How to cool down my Macbook?

I have the latest version of the MacBook (the white one), 15'' and when I run a game, the fan starts to work really fast and the mac start to overheat. Do you know if the cooling fans work in this model? And if there is any that is better for this model (for example where the fans should be on the cooling pad)?

Not sure how well they work on Mac's.  Those are more designed to work with PC's that circulate their air from the bottom out the sides.  The MacBooks cycle their air through the back of the computer.  It might help if you have it there in keeping the bottom a bit cooler but I'm not sure that it is going to make a huge difference.  The fans are speeding up to do their job, they keep the computer cool and keep the processor from overheating and causing damage.  You are playing the game, and the processor has to process more data causing it to get hotter than an idle computer would be which is why the fans have to kick into a higher gear to cool it off.

  • How to Cool Down a MacBook Pro most efficient?

    Hello,
I bought a MacBook Pro 13' a few days ago, and I'm very happy about the computer! Very good quality! I just have one little problem, when I'm gaming Flight Simulator, X-Plane, then my MacBook gets really hot. I know that there's methods to cool down a computer, but what's the best and most efficient methods to cool down my MacBook Pro 13' during gaming?
Hope some one is able to help ! Thank you !
    AMLaursen

No I just found it on Amazon, I have a Belkin one I picked up at a supermarket near home. I don't game but I find Skype get the computer hot so I use the cooler then.
The one I have brings the  temp down and the fans slow down as well.
I would have thought that they are all very much similar, just blowing air under the computer case, the Belkin ones leave a gap under the computer for the hot air to escape, not sure if that helps or not.

It is a case I think of getting one and trying it out.

  • How to cool down a fanless mini

    Hi wise people,
I recently got a defective late 2009 model Mac Mini. The unit that houses the HDD and the optical drive was damaged, so the mini does not even turn on with it inside. I took it out and the mini works great (booting from an external FW800 drive, of course). Since the fan is part of the HDD/optical drive assembly, though, that means that I have no active way of cooling it, so it is always fairly hot to the touch and doing between 165/198 degrees Fahrenheit.
I do as much as I can to keep it as cool as possible --it is on its side on a well-ventilated tabletop, on an aluminum surface, and I guess missing a substantial part of its internals should help, right?
    Any suggestions will be appreciated.
    TIA
    Felix
    P.S. Specs are: 2.26Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4GB of RAM, running 10.8.2.

I had no idea how the Antec one would work either, but if it work for a Laptop... ????
While the temps are within design limits, it will of course last longer if you can cool it down. Even say...

  • How to cool down Qosmio after GeForce Go 6600 upgrade?

I have a Qosmio G10 which I was in love just a few months ago. It's display had a problem and the service replaced the board with a new one. Now the mainboard and the graphics card is even better then it was before. Looks like great but for me it is not :(
Because I use my notebook late at night in silence and I don't want it's fans working that much! I was using it in low-power mode and that was not a problem for me because it was giving me the silence. But now even in low power mode I can not stop the fans and the noise.
Is there anything I can do, is there any upgrade I can do, may be adding an external heat sink connection kind of thing?
    Thank you,
    Tunc

    Hello Tunc
If you check carefully Qosmio area you will find discussion about motherboard exchange on this unit. Anyway, the fact is that new motherboards have new graphic cards. Usually the service partner must explain you that this card produces more warmness and the unit will be louder (cooling fan). Second thing is the power consumption. With this card the power consumption is higher and the time that you can use the unit with battery power supply will be for about 25% lower.
I hope that service partner has informed you about these two important things. Unfortunately there is no much to do. The sensors register high temperature inside and cooling fan runs and runs. I recommend you to place the notebook little bit higher to make more place between desk and notebook itself.
Sorry but I don't see any other option.

  • How to cool down my mac?

I have had my computer for about 3-4 years and the battery has overheated once already. My mac was getting really hot and I got the battery replaced. That was about a year ago but recently, I feel like my mac is getting really hot again. The fan turns on but it is still hot. I don't want it to overheat again because paying for a new battery is expensive. Is there any program or things I can do so it won't be so hot? I have reduced necessary usage but anything else?

You don't want to change the fan speed.  Very rarely is that the problem.
I would first try using the laptop on a hard straight surface.
Also,  I would let the computer run without any programs running.
See if the computer gets hot just turning it on and running without being processor intensive.
Computers will normally crank up the fan if the CPU(the Brain) is using more power.  The more programs you run the more the brain thinks. The more the brain thinks the more fan it needs.
If your computer is running it's fans super fast for no reason then that may be a problem.
Here is a cool pad you can try.
    http://www.amazon.com/ThermaPAK-HS15A-HeatShift-Laptop-Laptops/dp/B001CBFTFM
I have a feeling thought if you just use the computer at your desk and turn the computer off at night and not charge it all day it should be just fine.

  • How To Cool Down The Z2

Will it help if I submerge my Z2 in a basin of fresh [cold] water when its temperature rises at an unusual level? Sometimes, playing HD games and videos really heat things up after a considerable amount of time, especially when I'm out-and-about or in a very humid place.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you use your device to talk, transmit data, or play games or music for an extended time, the device may get hot. This is normal because in these conditions the device uses more power than usual and therefore generates more heat.
If your device gets hot after only light usage (after limited use) or for no apparent reason, we would suggest you to:
make sure you are using original charging accessories (battery, charger, USB cable etc.). A non-compatible third-party accessory, such as a battery, a charger or a USB cable may cause the device to malfunction.
back up all your data in the phone, then perform a software update/repair procedure to make sure you have the latest Xperia™ device software. Do this by using the PC Companion application on Windows® computers or the Sony™ Bridge for Mac app on Mac® computers. Before performing a software repair, make sure that your phone is fully charged.
contact your retailer or an authorised service center. Before handing the phone over for service, back up all your data to avoid possible data loss. Don't forget to bring proper documentation with you, for example, proof of purchase, warranty cards and so on. This may vary in different markets, countries or regions.

  • HELP! I shut down my macbook pro and now after applications have been in full screen mode for awhile they automatically minimize and it takes me back to the desktop. How do I fix this?

I shut down my macbook and now while applications such as safari have been open for awhile, even while active, will automatically minimize and it take me back to the desktop.  How do I fix this?

I should add that this has happened before and I feel like it was a quick un-toggling of a box in my settings, but I can not remember what to do.

  • How many cooling fans are in 13" MacBook Pro retina?

I just got a late 2013 13" MacBook Pro with retina display and I'm wondering how many cooling fans are in the machine. I've noticed when I use iTunes to play music/movies or use the iTunes visualizer, it gets hot. I've seen the videos on the retinas and I've notived that the 15" model  has two and I can't find any videos or pictures indicating whether the 13" has one or two. I know that the openings on the side are to bring in air and then pushes it out where the screen and the keyboard meet. I notice a lot of hot air coming out more towards the right of the machine than the left. I had a mid 2012 non-retina Pro but I had it replaced as it had too many issues and I know when I used it, it didn't get as hot when I did this stuff. I'm just making sure in case it's an issue, even thought I got this new MacBook on Monday 6/9/14. I'm also guessing it heats up faster since its a smaller machine and the components are a lot closer. And I understand that playing games or doing something that requires a lot of processing or graphics power will cause the machine to heat up since it's requiring so much from the machine. Like I said, I want to avoid having issues with this one. My last MacBook had three logic boards, two hard drives, hard drive cable, hard drive bracket, and clam shell replaced in less than a year of purchase in September 2013. When the hard drive crashed last week for no apparent reason last week, I took it to Apple on Monday this week and they finally made the choice to replace it completely and I upgraded to a retina just by paying the difference.

This is my mac's info. I got it as a gift from australia. Initial 3 months it gave me a superb service, but recently it's having a major overheating issue,it shoots up up to 87 degrees. Is it possible that any other components are damaged somehow? Usually the temperature shoots up while I play online streamings.

hmmm...how i hate myself for being such a careless person...
    PLEASE HELP ME...
    Thank you in advance.

How exactly did you shut down your laptop? Not a hard restart (holding down the power button), I hope... if that's the case, then it is extremely unlikely the file is still intact on your computer. If it is, it would be an image on your RAM, and it is time-and-resource-intensive to recover it if it is even there. RAM memory is disposable and always being written over. Sorry dude...
If it wasn't a hard restart, Keynote should have made a backup, unless you 'Force Close'd it.
It really all depends on how your mac was shut down.

These may be your problem candidates:
Uninstall them and then reinstall in a systematic manner and see if the MBP crashes again.  If  and when it does, then that is the troublemaker.

I can't shut down my MacBook Pro.  Each time I try, I get the following message: "The Finder can't quit because some operations are still in progress."  How can I determine what is running?

    Yea,
I bought an original CRT iMac  two day's before  they were launched, which got the reseller into trouble, and had it replaced by APPLE.
This was a great learning process for me dealing with the glitches. :-)
I LOVE MAC. Now own 4 and on my 10th. in 15 years + 7  bought for family.
    Cheers,

  • How do you cool down the iPod touch

How and is it bad if you don't?

Like Kappy said, turn it off for a while, a couple of hours at least. How hot is hot? A little warm... or too hot to handle? If you bake your iPod you can damage the battery and circuits doing permanent damage. Have seen a couple posts where people have reported there iPod's started smoking (as I remember these were heavy gamers that refused to turn off the iPods) and one stated it started on fire; don't remember the circumstance. During prolonged heavy use, like long gaming sessions-- (activities that work the CPU hard) and charging, getting warm is normal. But if it is getting to hot to handle or a heat warning is popping up, you have a problem. Turn it off, allow it to cool down. If keeps reoccurring try resetting or Restoring to backup or Restore to new. If over heating continues contact Apple Genius Bar and have your iPod evaluated. Good luck, Cheers.

  • How  come my iphone5 shuts down my macbook??

How come my iphone5 shuts down my macbook when the iphone is unplugged from the computer?!?! It just happened again and now my macbook won't turn on and the power cord is blinking oddly!

Hold the computer's on/off button for a long time (10 to 15 seconds) to see if that starts your computer.
I suggest from now on when you connect your iPhone, pay attention to the eject button in iTunes.
