How to execute a stored proc with output params

I have a SP that I created with 2 input varchar2s and 1 output varchar2. I developed it using PL/SQL Developer where it compiles and tests OK.
When I try to run it using exec it fails with:
exec validstate2('300', '5')
BEGIN validstate2('300', '5'); END;
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'VALIDSTATE2'
ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
PL/SQL: Statement ignored
If I try to add a set of quotes for an empty string for the output it fails as well.
What do I need to do to get this to run? How do I handle that output parameter?
Rick Price

Here's the SP code, getcountry2 and get state are both functions that seem to work just fine.
create or replace procedure ValidState2(mesgid IN varchar2, vcondition IN varchar2, valid OUT varchar2) is
vvalid varchar2(20);
v_temp varchar2(3);
begin
v_temp := getcountry2(mesgid, vcondition);
IF v_temp = 'US' then
vvalid := getstate(mesgid);
valid := vvalid;
else valid := 'Not US';
end if;
EXCEPTION
when NO_DATA_FOUND THEN valid := 'No Data Found';
end ValidState2;

  • How to execute a stored procedure with an out parameter ?

    Guys I am struggling with executing a stored procedure from sql plus.I mean my stored procedure has 2 input parameter and 1 out put parameter (status of the execution).
    MY_PROCEDURE(p_name in varchar2,p_age in number,p_status out varchar2)
    end my_procedure;
    When I say
    EXECUTE MY_PROCEDURE('manohar','Shetty');
    i get insufficient parameters errors.
    please help.

    EXECUTE isn't a valid PL/SQL construct. It's a SQL*Plus command. You don't want to put any SQL*Plus commands in a PL/SQL block.
    You can always execute a stored procedure purely through PL/SQL
    begin
      my_stored_procedure( x, y, z );
    end;SQL*Plus happens to give you the execute command so you can avoid the begin and end statements.

    When I execute this stored procedure thru rapid sql, I get error
    Error: ORA-06550: line 1, column 21:

    What is that I am missing?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I've never tried Rapid SQL, but my guess is that you can't pass objects through it. I'd write a test case on the server and try it there. It looks like it should work but I didn't build a test case. If it works on the server but not in the tool, it's like the tool. OCI8 doesn't support passing instantiated objects.

  • Stored proc with CLOB param to XMLType column

    I am using Oracle 8i client with the Oracle Provider for OLE DB to connect to an Oracle 9i database. It contains a table with several columns one of which is XMLType. We are trying to use a stored procedure to add rows to this table
    PROCEDURE SP_PUT_XML(
    P1 IN NUMBER,
    P2 IN NUMBER,
    P3 IN CLOB)
    Parameter P3 represents the xml document I am trying to insert.
    I have written a little C++ client program that uses the Oracle Provider for OLE DB to connect to the database and call this stored procedure. This program also reads in an UTF-8 encoded XML file and places it in a wchar_t array and then binds that array to the P3 parameter.
    When I run the program I get the following errors:
    Description: ORA-31011: XML parsing failed
    ORA-19202: Error occurred in XML processing
    LPX-00007: unexpected end-of-file encountered
    ORA-06512: at "MYSCHEMA.MYPACKAGE", line 97
    ORA-06512: at line 1
    When I recompile the client program to use a char array
    (and the exact same file as above) instead of a wchar_t array and bind that to the CLOB param, then the program works fine. no errors.
    How can I determine if the default encoding of the database is not compatible with the encoding of the xml file?

    You can probably retrieve the Boolean as a number data type, such as Int16. I haven't tried this myself, but that's what I've heard some users workaround Boolean.

    When you execute a stored proc withi OUT variables, do you have to add in the "Declare" section and "Begin/End" sections?
    Or can you just use "EXECUTE <stored proc>"?? You mean this?:
    michaels>  create or replace procedure p (o out varchar2)
    as
    begin
       o := 'Some out variable';
    end p;
    Procedure created.

  • BPC5.1 - Data manager package to Stored proc with custom return codes

    Hi all,
    Does anyone have experience passing the return codes from a stored procedure back into the eData "view status" package progress or event log details?
    When my stored procedure throws errors, the offending SQL code shows up in the pacakge details, which is helpful. But what I'd really like is to structure my stored proc with return codes
    0 = everything's wonderful
    1 = invalid category / time combination
    2 = unauthorized
    3 = no data to process
    And then handle these codes as either "completed" "warning" or "error" in the package progress.
    And ideally, I'd like to put some meaningful message about the warnings & errors, directly into the log details, so the user can fix the problem themselves rather than ask the IT guy to trouble-shoot.
    Any tips? I've started playing with using the on-complete, on-success, on-failure routing of different tasks within the DTSX package (SQL 2005), but I'm just working on a trial-and-error basis right now. (With # of errors = # of trials.)
    Thanks,
    Tim

    In case anyone's interested, I've solved this by tracking my return codes as a package variable.
    Within the package, I have conditional logic moving from task to task, evaluating the return code to check for various conditions, and selecting which tasks to perform accordingly.
    In the last task, I run a final stored procedure which posts some data (completion time & status) to a custom transaction log table, and then if the return code is not zero, I script and execute some SQL which I know will throw a "fake" error. The SQL statement itself includes the key information I want the end user to see. For example
    Select InvalidEntitySelection [USEast1],TransactionID [12340]  from ThisTableDoesntExist
    Select UnauthorizedUser [Tim], TransactionID [12345] from ThisTableDoesntExist
    Select WorkStatusIsLocked [USEast1 Actual 2008], TransactionID [12345] from ThisTableDoesntExist
    It's not exactly elegant, but it gets the message across, which is all that I need. In this way, the end user sees that the package failed with an error, and when they look at the package details, they can see the problem. They can pass on the transaction ID to an administrator to look into the details, if they can't figure it out on their own.
    Sorin, I never managed to figure out how to use a VB task to send the information back to the user, plus force the package to end in an error. I'm sure there's a way to do so, but this seems to work for my requirement.
    I'm not entirely happy with the "fake error" approach, but I don't know if BPC has any support for "intentional" programming of errors in the DTS scripting toolset.
    Thanks,
    Tim

  • Calling stored procedure with output parameters in a different schema

    I have a simple stored procedure with two parameters:
    PROCEDURE Test1(
    pOutRecords OUT tCursorRef,
    pIdNumber IN NUMBER);
    where tCursorRef is REF CURSOR.
    (This procedure is part of a package with REF CURSOR declared in there)
    And I have two database schemas: AppOwner and AppUser.
    The above stored procedure is owned by AppOwner, but I have to execute this stored procedure from AppUser schema. I have created a private synonym and granted the neccessary privileges for AppUser schema to execute the package in the AppUser schema.
    When I ran the above procedure from VB using ADO and OraOLEDB.Oracle.1 driver, I got the following error when connecting to the AppUser schema:
    ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
    PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'TEST1'
    ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
    PL/SQL: Statement ignored
    but when I was connecting to the AppOwner schema, everything is running correctly without errors.
    Also, when I switch to the microsoft MSDAORA.1 driver, I can execute the above procedure without any problems even when connecting to the AppUser schema.
    I got this error only when I am trying to execute a stored procedure with an output parameter. All other procedures with only input parameters have no problems at all.
    Do you know the reason for that? Thanks!

    If anyone has figured this one out let me know. I'm getting the same problem. Only in my case I've tried both the "OraOLEDB.Oracle" provider and the "MSDAORA" provider and I get an error either way. Also my procedure has 2 in parameters and 1 out parameter. At least now I know I'm not the only one with this issue. :)

  • How to execute oracle stored procedure through php as externally?

    hi...
    i am searching for the way that how to execute oracle stored procedure through web service, i am using php and mysql, i have some stored procedures in oracale database, i want to execute them, from php, means the database will be remain mysql, and the stored procedures of oracle will be executed externally...
    Kind regards,
    Wilayat.

    Ok, so first of all this is a kind of strange question. Since Oracle and MYSQL can happily live side by side.
    Make sure you have the oracle client (instant or regular ) installed and OCI_8 is set up and working correctly in PHP. If it is, when you run the phpinfo() routine you will see oci_8 on there. IF PHP connects just fine from the command line yet apache wont connect check permissions and things like the LD_Library Path.
    Then in php, right along with your MySQL statements run Oracle Statements eg:
    <?php
    $OraDB = oci_connect(name,pass,tnsname);
    $MySQLdb = mysql_connect([parms]);
    $oraQueryText = "begin sp_some_proc([some parms]); end;" ;
    $mysqlQuery = " Some mysql Query";
    $oraQuery = oci_parse($OraDB,$oraQueryText );
    oci_execute($oraQuery);
    mysql_execute([parms]);
    ?>
    Use the standard fetch code to get data from either of them.
    If you cannot and I mean absolutely cannot get an admin to link in OCI_8 then you still have recourse although it will be tedious as hell. PHP allows you to exec calls to the OS. You still MUST make sure the Oracle Client is installed and that sqlplus runs from the command line. You will more then likely have to have a shell script written to do this as well, but maybe not as I have never tried it with the exception of capturing the return value of sqlplus and you will have to dig into sqlplus to get it to send its results to a file you can then parse with php.
    Good Luck!

  • Error executing DB2 stored proc

    Hi,
    We are trying to execute a Stored Proc in Mainframe DB2. We've prepared a PreparedStatement. The problem the stored proc works fine in some cases, but in some it fails even thouhg the data passed is same. Even the whole JVM crashes and there is no log in error.log file.
    Do you have any idea as to what might be the problem. We are using IBM WebSpehere5.0 and DB2v7.0
    Regards,
    Rohit

    For starters you should be using CallableStatement and not PreparedStatement.
    And if the VM goes down and no errors are thrown anywhere than it's time to talk to the vendor or consult the docs because that is beyond the scope of help you could be given here.

    It works fine when single value is passed in @StateID
    Exec dbo.CountrySelection '01/01/2010','02/01/2010',10
    It fails when multi value passed into @StateID

    SSRS error log shows "Must declare scalar variable @StateID"

    sql

    Visakh,
    I changed @StateID date type to varchar(max) and still I get this error.
    System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Must declare the scalar variable "@StateID".
       at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection)
       at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj)
    I am running this SO in SSRS quert Type =Text
    Actually sp created on db2 database and due to some limitations I am running(via SSRS) this from different db1 database data source within the same db server. When I run this sp from SSRS query designer(edit query designer button) and pass
    multivalue parameters to @StateID as 10 , 20 it works and gives expected resultset.
    Thanks,
    RH

    Let me guess, you want your web application to run a program on the client and to your surprise that's not working?
    Ain't gonna happen.
    its taking more time to execute .... that's y is there any other option to execute .exe file other than Runtime.getRuntime().exec("filename");Write proper English and you may be taken more seriously.
    1) it's not "taking more time to execute", whatever that's supposed to mean.
    2) there's no other way to execute something. Not that you should every use even that way anyway
    3) whenever you start thinking of executing external programs from Java, start thinking of not using Java in the first place.

    WCF adapter is best suited for the same. Use ‘Template’ feature of WCF adapter. Template is mainly used to add wrapper elements around the body of the outgoing message from send port.
    Below mentioned post is perfectly suited for you.
