How to attach a file from a URL?

Hi experts,
I need to attach a file which is already in the repository, and I only know its URL.
I think I have to use BBP_PD_BID_UPDATE but it doesn't attach anything, or I'm mising some information.I have the GUID of the object and the URL. If I could have the file properties as mime or file size... I think it should be easier.
Anyone knows how to get this info? or how to attach the file to the object?

I am trying to download a picture from a specific URL such as
"http://ia.imdb.com/media/imdb/01/I/66/16/02m.jpg"
to my local HD, but I only have experience in downloading text based files, such as HTML using the BufferedReader method and a URL object to read the text based HTML file and PrintWriter to write the file on my HD. I have a hard time finding a good tutorial on this, so I would be more than happy to get any help from you guys, the cherry on the cake would of course be a code sample for demonstration...

Good question - and one that a lot of (business) people would like solved!
Your question prompted me to do some research, and I found this workaround posted by Scott Grossberg:
His solution actually addresses a second problem too - how to attach a document when replying to an email message. In your case you may not need to consider the "reply" aspect - but if not right now, it'll come in useful someday!
I've pasted it verbatim - if it works for you (it does for me) then all credit goes to Scott for solving the problem. There's just one thing I'd add to his solution: you will probably want to rename the message, as by default Goodreader gives it the Subject line: Mail with GoodReader attachments.
THE GOODREADER OPTION
1. CREATE the document you want to send.
2. SAVE it to GoodReader (this will require you to buy and install the app).
3. Go to your email and OPEN the email thread to which you want to Reply and attach your file.
4. COMPOSE your Reply.
5. DOUBLE TAP the message.
6. TAP SELECT ALL. This will copy the entire email thread.
7. OPEN GOODREADER on the iPad and go to the file you want to send as part of your Reply.
8. At the bottom of the GoodReader screen you will see an EXPORT icon (it looks like a rectangle with an arrow pointing to the right).
9. TAP the Export button.
10. TAP EMAIL FILE. Depending on your needs, tap either SEND FILE “AS IS” or “FLATTEN ANNOTATIONS.” This will open a compose message screen with the chosen document already attached.
11. TAP in the body of the email screen. TAP PASTE. This will place your composed Reply and the prior email thread into the message.
12. ENTER the Recipients’ names in the TO: field of your message.
13. SEND your email Reply.
The modified version (= when composing a new message rather than a reply):
1 Make sure that the doc you want to attach is saved in GoodReader
2 In the message you are composing, double tap, select all, and then copy.
3 Open GoodReader and select the file you want to attach
4 Select the export button at the bottom of screen
5 Select e-mail file
6 Position cursor in body of the email message, tap and paste. You may want to delete the "sent from GoodReader" text that precedes the attachment.
7 Rename your message (as by default it will be Mail with GoodReader attachments)
8 Add the recipient's address in the To field.

Does the javascript file is really a private resource?
Assuming it is a private resource, here are the few things you can do :
1. Don't put it into document root at all.
2. Put it in a location where access is denied e.g.
/mydocs/private/

PathCheck fn="deny-existense"
</If>
3. Use access control list (acls) to deny access to private resources.
4. Use <If> else around send-file SAF e.g.
<If uri !~ "*.js">
Service fn="send-file"
</If>
5. Use htaccess to deny access to those resources.
So it all depends on what you really want to achieve.

i always use an old fashioned method when i have to do this, i create a new jsp that contains a scriptlet that writes to the ServletOutputStream.

Hi,
directories creates basis. If you have task to store data in application server you already should have information into which folder you have to do it. If you don't have this information because it is just for example training for next task then you can use your personal folder into which you have access. To get list of all available folders please look at attached code and form get_directories (you get the list of folders you see in transaction AL11). But don't forget: If you are using open dataset you have to have rights to access application folder!

Open an xml file from a URL

i am trying to open an xml file from a URL.
i have been using the standard (i think!) xml suite, part of the System Events. is this possible? is this the best way? are there alternatives? any good tutorials of how to use it too?
the file i am trying to open is: http://www.tvrage.com/feeds/episode_list.php?sid=xxxx
where "xxxx" is a number of a show, e.g. 2930 is buffy

How do I copy files from a seperate hard drive and paste them to Bridge

Bridge is just a file Browser, nothing more and nothing less. It doesn't create folders of its own and it doesn't keep image files in the application itself.
You don't "paste" anything "into" Bridge. You just navigate Bridge to the other drive where the images are, point it toward said files, and Bridge will show them to you.
Once you find your files, you can use Bridge to move them or copy them to wherever you want. They will never be "inside" Bridge. As soon as you disconnect the other hard drive, Bridge will have no record of them unless you copy them over to a drive that is always attached to your computer, such as your boot drive or another internal drive.
Recapping; Your images are never in Bridge.

You are using Forms 4.5, which is a client/server configuration. When you create a pdf file, the file has to be written to a directory that is accessible from your PC. D:\ is acessible, /tmp/ not (that is a directory on some Unix server). If you want to write files to a Unix server, you have to set up Samba and map a drive from your PC to he Unix directory.
Since you are creating multiple pdf files, you will have to wait until all reports are finished and mail them afterwards. You can create a batch script to mail the files.

You will need an app (web browser) capable of both storing a document and accessing the site's functionality sufficiently enough to upload a file. Safari can't do this (and I'm pretty certain CloudOn can't either). A couple of options:
iCab Mobile - store documents in the Downloads section and has settings to both change the BrowserID to a non mobile browser to unlock site functionality, and has a setting for uploading files from its storage rather then iOS in general. Its not free, but not very expensive and is a pretty could all around web browser in its own right. I've been using it for quite some time.
iUploader - has both free (trial) and paid versions. I've only experimented with it a bit, but works fairly well. Like iCab, has its own file container that you up load from.
In both cases you would need to transfer your files from the source app (CloudOn, in this case) to the file storage, and then access the website.
