How to deside weather to write local interface or remote interface

in Ejb 2.0 the concept of local and remote interface is introduced.then how to deside weather to wrire local interface or to write remote interface.

Here in lies the problem. That decision shouldn't be up to a developer, it should be the role of the deployer who decides this. I think they got this wrong in 2.0, its been put at the wrong level. You as the coder need to make scalability decisions about the deployment, which you shouldn't need to. One of the big stengths of the EJB's is that anyone can code them because the container does the hard work for you. That paradigm has been broken now, IMHO.
Having said that, I was at a SUN developer day just the other day and they suggested that the local interface was mainly for fine grained entity beans and that the course grained entity beans would access the fine grained over local interfaces thus allowing a 'cheaper' implementation of relationship modeling in the entity bean layer. In this scheme of things you would then use the remote interface from session beans to access the course grain entity beans.

Hi,
from what I gather, u have two jars
1. EJBClient - this will have remote and home interfaces and will be used by the client
2. myEJB - this iwll have all the classes - remote & home interfaces, the bean class and all the other classes required by the bean.
Now, the question is, who is acting as the client of your EJB ? There are 3 possibilities
1. A servlet
2. Another EJB
3. a simple java program.
In the first 2 cases, you can go for Local Interfaces (more so in the second case than the first). The reason being that the the client and server will be in the same JVM. Thus, in the first case, if the Web container and the ejb container are in the same app server, EJBs can be local.
However, in the third case, it is unlikey that you will have the client runnng and the same jvm as the server, because the server is using the jvm provided by weblogic.
Thus, you cannot use local interfaces in this 3rd case. I have a feeling that this is what you are doing. If so, change the local interfaces to remote.
See if this helps. Else, I will mail you some sample code. But I am afraid, sample code wont be of much help bcoz this seems to be a design problem.

Weblogic 10.3.2 EJB3 Local Interface in POJO/Helper classes

I have a jar file containing all EJB's in application & some Helper classes. I want to access Local interfaces of EJBs in those helper classes. Is there any way I can do it? I've gone through Maxence Button & Jay SenSharma 's blogs about accessing Local interface. but it doesn't help. May be these two guys can help me more here.. My requirement is very simple. Just to access local interface in POJO/Helper classes that are in same JAR file as EJB's. I can't get reference with @EJB class level annotation as Helper classes are called independently from MBean services.. not from any EJB or Servlert.
Please if anyone can tell me how do I get reference of local interfaces, that would be really good.

RPC web service session beans and local interfaces

I am wondering if it is possible to use EJB 2.0's local
interface (vs remote interface) with 6.1's RPC web service
session beans. Since WLS generates the SOAP servlet that
invokes the RPC session bean and I do not find
a way to some how tell SOAP servlet to use local interface to
get the session bean's local home interface, I am not sure
this can be done.
Any comments would be appreciated.

My session implements both the local and remote interfaces, so in my client, when I look up the remote interface using the following code, I did get a reference
          processor = (IItemProcessorRemote)initialContext.lookup(IItemProcessorRemote.class.getName());but if I also look up the local interface in th eclient using this:

How use a proxy consumer web service in ABAP Program with local interface

I generate a proxy class based on a WSDL file.
I want to use this class in an abap programm without a connection but using XML files in local.
I see with the class CL_PROXY_LOCAL_ADAPTER that it is possible to execute without connection but for use this, it's necessary to use the method REGISTER.
This method have two parameters : Class Name and Interface Name.
Class name is the name of my proxy class, but I don't know how to find the interface name.
I think that a local interface is needed to generate but I don't know how to generate in interface with entries in SPROXSIG table ?
Could you help me ?

How local interfaces work in EJBs

How exactly local interfaces work in EJBs and how should I use them ?

They are simply non-RMI interface implementations that directly delgate to the EJB's implementation. They are called and in turn call the EJB just as you would call any normal class.
As such, there is no RMI or serialization overhead and the interfaces can include methods that update their arguments, something not possible in remote interfaces.
Generally speaking, you should define local interfaces for all entities as one seldom if ever would access entities remotely. You might even consider defining ONLY local interfaces for entities, but that is a tougher call.
You would define local interfaces for session EJB's that are invoked by other session EJB's within the same container. I would normally always define both local and remote interfaces unless there is some reason why I can eliminate one or the other.

I have one ear application which is using Stateless Session Beans. I don't have any Bean to Bean communication . At present, the client is invoking remote methods thro Home/Remote interfaces. My doubt is , shall I implement EJBLocal home/ local interface to obtain this same functionality cos, in this app, both client and EJb bean have been deployed in same JVM. Can Local interfaces only be applicable to Bean - Bean relation ship?If LocalHome/Local interfaces can be implemented in my scenario, then may I know how will be the ejb-jar.xml and weblogic-ejb-jar.xml?

Local interfaces are for communication between ejbs and their clients when both are in the same JVM. The clients can be normal clients, jsps, servlets, and other ejbs. If the client is not in the same JVM you cannot use local interfaces even though your client is another ejb.
Advantage of using local interface is it reduces the network overhead.

How can I put the contents of an array into a set of write local variable clusters?

I have a set of controls that a user fills in. The controls are clustered by rows, then combined into a 1D array, then written to a file. When I read the file, I want to feed the array back into the clusters with write local variables. Is there a simple way to handle the numerous local variable clusters so I can stuff the array back into them?
Is there a better way to handle the whole issue of storing and recovering the information?
The rows are steps in a procedure, and each row (cluster) contains numerical as well as string controls.

There are many ways of doing this
You may convert all your data to strings and save as an ascii file (you have to pay attention to the file format, so you can read it properly.
Or you can use the configuration vi's, it may work in your case.
or you may use an invoke node to get all controls of the vi's, save it, then read it, without worrying about any format. I have attached a vi that uses this method.

Learning to write user interface

Dear All,
With zero experience in writing LV user interface, we needs to write a User-Interface program for end-user data entry of "structured command script" (text with specific keyword_command)
Basically, we need to have the LV equivalent of some basic window commands, like
list box for user to select one from several keyword_commands
push button to 'enter' 'save' etc.
radio button to select options (like inch vs. mm)
a graphic plot showing the 'execution' (like the x-y grid inspection (template).vi in the motion find-example)
drop down menu (like File in windows)
Grateful pointers for beginner's learning resources on user interface.

Depending on your version, all of these things exist in the LabVIEW palettes, you just have to place them on your front panel. Just look through the different palette, since there aren't many palettes. If you want controls which look like the MS ones, go for the Dialog Controls palette, which uses OS specific controls. The tricky bit is the menu, which can be controlled through code, or from the Edit menu.
After placing all things on your FP, however, the real trick is connecting the code to those things. Here is a standard passage I provide to beginners (although I don't know how much of that applies to user interface):
To learn more about LabVIEW, I suggest you try searching this site and google for LabVIEW tutorials. Here and here are a couple you can start with and here are some tutorial videos. You can also contact your local NI office and join one of their courses.
In addition, I suggest you read the LabVIEW style guide and the LabVIEW user manual (Help>>Search the LabVIEW Bookshelf).
You can try searching this site for a presentation called "the good, the bad and the ugly", which deals in UI design, but is not a tutorial. You can also try the LAVA forums UI board (I believe they have one), but read what's there instead of bombarding them with questions. Above all, this will have to take your time. You can't write an LV program without learning LV (and that's relatively easy).

Local Data Address Does not belong to any of this hosts local interfaces

I cannot get through this exception while running

I get this debug output:

10.8.0.6 is on my tun0 interface, I also tried with 192.168.1.100 which is on my eth2 interface but always get the message in the subject. The only address I can init session on is loopback address.
I use code that looks at local interfaces and grabs ip address from one of them so I'm sure the assigned address belongs to one of my interfaces.
Anybody knows how I can solve this problem?

I solved this one. The problem is JMF seems to use InetAddress.getAllByName() which returns (at least in my case) only single IP address no matter how many addresses I have defined on my interfaces. The problem was solved by placing my IP address that I wanted to use by session manager into /etc/hosts. It must be the first line in /etc/hosts otherwise the other row that matches is used.

JBoss and local interfaces (JNDI)

I'm trying to do simple example involving local interfaces on JBoss.
There is Bar remote interface, which uses Foo, local interface. And the problem is - i cant locate Foo within Bar:

Question: how do i map local interfaces within JBoss to some human-readable and predictable name?

update:
specifying JNDI names in jboss.xml does the trick, but i still dont understand why JBoss ignores local-ref element. So anyone who can explain is welcome.
