How to connect to SQL Anywhere db dynamically - No ODBC -

Hello all -
We have an application (c++) with several reports (crystal 10) that are dynamically connected to several access databases depending on the users request. We are now moving that application to .net (c#) and SQL Anywhere 11. I am able to create an odbc connection and use that connection to develop reports against the new database, but am unable to locate any information on how a connection can be established on the fly to run the report against different database instances. Can this be done dynamically from the application preferably with ADO.net? How? Where Can I find documentation supporting this?

You'll need to setup heterogeneous services. This is done by creating an init file for the SQL Server db with %ORACLE_HOME%\hs\admin that refers to a DSN for the Sql Server Database. The listener would also need an entry for the SQL Server DB DSN. After that you would create a dblink to SQL Server in your Oracle instance and then could query across the dblink.

In Oracle Metalink site they have suggested using Transparent Gateway for SQL Server as a solution.
But is there a way we can connect directly to SQL Server from Forms using an ODBC connection
without installing anything on the database server?

Hello all,
I was able to connect to SQL Server from Oracle using Generic Connectivity (HSODBC).
Transparent gateway was not required.
Followed metalink note 109730.1
So, after I created a dblink to SQL Server, I created a synonym for the dblinked SQL Server table.
When I used the synonym as the table source in Oracle Forms, I got the following error while querying.
"ORA-02070 - ROWID is not supported in this context."
This is because Forms has an invisible ROWID field and when data is fetched from SQL Server table
no Rowid is fetched since SQL Server table doesn't have one.
Is there a way to overcome this issue or do we have populate the block manually using a SQL query ?

I'm new in oracle developer yesterday i setup in my laptop database 11g the last version (11.2.0.1.0), well i follow steps still i got succeed to install, and i got my local host URL and i test my user name and password work very well, my problem now is i try to connect database 11g using Oracle SQL Developer 3.0 (3.0.04.34) but always filed and with my little experience i don't know where the wrong. as i said i test database after finish install is work fine the my URL is https://Ahmed-HP:1158/em and i test my username and password that i already set before is enter normal in my local database, please i need help to know how i connect database with Oracle SQL Developer 3.0 (3.0.04.34).

because the message when i test connection always is filed and I'm sure i typing username and password and SID:orcl as i set when install database.port 1158 is what the dbcontrol (Oracle Enterprise Manager) is listening on. OEM is NOT the database. As far as the database is concerned, OEM is "just another client".
Actually, the database doesn't listen for requests on any port. There is another process, the "listener" that listens for requests to connect to the database. Typically, it listens on port 1521. Problem when changing connection to SQL Anywhere during runtime

I designed a report in the Crystal Reports 2008 designer using a JDBC connection
to a SQL Anywhere 11.0.1 database.
Everything works fine, I´m able to preview the report in the designer.
But when loading and running the same report in a Eclipse-based java-application I receive
an error.
When I set the db connection parameters I receive an "unexpected database-connector-error".
When starting the report without changing the connection parameters set in the CR2008-designer
the same error appears.
When using a report based on a MySQL-database everything works fine.
I´m able to preview the report in the designer and I´m able to load the report
and change the datasource to another MySQL-database at runtime.
What do I have to do to change a SQL Anywhere connection at runtime?

It is possible to build a universe on a SQL Server Analysis Server cube. Once in the universe it is possible to use Query as a Web Service and or Live Office.
There are some good blogs on connecting SAP cubes/BEx queries, but the same applies to any cube once the universe is connected.
