How to find unauthorised songs in big library?

I've had several apple computers over the years/decades, and more than one iTunes account.  I recently collated all my external back ups of music onto the powerbook to create the "big music library".
The problem is there are lots of songs that were authorised on iTunes accounts and/or computers where I've long forgotten my username, let alone the password. Consequently, I intermittently get an error message that a particular song cannot be played becauce it isn't authorised.
Instead of just randomly discovering these outliers, is there any way to search for unauthorised tunes, pull them into a single list and authorise them once and for all?
thanks for any assistance :-)

I'm not sure about searching for the songs and putting them in a single list, but you can authorize your computer for all an accounts purchases by going to the Store tab at the top of the screen and pressing authorize computer, then filling in the relevant details for the Apple ID.

  • I can't find purchased songs in Music Library or in Recently Added.  The purchases are on my account.

I can't find purchased songs in Music Library or in Recently Added.  I have searched my library but they are not there.  Itunes says that all recently purchased items have been downloaded.  Where are the songs?

I don't know how, but this problem resolved itself for me.  If you don't see the downloads go to Documents, My Music, iTunes and then scrounge around to see if you can find a file with new downloads in there.  Then you can drag them to the iTunes icon.
Then try shutting down iTunes, and your computer and restart to see if this issue fixes itself.  I know, only a Mackie would think that a computer could fix itself.

  • I have a new iMac and i created two libraries on iTunes. how do i copy songs from one library to the other?

I have a new imac. I created two libraries, one for me, one for my kids. how do I copy songs from one library to the other library?

Not easy unless you're just content with adding some files to the other as new files but lose playlists for those files, and playcount, and ratings, etc.  If you're okay with that, you can drag the media folder from one library to the other. If you use default settings and want to duplicate the media, just drag it. If you want to add the media but leave it where it is currently located, hold down the option key while dragging to the library window.

  • How can i copy songs from another library to my itunes library with homesharing?

How can i copy songs from another library to my itunes library with homesharing?  I see the other libraries, but cannot drag the songs into my library.  The help window says to use the "show menu" at the bottom, but I don't have that menu with itunes 11.

You can do this in 2 ways.
    1) You can enable the sidebar and you can drag and drop like you used to be able to.  To turn on Sidebar in iTunes 11, go to View > Show Sidebar
    2) Another way is to connect to your Home Share from the drop-down menu from the left (where it says Music) and select your Home Share.  Once you are connected to your Home Share, select Music and you should see a button that says "All Items" and on the right, you should see the Import button.  To copy, select the songs you want to import and then click on Import.

    Bust3d,
The gifting options on a mobile device are limited.  However, if you long into your iTunes account on a Mac or PC, you can gift a song you have already purchased.  Click the triangle and choose "Gift This Song."  See pic below.

  • How do I find unauthorized songs in my library? (previously shared from ex)

Previously in my iTunes library I had a number of songs that were shared between my ex-wife and I.
While I understand and have successfully de-authorized all songs from my library that were purchased through my account (and then reauthorized those tracks on my "purchased" list) I still run across songs from time to time that had been purchased through my ex-wife's account.
I've been replacing/repurchasing effected songs as I encounter them but I was hoping to find a more efficient way of finding all of the songs all at one time. This has really become an issue as I loaded up my library to my newest iPod. It gave me a notice of 88 songs that were unauthorized and unfortunately the list window won't expand to make for an easier time of picking out the songs I want to repurchase (I was hoping to as a worst case solution take a screenshot of an expanded window and then look through things as I then navigate the iTunes store to make my new purches).
Any assist or advice that anyone could float my way regarding this problem would be greatly appreciated. I did a search but perhaps I've not landed on the right search wording as all I got were results that pertained to users having issues with songs that had suddenly lost their authorization info but had been purchased by that user prior.
    Much thanks in advance.

    this could help:
    _*Track Down Purchases*_
This script will examine each track in a selection of tracks or a selected playlist to determine if it was purchased from the iTunes Store and then copies it to a discrete playlist named for the person who purchased it, eg: "Steve Ballmer's Purchased Music". Recognizes song, video, and audiobook purchases. Purchaser information is gleaned by examining the track's file, which, depending on file location and access speed, can take as long a second per track.

  • How to find a song quickly in ncmpcpp

    Hi
I've been trying to figure it out if it is possible to find a song in the playlist by artist and title or any other tag. Something similar to how Sonata filters the playlist.
If I search for 'one' I get hundreds of results even tough I only want the U2 song. I know I can search by tags in Search engine but I prefer searching in the playlist. So the only "solution" I found is to first filter the playlist for 'u2' and then do the Find forward for 'one'. But it seems there has to be a better way to do this. Using regular expressions with / would be great but I haven't found any examples on how to use them properly in ncmpcpp.
Is there a way to search by multiple tags with Find forward/backward?
I can see there are a lot of people on the forum using mpd and ncmpcpp and I'm wondering how do you search quickly for a song that has one fairly common word for the title?
    Thanks

So I spent some more time trying to solve this issue and I think I figured it out.
Even though I've set regular expressions to extended, I still had trouble finding the proper entries starting with 'one'.
^one.*u2 didn't return anything, at least until I've tried it in playlists column mode.
This is my playlist formating for column and classic mode:
    song_columns_list_format = "(40)[white]{t} (30)[green]{a} (10)[green]{l}"
    song_list_format = "{$8%t$9}|{$8%f$9} $R{$3[%a]$9}|{$3%D$9}  {$3%l$9}"
It turns out that color definition in classic mode are part of the input string but in column mode they are not.
^..one.*u2  finds exactly the song I was looking for.
In the end nothing fancy, but this little thing was bugging me for a long time now and I just wanted to make an end to it all.
... now the only thing left missing is a 'Jump to' widget for awesomewm

  • How to see what songs in my library are NOT on my iPhone?

I know my phone is missing songs from my library - but I am having a hard time locating them (I have playlists and genres set to sync and some songs unchecked that I do not want synced, but I can't find the one-off's that say don't have a genre in the songs info and so are being left off genre lists and havne't been added to a playlist so are not being included in my synced playlists)
is there any way to simply filter the library to show those songs not on the connected device (iphone, ipod, ipad, etc)

You should be able to create a smart playlist with rules to exclude media that are included in the playlists/genres/etc. that you use for syncing.  You'll need to include a "Playlist is Music" rule to ensure that you're selecting songs and not other media types such as audiobooks or podcasts.

  • 7.6 can't find any songs in my library after upgrade

After I upgraded to 7.6 and iTunes "updated my iTunes library", every single song (over 10,000) in my almost full 60gb iPod library turned up with the dreaded exclamation point, meaning that iTunes couldn't find the files. They are in the same place they were before I upgraded. I tried the "shift" - open thing so I could tell it where the library file was but that didn't work. I salvaged things by reinstalling the old version of iTunes along with the old .itl file (which I had thankfully saved elsewhere). But I was thinking about upgrading to an iPod Classic, which requires iTunes 7.6. Does this mean I will have to recreate my entire library all over from scratch on the new iPod?

I finally got around to messing with this problem again. I had already done what you suggested twice with no luck, but I tried it again today. Once again, after iTunes "updated the library", all songs had exclamation points. I tried copying and pasting the old .itl file, reopening iTunes, but it again "updated the library" and the same thing happened. However, this time I tried closing iTunes and opening it up again, and everything seemed to be fine! Don't know why it was telling me it couldn't find my songs before I did that. Since I've had iTunes lose songs for no apparent reason before, I've gotten so paranoid that I've got my entire library backed up on TWO external hard drives! Thanks for your help.

  • How to find which songs are not synchronized with iPod?

I have about 5,000 songs in iTunes and the same minus 7 in the iPod.
How do I find the songs that were not synchronized?
    Thanks,

Hi, the instruction are difficult to follow, I am not a programmer. Secondly I understand that it finds duplicate songs. My problem that some tongs were not transfered to iPod for some reason. I checked the duplicate songs from the menu and it showed hundreds, because some of them in the Best of or live Albums.
I think iTunes should have an option finding non synced songs.
    Thank you,

  • How to find which song is NOT on a playlist?

How do you find which song is NOT on a playlist?
I don't see a column I can add in the Music section under my ipod that allows me to choose playlist, all I see is Album, Album Artist, etc... but no Playlist column...
I keep finding fairly minor but very frustrating ease of use issues with this iTunes after getting my iPod... Yet another product suggestion going in I guess unless someone has an easy solution..

Ok...I don't know a quick way to find this out so this method will likely be a time consuming pain. The only method I know of is right clicking on each track and looking at the "show in playlist" option. It should show you any playlist the track shows in. If you don't see it in one (It may show in "purchased" if you bought it from iTunes) then it's not in one of your playlists and you can then go to the "Add to playlist" option and put it in one of your existing ones that shows in the list. Or create a new one.
There may be an easier way to do this but that's the only method I know.

  • HELP! how do you get songs from your library ...

i'm having trouble getting songs from my library to my ipod. HELP!!!!!1
    Dell?   Windows XP   ?????

James, you are going to have to be a lot more specific as to what's going on when you try to sync your music to your iPod before anyone has a clue on how to start to help you. Please include what kind of iPod you have, what version of iTunes you're using, any error messages or error codes that are happening. The more information you post, the better chance you have of getting some help.

Apple removed that option. You need to wait for them to release an update which returns it(if they do) or delete them manually.
