How to assign element to String[] array?

For example::
String[] array={ "abcd" , "1234","Noman","java"} ;
Suppose i want to replace ' 2 ' by ' x ' how i will do that ?

As PhHein said: String are immutable.
You can do like this:
    String[] strA = new String[]{ "abcd" , "1234","Noman","java"} ;
    for ( int i = 0; i<strA.length; i++) {
      String string = strA;
if(string.contains("2")){
string = string.replace('2', 'x');
strA[i] = string;
System.out.println(string);
System.out.println(Arrays.toString(strA));

  • How to insert elements into an array after each iteration of a for loop

    I am new to labview and working on an application where I am supposed to store an element into an array (without overwriting) after each iteration in a for loop. I have tried using Build Array Function keeping the indicator outside the for loop and played with indexing but didn't work. Please suggest me an idea how to do it.
    Thanks

    Thank you for your suggestion.Here is my actual application attached . In the first image, a difference in time is evaluated and an enum const of insert into array is passed to the shift register where it takes to Insert element into array phase (Second image). I need to enter the time difference into an array after every loop iteration. Please have a look and could you let me know where I am mislead.

    Hi agar,
    values in an array are "assigned" by building an array (using BuildArray) or by replacing values in an existing array (ReplaceArraySubset)!
    Good starting point could be this...

  • Choosing every n-th element of string array

    Hi,
    I want to load into memory series of thermograms. The thing is I can get all of them (180) read although I need to improve/compare the results of FFT performed on them - so I want to 'change the sampling frequency' so I will load every 2nd, 3rd, 4th,.. 9th termogram. That would be chosen by the user.
    How am I supposed to alter the 1d array of strings with paths so only every n-th element will be in output array? I attached the VI that gets coma as the first array element.

    With the new conditional tunnel, wouldn't it be easier to just feed the remainder into an Equals 0? and use that true/false as the tunnel condition to build the array that way instead of using multiple array functions to get the same result?
    The explicit method is more efficient because the size of the output is exactly defined. With the conditional tunnel, the final number of elements is not known and thus cannot be correctly allocated in one operation.
    Also, a Q&R operation is more expensive than a multipliucation. You could even do an addition in a shift register instead.

  • How to realign elements of an array? Working with old Dynamic Data consumers

    Hello,
    I've got some code which was written with DAQ assistants years ago.  I'm trying to use tasks and arrays for my producer now for speed and efficiency, but I'm stumped on one thing.
    The consumers were written to have the data in a certain order - there's even a VI in there that selects certain elements and sends them to specific outputs.  I previously took care of this with a simple VI that split the dynamic data, wired them to different order terminals, and then set it back to dynamic;  Screenshot attached.
    Is there a structure like this for array where you can break out all the array elements, reorder them and insert constants, and then put them back into the array?  What this ends up feeding is a subvi that's an array builder which converts the DD to array and then reroutes it.  Seems almost like what I'm trying to do could be done there, but it's a bit confusing to me.
    Thanks in advance.
    Still confused after 8 years.

    Hi Ralph@NES,
    One thing I have done before for this is create a mapping array and a for loop to reorder the elements in your data array. Take a look at the example VI I've attached. If you know exactly where you want everything, you just need to go into the mapping array and set the index destination for the corresponding data. Hope this helps.

  • How can i combine a string array with a waveform array and write this to a file.

    I am trying to set my VI up so that I can enter test information (notes to myself) and combine that with the time and date then write this as well as the waveform data from the daq to a spreadsheet file.  I am sure this is a simple task but I am new to LabView so any help would be very appreciated.

    An XML file is not a spreadsheet-formatted file, so that's not likely to help...
    Simply call the Write To Spreadsheet File twice. The first time you wire in a 1D array of strings
    which is your test information. Then, you call it when you're writing out
    your data. Make sure you wire a True constant to the "append" input for
    that function.

    You need to tell more about what you want done. What exactly does it mean
    to insert into a 2D array? Are you inserting into the row or column or
    both? By that I mean to ask what parts of the array get their indices
    incremented. Then what should happen at the endpoints? If you insert a
    point into one row then that row will have one more element than the others.
    Should the last element in that row be lost or should the other rows get a
    zero appended?

    There is this icon in the Array palette called Sort 1D Array. You might want
    to give it a try.

    There may be some freebie stuff floating around, but I know that NI has
    an SQL add-on for communicating with most standard databases. As mentioned
    in a previous posting this morning, you can also use ActiveX if that is
    more convenient/easier for you. From my experience, most people find the
    SQL approach easier once they get past the three letter acronym.

  • Loopping in an String array

    How to loop in a String array in ABAP?

    when you talk about loop....a loop is meant to traverse multiple entries....for example in a table...we can loop on rows...
    what exactly do you mean by looping on a string array (As such there are no arrays in ABAP).
    if you have multiple strings, you can put each string in an internal table and then loop through this internal table using the LOOP AT....ENDLOOP statements.
    in case of a single string, you can traverse it using offsets
    eg : STR+0(10) ---> which means start from position 0 and read 10 characters.
    please clarify a bit more on your requirement.

  • How to declare and initialize a STRING ARRAY (assign strings to array elements)

    How to declare and initialize a STRING ARRAY (assign desired strings to elements of an array, for example "abc", "def", "ghi", "jkl", etc.) in LabVIEW? I saw a "string array" block in help, but could not find it in the function palette. Does a spreadsheet string have to be in a file (or can it be in a string constant block)? Thank you.

    Hi,
    you can do it in several ways:
    1. Direct way: Create string array control on front panel and type strings in its elements
    2. Programmatically 1: Create string array indicator (or local variable of control), right click on it in block diagram, select "Create constant" from drop down menu. The array constant will appear. Now type values in this constant's strings
    3. Programmatically 1: Use "Build array", "Replace array subset", "Insert into array" or "Initialize array" functions from "Functions->Array" palette.
    And of course you can combine all of these methods.
    Good luck.

  • How do you assign multiple values to a single element in an array?

    I'm probably not wording the question right.
    I have an array, let's call it M[], and for each element in the array (we'll say M[1]), I need assign three integers: row, col and value.
    I need to set it up so I can do something like this:
    A.row = M[i].col;
    A[i].col = M[i].row;
    A[i].value = M[i].value;
    The algorithm isn't what I need help with, it's assigning .col, .row and .value to an index of an array.
    Please help if you can.

    You are right. You did not word your question perfectly, but I still think I get what you want.
    First of all: A single element in an array always has exactly one value. No more, no less.
    But that's not a problem. The element in an array is either of a primitive type (boolean, byte, char, short, int, long, float, double) or it's a reference (to a Object, String, MyClass, ...).
    You can simply write a class that holds your three values and create an array of that type:
    public class SomeData {
      public int row;
      public int col;
      public int value;
    // somewhere else:
    SomeData[] a = new SomeData[10];
    a[0] = new SomeData();
    a[0].row = 10;
    a[0].col = 5;
    a[0].value = 42;Note how you only assign a single value to the element (a[0]) itself. All other assignment actually go to fields of the object refered to by that element in the array.
    Also note that in Java types (such as classes, interfaces, ...) should start with a upper-case letter, while variables (local variables, members, parameters) and method names should start with a lower-case letter.
    Edit: I'm getting old ...

  • How to add elements into java string array?

    I open a file and want to put the contents in a string array. I tried as below.
    String[] names;
    s = new Scanner(new BufferedReader(new FileReader("outfile.txt")));
    while (s.hasNext()) {
                    String item = s.next();
                    item.trim();
                    email = item;
                    names = email;
                }But I know that this is a wrong way of adding elements into my string array names []. How do I do it? Thanks.

    Actually you cannot increase the size of a String array. But you can create a temp array with the lengt = lengthofarray+1 and use arraycopy method to copy all elements to new array, then you can assign the value of string at the end of the temp array
    I would use this one:
    String [] sArray = null;
    s = new Scanner(new BufferedReader(new FileReader("outfile.txt")));
    while (s.hasNext()) {
        String item = s.next();
        item.trim();
        email = item;
        sArray = addToStringArray(sArray, email);

    * @param s String to be added to the end of the array. If null, sArray will be returned.(No change)

    public String[] addToStringArray (String[] sArray, String s){

                   String[] temp = {s};
                   return temp;

                   return null;
         }else{
              if (s!= null){
                   String[] temp = new String[sArray.length+1];
                   System.arraycopy(sArray,0,temp,0,sArray.length);
                   temp[temp.length-1] = s;

  • How Do I Print the Number of Elements in An Array

    How do I print: "There are ____ number of elements in the array?"

    If you have a String holding a sentence, and if you split on non-empty sequences of whitespace (if the string has newlines in it, you'd probably need to pass the argument that makes \s match newlines, and for that you would probably need to use java.util.regex.Pattern -- see the docs and try some tests), when you'd get an array of Strings that were the non-whitespace parts of the original String. That makes for a reasonably good definition of the words in the sentence, although you could arguably get into some gray areas (does "isn't" count as one or two words? Does a sequence of numbers or punctuation qualify as a word?). In that case, counting the number of elements in the resulting array of String. using .length, would be a reasonable way to get the number of words in that sentence, yes.
    But rather than asking for confirmation on forums, why don't run some tests?
    import java.io.*;
    public class TestWordCount {
      public static void main(String[] argv) {
        try {
          BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));
          String line;
          while((line = in.readLine()) != null) {
            int count = // your code here, to count the words
            System.out.println("I see " + count + " words.");
        } catch (IOException e) {
          e.printStackTrace();
    }Put your word-counting code in there, then run it from the command line. Type in a sentence. See how many words it thinks it found. Does it match with your expectation, or the examples given (hopefully) with your homework assignment?

  • How to pass a single element in an array to XSL from BPEL

    In a bpel (2.0) process I have a for-each loop iterating through a list in the original input document.  Within that loop I need to construct an  input document  for a call to a web service based on data in the current node of the list objects I am looping through.
    Constructing the input document via BPEL assign activity copies within the for-each loop is an option but due to the complexity of that document I would prefer to use XSL.  But I don't know how to pass the index information (ie. the for-each counter) into XSL and use it there (and I would prefer not to have to do so, since that will prevent use of the XSL GUI in jdev), so I would prefer to send  the current node of the list as input to XSL instead.
    Is it possible to pass a sub-section of an XML document (e.g. one node in the array) as input into XSL rather than the whole document?  In other words, I would like to send the current array element from the original input document rather than the entire original input document because I will be using the data within that array element to create the web service input document.
    Example:
    <forEach parallel="no" counterName="i"
                         name="ForEachEntry">
                  <startCounterValue>1</startCounterValue>
                  <finalCounterValue>$numTimeEntries</finalCounterValue>
    If I used the BPEL assign activity to populate the input document I would need lots of copies similar to this:
                  <copy>
                      <from>$inputVariable.OteStgTimecardCollection/ns3:OteStgTimecard[1]/ns3:oteStgTimecardDetailCollection/ns3:OteStgTimecardDetail[$i]/ns3:origtransactionreference</from>
                      <to>$InvokeOteDetailAbsenceErrorStatusService_OteAbsenceDetailFailureService_InputVariable.OteAbsenceDetailFailureServiceInput_msg/ns19:OrigTransactionReference</to>
                  </copy>
    I would prefer to send the current list object as an input variable into an XSL transform:
         $inputVariable.OteStgTimecardCollection/ns3:OteStgTimecard[1]/ns3:oteStgTimecardDetailCollection/ns3:OteStgTimecardDetail[$i]
    Is there syntax in bpel that would do that?
    Thanks

    You need use While Element and use Array like Element[number]
    With While element you iterate <employee> node
    and with Element[number] you can extract information from that node.
