How to do following restore?

Database A;
One full backup finished at 10 am
one differential backup finished at 11am
one transaction log finished at 11:45 am
I need to restore database A to 11:30 am
So how I do restore:
1) Restore full backup at 10am nonrecovery + restore transaction(11:45am) stop at 11:30 am recovery
or
2) restore full backup at 10 am nonrecovery+ restore differential(11am) norecovery +restore transaction(11:45am) stop at 11:30 am recovery
1) or 2)?
What is relationship between differential backup and transaction log backup?
I know first transaction log backup with backup changes between transaction log backup time and full backup time
Then next transaction log backup will backup changes between it and its last transaction log backup. Correct?

Do you mean:
2) restore full backup at 10 am nonrecovery+ restore differential(11am) norecovery +restore transaction(11:45am) stop at 11:30 am recovery
is incorrect to do restore that I need?
No it is not incorrect but will take more time ,when doing restore or tryin to to DR test you always choose way to recover data faster.SO 1 will let you recover data faster
So transaction log backup at 11:45 am is to backup changes between 11:45 am and 10 am(full backup time) or between 11:45 am and 11am(differential backup)?
Transaction log backup Includes all changes from previous full backup (if it is taken just after full backup) or from previous transaction log backup (if more than 1 transaction log backup are taken)
Seen lots of question from you on DR and recovery. Please read below link ,will surely help you

  • How to do following restore? Full backup takes long and transaction backup in the middle. Thanks!

One database starts to run full backup at 10am. Full backup finishes at 11:45 AM
transaction log backups every 30 minutes: 10:00am, 10:30am,11:00 am , 11:30 am and 12:00 PM
    At 1:30 PM
I need to restore database back to 12:00PM.
    So I should restore:
    1) Full backup at 10:00 am + transaction log backup 10:30am+ transaction log backup 11:00 am +transaction log backup at 11:30 am + transaction log backup at 12:00 PM
    or
    2) Full backup at 10:00 am + transaction log backup at 12:00PM
Because full backup starts at 10:00 am and ends at 11:45 am, I am not sure 1) or 2) should I choose.
Please let me know which one is correct--1) or 2) .Thanks

alternatively you can make use of
    RESTORE HEADERONLY FROM <BACKUP_DEVICE>
database backup has LSN number information in te backup header, and last LSN will help you to locate next log backup in
    sequence to be restored.

  • I have lost my system preferences following restoration of harddisc

I appear to have lost system preferences following restoration of my hard drive I have looked everywhere and whilst the dropdown box under the Apple logo apears to have it nothing happens.  Can anyone suggest a solution

How Restore Deleted or Missing OS X Components
A few of the basic OS X installed applications can be restored from the Optional Installs installer located in the Optional installs folder on your Installer DVD.  However, if what you need is not there then follow the instructions below.
How to Use Pacifist to Restore Deleted or Missing OS X Components
Insert the OS X Installer DVD into the optical drive.  Use a simple utility like TinkerTool to toggle invisibility so you can see invisible items.  Alternatively, open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and at the prompt enter the following:
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles Yes
    Press RETURN.
To turn off the display of invisible files repeat the above command substituting No for Yes.
The install packages are located in the /System/Installation/ folder on the DVD.
Download the shareware utility Pacifist. Use it to extract a fresh copy of the missing item(s) from the file archives on your OS X installation DVD. The file archives are in the /System/Installations/ folder (use Go to Folder option in the Go menu of the Finder.)
Here are Four Basic ways to use Pacifist (courtesy of George Orville.)
Drag a .pkg icon onto the Pacifist window .....proceed to step 7.
Click on “Open Package ....” and navigate to package desired and click “Open” in the open/save window.....proceed to step 7.
Insert Mac OS X installer CD and when it mounts, navigate to .... Menu->Go->Go to Folder. In the path field enter or paste ....
/Volumes/disc name/System/Installation/Packages (where disc name is the name of the CD/DVD that you inserted.)
Click on the  "Go" button ..... • Drag a .pkg to Pacifist..... proceed to step 7.
The package you'll need will have to be discovered by trial and error, but for most applications you should start with the Essentials.pkg and/or Additional Essentials.pkg.
    D. Insert your Mac OS X install disk 1 .... and open Pacifist.
    1.          In Pacifist, select "Open Mac OS X Install Packages" ... dialog may appear asking for disk 2, then disk 3 and finally disk 1 again.... {if DVD is not used)...If “Stop Loading” is selected...the procedure will stop!!!
2a. When loading is complete, a new window appears, click the triangle to display contents of each package...Select item and proceed to step 7.
2b.          or click the “Find” icon in the Pacifist window and type the name of the software you need.
    3.          In the list that comes back, click the top most entry for the item that you want. ..... that is the one for the English language.
    4.          On the top of the Pacifist window, click “verify” .... you will probably be prompted for your password.
    5.          Enter checks for.... “verify permissions” and “verify file contents.” and click “verify” ....enter password when prompted.... you will get back output which may look like this:
20 files were scanned. 20 of 20 files were present on the hard disk. 0 of 20 files had file permissions that did not match those specified in the package. 0 of 20 files had checksums that did not match those specified in the package.
    6.          Click “close”. Go to step 7.
    Extract or Install........
    7.          In the Toolbar (upper left), you now have the option to extract or install. Click a file in the lower list and those two icons will be enabled.
    8.          If “Extract to...” is selected.... navigate to the location where the file will be placed, select “choose”, select “extract” in new dialog that appears, authenicate , if prompted, click “OK”.
    9.          In the next dialog, click “Extract”.
    10.          If “Install” is selected... dialog will appear with the location/path of the installed software. Click “Install”
    11.          Type in your password, click “OK”
Pacifist will begin to extract files.
    12.          In steps 8/10ß.... you also have the choice to “cancel”
Notes:          Pacifist may find that a file it is installing already exists on the hard disk. Pacifist will present you with an alert panel....
    Stop
    Leave original alone
    Update .....
    Default selection
Replace .... (Replace option should only be used on full install packages)

  • I inadvertently removed the junk mailbox from Mail.app in SL, how can I recreate / restore it ?

    Hi,
Well, the title says it all : I inadvertently removed the junk mailbox from Mail.app in SL,
it still is spresent in my ~/library/mail folder, how can I recreate / restore it in mail.app ?
Since I have a fair number of email accounts, intelligent mailboxes, rules and archive folder, I really don't want to rebuild everything. And, no, I can't use time machine to restore it.
All help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi AdamKB, sorry for late follow-up.
What I lost is the "container" that groups all junk mailboxes in one place in Mail, like is done for all the inboxes.
The problem is that I lost visibility on all junk mailboxes. It is only a visibility problem because the junk mailboxes are still present locally for my POP accounts and remotely for may IMAP accounts, I justdon't see them anymore in Mail's interface.

  • How do i reset/restore computer to factory settings???

how do i reset/restore computer to factory settings???

Follow these instructions step by step to prepare a Mac for sale:
Step One - Back up your data:
           A. If you have any Virtual PCs shut them down. They cannot be in their "fast saved" state. They must be shut down from inside Windows.
           B. Clone to an external drive using using Carbon Copy Cloner.
              1. Open Carbon Copy Cloner.
              2. Select the Source volume from the Select a source drop down menu on the left side.
              3. Select the Destination volume from the Select a destination drop down menu on the right
                  side.
              4. Click on the Clone button. If you are prompted about creating a clone of the Recovery HD be
                  sure to opt for that.
Destination means a freshly erased external backup drive. Source means the internal
                   startup drive.
Step Two - Prepare the machine for the new buyer:
              1. De-authorize the computer in iTunes! De-authorize both iTunes and Audible accounts.
2, Remove any Open Firmware passwords or Firmware passwords.
              3. Turn the brightness full up and volume nearly so.
              4. Turn off File Vault, if enabled.
              5. Disable iCloud, if enabled: See.What to do with iCloud before selling your computer
Step Three - Install a fresh OS:
         A. Snow Leopard and earlier versions of OS X
              1. Insert the original OS X install CD/DVD that came with your computer.
              2. Restart the computer while holding down the C key to boot from the CD/DVD.
              3. Select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu; repartition and reformat the internal hard drive.
Optionally, click on the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
              4. Install OS X.
              5. Upon completion DO NOT restart the computer.
              6. Shutdown the computer.
         B. Lion and Mountain Lion (if pre-installed on the computer at purchase*)
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because
it is three times faster than wireless.
              1. Restart the computer while holding down the COMMAND and R keys until the Mac OS X
                  Utilities window appears.
              2. Select Disk Utility from the Mac OS X Utilities window and click on the Continue button.
              3. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click
on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
              4. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on the Security button
and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
              5. Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
              6. Quit DU and return to the Mac OS X Utilities window.
              7. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
              8. Upon completion shutdown the computer.
*If your computer came with Lion or Mountain Lion pre-installed then you are entitled to transfer your license once. If you purchased Lion or Mountain Lion from the App Store then you cannot transfer your license to another party. In the case of the latter you should install the original version of OS X that came with your computer. You need to repartition the hard drive as well as reformat it; this will assure that the Recovery HD partition is removed. See Step Three above. You may verify these requirements by reviewing your OS X Software License.

  • How do I even restore it when it's died?

When I connected my iPod to the computer today it doesn't show up either in My Computer or the Source List. There's been once a message popped out saying my iPod is corrupted and asked to restore. But the iPod now seems like it's died somehow - "Do not disconnect" is on the screen for hours but not blinking. I forced to eject it and reconnect for times but it's still dead. How do I even restore it??

    Hi Laurencelau,
Try forcing your iPod into disk mode. To do that, follow the instructions in this article:
    Putting iPod into disk mode
With the iPod in disk mode, connect it to your computer.
If you can successfully get your iPod recognized in iTunes, try restoring it.
If that doesn't work to get the iPod recognized, then try the first four steps here:

    Hi Dottie83,
The extraction of files should not take more than a few minutes. Please cancel and retry.
In case you still face issues consider redownloading the package again.
Alternatively you can try downloading from the direct download links available at : http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cs6-direct-download-links.html
But make sure you follow the important steps mentioned on the page before initiating the download.

  • User (?) issue following restore.

Hey folks.  My HD was failing, so I replaced it.  When it was failing, it was running 10.8.5.  It was loaded with Mavericks when I got it back.  I restored using my external time machine drive.  Following restore, I upped Mavericks to ver 10.9.1
It seems to be running fine, except I noticed that when I try to save a file off the web into a folder on the desktop, it won't work.  The folder is highlighted, but when I click save, it grays out and puts the file on the desktop, not the folder.  Later, I can click/drag it to the correct folder.  My old user name was replaced by a new user name, which is the old user with a "1" added to the end.  In that folders "get info" box it shows my old/deleted ID with Read/write privleges, but not the new "1" ID.  Don't know where to go with this.  I posted recent history in the next paragraph.
When I first got the computer back, the restore seemed to go fine.  The tech advised me to restore via the migrate utilitity, he said to not select the "computer and network" settings, the 3rd checkbox on the restore screen.   I was having trouble getting connected to the internet, so thought perhaps I should go back and restore that network file anyway.  When I went back into the migration app, I was advised there was an issue (but not what issue) with my user id and that I needed to restore it before I could do anything else.  I went ahead and selected that.  After about 30 minutes, the slider indicated "less than a minute left."  I let it sit on "less than a minute" for an hour.  I couldn't find any way to break out of it, so I finally shut the machine off.  When it came back up, it was a basic desktop with none of my stuff on it.  I did another full restore.  It seemed to work fine.  At that point, MY original user ID was there, and a second ID which was my original ID with "1" added to the end of it.  It seemed apparent after a few days that the computer was using the "1" ID and not the original.  I deleted the original ID, because everything on the drive was duplicated and caused the new drive to be almost full.

    Do a backup.
System Preferences/Users & Groups - try renaming the new user with the old user name (remove the 1). See if that helps. If not under Login Options, set to Automatic Login and restart. See if that helps. If this gets everything straightened out, you can set it back to login however you choose.

  • How do I follow up on an Adobe transaction?

Hi. I paid for InDesign on the Adobe website yesterday after the month free trial. The money went out of my account this morning. To date, I have received no mail from Adobe.I don't want to have the program delivered, obviously I just want the certification code. But now that I've checked on my profile at Adobe, there is no record of a purchase!!! How do I follow up?

This is a user forum and not a direct channel into either Adobe Customer Support or Adobe Technical Support.
Please call Adobe Customer Support directly. They are the only organization that can assist you. Make sure you have all relevant information about your transaction when you call.

  • Great, patient customer service this evening. No complaints - except, I requested a transcript of our chat and none was sent (yet). How do I follow up on that.

I requested a transcript of my chat with a CSR this evening...She was great, patient and helpful - but has yet to forward the transcript!! How do I follow up and get the transcript.
In the conversation, I requested that we lower our $122/mo bill, since we have 1 smartphone (with 2Gig) and 1 dumb phone with no data and only 1000 minutes of talk and 1000 shared text messages. I stated that my Hubby has unlimited everything for $25/Mo. She offered 250 Meg and same minutes/text for $65. I did not say anything - but I was insulted at the excessive cost of a dumb phone (with 7 months left in contract) and almost no data for an old smart phone (not in contract). Does ANYONE else charge that much?

Hello there acraftlady..... congrats on your personal plan. Even though you are paying double what I am paying for the same service, I suspect that you are still happy and can afford the cost. That is a great savings over Vzn - but no where near the best that you can do! If you have a contract for your services....PLEASE read no further.
If you copy and paste http://www.discountfanatics.com/cheapest-cell-phone-plans.html  into your web page, you will find MY service provider (rated #1, by the way) along with 5 or 6 others.
Please note, if you DO not have access to wi-fi, then these plans are a bit less desirable - but still about half of what you are currently paying.
I used to have about 80% coverage with Vzn in my home...I now have 100% with my new provider.
I used to NOT have data with Vzn cause it was too expensive...I now have unlimited data - EVERYWHERE I travel.
To compliment my provider, I have yet to pay the full $25 per month - because I get a $20 credit everytime a person whom I referred to my provider signs up...BOTH get a $20 dollar credit.  In otherwords, I have been paying (for 3 months now), $5 per month for unlimited everything on my MotoG (#1 or 2 rated smart phone).
Just wanted to share that you have done great!! and you can do better!!
Your son and hubby can do $10 per month each for unlimited everything (data via wi-fi only).
Congrats on your progress - and looking forward to you doing even better!
    Jim

I inadvertently deleted the source tunes from my iMac.  How do/can I restore them from my iCloud account?

    Welcome to the Alpple Community.
Your iCloud account doesn't have anything to do with iTunes. With iTunes in the cloud you can redownload tunes you have purchased from iTunes (select purchases from the list of options in the top right hand corner of the iTunes home page.
If you have iTunes match you can redownload all your tunes by clicking the cloud icon at the right of each listing.

I need to find out how to get it restored. I can send screen shots of all of the drive location where the drive is still good and I can see my Adobe Acrobat pro information, but the download itself is missing. NEXT STEP?

If you are talking about Reader (you did post in the Reader forum), then just download http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise. However Reader is free not purchasable. You can download a trial then install using your serial number, which if you didn’t register or write down somewhere you will be out of luck to track down.
