How to Customize the Message "No Row Returned" from a Report

Hi,
I've been trying to customize the Message "No Row Returned" from a Report.
First i followed the instructions in Note:183131.1 -
How to Customize the Message "No Row Returned" from a Report
But of course the OWA_UTIL.REDIRECT_URL in this solution did not work (in a portlet) and i found the metalink document 228620.1 which described how to fix it.
So i followed the "fix" in the document above and now my output is,..
"Portlet 38,70711 responded with content-type text/plain when the client was requesting content-type text/html"
So i search in Metalink for the above and come up with,...
Bug 3548276 PORTLET X,Y RESPONDED WITH CONTENT-TYPE TEXT/PLAIN INSTEAD OF TEXT/HTML
And i've read it and read it and read it and read it and can't make heads or tails of what it's saying.
Every "solution" seems to cause another problem that i have to fix. And all i want to do is customize the Message "No Row Returned" from a Report. Please,...does anyone know how to do this?

My guess is that it only shows the number of rows it has retrieved. I believe the defailt is for it to only retrieve 50 rows and as you page through your report it retrieves more. So this would just tell you how many rows was retireved, but probably not how many rows the report would contain if you pages to the end. Oracle doesn't really have a notion of total number of rows until the whole result set has been materialized.

  • How to get the number of rows returned by a report?

    Hi,
I'm developing my first application in APEX and so far everything seems fine, except I can't figure out this very simple thing: I have a report based on a PL/SQL block returning an SQL string. I'd like to have a message (something like "X rows returned") just before the report. The closest thing I could find was "X to Y out of Z" in the pagination styles, but that's not what I want. Also I don't think running the same query to get COUNT() is wise.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Konstantin

  • How do you limit the number of rows return from query?

How do you limit the number of rows return from query? Do all databases support this kind of feature?

i think the standard is limit
    to get the top 30
select * from mytable LIMIT 30;returns the first 30 rows
also if you want a range
select * from mytable LIMIT 10,30;returns 30 rows starting from 10
this last one is useful for displaying ranges... something similar happens in these forums when viewing topics and messages

    Hi,
Please try the steps mentioned below and check if it helps:
    Open Computer > Local Disk C > Program Files > Microsoft Office > Office 12 > Outlook.exe.
Right click on outlook.exe and click on Properties and then click on
Compatibility tab. Uncheck the box ‘run this program in compatibility mode for’ under compatibility mode, click on Apply and OK.

  • Need to know how to limit the number of rows returned on Oracle

MS SQL Server has a command called 'set row count'.
We are trying to find similar one on Oracle.
What we are trying to do is that instead of using rownum in the query statement, we would like to find way to limit the number of rows returned. I understand that we can use JDBC resultSet object, but that's not what we want.
I know Oracle has one called arraysize, but this would not limit the number of rows returned either.
    Pease help.
    Thanks

I understand that we can use JDBC resultSet object, but that's not what we want.I'm not sure which feature of ResultSet you use and which not.
But if this question has anything to do with JDBC (that's the forum where you put it), I'd recommend to use Statement.setMaxRows(). This will limit the count of rows which your statement will fetch into it's ResultSet.

  • Getting the number of rows returned from ResultSet

    Hi,
Does anyone know a method to get the number of rows returned with a query using the Resultset class?
    Thanks.

    Hi 281080,
If your database and JDBC driver support it, in order to use the solution that da-alexj has suggested, you need to create a 'scrollable' "ResultSet" -- the javadoc for method "createStatement()" (in class "java.sql.Connection") has more details.
However, I have found with Oracle 8.1.7.4 database and Oracle (thin) JDBC driver, that part of their implementation of the "last()" method (in class "java.sql.ResultSet") is to actually iterate through the entire "ResultSet" in order to reach the last row. If your "ResultSet" is very large (I tested it with a 100,000 row "ResultSet"), this will take a long time.
Just wanted to make you aware of that.
Of-course, this may be irrelevant to you since I didn't see any mention in your post of what database and JDBC driver you are using.
Hope this has helped you, anyway.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

  • How to customize the message using HttpSession info in WL-PubServer

Hi, im using Weblogic 10.3 Publish-Subscribe Server (PubServer) in order to create Comet application.
    http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs103/webapp/pubsub.html
We are utilizing JMS Message system to support Clustered environment, and everything works great and as expected, however now we need to support sending User Customized data like (Internationalized Messages, date formatted in user timestamp preference and others).
Since we are posting the payload updates into JMS in a subsystem this 'User Preference (stored in HttpSession) is not accessible'. My goal is to try to put a hook into WL PubServer mechanism that delivers the message to the client(which is attached to an specific Channel) and be able to customize the Data (using HttpSession information) before it gets delivered.
I have researched about this for the past few days without luck, also trying to search information about the com.bea.httppubsub.servlet.ControllerServlet which is the responsible to handle this but again always end in a dead end. I'm starting to think this is not possible at all (at least with the current WL PubServer).
I'll be glad to hear any feedback on this.

  • How-To Display the Number of Records Returned from a List to the User?

We currently are using lists to identify accounts that meet various criteria. Because the territories vary from 4k to 60k customers the users have stated that they don't know the size of the list and therefore don't know if they need to refine the list. Currently they are exporting to Excel to look at the row count to see if they need to further refine their searches. This takes quite a while and while shuffling through many lists is a bit painful. Isn't there a way to just show the total records returned from the list down at the bottom of the screen where it allows you to see 25/50/75/100 records at a time?
There is probably a simple way to do this but it is a large user dissatisfier at the time because we simply don't know how to make this show up. Again we are using lists and not analytics for simple lists at this time.

  • How to remove the buttons which are coming from a report?

    Hi All,
I need to remove the buttons from an iview which is a sap transaction. when i execute the  report program which uses a ldb (PCH) shows a selection screen having all the buttons.
We have created variants for this. Now i want to remove the buttons which are coming from the report program.how to do this ?
    Lakshmi.

    Hi,
I think u r mentioning about the addition buttons that appear in the selection screen when using a logical database. for removing these buttons u can use a function module RS_SET_SELSCREEN_STATUS  for setting ur own pf-status
do this in "at selection screen output" of the program..
in the tables parameter, u have the option for giving the ok-codes that u want to remove. append all the ok-codes into this table.
for getting the ok-codes u can use "tab" and go the button.. press F1. it will give the ok-code.

  • How to control the number of rows selected from a sybase database table?

    Hi, JDBC guru,
I'm working on project using Sybase 11.9.x database. We need to process a record in a table, first select it from the table, then do some computing, finally write it to a dbf file, if the above steps succeed, remove the original row in the table.Quite evidently, all these operation should be put into one transaction. But how can I select just a number of rows from the sybase database table?
    Any hints?

    Hi Harsimran
    Thanks for the reply,
    1) Source view
In  "Source View" i have input field called Customer_no. But,  the end user will not have any idea , what customer no to enter. so i am searching the customer no in the popup view.
    1) Customer_no( This is an inputfiled , to get the customer no from the popup view)
    2) Get Customer NO( This is a button to call the popup view)
"Get Customer NO" This button action will open the popup view.
    In this popup, i have
    1) Input field (To enter the search term)
    2) Search (To seach the customer no based on the search term)
    3) Table ( To display the search data)
    4) Button in Table tool bar called "Select" .( To close the popup view after selected the required data in the table to pass it back to the source view).
so in the popup view what happening is, when i click on the search button itself , it is closing the popupview  by transfering the first row of the tbale ,with out select the required row in the table.
i need to close the window after click on the "Select" button in the toolbar , after selected the required row data to trasfer in the table.

  • How to get the number of rows in a report region

    Hi all,
Is there a way to get the number of rows returned in a report region, without issuing an additional "select count(*) from some_table"?
I mean something like the substitution string #ROW_NUM# but for the total rows.
    Thanks,
    Pedro.

    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17556_01/doc/user.40/e15517/ui.htm#CHDDGGEG
For classic report regions, the region footer supports the following substitution strings:#ROWS_FETCHED# shows the number of rows fetched by the Oracle Application Express reporting engine (the page size). You can use these substitution strings to display customized messages to the user. For example:
Fetched #ROWS_FETCHED# rows in #TIMING# seconds.
*#TOTAL_ROWS# displays the total number of rows that satisfy a SQL query used for a report.*
#FIRST_ROW_FETCHED# and #LAST_ROW_FETCHED# display the range of rows displayed. For example:
    Row(s) #FIRST_ROW_FETCHED# through #LAST_ROW_FETCHED# of #ROWS_FETCHED# displayed>
