How To Auto Start Your Database

Hi
I installed Oracle 9i on my machine and created the DB with Database Configuration Assitant. Now the problem is when ever i restart my windows OS, I have to start the DB manually. I checked registry parameter ORA_sid_Autostart and it's value is set to true. Instance start mode is also auto
Any Idea?

Try to use the services administration tool, click right on OracleService<Oracle SID> service, click on Properties and set start-up type to automatic.

I suggest taking a closer look at http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-1985/6mhm8o5n0?a=view which explains the whole booting process in detail.
Apart from that you may also want to check the "ln" manualpage (ln(1)) which explains how to make symlinks on Solaris. After that it should be relatively easy; you basicly create a (sym)link in the right directory and then you're homefree.

  • How would you configure your database?

How would you configure your disks with those specifications?
    General Database Characteristics:
os is Oracle Enterprise Linux 64 bit
    Enterprise Edition
    180GIG size database.
    High "oltp" environment.
Estimated growth of 40 to 60GIG/year
    20GIG of archivelogs/Day
Flashback time is 24 hours:120GIG of flashback space in avg
Local backup. Full database copy, then incremental is the preferred method.
That way, if a datafile goes bezerk, replace with backup datafile then recover.
Or if only a few corrupt block, block recover with rman.
BTW: Backup is done locally first, then send to another server, than on tape.
Archivelogs is duplexed on another server.
    General Hardware Info:
    Server Platform: Dell PowerEdge 1950
    16 GIG RAM
    2 * 64 bit CPU's
    2 * local 300G/15rpm disks
    Storage: Dell PowerVault MD3000
    15 * 300G/15rpm Disks
    Possibility for 17 disks here.
Here is my configuration so far:
OS+ oracle binary + Online Redo Logs Copy 1 + Control File Copy 1: 2 disks raid 1
flashback + backup + Online Redo Logs Copy 2 + Control File Copy 2: 4 disks raid 1 or 10
    archivelogs: 2 disks raid 1
Temporary Datafiles: 1 disk no raid
UNDO Datafiles: 2 disks raid 1
    Datafiles 6 disk raid10
total 17 disks: + spare disks on the side of one ever fails
    1) How would you configure it with those specs?
    2) Is there missing info to make a particular decision?

Here is my reply concerning data separate from index files:
See http://www.dizwell.com/prod/node/751 for the complete article.
"Why wouldn't you keep indexes separate from their tables?! Because doing so makes no difference to performance... and I patiently explained that a table and its index are never accessed simultaneously by a single user so that contention between them cannot arise. And yes, in a multi-user system, of course the two could be accessed simultaneously -but so could two tables, or two indexes. "

  • How do you market your database backup services?

All database-driven sites need to be backed up at least weekly if not daily. How do you market this service to your customers? I personally prefer to back up daily because if the client screws up something they will naturally expect it to be easily fixed.
Do you include this as an option in the hosting plan? How do you price it? As an ongoing subscription or a single payment? Personally I don't want to go through the trouble of scheduling cron jobs or configuring a backup extension without getting paid for it...

What, you're prepared to back up a sites database on a daily basis for $100 dollars a year? Is it worth it. I agree though a database should be backed up regularly but I don't know whose responsibility that should be. If the client is prepared to pay an agreed fee for it then I guess it's ok but surely more than $100 a year. I would set the fee high to deter them from making me responsible. Just give them access to the control panel and then it becomes their worry and not yours.
Good hosts will be making daily back-ups anyway so one would hope that if one of their servers fails the information is backed up on another server preferably in another building in case of fire damage.

  • How do I start on boot with linux?

    Hi,
I'm running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.4 (Tikanga). How do I start the weblogic server on boot? Can I just put in the startWebLogic.sh from the /opt/Oracle/Middleware/user_projects/domains/adf2_domain/bin directory into init.d? Is there another script somewhere that I can use for this? I've searched and searched for this to no avail.
    Thanks,

You may also need to auto-start your nodemanage process(es). So that if your machine restarts, nodemanager will start and then ( if you have CrashRecoverEnabled=true in your nodemanager.properties file ), nodemanager will start your managed servers for you.

  • Auto-start application on Container/Server restart

What's the easiest was to have the container auto-launch a specific application whenever it is started/restarted? I assume this would also happen if the entire server were rtestarted?

    Hello,
If you put a server in your project and you put the servlet at auto-start your application will start automatically when the server will start.
To do that you just have to use the element:
    <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>
    in the servlet tag.
    server.xml:
    <application name="foo" path="../applications/foo.ear" auto-start="true" />
    http-web-site.xml:
    <web-app application="foo" name="foo-web" load-on-startup="true" root="/foo" />

  • Auto-Start Tidal Agent services

    Hi all,
Do you guys have an idea on how to auto-start the service of tidal agent in linux? Thanks!

    Thanks guys for the inputs.
It is now working, this is what I did:
I created "mystartup.sh" at etc/rc.d/init.d with this script inside:
    #!/bin/bash
    /opt/TIDAL/Agent/bin/tagent TIDALAGENT1 start
    #author: Lodz
    #chkconfig: 345 25 75
    #description: tidal agent auto startup
then i added the shell script on boot using this commands:
    # chkconfig --add mystartup.sh
    # chkconfig mystratup.sh on

  • How to stop the auto-start of log reader agent (replication) right after my database is restored?

I have the scenario where the SQL server is restored (after migration).
This database has transactional replication set-up on one of the databases. When I do a manual delete and restore of the database, I see that the replication starts right after the publisher and subscriber are restored.
Replication agents should not start and run before the integrity checks are completed. How to stop the replication from auto starting right after the migration?
    Thanks in advance - Jebah

Thanks Pradyothana, I have disabled the logreader, distribution agents through sp_update_job in Tsql script. I have also verified that there are no pending transactions to be replicated to the subscriber, I see that the job is still being executed. Is there
any other way to disable the jobs?
    Steps I followed
Started with a Working publication and subscription
Disabled the jobs (log reader and distribution agents)
Backed up publisher, subscriber, distribution and msdb
Deleted the publication, subscription, publisher and subscriber
Restored the publisher, subscriber, distribution and msdb
Enabled the jobs and executed sp_replrestart
    Observations/Issues
    Replication does not work
Replication monitor does not show any error
Jobs are shows as enabled but not started in job monitor
Not able to start/stop the log reader and synchronization manually.
I am not sure if I have missed something while restoring the db.
    Thanks in advance

  • How to switch off auto start of replication sp's.

    hi,
I was checking my sqlserver's master database and found some body has swithched on    auto start
    of the following sps.
    sp_MScleanupmergepublisher
    sp_MSrepl_startup
May be some one was exprerimenting with replication.
pls tel me how can i switch them off?
i was hesitating to use this command
    "sp_procoption 'spname', 'startup','off'"
, because i thought some on might have configured some thing else also for replication
or there might be some other way to swithch of these replication sp.
    yours sincerely

You dont want to stop these.
These are automatically started when SQL Server starts provided you have replication configured.

:bad interperter : no such file or directory
Please forward me process/steps for auto start/stop oracel services

:bad interperter : no such file or directorymeans that it could not find the interpreter which should be used to interpret the script.
most probably this is caused by the shebang (#!/bin/bash)
the default location of bash on RHEL (OEL/CentOS) is /bin/bash, which means that the shebang looks correct.
    can you make the shebang:
#!/bin/bash -xso shelltracing is put on and execute script again?
this will make clear if it is the shebang in your script, or in another script.

  • How to stop and start RAC Database

    Hi,
Can anybody tell me How to stop and start RAC Database.
Pls give me the exact procedure for OS - IBM Aix 5.3.
    Rajkumar

    Burleson,
It so appears, as from the numerous times you have been published incorrect, untested information, and non-working scripts, you are not an Oracle guru,
    but only a self-proclaimed one.
It also appears nothing on your 'CV' can be easily verified.
You state you are an 'adjunct professor emeritus', however anyone who was kicked out after a few months can call himself a 'professor emeritus'.
Looking at the enormous amount insults and slander you have posted directed to me and others on this forum, showing a highly unprofessional attitude toward your peers, violating this forums rules of conduct, don't you think you deserved to be banned completely?
After all, you are always promoting your own publications here, which is also in violation of the rules for this forum.
What makes you think that "Sybrand" is a man's name? How many male Sybrand's do you know? I don't know any, not one.
That's your problem. I'm as much as male, as you are a fat, ugly, self-proclaimed Oracle-guru, which you are clearly not, you are only a fraud, and this glares from all of your publications.,
