How to extend an AS3 class in an MXML Component

Hello,
I have a few MXML Components based on the Spark Group.
They all use MXML for layouta and AS3 for logic.
They all have the same logic and I would like all to extend an AS3 class to have the same methods and properties isteand of declaring the same exact ones for each MXML Component.
How can this be done please?

Hm, no, I'm not explaing this properly.
I have an MXML component based on the Spark Group.
It has a few form elements.
There are many such components.
I want all to have two public methods: getData() and setData() which get and set data from and to the input elements.
I don't want to write the exact same method for all of them.
I would like to at least interface the MXML components with an AS3 class forcing them to have those 2 methods.

  • How to extend JAXB genrated classes from other application specifc classes

    Hi,
    I would like to know, is there a way to extend JAXB genrated classes from my application specific classes?

    In JAXB 2.0 a Java class may be mapped to an XML document or an XML Schema with annotations in the javax.xml.bind.annotation package.

  • How to extend/ replace generated classes from JAXB

    Hello Experts,
    In our application (Which uses Java Webdynpro as the UI and RFC’s for the backend access- an R/3 System), there is a need to construct an XML file (from the data entered by the user) which will be later accepted by the backend system. Now to avoid manual creation of the XML document, what we did is that we created an XSD file based on the back end structure (This XSD contains definition for all the possible fields and structures in the back end).
    Then we used the JAXB implementation to automatically create Java Objects from the XSD file. We populate this JAXB generated Java objects and then use the Serialization framework to serialize them into an XML file.
    This all works well, provided that the structure of the back end system does not change, but unfortunately it can, customer can add additional attributes to the existing structures (They do not create new structures, just add new attributes to it so I do not need to create new Java Object classes at runtime, I need only to add attributes to them). If they do so, the XSD and corresponding Java Objects (which are shipped as part of the source code) do not remain valid anymore as the automatically generated Objects (which correspond to the structures in the back end) would not have the definition of the newly added attributes.
    Can anyone please suggest how to overcome this limitation with JAXB.
    The needed functionality is that somehow I should be able to add fields (corresponding to the customer added attributes) to the automatically created Java objects and thus pass the data in the additional attribute to the backend. (Please note that at runtime using an RFC, I can find out the current structure of the backend but the structure at the Webdynpro end (set of Java objects generated from the JAXB) is static and is a part of the code).
    Any comments/suggestions could be of great help.
    Thanks

    You cannot do that. TheJAVA language does not allow a class to "extend" more than one upper class.
    Typically, the solution is to modify your architecture a little bit. Just use the "has a" relationship instead of "is a". That means something like that:public class MyFraisMessage
        extends MyOtherClass
        private FraisMessage message;
      etc...You write an extension "MyFraisMessage" of your upper class "MyOtherClass", which has the JAXB generated object as an attribute. This structure is often useful, when you think you would need multiple inheritance.

  • How to extend a JAVA class array?

    Hi,
    I would like to do the following :
    // I know this is not possible
    public class MyModel extends JTextField [] [] {
         class body, behaves as a JTextField array
    public class MyAppUsingMyModel {
         MyModel myMod01 = new MyModel (int01, int02);
    } instead of
    public class MyAppUsingAnArray {
         JTextField [] [] myod01 = new JTextField (int01, int02);
    } Reason:
    The application programmer doesnt need to know the real model structure
    Id like to change MyModel.java later on when there will be new needs, but dont change the API
    I am looking for a kiss solution (keep it simple and stupid), so no academic thing like e.g. a factory pattern.
    Is there a (general) simple solution I was too blind to recognize?
    Thanks
    Michel

    1) The "factory" pattern is very much not some academic notion!
    2) The way you're currently doing it is preferable. Google "favour composition over inheritance" for more information
    Basically, the fact that there is an array of (for instance) JComponents is an implementation detail, keep it hidden. Best thing is to write the class (or even an interface) that exposes exactly the methods you think you need, and use whatever you need underneath to make them work

  • How-To/Sample code to tie up class variable to MXML component created in Design view

    This is a very noob question but I've been searching through the documentation for the last 2 hours and can't seem to find anything helpful.  I have a SWFLoader created in the design view.  I have all my app code in an <fx:Script> with all my functions and variable in a CDATA tag.  All I want to do is hookup the SWFLoader created in the design view with a private var in my ActionScript.
    I also have two separate states for my app, and I want the same SWFLoader to be visible in both states. Can someone point me to some useful sample code or documentation??
    Any help is much appreciated.

    Sun has recommendations for naming conventions. Class names should start with a capital letter. You should avoid using class names that are the same as classes provided in the SDK. Following these conventions will make it easier for people to help you. For example, you should not use file, nor should you use File. It's better to use MyFile, replacing My with something that makes sense to your application (SeniorFile?).
    Also, check the Formatting Help link when posting for a desciption on how to use the code tags for posting code.
    1. You need to establish references between your classes. One way is to have a constructor that has a JMenuBar argument.
    2. You can not add a file to a JMenuBar because a JMenuBar adds a JMenu. I don't think you want file to extend JMenu. It may be better for file to have a JMenu.
    I haven't tried to compile this code so no guarantees - just trying to show you an approach.
    public class Senior extends JFrame {
       public Senior() {
          JMenuBar bar = new JMenuBar();
          MyFile file = new MyFile(bar);
    //whatever else you need
    public class MyFile {
       public MyFile(JMenuBar mbar) {
          JMenu menu = new JMenu();
          mbar.add(menu);

  • Problem calling AS3 class's methods from Flex Project

    Sorry if this is a stupid question, but after 2 days of Web
    searching and 2 books give up; I am a Java and c# programmer and am
    having problems calling AS3 classes (in packages) from Flex Builder
    2 Flex Projects; the AS3 classes work great as Flex Builder "AS3
    Projects", but when I try to use the classes in a Flex Builder
    "Flex Project" I am able to see and set their properties, but
    cannot see (through "code completion") their methods (unless the
    class extends another AS3 class; and in that case I can see the
    base class's methods). Here is the code:
    AS3 Example Class:
    package asText {
    public class CheckWord {
    public var strData:String;
    public var strAProperty:String;
    public var intAProperty:int;
    // Constructor
    public function CheckWord() {
    public function TestMethod():void {
    trace("test...");
    public function WordLength():int {
    var intLength:int = 0;
    trace(strData);
    intLength = strData.length;
    return intLength;
    } // From Method WordLength
    } // From Class CheckWord
    } // From Package asText
    The MXML code:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <mx:Application xmlns:mx="
    http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
    layout="absolute"
    width="442" height="488" horizontalAlign="center"
    verticalAlign="middle"
    backgroundGradientColors="[#c0c0c0, #c0c0c0]"
    xmlns:asTheText="asText.*"
    >
    <asTheText:CheckWord strData="Test words" />
    <mx:Panel title="Welcome to ........" width="337"
    height="393" horizontalAlign="center" verticalAlign="middle"
    layout="absolute" y="15" x="50">
    <mx:Text text="First Name" enabled="true" width="68"
    fontWeight="bold" x="27.25" y="36"/>
    <mx:TextInput id="txtFName" x="112.25" y="34"/>
    <mx:Text text="Last Name" enabled="true" width="68"
    fontWeight="bold" x="27.25" y="66"/>
    <mx:TextInput x="112.25" y="64" id="txtLName"/>
    <mx:Text text="email address" enabled="true" width="87"
    fontWeight="bold" x="17.25" y="96"/>
    <mx:TextInput width="189" id="txtEmail" left="112.25"
    top="94"/>
    <mx:Button id="butSubmit" label="Submit" x="95" y="194"
    click="asTheText:TestMethod();"/>
    ..............and so on ............
    All this does is give me an 1180 error:
    1180: Call to a possibly undefined method TestMethod.
    flexConveyMovie1.mxml

    Thanks, I have it working; I was not assigning an "ID" to the
    "MXML use of the class" (whatever the formal name for that is;
    like: <asTheText:CheckWord id="MyText" strData="The Data" />
    ) and then I was not referencing that ID in what I am refering to
    as calling methods for the Class; like:
    <mx:Button id="butTest" label="Test Function" x="39"
    y="208" click="MyText.TestMethod();"/>
    Also, I did some tests on this, and I am shocked that
    apparently neither of these two "uses"(?) of a custom AS3 class
    actually "call" the Class's constructor. Does that make sense or is
    that the result of how I am structuring this?

  • How can I determine the feeder class for a WebDynpro component in SRM 7.0?

    Hi experts.
    I am trying to figure out how to add some columns to the list of contract items for this WebDynpro application/view:
    Applikation: /SAPSRM/WDA_L_FPM_OIF
    Web Dynpro-komponent: /SAPSRM/WDC_CTR_DOTC_IT
    Window: IV_L_FPC_CA_TREE
    View: V_CTR_DODC_ITEMS
    Configuration-ID: /SAPSRM/WDCC_FPM_CTR_DOTC_ITM
    All the documentation I can find regarding the FPM says to change the feeder class, but nowhere I have seen do they explain how to determine the feeder class of an existing component/view.
    I am hoping for your help!
    Thanks!
    Best regards
    Per Hjorth Christiansen

    The term "feeder class" normally refers to the POWL search, not the actual document detail screen. You could just add one more column by enhancing the webdynpro view.

  • Event in ActionScript Class not accessible by MXML Component

    I am implementing an ActionScript Class in my MXML Component,
    but it can't see the Event I'm specifying. I'm getting the
    following Error when I compile my application:
    Cannot resolve attribute 'myEvent' for component type
    myClass.
    How do I make the Event available to the MXML component?
    Thanks.

    Guess the compiler has a problem with semi-colons after the
    Event declarations. I removed the semi-colons, and was able to
    compile.

  • How to extend a class from super package?

    Say I have a dir a\
    in dir a\ there is a dir b\
    in b\ there is a class called DerivedClass
    in a\ there is a class called ExtendedClass
    how do I extend ExtendedClass from DerivedClass?

    package a.b;
    import a.ExtendedClass;
    public class DerivedClass extends ExtendedClass{
        //define class members
    This is interesting. But the question is, how does java know where is package b??     By the classpath variable - the classpath is set to one directory above 'a'. When you say
         a.ExtendedClass, since the classpath is set to the immediate parent of a, it searches the child directories
         for a directory called 'a' and upon finding it, searches for a .class file 'ExtendedClass'.
         Similarly when you say a.b.DerivedClass, the search begins in the parent directory for a directory called a and then
         a directory 'b' inside it on finding which it searches for DerivedClass.class
    Alternatively you could have defined DerivedClass to be in package 'b'.
         package b; //note the difference. Its b and not a.b
         import a.ExtendedClass;
         public class DerivedClass extends ExtendedClass{
             //define class members
         }in which case, you should set the classpath to
    1. a's parent directory
    2. a itself
    The parent directory cp is still required to locate a.ExtendedClass
    The fully qualified name of DerivedClass is b.DerivedClass
    Thus if #1 alone were present, since 'b' is not directly inside the parent directory,
    b.DerivedClass would never be found
    Hence the #2 is required-the search should start from the directory 'a' (as directory 'b' is inside 'a').
    therefore, a package is a directory.No, package is a very java specific thing and though logically package names should match directory names, they
    arent the same.
    cheers,
    ram.

  • How can I extend the Vector class?

    Hi All,
    I'm trying to extend the Vector class so I can get add a .remove(item:T) method to the class.  I've tried this:
    public class VectorCollection extends Vector.<T>
    That gives me the compile error "1017: The definition of base class Vector was not found"
    So then I tried:
    public class VectorCollection extends Vector
    Which gives me the compile error "1016: Base class is final."
    There must be some way to extend the Vector class, though, as on the Vector's official docs page it says:
    Note: To override this method in a subclass of Vector, use ...args for the parameters, as this example shows:
         public override function splice(...args) {
           // your statements here
    So there must be a way to extend the Vector class.  What am I doing wrong?

    No. AS3 doesn't currently have full support for generic types; Vector.<T> was added in an ad-hoc ("ad-hack"?) way. We are considering adding full support in a future version of ActionScript.

  • How to extend the JVue applet class using ActiveX Control

    My SR recommendation was to post this here:
    ) How to Extend the JVue Applet class
    This is the preferred solution. However, when using the ActiveX control, my derived JVue class that is specified in autovue.properties is not being instantiated.
    Your ActiveX bridge looks like it's hard coding a "new JVue()" which means I have no integration hook using the ActiveX control.
    To reiterate, if I extend JVue to add functionality and specify it in the autovue.properties, it is picked up when I run it standalone but if I use the ActiveX component, it is not being picked up.
    I have already read all the documentation, have had web conferences with Mahmood and Jeff Chapman and the engineering staff who recommended this approach as the preferred option.

    We have a need to override certain VueBean/JVue method calls to meet our document handling(documents need to handle metadata information and hence change the document loading cycle, ie markup loading/XRef resolution is dynamic). Also the invokeAction/invokeSubAction do not allow parameter passing(which we have requirements for certain actions again due to metadata) so we would like to override the invokeAction method to include custom processing(we will encode the action with parameters).
    We are already using Custom VueActions for other simpler UI event handling that don't have parameter requirements.
    As I said above, these use cases were relayed to the engineering team and senior staff members in early December and we were told that we could proceed with overriding the main class in the autovue.properties file. I have SR(s) opened with a long thread detailing this so I really don't want to go through this again.
    A custom VueAction does not seem to work because it binds to late in the object call/event stream.

  • I need help extending the MovieClip class

    I want to add a property to the MovieClip class. I just have a bunch of MovieClips that are placed on the stage by reading an XML file and creating lots of clips according to the information in them. Now, I need to know which MovieClips were created below previous clips, and I figure that the easiest way to do so would be by extending the MovieClip class and add an order property.
    I have some problems though: I don't know how to set or get this order property within the main clip, I don't know how to place this clip within my movie, and I don't know how to create them dynamically (do I just do something like var myNewObjectOfExtendedClass : myExtendedClassName = new myExtendedClassName?)
    This is the code I have on my extended class, called Expando.as:
    class Expando extends MovieClip {
    private var _order:Number;
    public function get order():Number {
    return _order;
    public function set order(nOrder:Number):Void {
    _order = nOrder;

    You mean the Tree component?
    My concern with the Tree component (at least the AS2 version) is that I don't see a way to have each node in the Tree have different hit areas with different outcomes.
    The tree that I build must have up to 7 levels within each main branch, and not all of them behave the same way. In some branches, clicking the icon next to the label will have a completely different outcome than clicking on the label, which may or may not return a function. Each of those sublevels also need to support different icons, depending on what information is represented by it.
    Sample:
    • Reminders
    My Reminders
    Manual Reminders
    Escalated Reminders
    • Cases
    Name Actions < ---- this is where the problem begins. Clicking on the icon where the bullet should be should do something different than clicking on the name, which should do something different than clicking on the word ActionsThis is information about that referral that includes who referred them, the date of the referral, their full address. This information usually takes up 2 lines, sometimes 3
    Assignment   <------- you can only open see these leaves if you click on the bullet icon for the previous node; you can't open this by clicking on the text.
    Eligibility
    Etc., depending on what information has been appended
    • Suppliers
    Anyway, if the Tree Component can indeed support these features, I'd like to know where to find information about it please
    In my search for that information, I concluded that I'd probably be better served by building my own MovieClip that can handle these requirements. I did have a working Tree component pretty quickly as I started this project, but then I got more familiar with the app that I'm building the training for and noticed these requirements.
    Of course, maybe all these features are supported by the AS3 Tree component. The problem is that I'm a lot worse with AS3 than I am with AS2 heh.

  • How to extend a jpanel

    hi
    this might sound like a beginers question
    i have a main class which extends jframe i called the frame graphicsframe i have also decleared, a jpanel inside
    this class.
    but how do i extend that JPanel in another class i know you can use graphicsframe.panel to change the methods. but then i have to declear all of the methods using graphicsframe.panel.

    to extend a JPanel you simply, ... extend it:
    public class MyPanel extends JPanel
      // you'll need a constructor or a few in here plus any override and new methods
    }I try to avoid extending JPanels, JFrames, and whatnot unless I'm going to change the basic behavior of the component, most commonly to override the paintComponent of a JPanel so I can draw in it.
    By the way, what is to "declear"?
    One more point: you probably should post Swing questions in the Swing forum (but please don't do this now. Continue on with this thread and please don't cross-post).

  • How do I display AS3 Object in only one state?

    I created a AS3 object from a SWFLoader class as an animation, which I then place in a Flex stage.  I need to display the object programmatically in only one state but there is no "includeIn()" method to include it in just one state.
    Right now, it is showing up on all of the flex states.  I add this object at different times and positions in the state.  Everything is fine except it displays in all the states.
    How do I display a AS3 object in only one state?
    Thank you.

    When i use visible property as you suggested, it works, but only on one object.  I am generating more than one of these objects, so there could be 3 or 4, etc of these objects displaying concurrently at different x y positions in the state.
    Is there a way to grab all of the objects created by this AS3 class at once and apply the visible property?

  • How to deploy a single class to the web portal?

    EDIT: I've been able to create the deployment file. I found an older copy of NWDS and the old project folders are working perfectly again. I'll cross that bridge with the new version another time.
    Firstly, sorry if this post is in the wrong section ... I looked around and couldn't find a section that I thought fitted.
    A while back my company created a simple login module to similate a single sign on for our network. The module worked perfectly for a few months, then about a months ago it started rejecting logins for no apparent reason. I've asked all involved with the system and everyone claims that they haven't touched anything and that the problem must be within the Java class.
    Due to recent workstation upgrades, I now have the latest version of NetWeaver Development Studio installed (SDN_Preview_SR_5_IDECE71). This new version does not like the old project that was created for this task, and I am struggling to create a new project which will do what I need.
    Can someone point me to up-to-date documentation that explains how I can create a project which contains only a single java class that is to be deployed to a web portal? The class that is created extends the SAP class; com.sap.engine.interfaces.security.auth.AbstractLoginModule.
    Please note that I have already look at some of the online documentation, for example: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/e1/8e51341a06084de10000009b38f83b/frameset.htm
    And that was of no help as it seems the documentation is no longer up-to-date with the current version ... or am I looking at the wrong documentation?
    Another possibility is to install the older NetWeaver Development Studio, the problem here is I do not know where I can download a copy for Windows? I can only find the latest version for Windows online.
    Thanks in advance for any and all assistance,
