How to deploy prime infrastructure template on selected interfaces/ports

Hi,
So I manged to create an port grouping (all ports which start with the description ACP)
And I also managed to create a CLI-template with the a DB variable setup (see http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/net_mgmt/prime/infrastructure/2-0/user/guide/prime_infra_ug/create_temps.html#60783)
My template:
#foreach ($interfaceName in $InterfaceNameList)
interface $interfaceName
     switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
     switchport trunk native vlan 3
     switchport trunk allowed vlan 3-8
     switchport mode trunk
#end
But when I deploy this template it will apply to all the ports on that switch, I can't apply only to the ports in the port group
Is it possible to fix this somehow?
I can think of 3 ways:
Use other menu than Deploy -> Configuration Tasks -> <select template> -> deploy..., Which is the correct one?
Make an new DB variable which only select ports which start with the description "ACP", but I am on the dark how to create such a DB variable, I know I need to edit /opt/CSCOlumos/conf/ifm/template/inventoryTagsInTemplate/CLITemplateDbVariablesQuery.properties but I can't find the syntax/field description
Use an "if construction" in the cli template, something like #if(${description} == "ACP" ...., but how precisely?
Who can give me any tips?
Thanks,
Emiel Witteman

Thanks for the reply.  Im aware that there are still gaps between LMS and Prime, I didn't see the ability to push a config to a port group as being a compliance feature, but I see what you are saying.
What I don't get though is that your link (thanks again) bears no resemblance to the config/admin guide section in Prime.  Which in fact was in the NCS docs too (I haven't gone back any further to check).
If its not supported then that's bad enough, but for Cisco to document what seems to be an NCS/Prime specific way to do this and leave it in when it doesn't work really is appalling.
Im still hoping Cisco finally make a management tool without major gaps in it...  :-(

  • Cisco Prime infrastructure template undeploy

    Hi,
    I am new to cisco prime, I have create the new Trap receiver template and deployed to one of the wireless controller and saved the deployment
    Now I want to undeploy the templates, When I tried undeploying the templates for same wireless controller, I got the warning message stating "Failed to undeploy the template"
    Please advice on below points
    1. How to undeploy the templates in cisco prime infrastructure
    2. Where to find the snmp traps ( steps to check the snmp traps) in cisco prime.
    Please Help!!!!!

    Using System Logs
    Prime Infrastructure logs all error, informational, and trace messages generated by all devices that are managed by Prime Infrastructure.
    Prime Infrastructure also logs all SNMP messages and Syslogs it receives.
    You can download and email the logs to use for troubleshooting Prime Infrastructure.
    Step 1 Choose Administration > Logging. The General Logging Options Screen appears.
    Step 2 Choose a Message Level.
    Step 3 Check the check boxes within the Enable Log Module option to enable various administration modules. Check the Log Modules option to select all modules.
    Step 4 In the Log File Settings portion, enter the following settings. These settings will be effective after restarting Prime Infrastructure.
    Note The log file prefix can include the characters "%g" to sequentially number of files.
    Step 5 Click the Download button to download the log file to your local machine.
    Note The logs.zip filename includes a prefix with the host name, date, and time so that you can easily identify the stored log file. Included in the zip file is an html file that documents the log files.
    Step 6 Enter the Email ID or Email IDs separated by commas to send the log file.
    Note To send the log file in a mail you must have Email Server Configured.
    Step 7 Click Submit.

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 Alarms (switch port down)

    We have a cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 managing switches, routers and AP.
    By default, when a port of a switch goes down, the cisco Prime Infrastructre generates a Critical Alarm for that. (this is a problem, because every phone of laptop disconnection will generate a critical alarm for me)
    I found out that if we go to Administration --> Alarm Severity --> Link down, I can change the Alarm from Critical to another type of alarm.(ex: warning)
    The problem is that I want to keep the Critical Alarm for my Uplinks ports and for some important switch ports, and I would like to make the alarm as warning for the normal user ports.
    I know that I can create Port Groupping and add ports to each group and apply monitoring templates on those groups. But This couldn't Help me solving my alarm problem.
    So I just need to know how to manage the alarms severity for each group of ports.
    Thank you

    Hi,
    Same problem here.
    I am using Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 (evaluation version for 60 days). I want to deploy port monitoring for my trunk ports between switches and some other important ports e.g. servers. Basically I want to get alarms when these ports are down, there are errors on ports and etc.
    So in Design>Port Grouping I created User Defined group with important ports. In Deploy>Monitoring Deployment I selected Interface Health (default)>Deploy selected Port Groups and when selected port group I created.
    Now the rule shows Deployed: Yes and Status: Active. After that I just pulled out one port which was in monitored group, waited 5min as it is set in Interface Health (default) template, and nothing happened, and worse, alarms started to show up of other ports where regular users are connected (computers was turned off), which I do not want to see at all. I tried redeploy template, I even created my own template but still no desired result.
    Any suggestions how to make port monitoring work?

  • Prime Infrastructure - alerting only trunk interfaces?

    a very important NMS customization option is to decide which interfaces are important and which not for alerting...
    How is this possible in PI?
    I want to differentiate between important uplink ports and e.g. unimportant client ports - and as a consequence receive no emails for unimportant interfaces.
    In LMS this was possible via Bluk jobs disabling monitoring for certain interfaces.
    Is this possible in PI?
    Thanks in advance!
    BR.herwig

    Thanks Rob for your prompt answer
    I wonder how the "Port Group" Feature plays into the Alarming Part of PI.
    What if I disable "Auto Monitoring" and create(design) port groups containing only important uplink ports...
    Now if I receive a Interface down Trap from a Switch client port,
    does PI still trigger an alert, despit I previously disabled "Auto Monitoring" in System Prefs?
    Or in other words: Are Port Groups only used for performance monitoring or also used for alert notification?

    When I try to deploy it on the router 1800 IOS Version 12.3(14)T7 all is going well and the report I get the following:

  • Prime Infrastructure importing templates

    Hi all,
    We have an existing WCS setup (7.0.240.0).
    I have built up a Prime Infrastructure server running release 1.3.0.20.
    Originally I was going to look at migrating our existing WCS configure but the two stage process (WCS -> NCS -> Prime) looked prone to errors. Dediced to skip it and concentrate and building up from blank slate.
    The only exception was the floorplan maps for Wifi, I was able to export these straight from WCS to Prime without any hicups.
    I then added our main WLC and assigned the APs to the correct maps.
    Sweet!
    Now I would like to get the templates going for our WLCs as i have a couple more to deploy. The issue is that I dont want to manually configure templates in Prime. WCS had the ability to import templates from an existing WLC, a goldern WLC config. I cant seem to find any doco indicating this ability. Anyone come across something similar or another way I might acheive?
    Cheers
    Chris

    From the Classic Theme:::

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 config deployment (no copy run start)

        I have deployed some CLI templates I have created to configure multiple local accounts on some switches. However the cli templete only appears to accept conf t commands, it will not accept 'write mem' or 'copy run start' at the end to save the altered running config to startup. this results in running and startup being 'out of sync' in the configuration archives, and runs the risk of a power failure causing the config to revert back to startup. Does anyone know how to ensure the altered running config is saved to startup during the config template deployment?

    I don't know if this has been fixed in 2.0 or not.  By the looks of the bug it hasn't.  However, there is a workaround-

    Prime Infrastructure - No option to save running config to startup
    Conditions:
    Prime Infrastructure 1.2/1.3
    Workaround:
    Create a Configuration Template that runs either:
    "do write mem"
    Or for devices which no longer support "write mem", use:
    "file prompt quiet
    do copy run start
    no file prompt quiet"

  • Prime Infrastructure - Custom SNMP Template

    Hi,
    Has anyone managed to get the Custom SNMP Template to work in PI 2.x? I can't get it to present any relevant data (yes, with generic dashlets).
    I've tried to pull CISCO-ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB and other third-party MIBs with no luck.
    I'm starting to suspect this is yet another not-so-ready-feature of PI....
    Regards,

    Hi All,
    This feature does work..
    hope you are following the correct steps:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/net_mgmt/prime/infrastructure/2-0/user/guide/prime_infra_ug/create_temps.html
    For your reference  ,check the verify you are doing all the steps:
    Step1:
    Design > Custom SNMP Templates  > Create the Template
    step 2: Design > Monitor configuration
    select the template
    Name it and other settings...
    Step 3::Deploy >Monitoring Deployment
    Select the template > click Deploy
    select the devices or group of devices.....
    Step 4:
    Home >Detail dashboard > Devices
    click > Add dashlet  > device dashlet >> click Gereric Dashlet (configure the generic dashlet by selecting the right template)
    Hope it will help
    Thanks-

  • Prime Infrastructure 2.1.1 cannot add more than two interfaces in Dynamic Interface Controller Templates

    Cisco Prime Infrastructure is a damned nightmare of browser bugs (some features work in IE8, some in IE9, and some only in Firefox).  And I am not sure if what I am experiencing is a browser bug - or a real bug - or something that I was able to do before and can't any more?  I would love for someone to either explain why this is happening to me, or reproduce the bug!
    I'm running Prime 2.1.1.  I am doing this ...
    Configure > Controller Template Launchpad
    System > Dynamic Interface
    Select a command > Add interface (GO)
    Enter all the properties - roll to the bottom of the page, and click Apply to Controllers
    I have four controllers.  And normally I would add an interface for each controller.  But I can only create two out of the four.  It doesn't matter which two I choose.  When I click Add under Manage Interfaces for the third controller, I cannot click the Done button to apply it (see screenshot, attached).  I have found that if I change the VLAN to something else, it will let me save it.  But ... why?  I went back and reviewed all of my existing interface templates and I am not doing anything different.  Although, they were all created a long while ago using WCS 7.x.
    Any help, guidance, or confirmation of insanity would be appreciated.
    -Steve Ballantyne

    I doubt I will get any hits on this here but I always try.  I opened a TAC case.  I will come back and comment on whatever they find.

    This is by no means a full solution, but deleting and re-adding only takes a few minutes if you use the "Export Device" and "Bulk Import" features from the Device Work Center. You can export the desired devices to a CSV file, delete them, then import from the CSV.
    Of course, you might lose historical data when deleting the devices, but I'm guessing that's not as relevant since the devices themselves have been replaced by different hardware.

  • Prime Infrastructure - CLI Template - SmartPort Macro

    I'm hoping that someone can provide an example of a CLI Template for deploying a SmartPort Macro in Prime Infrastructure 2.0. I've tried multiple formats and can't seem to get it to work.
    Macro to be configured:
    macro auto execute TEST_MACRO {
         blah
         blah
         blahdeeblah
    Example 1 Template:
    #INTERACTIVE
    macro auto execute TEST_MACRO {
    <IQ><R>
    <IQ><R>blah
    <IQ><R>blah
    <IQ><R>blahdeeblah
    <IQ><R>}
    #ENDS_INTERACTIVE
    The above example runs successfully, however it does not actually produce a result.
    Example 2 Template:
    <MLTCMD>macro auto execute TEST_MACRO {
    blah
    blah
    blahdeeblah
    }</MLTCMD>
    The above example fails with the following result:
    Error : Exception while sending interactive commands to device, Expect timeout: Failed to match expected device output due to Expect timeout current timeout 60000. Current output : > >blah >blah >blahdeeblah >} mc-t307-acc06(config)# Current expects : blah blah blahdeeblah \}
    I'm sure that all my troubles stem from '>' result that is sent to the CLI after each line of the function is entered, however I can't seem to work around the problem.
    I've tried many more combinations without success... Any help would be appreciated.

    Instead of
    #INTERACTIVE
    macro auto execute TEST_MACRO {
    <IQ><R>
    <IQ><R>blah
    <IQ><R>blah
    <IQ><R>blahdeeblah
    <IQ><R>}
    #ENDS_INTERACTIVE
    Try
    <MLTCMD>
    macro auto execute TEST_MACRO {
    blah
    blah
    blahdeeblah
    </MLTCMD>
    This works for me.
