How to fulfill "component-based" design architecture through BC4J

who can help to explain some principles or discipline ,
how to get entrprise component-based architecture application through adopt BC4J or ADF framework ?

Components based means that you create components that you can reuse in your application or other applications.
When you work with BC4J for example you can create entity objects that can be reused in different view objects, view objects can be reused in different application modules, and application modules can be used in other application modules.
When you work with ADF you create a component that access your data - for example and EJB and you can reuse it to create a JSP ui or a Swing UI or another Java object that access it.
Java is object orienter - you don't get any more "component" oriented than that.

How to add default values when adding custom component to design view?

I have a set of custom components (usually) extending Spark components. But when adding our custom component onto design view, how can I define defult values (in AS3).
For example, s:Button has default label = 'Button' when added to application, or mx:DataGrid has 3 columns predefined, but when using custom components there are no predefined values like this.
I can put this values in constructor, but they are not visible in design time, only runtime.

yes, I am. By the way I've found the solution. Someone might find this usefull.
In design.xml having
<component name="ExtendedTextInput" namespace="mynamespace" category="beta" displayName="ExtendedTextInput"/>
use this
<component name="ExtendedTextInput" namespace="mynamespace" category="beta" displayName="ExtendedTextInput">
<defaultAttribute name="text" value="ExtendedTextInput"/>
</component>
so when adding this component to design view, it will have text setted to value ('ExtendedTextInput' in this case).

I'm conducting a design/architecture review for a part of our system that needs seriously re-visiting. I'm going to be formally presenting the review and was hoping for a few pointers.
Does anybody have a set of guidelines they follow for such a review? Are there any suitable articles or books for me to refer to?

Design architecture Difficulty

Hello all. I'm having some difficulty comming up with a viable and stable design architecture for the problem listed below.
We are downloading 5 files from a server through TCP/IP.
Each file consist of say 20 parts/chunks.
Each part is further divided into chunks of say 15.
So, 15 chunks make 1 part. 20 parts make 1 file.
Each chunk is say 1MB where each part is about 15MB in size.
Now, we are downloading these files through 30 available TCP/IP connections.
Each connection can download 1 chunk at a time.
So, we have 30 chunks being downloaded in parallel through 30 TCP/IP connections.
So, 2 parts of a file (i.e. 30 chunks) are downloading at once.
User may pause the file being downloaded (i.e. file 1) and start downloading a different file (i.e. file 4).
Now, these 30 TCP/IP connections will have to abandon downloading file 1, and be reused to download file 4.
When file 4 is finished, the user decides to start downloading file 1 again. The progress of downloading file 1 should start from where it left off.
The progress may only be deleted when user Cancels the download.
Basically, the above section describes the jist of it. Any sugestions are appriciated.

How about an array of cluster with chuck name / PostID#, priority weight and status (waiting for dl, in progress) , whenever a connection is free / a chunk download has finished, the element with the highest weight is downloaded.
Could also be a queue or a AE ....
Commandline controllable NNTP reader/ downloader may already (or should I say may still?) exist.
If bandwidth is limited and you have multiple downloaders, why not use a torrent like approach?
Still remember the time reading this forum with nn (or was it tin?) on a freebsd system connected via telnet to a DEC VT102

Not really sure what you're looking for here. Not much is explicitly published on the internals and most of what is "known" is anecdotal or based on reverse engineering by the community.There are specific things that have been documented fairly
well, but those are scattered among various blogs. We can potentially address direct questions here in the forums or point you to that info, but there's not much to really direct you to as a single source because it doesn't really exist in general.

How do I access LiveCycle Designer from my Adobe Acrobat X Pro?

     I am unable to access LifeCycle ES2 from my Adobe Acrobat X pro, even though I am supposed to have it as part of the software. I have tried Forms/Edit forms, and I have looked for it through all the menus. Several of the helps I have found for other things has me launch LifeCycle and operate from screens that LifeCycle designer provides.
    I am using Windows XP professional.
    I would appreciate all the help I can get on this.

There is a terminology issue here. From Acrobat Pro X you launch Designer
not LiveCycle ES2. LiveCycle is a server product.
When you install Acrobat you have the option to install or not install
Designer. Look in the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0
and check to see if there is a Designer 9.0 folder. When in Acrobat you
should be able to create a new form and it will prompt if you want to use
Designer. If all else fails you can always go into the Designer 9.0
folder and launch FormDesigner.exe

On what event the component services will be activated and called.
Suppose i create a Custom service name MULTIPLECHECKIN then this service will be called on what event and where it will be defined to call.

the code is packed in the component (see component\Security Filter\java\Security Filter\ModifyAttributesFilter.java - the first Security Filter is the component name, the other Security Filter is the Java package name).
What is important:
- your class must implement the FilterImplementor interface (you will need UCM standard classes - server.zip in your classpath) and its doFilter method
How the filter is executed?
- actually, in this case you don't need any new service - you can use the standard 'hook', which is provided by standard checkin services
- in Component Wizard create a new component, add your compiled class to it (make sure you follow the rules not to end up in classpath issues)
- in Component Wizard click the 'Java Code' tab. Here you can add a Custom filter called validateCheckinData, which is executed by standard checkin services. If you parametrize the filter to call your class created above, you are done.
'Working with Content Components' manual (e.g. here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10316_01/cs/cs_doc_10/documentation/developer/using_components_10en.pdf) can give you a basic picture. A better resource is Bex Huff's book - I would recommend you to get it, because it has a step-by-step HelloWorld example which can guide you through Component Wizard. I could also send you my own component (send me an email at [email protected]) which implements a filter for user quotas, so you just need to "replace classes".
As for the other half of your task, searching for the file in the database server will work only if you use database as your storage (ie. install and configure File Store Provider component accordingly). Of course, you could do a search for file in this case - just consider that you will be comparing two BLOBs rather than two relatively short check-sums (most likely strings or arrays of bytes). Besides, it will not work if you use filesystem as your storage.

Java-only, Component based message alerting - loopback to sender system

Dear guys,
we are using the alert framework availbale on PI 7.11 to notify the sender system if there is an alert for specific interfaces. In that case a customer function module is called giving the message id of the request message (message is sent via ABAP proxy). As a result the according entry in customer table is updated.
The implemntation is based on the BADI ALERT_MODIFY_TEXT and uses the standard function module ALE_BAPI_GET_UNIQUE_RECEIVER to determine the system /rfc destination to send the alert notification.
This solution works fine so far.
As PI 7.11 dual stack is not the latest release, we are thinking of upgrading to current PI/PO release. In this context also shift to java-only installation is contemplated which will need an alternative solution for the described alert/error notification loopback.
Are there any possibilities analog to BADI to implement such a solution?
What are your approaches regarding this requirement in the context of java-only?
Any help/thoughts appreciated.

PI 7.31 - Component based alerting v/s Alert framework like 7.0

PI Experts,
We are in the process of upgrading PI from 7.0 to 7.31. In current PI-7.0, We are using Alert framework for notifying us for the failed messages in PI.
PI-7.3 has the the new feature of Component based alerting, while implementation, we have a choice between "Component Based Alerting" and "Alert FrameWork".
1.     Can someone guiide me on what are the advantages of using "Component Based Alerting" v/s "Alert Framework" in PI-7.3?
2.     If we choose "Component Based Alerting" now, then can we switch it back to "Alert Framework"? If yes, how difficult it is? What are the configuration steps for the "Component Based Alerting"?
3.     If we choose "Alert Framework" now, then can we switch it back to "Component Based Alerting"? If yes, how difficult it is? We would be able to use our current alert configuration and alert rules?

depends how you consume alerts - if you do it with SOLMAN for example it's there (for "number of hours" and/or "until" AFAIK)

How it is derived here , mean to say how we can say component is Designed or Purchased.
What are the system settings required to derive it.

Typically by transferring a component with purchasing information into EHSM by using the BOMBOS transfer.
BOMBOS will evaluate purchasing information (e.g. purchasing info records) and create supplier parts (own entities) in EHSM below the purchased component.
MATNR_X (Purchased component)
-> Supplier Part A (Supplier A)
-> Supplier Part B (Supplier B)

Try creating dummy text id which will be part of text determination procedure @ Customers sales text & document header text.
else, maintain the SO10-text against this text ID. whenver user createds quotation this text will be defaulted irrespective of the cusotmer.
then based on if user want to modify the text they have to enter manually in this text id. print this text in header.
