How to avoid creation of _(file.*), coping from tiger to pc?
how to avoid the creation of this file for ever on a pc environment??
I explain: as i copy any image file, it goes to a spooler directory and that begins instantly to process the file to an OPI server, separating CMYK channels, converting it to high and low resolution...
but as this _(file) is created (same name and extension, but 0Kb and with this _ underscore in the beggining of it name), it begins to process it, and as it really does not exists as an image itself, it crashes the OPI server, forcing us to restart it...
and then, you can imagine the mess, because we're a newspaper, with more than 100 machines logged in two cities simultaneously...
thanks for those who replied last topic I posted about some softwares to delete it! it really worked!!
but now, can anyone have a clue how to DON'T create this file?
thanks in advance!

I believe that command is supposed to stop the creation .DS_Store files on servers. Also, I think the plist file gets written to the user ~/Library/Pref, it probably ought to exist both there and in the /Library/Pref folder to really work.
I didn't think the Save for Web option would work for your purposes. I don't believe anything will work except to strip the resource fork off the files before you send them. There is an Applescript that will do it, using a UNIX command in the script. You select a folder, run the Applescript, and it strips the resource fork off all files in the folder and creates a sub-folder called Stripped with resourceless copies of the files in the original:
-- Strip resource fork and metadata in Tiger for one file.
-- If a folder is selected creates an unresourced subfolder of the selected folder
tell application "Finder"
try
set aFile to the selection as alias
set aFolder to the container of aFile
on error
display dialog "Select a file"
return
end try
set aFile to the quoted form of POSIX path of aFile
do shell script "rsync -a " & aFile & " " & aFile & "Stripped; mv " & aFile & "Stripped " & aFile
update aFolder
end tell
The "do shell script" line must be all a single line in Script Editor. It might wrap funny in the browser. Anyway, copy it, paste into Script Editor, hit compile, and save it as an application. I've only fooled with it a little tiny bit, so I'm not sure whether the rsync process would have any strange effects on complex Photoshop and EPS files or not.
As far as I know the only way to send Mac files without resource forks to a server is to strip them from the files.

How to avoid creation of ^M in linux scripts
Hi All
How to avoid creation of ^M in linux scripts
RegardsIf you keep your scripts on linux, there will be no ^M's.
If you use FTP, set transfer type to ASCII. (ascii command)
If you have scripts that show ^M's, you can get rid of them using vi(m) command:
1,$s/ <CTRL>v <CTRL>m //
(where <CTRL>-v means holding the CTRL button and pressing the "v" button, same for "m")
!! Please mind that, whilst it doesn't give any errors most of the time, it can give very strange and unexpected errors in certain cases.
It did give errors on linux+oracle 9 listener (!!!) -
How do i send an html file exported from muse as email blast with images and live links?
My question it:
How do i send an html file exported from muse as email blast with images and live links?
I have designed a "website" in adobe muse and exported it as an html file. I am not sure how to send my .html file in an email!
Best,
NicoleUnfortunately, the answer is, you don't. The requirements for HTML displayed in an e-mail reader are very different than those for HTML displayed in a browser. The output of Muse won't work as an HTML e-mail. You could upload the Muse site as a website and provide a link to it in an e-mail, but the HTML generated by Muse is not suitable for direct display by an e-mail program.

How can I save the .mp4 files downloaded from internet to ipad memory so that I don't have to download everytime to view them again. Also they might remove them from internet so I can't rely on the bookmark to them.
I'm trying to send home movies to my 10 year old nephew who lives across the country. He doesn't have a computer. He has an iPod touch. His parents have computers. But I don't want everything I ever try to have him do result in "you need your parent's computer for this." It's getting really embarrassing. I have converted my family over to Apple computers but now they want to buy iPhones, iPads, and iPods even though I tell them to go Android. It took a decade to convert them away from windows now I'm trying to keep them away from these freedom limited iOS devices and they won't listen. Then it becomes my responsibility to make their iPads print to their fancy pre-airprint color laser jet printers, get home movies onto them, and countless other things. It's driving me nuts.
I have converted these files to a format that the iOS devices will play directly off of dropbox. Now, how do I get the infernal devices to save it instead of play it? -
How do i find a .mp4 file downloaded from email to my iphone
How do i find a .mp4 file downloaded from my gmail email to my iphone. Unable to locate the file or maybe not sure how to go about it?
You don't, as ringtones are a one time purchase and as such can't be redownloaded.
If you still have them on your iTunes library, you may sinc them from there.
If you have a backup that contains them, you may restore your phone from that backup.
Or you can go to expresslane.apple.com and try for a re-issue. Which they do only occasionally and depending on the circumstances. -
How do you process a RAW file ARW (from a Sony a7R camera) in Elements 11?
How do you process a RAW file (ARW) from Sony a7R camera in Elements 11? Elements 11 does not seem to accept a ARW file.
Doug2014
For editing of the Sony a7R raw image in Photoshop Elements Camera Raw need the following ingredients
a. The Camera Raw version must support the camera that you are using, that is, the Sony a7R. Support for that camera did not come until Camera Raw version 8.3.
http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
b. The version of Camera Raw must be supported by the version of Photoshop Elements. Camera Raw 8.3 is not supported until Photoshop Elements 12.
The choices would appear to be:
a. Switch to Photoshop Elements 12
or
b. Use the DNG Converter to convert the Raw image to .dng
If all you have is Premiere Elements 11 which I do not think is the case, the Camera Raw plug-in allows you only to import the raw or dng image into the project for inclusion there - no Camera Raw dialog editing. But the same Camera Raw version - Camera Support - Premiere Elements version support still exists.
Please review.
Thanks.

how do you open a Numbers file sent from another Mac user with same operating system, i get a pop up that says I'm missing an index.hml file??? HELP PLEASE
The operating system may be the same but the Numbers applications are likely different. You need to get the apps in sync. Unfortunately, the Numbers (and Pages as well) saga is pretty confusing (and frustrating). Here's some info from the iWork resident version expert (PeterBreis0807):
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs. -

How do I remove "All My Files" icons from the toolbar?
Good Afternoon:
I have A shiny new 15" MBPro that came preinstalled with Lion that I have updated to 10.7.1.
If I open a finder window, there are two "All My Files" icons on either side of the toolbar. I asked a Genius about it and they said they had never seen that. I can remove "All My Files" from the list of Favorites on the left easily enough. I can open up the window to customize the ToolBar, but in that window there are no "All My Files" icons available to add or delete.
How do I remove the "All My Files" icons from the toolbar?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Below is a screenshot of the problem.Sort of surprised they didn't know. I'm lost as to why that even appeared on your computer unless you had put them there yourself which, clearly, you didn't if it was brand new out of the box.
Glad it's sorted out. -

Not possible.
Either unselect it during what it syncs, or manually manage > delete song. -
File Sizes from Tiger to Leopard?
I am migrating from Tiger on a G4 to Leo on a Mac Pro. When I copy files, the size of the tiger folder is larger than the leo folder. They both have the same # of files. Does anyone know why this may be?
Maybe different HD formats?Files that are the same size will take up more space on a larger drive that uses the same format due to inefficiencies in the filesystem; specifically, the disk is divided into very small blocks, and if only part of a block is used up, all of it is counted as used. The blocks are larger on larger disks because the filesystem limits the absolute number of them.

How to avoid pop-up dialog? "Read From Spreadsheet File.vi"
I am using LV2010 and VBAI2011.
I am using LV to write vi for my VBAI user interface. VBAI will send the inspection results to vi by "Update Inspection UI".
I am calling a "Run LabVIEW VI" from within the VBAI. This vi contains a sub-vi "Read From Spreadsheet File.vi"; the "file path" input to this sub-vi is a string control, which will be updated by a string value obtained in previous steps.
What happen is, when I run the Inspection, a windows "Choose File to Read" will pop up, even though I have already update the "file path" in VBAI. I guess this happens because the "Read From Spreadsheet File.vi" sub-vi didn't wait for the "file path" input, or rather the "file path" update was "too slow"
How to prevent this from happening?
Solved!

PQT_CurveFitting_Lookupxxx.vi 15 KBI didn't use your code but tried the attached simple VIs and they work well. Can you create a simple VBAI interface that just runs these two VIs and see if you are able to replicate the issue? The VIs are LabVIEW 2010 SP1
Attached is my VBAI inteface as well, which is 2011 SP1.

BASIS CONSULTANTHi Sankar!
In this case you should try to switch off the transport via
TRSP CORR in the table T77S0. You should set "X" so that the customizing pop-up does not allow anymore.
I hope i could help you!
Rock it!
Best regards,
