You might want to ask this in the Java developer's forum. It's not really related to KM and/or the portal...
You'll need to get some exposure the NetWeaver Developer Studio and there are tutorials built in that can help you understand the process for doing Java development.

Is your J2ee engine is in your local system or in Remote I mean installed in another system.
Based on your J2ee engine there s an option NWDS .
Windows> preferences->J2eeengine--->Select the radio button based on your sever availability.
If you select the remote server
Messge server Host: EP host name
Messge server Port :3601
Otherwise select the second option
server instance s attached automativcally.

How to uninstall J2EE Engine 6.20 from BW 3.1 before starting upgrade BI

We hav BW 3.1 cont installed with J2EE Engine 6.20 and we started upgrade to BI 7.0
6.20 J2EE engine is of no use...so we planned to uninstall it before starting the upgrade and install as ADD in once the upgrade is over.
and we uninstalled also
When i start the SAPup phase its given info like J2EE Engine is running....
but nothing s running....
Pls advice on this

You may be able to call WsImport's main() method from your code, something like this:

WsImport.main(args);(Make sure that the webservices-tools.jar file is on the classpath, since that's the one containing the WsImport.class file - you'll probably need the other webservices jars too).

please take in consideration, that JSP page is translated to HttpServlet component when deployed. It's not accessed via original JSP file.
You can try to modify the final HttpServlet class file, but then you have to go through pre-compiling.

Starting and stopping SAP J2EE Engine

Hi guys,
         I have downloaded and installed trial version of SAP Web Application Server (SAP Web AS) Java 6.40 for Microsoft Windows XP.
   I wanted to launch SAP J2EE Engine and Software Deployment Manager (SDM) to run my web dynpro application. The Netweaver Developer studio getting started guide has a link for starting and stopping the SAP J2EE Engine but its not working for me. I get an error with the link.
Is it possible for someone to let me know how to launch J2EE engine and SDM. Also what server settings I need to make in the menu path Window -> Preferences -> SAP J2EE Engine.
Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks for your help, It works fine. For some reason after starting my J2EE server, when I start my Netweaver developer studio, it gives the following error

Check the url http://ipaddress:5xx00/index.html
If this url shows you the system info page then you j2ee engine is up.
If it is not started then how to start J2ee engine.
Check your server0.log file.
If J2ee engine problem is there then how to solve the issue and where to check to solve the issue.
Check for the problems in log file and do search in sdn or in the market place you will get plenty of info read them and try to resolve the errors.

How to restart the J2EE Engine

I ran a couple tests the other day, and the next time I looked the J2EE Engine was down. (Could not send or receive PTP messages to it).
When I brought up the J2EE Engine Administrator, it put upt the following help box:

http:host1:8101/msgserver/text/login returned empty list of connection parameters</b>
I had to reinstall to get it to work.
Does anyone know how to restart the J2EE engine ?

Hi,
judging by the URL given in the error message (which is a URL that queries the message server), your engine must be of 6.40 version. Well, on 6.40 you should have the SAP Management Console (SAP MMC) that you can open and start the engine from. TO open it, go to Start -> Programs -> SAP Management Console. Inside, locate your SAP System, right-click on it and select Start.
That's it.

How to use the activation library on SAP J2EE Engine

This post is referent to a note and their solution, but the solution is not clearly:
Symptom:
One wants to use the activation library provided together with the j2ee engine from an own library.
Reason and Prerequisites:
One wants to use the activation library from an own library but a ClassNotFound Exception or a NoClassDefFoundError keeps showing up.
Solution:
For J2EE Engine 6.30/6.40:
To avoid the above mentioned exceptions one has to specify circular references between the activation library and the specific resource. When the engine's classloading system sees such references it creates a common loader for these resources and avoids the issue.
Some one knows how to do circular references in my program????,
i can use web applications or web dynpro with SAP Developer Studio Kit.

How do I invoke the J2EE Engine (what path)

Hello:
I isntalled the SAP WebAS Sneak Preview (NOT the ENTERPRISE PORTAL, whcih I could never get to work).
In the Enterprise portal install, it puts the J2EE Admin tool in the /usr/.... path.
That path is not created in the WebAS Sneak Preview Install. In this Install I get an eclipse GUI (Netweaver Dev Studio, and a MMC), but I dont know how to access the J2EE admin, since I dont have a /usr path
Could someone please tell me both the path and the command file to execute to get the J2EE Engine Admin GUI to invoke for the smaller install (WebAS) ?

I found my error.
I had just added a RAID to my machine, and when I re-installed, it put the /usr/... directory on the RAID, not the C: drive where I was used to it.

I am working on SAP WAS 6.40 SP9,
I need to start the J2EE not from the mmc (I know how to start the J2EE from MMC))but by invoking exe's.I was able to figure out that I need to invoke
C:\usr\sap\J2E\JC00\j2ee\os_libs\jcontrol.exe
with argument as
pf=C:\usr\sap\J2E\SYS\profile\J2E_JC00_[your_machine]
but when I execute the same on te command prompt the exe runs but when I use IE browser with URL "http://[your_machine]:50000/index.html" I dont get to see the index page
My work involves runing the SAP WAS 6.40 j2ee engine using ANT.I have to use ant tags to start,create deployment descriptors and deploy the ear.
I would be grateful If one can help me out

I saw the http://help.sap.com/ site and there it has been mentioned that :
The following processes must be running for the simplest installation (one dispatcher, one server):
Message Server ( msg_server or msg_server.exe)
Enqueue Server ( enserver or enserver.exe)
Dispatcher and server process (two jlaunch.exe)
Software Deployment Manager (SDM, jlaunch.exe)
Also when I see the developer trace file for jcontrol.exe It actually invokes Jlaunch.exe internally
based on the above stacktrace will you be able to suggest me what might have went wrong
Actually I am trying to find out which all exe file files should be executed in what order so as to start the SAp J2EE engine so that I can deploy some applications on it
