How to disable flash in firefox 16.0.1 using about:config or some configurable way

We have some legacy codebase which uses a older version of firefox(16.0.1). I am struggling to find preferences to disable add-ons in firefox 16.0.1
Can some tell me the about:config configuration to disable add-ons for firefox 16.0.1
P.S:- Upgrading firefox is huge task, so avoiding it for now.

Open the Add-ons Manager by
Pressing the '''Alt''' or '''F10''' key to bring up the tool bar.
Followed by; '''Tools > Add-ons.'''
Hot key; '''<Control> ''(Mac: <Command>)'' <Shift> A)'''
On the left side of the page, select Plugins.
BTW; At the top right is a link to check your plugins.

That button doesn't have a pref associated with it, so you can't disable that button with a pref on the about:config page or a lockPref call.
That only leaves the choice to remove that button with code in userChrome.css

Despite my Javascript for Firefox 23 being "enabled" ( I checked re the "about:config" steps), some websites are still asking me to enable my Javascript to view content. Safari works without any problem. OS/X 10.8.4

These files are hidden to me because my OS/X is 10.8.4 and I cannot make them appear. This is way, way more trouble than it's worth. Thanks for your help. Firefox has lost me.

  • Flash content is making my Adobe Acrobat X to crash (how to disable flash in the PDF documents?)

    Hello
I have Adobe Acrobat X, and I have a PDF document of around 700 pages. Inside, I have several pages I've downloaded from different websites, some of these pages have flash animations (I mean adverts with flash), when I click in a certain page of my PDF document that has a flash animation inside, booom it crash automatically.
How may I disable flash in my PDF documents?
    Thanks

Realistically you can't. Flash is enabled in the Acrobat X Family via embedded code, as it not only runs content within a PDF but also runs several elements of the user interface, such as the Share Pane.
If you know of a particular PDF file that is causing crashes, please submit it via a bug report.

  • How to disable hidpi on FireFox 22

I whish to know how to disable hidpi

It's a mess. Respecting dpi or not, a lot of websites look broken now because they're zoomed in! The user doesn't care why, he just sees it's wrong. No one but developers and Geeks would have a clue why.
Make the activation optional, what is Mozilla thinking? This will backfire...
For everyone who wants to get rid of it in the mean time, go to the Firefox config (about:config) and change the value:
    layout.css.devPixelsPerPx -1.0 to
    layout.css.devPixelsPerPx 1.0

  • Help enabling gnash and disabling flash in Firefox

This is a "Further woes with..." thread, following on from https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=164901. In that episode, I managed to watch a youtube video by installing the gnash plugin and gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg, disabling the flash plugin in Firefox and enabling the gnash one.
Now, however, I find that gnash is disabled as well as flash. Moreover, if I enable gnash, flash is also enabled. If I disable flash, gnash is also disabled.
Disclaimer: I use a Firefox binary from Mozilla because I cannot otherwise use my preferred interface language. However, Firefox (/usr/local/bin/firefox which is linked to the binary in /usr/local/lib/firefox) has no problems using Arch plugins installed at /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins. I also have icedtea, kpartsplugin and djview (though I forget why I have the last).
The plugins are definitely there according to both pacman and ls /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins.
Does anybody have any idea why Firefox insists it must be either flash and gnash or no ash at all? I realise I could just uninstall flash but I'm reluctant to do this unless I really have to as it is handy to be able to enable it quickly if necessary. I just want to keep it disabled so Firefox etc. picks up gnash. (Actually, Firefox should default to gnash given my settings for mimetypes in preferences but that doesn't seem to be effective.)

That is interesting, flahsplugin doesn't work at all?  That is strange, and not the first time I have heard that.  It makes me wonder then why you want to keep flashplugin installed on your computer if it doesn't do much.
If you are willing to open a different browser to watch youtube videos, chromium seems to handle these plugins quite well.  I actually have, ATM for testing here, flashplugin, pepper flash, and gnash.  I was able to enable each one by one, and it seemed to be doing what I wanted it to do.
Besides that, I actually keep pepper flash set up for chromium all the time.  I actually find it to be pretty superior to flashplugin, though it doesn't change my opinion that the world needs to move away from flash content more quickly.  It is in the AUR and is very easy to install.  As long as you don't have anything set in /etc/chromium/default, the install script will set eveything up automatically for you.  If you do have something there (I keep the cache in tmpfs with --disk-cache-dir=/tmp), then you just need to edit the file and clean it up a little.  It gets the quoting all wonky.

  • I tried to use Duck Duck Go as my default search engine for Firefox. I had google set as my default search engine. How do I fix it. Cant use about:config.

Duck Duck go won't even let me access About:config. It's like I am locked into Duck Duck go. I checked my add on manager and found nothing about Duck Duck Go there. I ran a scan on Malwarebytes Pro for any kind of virus and found nothing. I really want google as my default search engine. So far I managed to get Firefox as my main search engine. Any help would be appreciated.

What do you mean that it won't let you access the <b>about:config</b> page?
Can't you open the about:config page via the location bar or can't you modify prefs?
You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

  • How do I change Default search engine in the address bar, not the search window on the top right or by using about:config, doesn't work. Worked fine until this FF 8.0 update, now defaults to Yahoo 7. About to throw it in and use Chrome.

When Firefox 8.0 installed it has automatically changed my address bar default search engine to Yahoo7 which is crap. I can not change this back. So when I start FF it opens to my google home page, when I type a subject and search the results are displayed in a Yahoo 7 results page, not google. I am not talking about my default home page or the search bar to the top right. This is still google.
The settings in about:config do nothing.
This was fine until FF 8.0.

    Thanks dmcritchie,
Nice effort but that answers a different question about fixing the add-on Yahoo toolbar.
Pernich and I want to know; If you type search criteria directly into the address bar and hit enter, how to change that search engine from Yahoo to Google.
Otherwise I too will go back to using Google Chrome, even though I really like FF8.0
    please help
