How to debug start routine for the custom code?

Can anybody tell me how to debug the start routine? Also could you please guide me where to write the custom code in the start routine.

Thank you for your help. but the blog link that you send it to me does not mention anything about ABAP debugger screen.
What should I do once I get in to the ABAP debugger? the link only tells how to get to the ABAP debugger that I know.
Also it say that I have to use the infinite loop to debugg the start routine.
Can anybody tell me how to debugg start routine with the scren shots please. I don't know how to use infinite loop in the start routine. Is their any easy process step by step to see my particular record behavior in the start routine?

How to debug start routines of update rules from ODS to InfoCube

Dear gurus,
I have an update rule from ODS to InfoCube. I wrote a start routine in the update rule. Now I want to debug it. I went to monitor and simulate update the data package and only got the prompt "No data exists in the corresponding PSA table". So how can I debug this start routine?

Jin,
In order to use PSA between ODS and InfoCube, you may have to use an exclusive InfoPackage and load separately. In that InfoPackage, choose the radio button to use a PSA.
I think you are currently updating the InfoCube directly without using a separate InfoPackage.
Look for an InfoSource under DataMarts (search for 8<ODS Technical name>) and create your InfoPackage there.

How to add F4 help to the custom table field? in the table maintainance when user clicks on F4 i want to provide possible values for this field I am trying to write the code in the screen of table maintainace like the following
PROCESS ON VALUE-REQUEST.
FIELD ZTEST_MAH_F4-KUNNR MODULE zVALUE_kunnr .
But when i am double clicking on module it's giving options to create include program but after that it's giving user is currently editing the table i am not getting this can some body clarify my doubt it's gr8 if some body give some examp code

I am having data in 2 ods and should load that data into cube, but there isn't any common object in both the ods's. I need to analyze based on these ods objects. so I thought of pulling some objects into 1ods which are used for analysis and added some objects to ods and cube. Now I have to write a start routine in update rules to fetch the data from the info objects which are present in another ods. Can any one help me in this?

Extract all info from table BKPF
select * into it_bkpf
from bkpf
where gjahr = p_fisyr.
Select record based on internal table it_BKPF
The reason why FOR ALL ENTRIES syntax is used because of its cluster table.
select * into it_bseg
from bseg
for all entries in it_bkpf
where bukrs = it_bkpf-bukrs
and belnr = it_bkpf-belnr.
Delete duplicate record based on Company Code and GL No.
delete adjacent duplicates from it_bseg
comparing bukrs belnr.

Thanks Chris and c. Under Description I'm presented with three Names for the profile: ASCII, UniCode and Mac Script. ASCII and Mac Script are the same name for the profile, with nothing being in the UniCode Name box. Which do I change -- both?
Am I going to screw things up in Photoshop if I change these names to something I can comprehend? Looks like I may just have to make a sticky-note list of the cryptic profile names with my own descriptive name as a reference. Thanks.

To do that you would have to know what output the XSL should produce, based on the input. You haven't said anything about that. All you have posted is a single XML file which could be either the input or the output of this mythical XSL. Do what Steve said and read the tutorial.

Debugging: start routine in transfer rules

can you please tell me how to debug start routines and field routines in transfer rules?
If possible please tell me too debugging of update rules.

Hi Rajib,
Go to the monitor -> Details tab -> Processing -> Choose the datapackage you want to debug -> Right click -> Simulate update -> Choose eather activate debugging in transfer rules (to debug in transfer rules) or debugging in update rules(for start routine and update rules).
You can mention the number records you want to debug also, if you have an idea of which records you want to debug you can give the number of that record.
Once the debug screen comes up, press F8...the control stops at first break point...from there you can do a step by step debugging (F5).

Start Routine for transfer rules

Hello experts,
I want to use the SQL DISTINCT keyword to return non-duplicate results from a table in a DataSource (data base) in a the start routine for the transfer rules.
How do I address that table in the start routine of the TR?
I thought about something like that.
TABLES: mytable
DATA: itab_mytable type table of mytable
SELECT DISTINCT CUSTID, etc.
FROM mytable into table i_tab.
I am new to ABAP so I would be happy to get some suggestions!

as fa as I understood the entire data package in the transfer structure format is used as parameter (DATAPAK) for the routine.
so I want to perform a SQL statement on DATAPAK!
But it sais it can't find DATAPAK in ABAP-Dictionary as a table!
can I actually perform SQL statements on DATAPAK?

I need to write a start routine for the update rules for an DSO with main idea as follows:
I must compare the record that comes from the infopackage with the record that's already in my DSO. If the X date for the same 0PM_ORDER is the same as one in my DSO - do nothing
If the X date is previous to the X date in my DSO for the same 0PM_ORDER - the new record must be created and at the same time all the records with subsequent(later) X dates for this 0PM_ORDER must be deleted.
If the X date is later than the X date in my DSO for the same 0PM_ORDER - the new record must be created.

There will be an table for each DSO if you go for an manage DSO you will get three table i.e New,Active and Change Log take Active tables date field and compare with the communication structure that comes to routine.
The above example is just an example table will be different from DSO to DSO.

Issues regarding Transporting the Custom codes and Text Elements

I created a custom t-code and had some text elements for my ABAP program in DEV, I transported quality an it worked , but when i transport it production it did not transport the custom code and the text elements. Can u guys give me steps to take for the custom code and the text to be transported sucessfully??

Please check whether the Tcode and Text elements are assigned to the particular Transport Request number. If it is an enhancement that Tcode and Text elements might be there in QA before itself and so this is working. You need to add the TCode manually while transporting the request and transport it to QA and PRD.

I need small ABAP Code in Start Routine Of Update rules Of ODS . Im in BW 3.5 .
I have records like below in first layer ODS and i want to restrict some records while going to second layer ODS ..
ODS1 :-

I want one record in ODS2 for this document number whose EventType = 001 only and date of third record ... like below

So how can i get like this record in the ODS2 which will get data from ODS1 . So i need to write the code in the start routine of the ODS2 .
So please give the me the code for start routine ....

Its difficult in BW 3.5 to include this logic in START_ROUTINE as you cannot add the extra to_date field to the DATA_PACKAGE table.
You need to create a new global internal table with the same structure of DATA_PACKAGE with additional field to_date. then use the logic to fill in the global internal table
define a internal table new_data_package with the required structure like (docno, eventtype, fromdate todate)
data: l_w_datapkg_001 type data_package,
data: l_w_newdatapkg type new_data_package,
data: l_w_datapkg_011 type data_package
LOOP AT DATA_PACKAGE INTO l_w_datapkg_001 WHERE event_type = '001'.
l_w_newdatapkg-docno = l_w_datapkg_001-docno.
l_w_newdatapkg-event_type = l_w_datapkg_001-event_type.
l_w_newdatapkg-fromdate = l_w_datapkg_001-date.
MOVE CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF l_w_datapkg_001 INTO l_w_newdatapkg.
READ TABLE data_package INTO l_w_datapkg_011
WITH KEY docno = l_w_datapkg_001-docno
                 event_type = '011'.
l_w_newdatapkg-to_date = l_w_datapkg_011-date.
APPEND l_w_newdatapkg TO new_data_package
ENDLOOP.
Now the new datapackage contains the ODS2 data that u needed

By inserting a BREAK statement in the routine you won't be able to debugg as the upload process is done in background.
Instead you should insert a code like this:
data flag.
while flag ne 'X'. endwhile.
Then launch the process and go to transaction SM50 select the process and execute Program/Mode -> Program -> Debugging

How to get the PSA name in a Start Routine in the Update Rules of a Cube.

Hi all.
I have an InfoSource that loads data directly in an Infocube.
In the Start Routine of the Update Rules I need to retrieve the PSA table name for that InfoSource, to access it and check some data.
I can't use the PSA name you seen in the DataFlow because it will change once the update rules are transported to another system.
Please advice.

we do it as follows:
first get the request ID:
DATA: tp_request(30) VALUE 'REQUEST'.
FIELD-SYMBOLS: <wa> TYPE ANY, <tp_req> TYPE ANY, <tp_dtp> TYPE ANY.
READ TABLE datapak ASSIGNING <wa> INDEX 1.
IF sy-subrc <> 0. ABORT = 4. ENDIF.
ASSIGN COMPONENT tp_request OF STRUCTURE <wa> TO <tp_req>.
IF sy-subrc <> 0. ABORT = 4. ENDIF.
requnr = <tp_req>.
then we get the table with
SELECT odsname_tech FROM rstsodspart WHERE request = requnr.
you may need to adjust this code, I've just pasted the relevant parts...
another way is to get this info from RSTSODS where the different versions are maintained...

After testing the issue in my local environment, I can reproduce it. Based on my research, I find this issue is caused by the type of Units_VAR_Percentage cell is string, while the type of CDbl(Parameters!Var_Threshold.Value) is double, so they cannot be
compared.
To fix this issue, we can add a hidden column (Textbox91) next to the Units_VAR_Percentage column, and type =(sum(Fields!TY_UNITS.Value)-sum(Fields!LY_UNITS.Value)) /sum(Fields!LY_UNITS.Value) as the expression. Then use the expression below to control the
BackgroundColor:
