How to count the no of fields returned by recordset?

hi friends,
how can i know how many columns have been returned by the recordset
ex. rs.executeQuery("select * from table");
now how many columns r there in the table, can this be known?
thanx in advance,
Vishal

ResultSetMetaData rsmd = rs.getMetaData();
int columnCount = rsmd.getColumnCount();ResultSetMetaData will provide you with a great deal of information about the ResultSet - check out the API here: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/docs/api/java/sql/ResultSetMetaData.html
Hope this helps!

  • How do I count the number of records returned in the CMIS query

    How do I count the number of records returned in the query CMIS?
    SELECT COUNT(*) FROM ora:t:IDC:GlobalProfile WHERE ora:p:xRegionDefinition = \'RD_PROJETOS_EXCLUSIVOS\''}
    Euler Homero

    Hi Euler,
    interestingly enough, the reference guide for CMIS ( http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/CMIS_Query_Language ) that I found does not mention the COUNT function at all. On the other hand it states that: "The SELECT clause identifies which virtual columns to return in the result set. It can be either a comma-separated list of one or more queryNames of properties that are defined by queryable object types or * for all virtual columns."
    There are, however, some other posts like e.g. http://alfrescoshare.wordpress.com/2010/01/20/count-the-total-number-of-documents-in-alfresco-using-sql/ which state that they could make it working.
    Having asked in the WebCenter Portal forum, I assume that your content repository is WebCenter Content. The CMIS doc for the Content is available here: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/doc.1111/e15813.pdf (no COUNT there either). It does, however, mention explicitly that "CMIS queries return a Result Set where each Entry object will contain only the properties that were specified in the query.". This means your could rather investigate the Result Set. Note that there are also other means than CMIS how to get the requested result set (e.g. calling a search service directly via so-called RIDC).
    In the given context I am also interested what your use case is. OOTB CMIS in WebCenter Portal is used, for instance, in Content Presenter, where it is content rather than "parameters" what's displayed.

  • How to count the number of rows in a resultser object?

    hi there
    how to count the number of rows in a resultser object which may contains millions of rows? besides using a while loop? thanks

    You don't, you execute a query whose result is the record count of those records that match the search and then you execute the actual query to create your record set. Typically you do
    select count(id) from YourTable where [filter]
    from the resulting ResultSet do
    int res.getInt(1);
    which gives you the count and then
    select id from YourTable where [filter]
    to produce the actual result set.
    in the second query the id part can be substituted with the actual fields you want.

    Hi Venkat,
    To check the number of digits, just convert it to a string and use the length() method. to get the number of characters. However, I am not getting your second point of printing the number?

  • Count the number of carriage returns in a multiline text box

    Hello,
    I have a script to count the number of carriage returns at the end of each line of text in a multiline text box.
    After running the script in the console, the result keeps showing as 0.
    Can anyone please advise how the script can be revised to count the number of carriage returns?
    var count = 0;
    for (var i = 0;  i < this.getField; i++)
    var f = this.getField("ActionAgenda");
    if (f.value =="\u000d") count++
    console.println("There are a total of "+ count + " carriage returns.");
    Any assistance will be most appreciated.

    Try this:
    var count = 0;
    var s = getField("ActionAgenda").valueAsString;
    for (var i = 0; i < s.length; i++) {
        if (s[i] === "\r") count += 1;
    console.println("There are a total of "+ count + " carriage returns.");

  • How to count the number of wins?

    I have a tic tac toe simulator that simulates a game of tic tac toe (obviously). I press the 'play' button, and 1 random X and O is placed in 9 of the labels. Then the application says if X or O wins, or if the game was a tie/no winner.  So,
    what I want to do is when I click the 'exit' button, I want a message box telling the user how many times X won, O won, and how many ties there were.  I am not too sure how to count the number of wins.
    -Thanks

    Thanks for the reply.  I could be wrong, but I do not think that is exactly what I am looking for.  Here is the code that I have that determines the winner:
    switch (checkWinner())
    case 'T':
    winnerLabel.Text = "It was a tie!";
    break;
    case 'O':
    winnerLabel.Text = "O Wins!";
    break;
    case 'X':
    winnerLabel.Text = "X Wins!";
    break;
    private char checkWinner()
    char WinnerChar = ' ';
    int winning_line = 0;
    if (GameBoardCellChar[0].Equals(GameBoardCellChar[1]) && GameBoardCellChar[0].Equals(GameBoardCellChar[2]))
    WinnerChar = GameBoardCellChar[0];
    winning_line++;
    if (GameBoardCellChar[3].Equals(GameBoardCellChar[4]) && GameBoardCellChar[3].Equals(GameBoardCellChar[5]))
    WinnerChar = GameBoardCellChar[3];
    winning_line++;
    if (GameBoardCellChar[6].Equals(GameBoardCellChar[7]) && GameBoardCellChar[6].Equals(GameBoardCellChar[8]))
    WinnerChar = GameBoardCellChar[6];
    winning_line++;
    if (GameBoardCellChar[0].Equals(GameBoardCellChar[3]) && GameBoardCellChar[0].Equals(GameBoardCellChar[6]))
    WinnerChar = GameBoardCellChar[0];
    winning_line++;
    if (GameBoardCellChar[1].Equals(GameBoardCellChar[4]) && GameBoardCellChar[1].Equals(GameBoardCellChar[7]))
    WinnerChar = GameBoardCellChar[1];
    winning_line++;
    if (GameBoardCellChar[2].Equals(GameBoardCellChar[5]) && GameBoardCellChar[2].Equals(GameBoardCellChar[8]))
    WinnerChar = GameBoardCellChar[2];
    winning_line++;
    if (GameBoardCellChar[0].Equals(GameBoardCellChar[4]) && GameBoardCellChar[0].Equals(GameBoardCellChar[8]))
    WinnerChar = GameBoardCellChar[0];
    winning_line++;
    if (GameBoardCellChar[2].Equals(GameBoardCellChar[4]) && GameBoardCellChar[2].Equals(GameBoardCellChar[6]))
    WinnerChar = GameBoardCellChar[2];
    winning_line++;
    if (winning_line == 0 || winning_line > 1)
    WinnerChar = 'T';
    return WinnerChar;
    Do I have to include something extra in here to get the count or no?
    The code I posted is the coding in my play button.

  • How to Customize the Message "No Row Returned" from a Report

    Hi,
    I've been trying to customize the Message "No Row Returned" from a Report.
    First i followed the instructions in Note:183131.1 -
    How to Customize the Message "No Row Returned" from a Report
    But of course the OWA_UTIL.REDIRECT_URL in this solution did not work (in a portlet) and i found the metalink document 228620.1 which described how to fix it.
    So i followed the "fix" in the document above and now my output is,..
    "Portlet 38,70711 responded with content-type text/plain when the client was requesting content-type text/html"
    So i search in Metalink for the above and come up with,...
    Bug 3548276 PORTLET X,Y RESPONDED WITH CONTENT-TYPE TEXT/PLAIN INSTEAD OF TEXT/HTML
    And i've read it and read it and read it and read it and can't make heads or tails of what it's saying.
    Every "solution" seems to cause another problem that i have to fix. And all i want to do is customize the Message "No Row Returned" from a Report. Please,...does anyone know how to do this?

    My guess is that it only shows the number of rows it has retrieved. I believe the defailt is for it to only retrieve 50 rows and as you page through your report it retrieves more. So this would just tell you how many rows was retireved, but probably not how many rows the report would contain if you pages to the end. Oracle doesn't really have a notion of total number of rows until the whole result set has been materialized.

  • How to control the number of fields in the Advanced mode in af:query

    Hi,
    How to control the number of fields in the Advanced mode in <af:query>?
    Say i have 20 fields in my table and i created a view criteria with 2 fields. It would work perfectly in Basic mode. But in the Advanced mode all other fields selection is possible on clicking the ADD Fields button. I did not want the client to make a search with all 20 fields. Only 10 fields are to be listed in the Advanced Mode even though there are 20 fields in my table.
    How do i control the list of fields in ADDFields button?
    Any ideas?
    KR

    You can uncheck the Querable property of the attributes which you need not show up in the Advanced Mode (but they will not show up in other modes too !) or programatically set the same as mentioned here -
    http://adfcodebits.blogspot.com/2010/11/bit-27-setting-view-object-attributes.htmlAlso you can hide the AddFields button as suggested here - http://www.notjustjava.com/2011/12/cool-tips-to-showhide-components-of-the-query-control-of-adf/

    The only option to see the active table/ field name is through F1 --> Technical Information. Apart from this, you can use any 3rd part application like GUIex (INbuilt in SAP ECC 6.0 ... can be activated by clicking on the tri-color button on the top right), but you need technical knowledge to understand the information. As far consolidated list of MM tables is concerned, SAP don;t provide you the same at one place, it experience and knowledge which help you in this regard.
