How to determine how long dbms_job jobs take to execute?

I have a number of dbms_Jobs (snapshot refresh jobs created automatically by creating the refresh groups) and I'm required to determine how long the jobs are running to verify some timelines. I was hoping it would be as easy as recording the last_date and next_date frequently and when there are changes, use the delta to determine (since the jobs are supposed to be scheduled from the completion of the previous job) but this doesn't appear to be working. I created a simple job that just sleeps for 15 seconds with an interval of 5 minutes, and (next_date - last_date) is always 5 minutes. What I would have expected was
Job starts at 00:00:00 (last_date)
Runs for 15 seconds, ends at 00:00:15
Scheduled out 5 minutes: 00:05:15 (next_date)
In that example next_date - last_date would be 5:15, and knowing the interval was 5 minutes I could determine it ran for 15 seconds.
In practice though the current next_date becomes the next last_date (as if the interval is being calculated when the job starts, not completes), so it always shows 5 minutes which is just the interval.
Short of not using the default jobs, and just submitting my own to do the refresh where I add some logic to record the duration, is there a good way to get this information? I'm using 10.2.0.4.
Thanks

Did you check out the TOTAL_TIME column of the DBA_JOBS view?

  • Measure how long a code take to executes with System.currentTimeMillis()

    hi,
I have this piece of code
    start = System.currentTimeMillis();
// other statetments here, that needed to be measured in time
    end = System.currentTimeMillis();
System.out.println(end - start + " msec to run");is that the right way to do it?
there is also a static method from System class nanoTime(), what is the different? (the api doc is a little difficult to understand cause my english is bad)
with currentTimeMillis() as solution I get one time 16 ms and another time 32 ms for the same piece of code,
and when I put a for loop (like 16 times doing the same thing) around the statements that I want to test, there where times that I get runtime as 0 ms,

That works, but you'll want to
    * Make sure that what's between the two curentTimeMillis calls takes at least a second. (100 times the resolution of most system clocks)
    * Run the entire thing in a loop a hundreds or thousands of times and look at at least the average, and possibly the min, max, mean, and std dev.
    * Understand that your CPU is doing other things besides running your Java program, and even when running your Java program, the VM is doing other things besides executing those statements, so that the time is likely to vary from one execution to the next.
    * Understand that hotspot interprets code for a while, and then compiles it, so that the first 10,000 iterations may take longer than the next 100,000.

  • How long does it take to run execute dbms_stats.gather_dictionary_stats

    Hello,
How long does it take to execute dbms_stats.gather_dictionary_stats? I need to run this prior to upgrading 10.2.0.2 aix to 11.2.0.2. I like to know how long it takes to execute because this is a very busy Production system and I do not want to take too much resource and db time from a busy Production system. Thank you.

I guess that is when Resource Manager comes into play:

  • What is the average duration of 1 full SAP life cycle or 1 end-to-end implementation. How long does it take to prepare DEV, QAS and PRD?

What is the average duration of 1 full SAP life cycle or 1 end-to-end implementation. How long does it take to prepare DEV, QAS and PRD in any company?

    Anand,
let me start with saying that the question you ask may not help you to determine the duration of your project. As Ryan and others stated the duration of the project is highly dependent on the scope of the solution you are implementing, geographical scope, amount of modifications/enhancements, number of languages, number of users that need to be trained, amount of standard processes customer is able to re-use in the implementation and many other factors (like quality of implementation contractor you will chose and availability of customer and implementors resources). I can probably go on for another couple lines, but I guess you get the idea.
With that out of the way let's talk about some example implementations that will give you an idea - Ryan did great job outlining what I would call traditional approach above. I have couple examples where customers leveraged innovative deployment strategies that are available today. In particular the project teams leveraged pre-packaged services like RDS, World Template or Best Practices as their baseline solution and they built from there. Second acceleration technique customers now leverage is the deployment in the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud to accelerate the time to initial setup of the system and thus move from traditional blueprinting to scope validation exercise that further shortens the time. There are other acceleration techniques we see applied in some cases like use of iterative implementation of the delta requirements on top of the baseline solution.
Let me offer few examples to illustrate what I explained above:
ERP implementation at Schaidt Innovations with 3 months long deployment of ERP solution using ERP RDS as a baseline (you can view their testimonial here - Schaidt Innovations: SAP ERP on HANA in the cloud - YouTube)
Customer in Asia with global template deployment that leveraged SAP ERP for Manufacturing with deployment to cloud and 9 countries rollout (Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, UK, Germany and US). The initial deployment took 4 months for first country and 2 months for rollout into the additional 8 countries - so total of 6 months. The original plan using traditional approach with full blueprint and heavy configuration was estimated to be more than double of the actual deployment time.
There are many other examples where customers follow the assemble-to-order delivery model for their project and gain significant benefits doing so. I suggest you to review some of the recordings we did in 2013 about this approach and if you are member of ASUG review the Agile ASAP sessions we did for ASUG PM SIG.

  • Time machine migration, how long does it take?

Im going to migrate to another mac using time machine, how long does it take (time machine/main hdd in the old mac was at about 700gb capacity)

There is no way of determining that. The time is dependent on a number of different factors.

  • How long should it take a well-qualified server admin to migrate from Tiger to Lion...

How long should it take a well-qualified server admin to migrate from Tiger to Lion...
For a small company, if the Tiger server is running on a G4 Tower:
    -Roughly 500GB in user files
-Data resides on old-school ATA drives
    -OD Master - Kerberized
    -AFP
    -Mobile Homes
    -DHCP
    -DNS (for 2 domains)
    -FTP
    -iChat
    -Mail (non SSL)
    -NetBoot
    -Print Server
    -SWUPD
    -VPN
    -Hosting website using MySQL
    -User & Computer Management
    Considerations/Hurdles/Challenges:
-Tossing old G4 into garbage, upgrading Mini client to Snow Leopard, adding Lion iMac client to the LAN
-Fresh OS installs on the Mini and iMac
-Upgrading from CAT5 to CATE on the LAN (not it the walls - just loose cables)
-All new hardware must be sourced out (take some time to price compare)
-Must find a way to transfer data from ATA drives to SATA drives or Lion Server
-Company must not have any email downtime (MX Records to be modified on DNS Providers site)
-Servers hostname goes from "companyserver.company.com" to "server.company.com"
    -ISP blocks some SMTP ports
-DNS Provider doesn't support TSL/SSL SMTP
-Implementing a switch into the network
-Implementing a new router (for firewall and NAT) from ISP
    Upgrading to Lion Mini Server
    -All the same services
    -Using SSL
-Implementing Mobile Device Enrolment and Deployment
That should just about cover it. I'll add any other details/hurdles as they come to mind.
Can you guys give me your best guesstimate as to how many hours you think this job should take? I'd appreciate any feedback as to how long you guys think it'd take you to make this transition. I'm trying to plan, and we're going to be down-and-out, the boss NEEDS to know for how long.!
    Thanks in advance guys!

It's about a gigabyte, so if you have a slow connection, it might take some time.
But - you shouldn't be getting the beach ball - that's a different thing.
Can you do open Activity Monitor, or is it stuck completely?

  • DFSR - This member is waiting for initial replication for replicated folder SYSVOL Share - How long should it take?

Yesterday we were forced to perform a non-authoritative sync of the SYSVOL folder as replication had stopped because one of the DCs had been disconnected from it's replication partner for more than 60 days (caused by a unexpected shutdown and we did not
pick up on the fact replication had stopped until now).
I performed the non-authoritative sync of the SYSVOL folder and now the folder is in state 2

    'NO_CLIENT_SITE:'. The first word after this string is the client name and the second word is the client IP address. The maximum size of the log(s) is controlled by the following registry DWORD value 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\Parameters\LogFileMaxSize';
the default is 20000000 bytes.  The current maximum size is 20000000 bytes.  To set a different maximum size, create the above registry value and set the desired maximum size in bytes.

Apple has placed a temporary authorization amount hold in my card for repair. My old iphone has been received by apple. how long does it take to release the amount?

How long it takes depends partially on your bank. Once they release it, it could take several days for the authorization to roll off of your account. It is generally not a problem unless you're using a debit card, which will lock the funds in your checking account and make them unavailable, which I presume you did or you wouldn't be worried about it.
This is not unique to Apple. That's a problem when using debit cards for any purchase.  Several years ago, when gas prices spiked to $4 a gallon here, gas stations would routinely authorize and hold upwards of $100 every time you tried to pay at the pump. Created some major headaches for the working stiffs just trying to get to their jobs and pay the bills.

    Hi Katie,
Where are you looking on your phone to determine how much storage you now have? Are you looking under Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup?
If so, and it still doesn't show the correct storage, try resetting your phone. Hold down the Home and Power buttons and continue to hold them down until the Silver Apple appears. Then check your storage again.
    Post back with questions!

  • How long did it take you install BI Apps for HR & Procurement?*

    Hi:
This is just for a straight install with DAC, but no DFFs, no custom reports, no custom dashboards, etc.
Ideally, I'd like an estimate of how long it would take to configure a DFF, and what your experience is.

now here it says apple will fix this for free, so i scheduled a genius appointment for Monday, this guy here says apple just replaced the entire logicboard, how long should it take?
also how can Apple verify that i have the same problem?  (I'm pretty sure it is the same problem)
I saved one of the error logs in a text file, maybe that should help.

  • "How long does it take to do a dist-upgrade on your distro?"

Yesterday there was a question in the USALUG.org "How long does it take to do a dist-upgrade on your distro?"
This question was a good question, so I decide to make the ultimate test. I have a lot of computers standing here around, and remembered that on one of them was have already Archlinux installation. I was right, when I booted, the system check said me, that the system was 253 days not checked anymore. I got so excited that I forgot to check was it one of my 0.7.2 Gimmick or 0.8 Voodoo installations.

How long does it take to do a dist-upgrade on your distro?
    one hour

After reboot the system loads all new applications with out any problem. Later I replaced the intel-video driver "xf86-video-i810 1.7.4-6" with the driver xf86-video-intel 2.2.0-2. No problems at all.

definitely. By contrast, here's a regular upgrade on my debian box -- out of the blue it's having some problem with one of the packages, and it's turning into a regular recursive nightmare.

It's so "delicate" and temperamental compared to the no-nonsense, straightforward approach of Arch. If one little thing is off, the entire system has a hissy-fit and won't do anything until you hunt the internet high and low searching for a solution, encountering all the debian hawks along the way who are ready to rip your head off at the first suggestion that debian isn't directly from god and could have a problem. Imo, Arch is the best linx distro hands down. Nothing else even comes close.
