format=2], a standard HDMI cable to connect the adapter to your TV set, and an audio cable with a headphone plug on one end to connect to your MBP's headphone port and two RCA plugs on the other to connect your your TV's audio inputs. I know of no way you can get audio into the HDMI cable.

Use your backup drive instead. No backup drive, then get a monitor and connect it to your computer. Or take the whole shebang to the Apple Store for help with the transfer. Or you can remove the drive from the old MBP and put it in an external enclosure.

Wow!  I think I had this same issue just last night.
I was cleaning my macbook pro retina on the outside.  Then I opened it up and was wiping dust off the monitor and I can't pinpoint exactly when, but the colors changed suddenly.  It looked super strange, it was like green halo's and it looked worse when looking at it at an angle.  Of course I took no pictures!!!  I was freaking out that my 2 grand laptop was busted and I somehow removed a protective film or something.
But I digress...  The image looked very green and spacey, it was almost a neat effect.  After about 5 minutes it started to look a little more digital though.  There were straight lines of this halo effect on the edges and top.  After about 10 minutes it turned into a predominate issue with the blacks on screen.  I could open a web browser and it was unnoticable on a white background.  After about 15 minutes, you could only barely see the green cloud effect if you looked at the monitor from an extreme angle.  After about 20 minutes, it was completely back to normal, I almost feel paranoid like I see a halo or something strange.  But I believe that might be all in my head now.
So yerp, lemme know what you guys figure out.

  • I have many of those lost photos on my iPod.  How can I import those to my MacBook Pro without the iTunes synchronization kicking in and removing them?

I lost rather a lot of photos on a corrupted external storage device.  I have many of those photos on my iPod.  How can I import those
photos into my MacBook Pro without the iTunes synchronization function kicking in and effectively deleting those photos I want to
import from that iPod?  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as those photos now only reside on that iPod...

The photos you synced to your iPod through iTunes are no longer in their full resolution, but instead are scaled down thumbnails of those photos.  So if you do manage to get them off your iPod, they will be quite small in size compared to the original ones you lost.
In order to get them off of your iPod, you'll need the help of some sort of 3rd party software. Here is one option.

I'm assuming your dvd drive is broken? if you have a thumb drive large enough (8GB or better), you can use another computer to make a bootable image from the install dvd to the thumb drive. then you can install from the the thumb drive.

  • How to backup MacBook Pro without AirPort Time Capsule or External hard drive

How to backup MacBook Pro without AirPort Time Capsule or External hard drive

This is crude but if you need a work around, just plug the USB drive directly into the iMac.. copy the files to it.. then plug it into the TC.
You also do not need to use the TC as an intermediary between your iMac and MBP.. just turn on sharing in the computer.. so you can directly copy files from one to the other.. Macs have public access directory preconfigured for each user account.
As far as mounting the TC..
In finder use Go, Connect to server.. and type.
    AFP://TCname or TCipaddress
Where TCname is the actual name of the TC.. I strongly recommend you follow SMB network rules.. ie if your TC has a name like
    Fred Blog's Time Capsule 2445566.
It is too long.. it has spaces and it has non-alphanumeric characters.
    Shorten it to FredTC
No spaces no characters that are NOT alphanumeric.
TCIPaddress is simply the standard IP.
You can also use CIFS://TCname which according to the article forces the connection back to SMB1 rather than SMB2 which as usual is broken.
But I would definitely use AFP if possible. I cannot understand the decision to move to SMB as standard.

How do I set up my new MacBook Pro without using the annoying Voiceover?  I cannot get it to work right; it seems to get stuck and repeats the same thing over and over.  It is driving me nuts!  Is there a way to begin the setup process without using the Voiceover system?  I am a new convert from a PC and I thought a Mac was supposed to be "intuitive!"

There is no good reason to register your Mac anyway.
You can opt out of the setup process and registration by pressing Command (Apple key) and the "Q" key.
The registration process requires you to divulge a lot of unnecessary information.
