How to Export OMF or AAF of selected tracks in PPro CC2014

From a larger sequence with (e.g.) 20 audiotracks, how can I create OMFs (or AAFs) from just a few selected tracks (e.g. in order to keep size of embedded OMFs below 2Gb)

No-one?

Final Cut Pro x how to export OMF?

As far as I understand, FCPX doesn't support OMF exports, unless something has changed recently. There are some workarounds that you can do, see this post. It looks a little cumbersome though. Hope that helps you further.

  • How to export sound in AAF or OMF, any possibility?

    as above…

Format your sequence to start ay 00;59;30;00
Under File/New you'll see bars and tone.  make some
Place bars and tone from 59:30;00 to 59;50;00 then create a slate in title tool with all the info (name, duration, tc rate) and cut that in from 59;50;00 to 59;55;00
If they request it, cut in a 2-pop with one frame of bars and tone at exactly 59;58;00
Make sure the first frame of your edit is at exactly 01;00;00;00
Select this sequence in the bin
    Choose File/Export/Omf...
I think these settings are reasonable, but ask them what they want.
It will create a self contained file you send to them.
Then re select your sequence and export a reference video with whatever codec specs they want.   Make sure the framerate stays the same.
    Send them both

  • How to export omf from premiere pro to protools?

I get the following message when importing the omf to protools
"can´t open the selected file because Protools express does not support this file type"
    I have protool express 11

My guess would be that Protools Express is the 'cheap' version and you will nee the 'full' version to open that file.
But having never used either, you should probably confirm that with Avid.

  • How to export a QT with eight audio tracks

Hi  All. I want to export a sequence with 8 separate audio tracks (interviews on 1&2, music on 7&8, sound effects and ambient sound on the others) so that the resulting QT has 8 separate and distinct tracks, matching the tracks in FC.
The goal is for a future editor at the TV station I work at to be able to take the video and ambient audio, but use different music.
In sequence settings, I've got 'audio output' set to 8, with each grouping checked 'dual Mono'. But when I export, I get a QT with a mixed down stereo pair on channels 1 and 2 (with audio from all the FC tracks), and six empty tracks.

I have a video tutorial...goes into a bit more detail, including how to make those 8 options happen:

  • How to fade and change vol on selected tracks

Is it possible to have a track to fade out at the end of a song and have another track fade in and out as vocals com in so the music does not dominate during the vocals.

You can do non-destructive fade outs on a track-by-track basis using the crossfade tool/pointer.
As for fading tracks in and out to give the vocals more presence, I think compression is the best way to accomplish that. But you can automate levels to pull back during some parts. I do this in song s[pots, when I want a guitar riff to be louder and then bring it down for the verse.

  • Exporting omf file from FCPX

Any one know how to export omf with FCPX?  have tried  "automatic duck" but version 4.10 won't work with FCPX.
    help.

If you're going to DVD Studio Pro, it will need to transcode to mpeg-2 at some point.  If you exported a referenced QT movie from FCP7 previously, then DVD Studio Pro was doing the transcoding for you.
In FCPX, I suggest exporting using Compressor 4.  Apply the DVD preset (mpeg2 video and dolby digital audio) and you can also apply chapter markers within Compressor.
Import the 2 resulting files into DVD Studio Pro and no further transcoding (other than menus) will need to be performed when you burn the disc.

  • OMF and AAF exports -limited functionality now with 'raw' DSLR audio files.

I'm an post production sound mixer...and a film maker and thus I see PP CS5 from 2 sides. I'm using CS5 with a PC.
The industry uses OMF or AAF to export from a video workstation to an audio one. However PP CS5's OMF and AAF are both flawed.
I often had trouble exporting OMF's (from CS4) which failed without any reason popping up from the software. I usually believed this to be because of the OMF's restriction to 2Gb so I exported single tracks when I believe the source files are large...even when specifing say only 50 frame handles.
AAF more often worked with large files but the exports become large of course (that's OK) and all video material had to be deleted in the sequence before doing an AAF export.
I am now using CS5 and dropping my Canon 5D2 'H264' and Panasonic GH-1 'mts' files directly on the timeline instead of converting them to avi's with Neoscene. Great ...but alas all OMF's or AAF exports now fail....they will only work if I get my audio back to being wav files again, which isn't really viable once editing has occurred.
I know that OMF is fraught...Avid never made it easy but AAF is a more up to date exchange protocol. Could I request that this is investigated and an intermediate  transcode to something like wav or AIFF be undertaken by Media Encoder when an AAF export is used? I assume that the encoder doesn't yet know how to process audio .movs or mts files into the required export audio file and just kills the process.

    Stan,
Thanks for the suggestion...I submitted a Bug Report.
I used both OMF and AAF to export from PP CS4 to my professional Fairlght DAW, which was happy with either, as long as the export was succesful. As I said there were occasional problems with OMF even though I selected small 'audio handles' for the 'embedded' OMF exports. My source audiofiles are often pretty big. AAF worked with these big source files however.
However I always used Neoscene to transcode my DSLR files before importing the Neoscene converted .AVI's into CS4, the audio was part of the new .AVI's and was probably now a .WAV.
Now with CS5 I can drop the Canon 5D2's 'H264. mov's' or the Panasonic GH-1's '.mts' video files directly into PP-which plays them beautifully.
My trouble now starts when I try and export the edited audio to my DAW. I can only get it to work with source files that are .WAV.
I don't think other professional users, like all those new PP CS5 machines at the BBC, will be happy with the compromised OMF/AAF exports either as so many of us are using DSLR's now.

  • FCE 4 and OMF or AAF export

I've actually read Apple's tech specs and looked on this forum for this answer and have not found it. I've found that FCE has not supported OMF or AAF export in the past - is this true for FCE 4 as well?
If it is not included does anybody have a technical reason why this is?
and if FCE does NOT have an OMF or AAF export function - has anybody had success with XML export and then converting the XML to an OMF or AAF?

that's insane about the XML - I guess I just assumed it would since iMovie can export XML, right - isn't that how people are supposed to get from iMovie to FCE?
anyway - thanks for the response.

  • How to export a sequence as an AAF without media and then relink in Avid

Just in case it helps anyone else sharing material Avid ←→ PPro....
If I export a sequence as an AAF then it expects me to want to include the media, whereas I don't want to duplicate media.
If I put the AAF in a bin - with a piece of media (I used black) - then it will export just the AAF without media.
Importing this to Avid results in Media Offline - and I could not get normal relinking to find the media (is it possible?).
However using this as a guide I found that I could get the media to relink, having imported the AAF to Avid (and ignored the warnings):
    1. AMA link to all the media that is in your Pr sequence in a fresh Avid bin (you'll need to know where that media is)
    2. Select all the clips in that bin
    3. Go to the offline sequence, right click and select relink
4a. Select radio button that says 'Relink selected items to selected items in all open bins'
4b. Under 'relink by' select 'start' and 'name', check 'ignore extension'
It does require that you haven't renamed any of the clips in your premiere project - that the clip names match the file names.
(In FCP7 there was an option to rename clips to match files OR rename files to match clips.)

There is one drawback to the Copy/New from Clipboard method. It does not pick up all the elements of the chart. It doesn't give you the axis titles, legend, or chart name.
    I do this:
    1) Print using the Open PDF in Preview setting
    2) In Preview, select the chart and whatever surrounding area you want to have with it.
    3) Copy
    4) New from Clipboard
    5) Save in the desired format.
You can often skip steps 4&5 and paste directly into another document if that is where it is headed.

  • Export OMF, AAF  from Final cut X ???

Is there a way for export audio/ video from final cut x like OMF or AAF?  for professionnal use, it's very important !

    In short: NO.
as a pro evidently in need of exporting to Protools or whatever, you should stay away from FCP X,  & stick with FCP7 for now. Wait & see what fixes or solutions Apple comes up with once the smoke clears after tuesdays debacle of this software introduction. The ball is in their court now, everyone seems to be holding their breath for a reaction from Cupertino.

  • Export OMF with levels

    Hi there,
I am trying to export an omf in FCP 7.0.3 with levels, but the audio guy doesn't see the levels. He is using a pyramix system.
I have heard that automatic duck has a plug in where you can export to aaf with levels, but this is an expensive program.
Is there an other way to do this?
    regards, Micha

    Dear Nick,
I know how to export an OMF, but my problem is that the de audio editor doesn't see the levels. The manaul says that this should work, but it doesn't. He does see the cross fades, but not the levels.
I am now trying a workaround by media managing a copy of the sequence without video and make a XML file, but the problem there is that the although I removed all the video, the media manager still includes the video in the export.
The audio editor can read the xml file with the levels and the cross fades, but the export is now very big (it is a 50 minutes sequence) because the video is still included.

  • Is it possible to export OMF (to ProTools)?

Is it possible to export OMF (to ProTools)? It is vital for the post of sound to be able to send the edit for further work by professional sounddesigners. I love the idea of FC-X, but if OMF export/import is not possible...
Would appreciate any ideas as to how to go about this issue! Thanks

If you need to export an OMF file, you'll have to export your project to FCP 7 with Xto7 (http://assistedediting.intelligentassistance.com/Xto7/) and export an OMF from there. However AAF export is possible with X2Pro software (http://www.x2pro.net/). I highly recommend it, since it makes use of FCP X's Roles-feature by naming the tracks in ProTools according to roles.
