How to edit with a second camera?

We are using one camera to record our church services.  It was suggested we could get a second camera and then edit the video from the two cameras into one sequence.  Since I just started to use PP CS5 to do the editing from the one camera, I am not sure how that would work.  I have seen the final product that others have done, but would like a quick overview of what needs to be done in PP.
By the way, we have a AVCHD camera that saves the video to an SDHC card, so will assume we will get a similar camera for the second one.  Also, we take the audio from our sound board and it goes into the camera, so is part of the recording.  Should I also assume that the audio should only be recorded onto only one camera?  Sorry, lots of questions - any help to get me started?

Premiere PRO can easily handle the editing of two cameras or many more and really your question as to whether to get a second camera depends on creatively what you want to do.  If you are shooting someone speaking or playing a piano, having two cameras gives the ability to have one possibly shooting the person from the front, and then the second may be being farther way from the side going simultaneously.  That way when you are editing you can switch between the shots from each camera angle to give some style.
To edit it is simple.  Import your footage from each camera and then drop the footage from one camera into one timeline and then drag and drop the footage of the second camera into the other  timeline.  Whatever is in the top layer or timeline is going to be what you see, so if you want something in the lower timeline to show you will have to make sure nothing is above it.  This is a very simple approach to get you going.
I'm assuming that you do not have much equipment from your question and you are just starting out. So the next step you will need to do is to synch up the sound on your clips from one camera with the other as best you can.  But if you are going to be doing a lot of this, you want to do some homework and study up as you will want to have your cameras synched up with timecode and you will want to be shooting with this in mind and investing a few bucks is well worth the cost.
Good luck.

  • How to edit with different formats of clips

Hi, I am sorry to as this question, I should know the answer but just ain't sure. I am making my reel and I have a bunch of stuff that is dv dvcpro NTSC and that is what the sequence setting is set to. 29.97 compressor is DV DVCPRO-NTSC. However, I have some footage that is DVCPRO HD 720P60.
When its in the timeline the preview sure makes it look awkward, quality loss. What is the right thing to do here. Also, all my NTSC footage is 4:3, but what does my FC sequence register it as a NTSCDV (3:2) and not NTSC 4:3. Although it looks fine, I just want to understand my timeline settings. Thanks and hope to hear from someone.
Also, can anyone point me in the right direction to learn how to deal with editing footage with different frame rates. For ex, some 29.97 footage, 23.98/24 Thanks

what i am concerned is : will there be any problem in future while transporting to different environments?
and why it is showing 'segment version' in attribute in Trace in sxmb_moni....
any inputs will be help full....
    Thanx in advance.

  • How to Edit with Multiple People - HELP

We used to be a small, 1-guy editing operation. But now we are huge (joke) and have 3 guys doing editing on an ongoing kids program.
I need some help with how to effectively edit the same program with 3 different people editing.
I assume that it's impossible for all 3 editors to edit the same project file simultaneously, right?  That would be ideal as long as each person is working on a different scene, but even then, I'm sure it would introduce all kinds of problems.
So I'm left pondering the best way to edit one large program (1-hour in final length) between multiple people.  The best method I've come up with to this point is to split my project up into 5 individual PP projects broken down by general scene categories.
That way each person can work on the "same" project/episode, but yet be working off of separate files, thus avoiding syncing problems.
But this only seems like a bandaide to our situation, especially if we bring on a couple more editors in the future.
Any suggestions on working on the same project/episode at the same time between multiple people?

There was a recent thread on similar issues.  I don't have this situation (one man shop), but one aspect of the "import sequences" to a master gets my attention.  I was starting to do this for my own projects (e.g. a season's worth of ball games where you want to do individual gamnes as well as a highlight of the season).  One project for it all gets rather complicated, and it seemed simple to import key sequences into another project.  But...
    A) This is not a dynamic link, but an import.  The whole project (or whole sequence(s) your choice) come in, inside a new bin.  changes in the other sequence are not updated in the master, so you need to be finished in the imported sequence - or be prepared to import again and redo any transition work.
    B) When you import, even though all the clips are from a shared pool, Premiere creates new instances in the imported bin.  Even if you offline and relink (so you don't literally need multiple clips on disk), they are still multiple instances in the bins.  As long as you don't plan on using work on clips in other sequences/projects, it really won't matter.  But, for example, if editor A adds markers to Clip 1 in their project, and you import their project to the master project, Clip 1 in editor B's project imported to the master will not hve the marker set by editor A,
All logical really, but it limits this as a workaround to making Premiere work as a shared editor.

  • How to edit with non-interlaced playback - for square pixel art?

I'm working with PNG sequenced images from Flash. I'm compositing in AE and I export an QT movie in "Animation" compression, 100% quality. The exported movie is as 'clean' as a Flash swf. This becomes my source movie for Premiere CS3.
When I bring my scenes to edit in Premiere CS3 I can't figure how to set up the project so the the final out-put is non-interlaced. I want the quality of the final movies to be as clean (non-interlaced) as my source movies.
I would like to work in non-DV format since my source movies are made from square pixel art (Flash & Photoshop). This process works great in Premiere 5.1, is it possible in CS3?
I work on PC - XPpro

    Jim,
Thank you for responding to my post. My question is can I edit and output in Non-DV format (non-interlaced video) with CS3?
I mentioned using Flash because I wanted it to be known I was starting with square pixel art. My final goal is to make DVD movie. I use Premiere to edit the scenes. I work in animation, some traditional hand drawn, painted in Photoshop, and some Flash generated. My end results needs to be a high resolution QT movie.
I've been using Premiere 5.1 and for years (Premiere 4 before that). I would like use Premiere CS3, but I need to export without the interlaced video. Can this be done in Premiere CS3?

  • How detect objets with an Ip camera?Need ideas about my project.

    Hello,
I work on an project of an camera IP fixed on a robot. The camera come on a fixed way. When an object is placed on this way the camera detect him and stopped the robot.
I wonder me because that try to define that I need to do. That we need is to calculate the distance between the camera and the object and when this distance become very little = 2 cm for example, the robot stopped. But with an camera I don't think that is possible to calculate the distance.
An second option is to use an detection of objects. On this solution, when the robot come on may be it recognized as an object because if the camera detect an movement when the robot come on there is all times an movement.
Have you ideas of the problem, What sort of way can I Take.
    Thanks

  • Interlacing lines on second camera "capture"- how do I deal?

    OK- two cameras:
First one is a P2 media using Panasonic HVX201 shooting in 1080i/50i. It was logged and transferred fine.
Second one is a small Sony Handycam DCR-HC96 shooting interlaced widescreen which, when viewed in preview, prior to capture, is really scarily lined on any movement.
Before I capture- IS there something I need to consider when importing this to ensure that I actually have USABLE footage for the edit (as I am overlaying the two clips I cannot really work with that much "distortion" to any degree of accuracy)?
What setting should I use for Final Cut Pro to be "happy" with the second camera's footage?
I am so used to FCE which sensed the camera and picked its settings. Now I am stuck with having to fiddle about for it all to work at all. I am a complete novice and just don't GET the whole principle but as always- just need for me to be able to edit footage from two different cameras into one video.
I'd use Final Cut Express but the P2 media dictated that I move on.
    Please help me. Thank you!

Thank you. I haven't captured yet. I am seeing these lines prior to capture. I thought I might avoid issues for myself by dealing with it before proceeding with the capture (I HAVE done the transfer of the P2, yes).
I just did a little segment of the SD footage to test, I had closed down the application, redid some transferring of P2 files and I actually no longer see the interlacing on anything.
I appreciate your time on helping me get to grips with this (I don't know what happened to make the problem I posted about "go away" but that it is- gone) because it is pretty scary when I realise what a novice I am.
I would like to go up in resolution, really. I had no choice with the second camera as I had less than 10 minutes to make a call to use it or not. But the footage is important so I feel I owe it to the HD footage.
What I am seeing when putting the wee bit I did capture as a test over the HD footage on my sequence is that they are OK- both are 16:9 (I used to have the issue that I couldn't get the college Panasonics to actually shoot anything but letterboxed and my Sony does widescreen) so that is a good start.
Other than that only there is slight delay on the audio and the rapid arm movements of the actress are a bit blurred. This may be my inexperience with FCP and the new MacBook Pro. I never saw any of this with FCE.
    Thank you!

  • I shoot .nef with a D800e and am learning to edit these in Photoshop Camera Raw.  How to save edits?

I shoot .nef with a D800e and am learning to edit these in Photoshop Camera Raw.  What is the best way to save for viewing and printing and sending to friends on a DVD? (TV viewing)  If I save edits as a tiff or jpeg does Photoshop remember the edits if I open the .nef picture again?  Do i really need three versions of each picture?  jpg, nef and photoshop raw, or what??    I have several thousand .nef and to convert to a photoshop raw format would take much disk space and yes I have three external drives of 1 - 3 TB.
    What is my best practice?

For that Nikon model you need ACR 8.3 that means CS6 or CC.  Or you can download the DNG converter convert your Nikon RAW files to Adobe RAW files. And then process the Adobe RAW files with CS5 ACR version  6.7

  • How do I save a dvd (with video from a video camera) to edit with imovie?

A friend took videos of an event of mine with his video camera. He then put the clips on a dvd and gave it to me. It was recorded on with a Sony video camera and imported on to a pc with vega's then burned with DVD Complete. He was not sure what format he put it in but maybe something like video_TS.BUP. When I open it up from my desktop it has a audio TS and Video TS folder. When I try to open one of the video folders it goes to iphoto and says unrecognizable format. So does he need to save it to different format and what format would that be. I want to put those clips on my mac to edit to make a movie. I have the newest macbook with the newest imovie. Thanks for all your help!

DVDs are encoded into MPEG2, which iMovie cannot edit. So you need to convert the DVD back to something else. For highest quality, I recommend that you convert the DVD to Apple Intermediate Codec. There is a free tool called MPEG Streamclip that will do this. You will also need to install the Apple QuickTIme MPEG2 Playback Component.
    Here are the details.
    1) Download and install the Apple MPEG2 QuickTime Component ($20) - available online from Apple.
    2) Download and install MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5 (free).
    3) Start MPEG Streamclip
    4) Insert your DVD into your Mac. If DVD Player or Front Row starts automatically quit those.
    5) Open a Finder window. Navigate to your DVD to the Video_TS folder.
    6) Drag the .VOB files from the Video_TS folder and drop then into MPEG Streamclip.
    7) If MPEG Streamclip offers to fix timecode breaks, say yes.
    8) Use FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME to convert the files to Apple Intermediate Codec (or h.264 if you prefer)
9a) Optional: You can deinterlace your footage in this step, if you like
9b) optional: If you know the date and or time of the footage, name your file
    clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss
(let mpeg streamclip provide the extension). This will provide metadata that iMovie will use to put the event in the right year and month.
9c) Optional: If you don't want to make one huge clip out of your DVD, you can make smaller clips by using MPEG Streamclip. Move the cursor to the "in" point of the clip, and press i. Move the cursor to the "Out" point of the clip, and press o. Then do steps 8 through 10 and repeat until you have done this for all clips you want.
    10) Save the resulting file in a place where you can find it, like your Desktop.
    11) Open iMovie.
    12) In iMovie, choose FILE/IMPORT/From File and choose the file you saved in steps 8, 9, 10.
    13) iMovie will generate thumbnails and you can edit.

  • I uploaded pictures from a second camera and my iphoto created a second library, how do i get back to the first library?

I uploaded pictures from a second camera and my iphoto created a second library, how do i get back to the first library? Can anyone help?

I have no idea what you did or what happened - but I can assure you that loading from a different camera does not create a new library
So you need to supply information and someone here will assist you in sorting this out and figuring out what you really did
What version of iPhoto do you have? What version of the OS? Why do you think that a second library has been created? What do you see when you launch iPhoto with the optipon kep depressed and use the select library option? Where is your iPhoto library normally?
Anything else you can tell us that might help?

  • How ACR works with in-camera controls and ADR (Nikon D-lighting)

After using Bridge for years, exploring more intense in-camera color and ADR controls in my D700 has revealed something I did not know and wonder if there is a solution:  Seen in the Bridge thumbnails, the photos show the effects of the in-camera settings, but when I click through to camera raw, the photos lose it, no color effects.  How can I retain the in-camera choices in Camera Raw and thus in the save files in tiff which I prefer for working files.  Thanks for answering what must be a very basic question.

The answer is actually very simple, Gary:  What you are seeing is perfectly normal, expected behavior.  It is as designed, and you cannot change that.
Those in-camera settings you reference apply exclusively to JPEG images, not to raw image captures.
What Bridge is showing you is not a rendering (conversion) of the raw image data, but rather the JPEG preview that is embedded by the camera at the time of recording the image and to which the camera does apply the camera settings.  Depending on your Bridge preference settings, a new preview will be created once you apply your changes to the file.
Adobe Camera Raw is not designed to emulate the conversion performed by the camera manufacturer's software, whether in-camera or otherwise, but to preserve the entire range of characteristics of the image and offer you absolute control over the entire rendering process as well as to give you certain canned camera profiles to automate and/or speed the process.
Camera manufacturers design their raw conversion, in-camera  and otherwise, to compress the shadows in order to hide digital chroma noise, and to provide an over-contrasty, over-saturated and over-sharpened look that appeals to the majority of consumers.  Any savvy, experienced Adobe Camera Raw user can easily emulate said camera manufacturer's software and produce an identical result to the in-camera JPEG.
If you want to "retain the in-camera choices in Camera Raw and thus in the save files in tiff which [you] prefer for working files" you can either (a) shoot straight JPEGs, or (b) come up with your own Camera Raw presets that mimic the conversion of the camera manufacturer.
Raw means raw, uncooked, unsalted and unseasoned.  The in-camera JPEG has already been cooked, salted and seasoned with pepper according to the camera manufacturer's criteria of what constitutes a good rendering of the image.  A good, experienced cook can produce a much better, finer, more sophisticated cooked, salted and seasoned with a myriad herbs image from the raw capture with Adobe Camera Raw, in accordance with the skill, intention of the artist that produced the shot.
Adobe Camera raw gives you complete control, and it allows you to mimic or reproduce whatever look you want including the above described over-contrasty, over-saturated and over-sharpened look that appeals to the majority of consumers, once you learn how to use Adobe Camera Raw to its full extent.  Here's an excellent place to start:

  • Multi Camera Editing with Matrox CODEC ( VS4 ) Card

    Hello All.
    Setup
I am recording 4 inputs from the Matrox VS4 via Wirecast 4.2 and also tried 5.0
    - 1080i @ 100Mbps
    - All the video footage play perfectly with no problems what so ever
    - I Have installed the Matrox VFW Software Codecs of a system which DOES NOT have the VS4 card
    - I can edit 1 video with NO PROBLEM.
    Problem
    - Using Adobe Premiere 7.1 CC with multi camera editing, the footage is jittery after a few seconds.
    - Using Adobe Premiere CS 6.0 with multi camera editing, the footage is jittery after a few seconds.
    - I have tried with 2 cameras up to 4 cameras and I get the same problem.#
    Other Test
    - I have tried 12 x videos which are MP4 in multi camera editing with NO PROBLEMS!!!
    - I am using 4 x 128GB SSD in RAID 0 ( 1450 MB/s) - Through put is not an issue.
    - I have also reduced the MB/s on the ISO capture of 50MB/s
This is the CODEC you need to have installed on your computer in order to edit the view/edit the videos recorded by the Matrox VS4:
    http://www.matrox.com/video/en/support/windows/vfw_software_codecs/downloads/softwares/ver sion1.0/
The Matrox Video for Windows (VFW) software codecs let you render and play back Matrox .avi files in your VFW programs without having Matrox video hardware installed. This version provides codecs that were previously available only on systems that have particular Matrox video hardware, such as Matrox Axio. This includes the Matrox DVCPRO HD codec, and "+ Alpha" versions of the Matrox uncompressed and MPEG-2 I-frame codecs. As well, the Matrox VFW MPEG-2 I-frame HD codec now lets you render and play back Matrox MPEG-2 I-frame .avi files in all HD formats (720p, 1440x1080i/p, and full-size 1080i/p).
The following VFW software codecs are provided for use on 32-bit and 64-bit Windows operating systems:
    Matrox DV/DVCAM
    Matrox DVCPRO
    Matrox DVCPRO50
    Matrox DVCPRO HD
Matrox MPEG-2 I-frame in SD and HD resolutions, with or without alpha
Matrox Uncompressed in SD and HD resolutions, with or without alpha
    Matrox Offline HD
Matrox M-JPEG and HDV (playback only)
Is this an issue that is present the Premier 7.1 CC or the CODEC or even both?
    Thank you all.
