How to fix Java placeholders instead of buttons on Firefox 31?

I think this is Java... I have lots of placeholders instead of working icons, particularly on Twitter, DuckDuckGo and many other sites. I'm using FF31 on a MacAir, but have the same problem with FF28 on an iMac.
I've tried restoring FF and that helps for one session; as soon as I close the browser we're back to placeholders.

The missing icons are supplied by a font that is downloaded from the server (@font-face) as you can probably see by little boxes that show the hex code of the characters.
Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own fonts to make Firefox use downloadable fonts.
*Firefox > Preferences > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced: [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"
You can check the <b>gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled</b> pref on the <b>about:config</b> page and make sure that it is set to true (if necessary double-click the line to toggle its value).

Without a working lock screen button, you'll probably have to wait for the battery to go dead. Once it doesn't wake up by pressing the home button you can plug it into a charger and it will eventually reboot.

If the songs are still on your ipod, make sure autosync is disabled in iTunes on your computer, connect and right click on it in the device list, then choose "transfer purchases" to copy all bought media and apps from your ipod to your computer.
If the songs are not on your computer and got deleted from your ipod as well, you can't get them back, unless you have a backup of your iTunes library as part of your computer backup.

Hey! So I found out this free way to be able to use the home button with no cost! It won't unjam it, but using this method you will have a touchscreen homebutton.
Directions:
1. Go to Settings
2. Go to General
3. Scroll down and go to Accessibility
4. Scroll down and go to Assistive Touch
5. Then turn assistive touch on.
What you will see is a little white circle on the screen. When you tap this circle you have the Home button option(which functions all the ways of your jammed home button). As well as a few other options; Device, Favorites and Gestures. You can move that circle about the screen for your convenience. This is just a way to have a home button without paying to restore.

i know there is a classic theme addon for windows but i need a fix for osx...its very frustrating when you update and things like this change and cant be customized back to the way we are used to using the browser. its counter intuitive to have the refresh page button so far away from the back and home buttons.

Is Classic Theme Restorer only for Windows? I thought it worked on Mac, too. Some of the pre-selected interface items like the Application Button may match old Windows versions and you may need to deselect those in its Settings dialog.

To try disabling Plugins and extensions, Open Firefox in Safe Mode. If you don't know to access Safe Mode, Click Start Menu, click All Programs, Click Mozilla Firefox and select Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode).

Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

That's not a problem with OSX Lion, it is an issue with that particular website (we've seen this before). It's not working with the Mac very well, and there's nothing you can do about it. Sorry.

You probably need to rethink your design. Where are these child classes going? What is using or consuming them? I agree with the message above about a button instantiating a parent field variable to one child or the other depending on which button is pressed.

I run 10.5.8 on a PowerMac G5. During a recent software upgrade I seem to have lost or damaged Java related functionality in the OS.
Symptoms include:
: Java Preferences crashes on launch
: "Missing plugin" appears in Mail.app messages where photos should be
: Certain apps I have built in Java claim "Cannot launch Application. It requires newer java"
: In Safari, banner ads don't appear in some cases. (ok, it isn't all bad)
: I've also lost video playing functionality on YouTube and other sites (but I thought that was Flash-related, but maybe they are connected somehow)
Saftware Update in System Preferences says everything is up to date and I can't seem to figure out what else to diagnose much less fix the problems.
Any kind souls out there able to point me in the right direction?

I'm afraid to recommend an A&I of late because several OSX updates have gone missing at apple downloads, & we can't find out if it's a snafu or on purpose.

Click on the download button, no worry, it won't DL anything, just take you to the APP Store, worry again.
Last I checked the 10.5.8 Combo was there, but no idea about all the JAVA Updates that must be done in order.
I did find 2 system wide plists that you might compare, not sure if I'd replace them from the working one though...

ive had this ipod 4g for about 6 months. probably 2 months ago i put my ipod down on my bed (working perfectly fine, DID NOT DROP IT) then came back 5 minutes later and my home button was unresponsive, and will not work at all. ive been using the assistive touch as a home button sinse then but im really tired of it and it slows my ipod down a lot. could anyone please tell me how i can fix it myself? How I fixed my Powerbook G4 Trackpad Button

I'd like to share a solution I've found to a problem that plagued me.
For months, my trackpad would intermittently act sticky. I thought it was the trackpad itself, but as the problem became more frequent and intense, I realized that it was the button itself.
Because the machine was unusable without an external mouse, I decided to do whatever I could to fix it today. I tried cleaned it with a lint-free cloth, cleaning the gap between the trackpad and the button, resetting the PMU, and resetting the NVRAM. None of this helped.
SO, I deduced that it must be a hardware problem and I could probably fix it since I knew the problem originated under the button itself. So I went to iFixit.com.

Overall, it took me about an hour of meticulous work. Opening the Powerbook went fine. I removed the top cover with some hesitation, but no damage was done. I located the trackpad circuitry and removed the 2 inner and the 2 outer screws. I discovered a very small button, THE button. I clicked it a few times and it seemed okay. Perhaps the screws had loosened over time. I lightly vacuumed the inner trackpad area with a small brush attachment, and I put it all back together.
I have apparently repair the problem completely. I can only guess that some dust got under the area and/or the screws were too lose to operate properly. If anyone is having a similar problem with their trackpad button, I highly recommend that they locate their model at iFixIt.com, locate the correct tools, and carefully remove the top casing in a clean work area.

Zenskanitsky - thanks for sharing!! My trackpad started to act funny a month ago and a week ago it totally stopped working. I didn't want to spend the USD250 for the new trackpad uppercase so I started wondering if I could try to fix it myself.
Well i came across your post and it really helped!! My trackpad button works like new and is very sensitive.
For those wanting to do the same thing, I would like to add some points to Zen's post:
1) print out the instructions from ifixit.com - they are super easy to follow
2) equipment i used was the 75mm philips style screwdriver, and the EC-T6, plus a plastic letter opener (to replace Spudger) to carefully pry open uppercase.
3) I don't have the little vacuum cleaner but i took a cloth and also blew out (with my mouth) any dust that may have been there.
4) When I put everything back together again, the trackpad button was responding but still needed some very hard pushing, so I opened up the powerbook again (which was where I realized it would be easier to just print out the ifixit.com instructions than follow on the other computer)...
5) this time I sprayed a cotton swab ear cleaner with WD-40 and dabbed THE BUTTON with it, until it was wet. Then i clicked the button with my finger and dabbed more WD-40 on it.
6) When I reassembled everything the mouse button worked like new.
In fact I am so happy with the state of my mouse button i thought I would do my bit to first thank Zen for encouraging me to try to fix my own mouse button and 2nd adding my own lessons learned for others looking to do the same thing.

I have a matrix report developed in Reports 5.
This report includes a button to open a detail
report when pressed. The button is located inside
the matrix. This report runs well for Reports 5,
but with 6i the button occurs in the upper left corner,
independent if I use an anchor or anything else.
I already dropped the button within R5 and created
a new one in R6i - same effect, upper left corner.
Is there someone who knows how to solve this problem ?

Maybe it's a bug, depending on the reports release ?
I am using Reports 6.0.8.16.0.
A friend of mine is using 6.0.5.34.1 - and it works !
So I assume we have to face a real BUG.
Maybe a patch would help.
