How to disable pulseaudio (temporarily) to make pSX work

I can't get the emulator pSX to work as it fails with the following error message:
[src/linux/sound.cpp, line 215]: 'snd_pcm_hw_params_set_access(pcm_handle,hwparams,SND_PCM_ACCESS_MMAP_INTERLEAVED)' returned 'Invalid argument'
Google told me I need to disable pulseaudio, but I don't know how. I tried the command "killall pulseaudio" and using a task manager and killing the task, but it starts up whenever I load pSX and this in turn causes (or at least I think it's causing) pSX to fail. I don't want to uninstall pulseaudio if it can be avoided. Any suggestions?

You'll have to figure out what process is spawning pulseaudio repeatedly.
Let's assume you're using gnome. I'd try running 'gnome-session-properties' and then unticking "PulseAudio Sound System". You may need to restart gnome-settings-daemon, or failing that, log out and log back in.
I'm sure that there's something analogous for other environments.

If none of your third-party apps are working, but the Apple built-in ones are ok, then try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted. In terms of re-downloading apps then you can do so as long as they are still available in the store, and you use the same iTunes account as you originally used to buy them, then you should be able to re-download them for free : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
For synced photos, then with the iPad connected to and selected on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes, then on the Photos tab on the right-hand side you can control which photos are synced to the iPad : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236 . If you don't want any photos to be synced then try selecting just an empty folder.

How to disable email temporarily for presentation?

Hi everyone,
I'm giving a presentation (with Keynote) in an hour. The last time I did this, Apple Mail opened automatically while I was giving the presentation, which was hilarious for all except me! I'd like to avoid this if possible, obviously, today.
I think it may be because I have iCal events that give me reminders.
I've set Mail preferences to only check email manually, and gone into System Preferences --> Accounts and deleted the iCal reminder thing there. Is there anything else I can do?

Sometime when running a Keynote presentation's, I'll make a new user account. So that the unexpected (something popping up) doesn't happen.
Then you don't have to set/reset you main user account. And Keynote will run a little better this way.

How to disable pulseaudio?

I had to install pulseaudio without actually intending to use it as a dependency for spice-gtk. I'm not sure if it's only a build dependency but that's for another topic.
I'm using KDE only with gstreamer backend. I found this topic on the issue, but the proposed fix - editing /etc/pulse/client.conf didn't have any effect.
I'll be happy to provide any additional information that may be necessary.

afaik, iM doesn't profit that much of more'n more RAM,
I think 1GB is a good compromise for your demands&wallet...
a better CPU increases speed dramatically,
G4, G5, dual, quad, Intel... in that order...

i hav an applet that needs to write a file to onto local system resource. i came to know that the applet needs to be signed. so i searched some guides to create a signed applet but most of them specify how to use it with applet viewer and not on a browser. plz help me with how to sign an applet and and allow it to write a file from within a browser.

How to disable FF & TB auto-switching to Work Offline?

FF3.6.x,
TB3.1.x,
Always ON BB connection through Cable Co.,
WinXP is set to NEVER go dormant automatically (Manual shutdown only)
After some indeterminate period of inactivity, both FF and TB switch to Work Offline mode. Both start up online. This is a (several times) daily occurence. I don't find an obvious config setting. How do I stop this irritating behavior?

If you want to revert to the previous secure version, do the following. 
Go to [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html Download Firefox v3.6.17] and download it to the desktop. 
Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to "Mozilla Firefox" and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (don't checkmark the box). 
Then reboot and delete the folder called "Mozilla Firefox" at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox 
Finally run the installation file you downloaded to the desktop earlier. 
Your bookmarks, customizations etc., are maintained in a different location and will become available to you again once you complete the installation.

No because there is a micro switch built in the output port that tells the audio to use that output.
1. Most times the broken jack can be removed with the correct size drill bit or small screw extractor because it is hollow. (shutdown and disconnect the power before attempting to remove the broken jack plug)
2. If you do not have the correct tools to do the job, then take the iMac into your local Apple Store or AASP and have the broken plug remover.

How to disable pop up Make Adobe Reader my default PDF Application in registry

I am wondering if there is a registry setting that can disable the pop-up Make Adobe Reader my default PDF Application ?
I have seen there is a setting under Edit\Preferences\General\"Tell me if Adobe Reader is not my default PDF Application" but cannot find a registry setting to disable this. This message pops up for some users in a remote desktop session host environment even though I have disabled the messages on the session hosts.

Thank You for posting on the forums. Kindly try the below mentioned steps and check ,if it helps.
1) launch adobe Reader
2) Click on Edit>Preferences
3)Go to General under Categories
4) Click on "Select Default Pdf Handler"
5) Choose adobe Reader
After performing this workflow, you might see an installation window. do not worry, it is just a new configuration of PDF handler being updated in the system.
