How to detect machine is on network

Hello World,
I want to make button enable only if the laptop is connected to a network as soon as user disconnects, button should also get disable.
How can I detect that my machine is on network in Java application. And how should I
trap the event when it is disconnected or connected. Does system tray�s LAN icon by any means going provide me any help, if yes then how to use that.

Both will work. If your computer is not connect to
the network the ipconfig gives minimal details with an
address like 0.0.0.0.
Take you PC off the network and run ipconfig to see.
what it does. I don't think this command will tell
you the network has gone as quickly as polling a
server but the ipconfig can give you a server to poll.
e.g. the local DHCP/DNS/WINS serverThanks. Good to know.

    Sorry that I have to ask this, but your problem seems very Windows specific and I doubt it can be done in Java without the help of native code. What kind of application are you developing?

    I have installed Oracle Application Server 10G Release2 without IDS (Developer) on my server. I put my application forms & reports on the same machine(APPSERVER) and run the application as follows:-

    My Application runs well. But i want to use the 'Pass_3_1.fmx' form from other machine's(SERVER) network folder as below:-

    I am not able to launch my application. It throws error 'Cannot read form \\server\pass_3_1.fmx'. I also tried mapping on F:\. But it didn't work.

    I don't understand exactly your problem but I tel you that your application mast be reside in the application server and the URL to call your application shouldn't change:

  • Time machine restore from network drive kernel panic

    I had a late 2013 macbook pro 15" retina, I was backing up with time machine to a network drive (western digital my cloud). All of my backups are there and the data looks valid. In April I ended up selling the macbook pro, then recently I bought another one and attempted to restore from the network drive.
    I chose the option to restore on boot from network device, it properly detects and lets me browse my previous backups. I choose restore, the restore will run for a few hours and then reboot with a kernel panic.
    panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff00184c0ac1): "Unable to find driver for this platform: \"ACPI\".\n"0/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-2422.90.20/iokit/Kernel/IOPlatformExpert.cpp: 1541"
    I've tried a few different backups, one from April, one from march...both result in the same error. Any ideas why this would happen?

    Time Machine full system restores only work if the backup disk doesn't need drivers separate from Mac OS X to mount. To make a long story short, you CAN'T do a full system restore with the disk your backups are on.

    I figured out how to connect Time Machine with a network drive (like LaCie Mini). It works great, the only thing is, everytime I restart the mac I need to re-connect manually to the server in order TM can run.
    I wondered why OS X gives not the option to connect to certain servers AUTOMATICALLY when starting up?

    PLEASE can you tell us how you figured out how to backup to a network drive because Apple tech told me you could not do that!
    To your question though, on those LaCie drives, you have to log in with a password, right? On the drives I have used with clients, although the password was filled in for me, we had to press OK every single time to actually connect to the drive... I could not bypass the login procedure on the drive, it had nothing to do with OSX. You might serve yourself well to see if LaCie can offer you a way to connect to the drive automatically?
    Although I know nothing about scripts, could you just get a script to run automatically at startup to connect you to that drive?
    I'm interested in this topic so please feel free to share what you know and your experience with it. Thanks in advance.
    I was also frustrated to find out that I couldn't even back up via Time Machine to a drive connected via USB to my Airport Extreme... I mean come on!

    Depends on where you are. Most all hotels/motels have wireless. There are Internet cafes, libraries, Starbucks, and many other places providing WiFi service.
    In your iPad's Network settings you will usually find displayed all detected wireless systems. Not all of them may be usable unless they provide free access or you have a paid access membership. You should find this discussed in the user manual:

    I tried getting the device list on my system but the following code is not returning any devices (deviicelist is empty) ? When I look at my Device Manager on Windows7 machine, I see there is 'High Definition audio device' . Does anyone have a clue why/when would this happen ?

    Be on same network, apple id with homesharing on for ATV and Mac or iOS.  Always try a reboot of router and ATV with all cables out for 30 Seconds too.  Mirror icon should appear near clock IF you have a mid 2011 mac or newer (early 2011 for MBP) AND are running OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion or newer.
    Oler mac or OS can 'mirror' with a third party app called airparrot.

    APBS is usually called AEBS or Airport Extreme Base Station.

    ipads do not backup like macs.. there is no time machine.
    ipads backup to itunes or to icloud. The backup to local itunes can then be backed up by TM to the disk you are using.
    Please note even though Apple now says it works.. I have seen reports where the old problem has come back.. it works for 6-8weeks and then the backup corrupts itself and you have to start over.

    your client will have to
    1) start up when the machine does
    2) make a TCP/IP connection to the server as it starts up
    when the server gets a connection from the client, you can query the relevant Socket object for the source IP address
    a simple 'google' for java socket tutorials, or a search of the Sun site will show you more quickly and definitively than anyone on a forum
