How to close TCP port in LV 4.1?

I've used the "TCP Listen" VI and the combination of "TCP Create Listener" & "TCP Wait on Listener" to accept a socket connection. That works fine, but I do not want the app to listen for any more requests once it has a connection. I would expect "TCP Listen" to close the listener once it has a connection, but it does not. When using the Create/Wait Listener VIs I call "Close Connection" on the Listener and even though I do not get an error, the port is still being listened to.
What could be going wrong?

I also tried the other method of creating a listener, waiting on the listener, and closing the listener when a connection is made. The close of the listener returned "success" yet a "netstat -a" still showed that it was still listening on that port.
Thanks again,
Kevin

  • RV042 - How to close all ports and leave some specific open

    Hello everybody,
    Here is the scenario of my network:
    - A company with 20 branches in Rio de Janeiro area. The main servers are in a datacenter located in downtown.
    Each branch has a RV042 router with firmware version 1.3.12.19-tm (Feb 13 2009 13:03:21) installed.
    All users in this network have a proxy configuration pointing to proxy.[blah].com.br port 3128.
    The HTTP/HTTPS traffic should go through proxy only.
    The network settings for every RV042 are similar:
    RV042 LAN IP = 172.16.***.1 /24.
    RV042 WAN IP = 192.***.***.*** /30.
    Network Setting Status
    LAN IP: 172.16.***.1 /24
    WAN1 IP: 192.168.***.*** /30
    WAN2 IP: Not used
    Mode: Router
    DNS(WAN1): 208.67.220.220 / 208.67.222.222 [OpenDNS Service]
    DNS(WAN2): Not used
    Firewall Setting Status
    SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection): On
    DoS (Denial of Service): On
    Block WAN Request: On
    Firewall -> Access Rules Section: Please see below
    The problem:
    - Some "smart" users were caught using Ultrasurf application, which changes the proxy settings to go through port 9666 or even 443.
    In other machines, we've found some black proxies [for example: 212.46.27.142 port 8080].
    My objective:
    - To close all ports in Firewall -> Access Rules section and grant permission only to some selected and specified ports.
    - To redirect all HTTP/HTTPS connections to go to proxy's IP address only.
    Gentlemen, could you please tell me which Access Rules can I set in these RV042s in order to block and prevent these users to continue abusing this network? Is there anything else am I missing?
    P.S.: The users who were caught using Ultrasurf were fired. ;-)
    I gladly appreciate your comments.
    Thanks in advance,
    Luciano

    Hello Randy,
    Thanks for your answer. But let me tell you better. In this scenario, all machines in LAN can use RDP and VNC normally.
    I want to block everything else, just to avoid users to try using other ports.
    You might want to try Deny all traffic out, except for the PC's you need  to use RDP, and then only allow 80, and 443 to the proxy.[blah].com.br  port 3128. This way all web traffic would have to pass through that  proxy, otherwise it would be denied.
    In this network, we use VNC to provide remote IT support to users in these branches.
    They use RDP to access some servers in the datacenter.
    I think that the rule below line 6 is letting users go and traverse the proxy.
    Priority    Policy Name    Enable    Action    Service        Source Iface    Source    Destination        Time    Day
    *                                                  Allow    All Traffic [1]             LAN     Any        Any                  Always
    How can I modify this access rule? It seems it cannot be altered.
    Thanks in advance,
    Luciano

  • How to open TCP Port on my RV220 Firewall router?

    Hello,
    I have a windows 8 server for a LAN. This has a Cisco RV220W Firewall which is connected to the T1 router. In order to host a 3rd party video conferencing software I need to have the TCP 1935 port open.
    I tried the following -
    1. Logged into my RV220W and added a rule using Manage Firewall Rules (Firewall-Access Control-Custome Services). Here I added a rule for TCP start port 1935 and Finish port 1935.
    2. Then I added an inbound rule on my Windows 8 server to open TCP 1935.
    However when I tested it using porttest.net, it said TCP 1935 is still closed. Can someone please let me know how can I open TCP 1935 port?
    Thanks,
    Abhi

    Hello
    your steps seems to be fine at first look, but somewhere in that chain there is probably something broken.
    what kind of service is on that server port?
    are you able to open connection from outside with telnet to Router WAN IP and port? example test from outside/internet:
    telnet X.X.X.X YYYY
    where X.X.X.X is WAN IP of Router and YYYY is port number.
    You can confirm that port forwarding is working on both devices:
    you can try to connect with computer between Router and Firewall and try that port on firewall.
    if previous test works, then for testing purposes move server to subnet between Router and Firewall and perform connectivity test from internet.

  • LMS 4.2 Why is TCP port 514 used and how to close it?

    An internal security scan showed that TCP port 514 is open on the Cisco Prime LMS 4.2.4 server.  The security team is concerned that this port is commonly used for rsh, which is not encrypted and may use plain text logins or poorly authenticated logins.  The port being open is documented in the "Installing and Migrating ..." manual for LMS 4.2 where it says that this TCP port 514 is used for Remote Copy Protocol in the direction from the server to device.  The well-known port associated with a service is usually on the target host, not on the host that initiates the connection, so this is a little confusing.  I see that there is no rsh service in /etc/inetd.conf, but there is an rsh service in /etc/xinetd.conf.  This LMS is not configured to use RCP for anything, as far as I can tell.
    Can I close TCP port 514 on this server without disasterous results, and how do I do that?
    Or, how do I satisfy the security team that having this port open is not a security concern?
    Thanks for any help.
    Dave

    I have a love/hate relationship with security audits like that. Happy to know the profile of a server but then hating to have to justify everything their "report" "concludes" (95% of which is usually just dressed up too output from Nessus or whatever).
    Problem is with appliance servers running a packaged application like LMS, mucking with the OS settings (rc files etc.) can break things in unexpected ways. I'm more in favor of putting it on a segmented network and applying access-control lists or firewall rules inbound vs. trying to take apart the system and put it back together using only the parts you think are necessary (a bit of hyperbole there but it's to make a point).
    Call it defense in depth and declare victory and then move on with using the tool to actually manage the network instead of defending its configuration to the Stasi.

    I am pretty sure rpc is a standalone daemon, and not managed by inetd. Instead check /etc/init.d/ and /etc/rc*** scripts.
    There may be some services that require rpc- nfs probably requires it (NFS v4 with kerberos authentication might not.) The idmap daemon used by nfs may also require this (not sure of the exact daemon name..)

  • Close open ports

    Troubleshooting my client network invasion and researched some information via my macbook.  The network is Windows7.
    Issue at hand is all of the established connections from my computer to the outside world via ports 50000 through 65000.  Wondering how to close said ports.

    Much Ado about nothing.
    What is outgoing on those ports?
    Doesn't really matter. It is incoming that you have to worry about and if they were Invaded then their router is not setup correctly. Has nothing to do with the computers behind the router. Not unless there are BOTs installed on those computer. And in that case closing ports won't help.
    EDIT:
    Go to ShieldsUP.com and do a scan.

  • How to get the number of bytes at TCP port

    Hi all,
    How to get the number of bytes to read at the TCp port...as someone had suggested in some forum we do read the number of bytes first and then pass this...
    but we get a problem when we have FF data in this...because then it sends 2 FF data...and cause of this we skip the last data...is there any solution for the same?

    Hi
    In LabVIEW you don't have the same property as in serail port.
    You havn't "Byte at TCPIP port".
    if you developp a protocol, one soltion, is to send the size to read.

  • How to close the COM Port ??????????

    Dear all :
    I have written an application that send AT commands to a modem , Once I opened a com port , i don't know how to close it . I got the null pointer exception when i create a new channel , because the inputStream and outputStream is owned by the previous channel . So , some one can teach me how to close the com port that opened before ?
    my source code for open port :
    public void Connect_Com(CommPortIdentifier portId) {
    Integer i = new Integer((int) (Math.random()* 1000));
    String channel = "channel" + i.toString();
    System.out.println(channel);
    try {
    System.out.println("preparing to open port");
    serialPort = (SerialPort) portId.open(channel, 2000);
    } catch (PortInUseException e) {}
    try {
    inputStream = serialPort.getInputStream();
    System.out.println("getting inputStream");
              } catch (IOException e) {}
    try {
    serialPort.addEventListener(this);
              } catch (TooManyListenersException e) {}
    serialPort.notifyOnDataAvailable(true);
    try {
    serialPort.setSerialPortParams(9600,
    SerialPort.DATABITS_8,
    SerialPort.STOPBITS_1,
    SerialPort.PARITY_NONE);
    } catch (UnsupportedCommOperationException e) {}

    serialPort.close() ?
    From the documentation of SerialPort:
    - SerialPort extends CommPort.
    - CommPort.close() closes the communications port.

  • E4200 How to close port 139 ?

    So finally that my e4200 is capable of disabling wps i run in to another question.
    how to close ports 139 445 ?
    these are open by default and i didnt figure out how to close them, in browser setup..
    and YES port 139 IS a security issue. people denying this, are the same, that denied any vulnearibilties to wps.

    Well, in the router set up we can only open the port for any specific application. But there is no way in the router management page where we can close any specific ports for specific purpose.

  • Open ports slow down my internet connection. How to close them? What to do?

    My MacBook Pro has massive problems with internet connectivity. At times the connection is blazingly fast, at times unbelievably slow.
    I've spoken to my internet provider who was able to inform me that my computer opens up 500-700 ports which is probably what's slowing down the network connectivity. When I'm online with the MacBook Pro, the web gets unstable – also for other connected devices like iPad etc.
    The web supporter asked me to run an anti-virus scan which I did – with no results. The problem persists. When my MacBook Pro is not online, there are approximately 15 ports open, when I log on the web that number increases to between 500 and 700.
    Is this normal?
    Can anyone tell me how to solve this issue?
    How do I figure out which application opens these ports? (and how to close them?)
    I tried logging into another user account on the computer and the problem seemed to disappear, indicating that it is caused by something run only on my user account.
    Hope someone can help me..

    Open ports don't slow down your computer. The tech support person you spoke to doesn't know what they are talking about.
    Basically, when you are using a web browser, opening a page means that the browser needs to open a connection for each element in the page (e.g., it needs to grab each picture, CSS, and JavaScript file that the page requires). This could be a couple of dozen, or it could be hundreds (and there's no telling what Flash content on the page will do). The browser tries to mitigate things a bit using a cache (you might check to make sure the cache is turned on, but this is the default setting). However, this is how all browsers work and how the whole system is designed to operate. You cannot "close" any ports, and they don't linger open, they remain open only as long as data is being transferred. This is expected and appropriate behavior.
    The most likely culprit is that you are receiving poor DNS service from your service provider. Every time the computer sees an address like 'http://www.google.com', it needs to send out a request to figure out what numerical address goes with the human-readable name. If the DNS service your system is assigned to use doesn't respond lightning-quick, your experience is going to be very sluggish.
    You might want to add an external DNS service to your list of DNS providers. Go to System Preferences > Network, select the network you are using on the left (Ethernet or AirPort), and click the 'Advanced' button. Click on the 'DNS' tab, then press the '+' button under the left panel. I would add the OpenDNS.com DNS servers. Add the following DNS addresses:
    {quote}
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    {quote}
    Click the 'OK' button. And then the 'Apply' button to save the changes.
    That will probably fix the problem. If it doesn't the next most likely issue is either network congestion (e.g., your ISP's network is just too busy; a very common thing for small ISPs and cable Internet service), or the remote site that you are trying to contact is simply not performing so well.

  • How do i find out what tcp ports are open? and where do i look it up?

    how do i find out what tcp ports are open? and where would i go to see them? i have a program that is asking for it and i am unable to find where those are listed.

    If you are not too tech savvy, try using the Network Utility found in the Utilities folder. Just have the Mac scan itself.
    If tech savvy, there's always Fyodor's classic NMap, found at www.insecure.org.

    can you help me and give me steps

    I believe Solaris 9 also has RBAC control. If so then all you need to do is present the uid with the PRIV_NET_PRIVADDR privilege. See the privielegs(5) manpage for more information on the subject.
    This privilege will allow the userid to bind to ports < 1024. You can give a user this privilege either by using usermod (you will probably need the auth_attr(4) manpage as well) after which you need to login again. Or you can try using ppriv to modify the privileges on the users shell.

  • How to do a silent configuration of SQL Server 2005 to a static tcp port ?

    Hello,
    I have a SQL server 2005 but after checking the ports of sql server,it is observed that dynamic ports are being used.
    I want to install SQL server 2005 and configure SQL serevr to a static TCP port by using silent mode of installation.There are ways to do it using SQL configuration manager and using server network utility but I want it through the silent mode.
    Please help to assist how this can be achieved through silent mode of installation.

    Hi AshishB,
    According to your description, you want to configure SQL Server to a static TCP port by using silent mode of installation. I recommend you use WMI scripting and the SQL Server WMI provider. After installation, change the TCP/IP port with the script. For
    more information about silent installing with fixed TCP port, you can review the following article.
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/914f8b72-3164-47ae-91fb-f7ed6f8ea7e6/silent-install-with-fixed-tcp-port?forum=sqlexpress
    There is detail about how to configure that manual by launching the SQL Server configuration manager, enabling TCP/IP connections, specifying the ports from the command line, you can review the following post.
