How to get active monitor-Multiple monitors connected to a single machine.
Hi,
How to get the id of active graphic device, in case of multiple graphic devices connected to a single machine(Multi-headed display/ multi headed nodes) using Swing.
Prashanth.
Ah, youre actually asking different things.
In your topic title, you say youre running separate instances
In your body text, you say you are under different user/schema
So tell me, do you have more than one database or not? How many entries in your TNS file?
I would say, for "multiple database instances"
SELECT
a.id, b.id
FROM
tableA a
INNER JOIN
tableB@OTHER_DATABASE_LINK_NAME b <--NOTE!
USING(id)And of course you will have to look up CREATE PUBLIC DATABASE LINK sql..

How to get Activity Monitor to show processes running on one specific drive
I clone my main drive to two cloned drives. From the clones I normally, without any problem, run both Repair Disk from the Apple Disk Utility, and a maintenance program from Disk Warrior. Now, however, neither of these utility programs are able to unmount my main drive. Rather, they return a message to quite running processes. I have tried to use Activity Monitor to locate what is running, but can find no way to determine which of the dozens of processes listed are connected to the main drive, rather than to the boot drive of the clone. Plus, I do not understand how something can be "running" on a drive that is not the boot drive. Please help. Thanks.
Let's start in reverse order...
I do not understand how something can be "running" on a drive that is not the boot drive
That's easy. You can't unmount the drive if any files on that drive are in use. That does not necessarily mean the application is stored on that drive, but any file on that drive could prevent it being unmounted - for example, if an application has a document open that is on the drive, you might not be able to unmount the drive.
Even subtler, if you're running Terminal.app and have cd'd into a directory on that drive, then you won't be able to unmount, either, since the directory is 'in use'.
As for finding out which applications are using the disk, try lsof in terminal:
sudo lsof +d /Volumes/diskname
This will show any process that has an open file handle on /Volumes/diskname (and its subdirectories). -
How can I get Activity Monitor to work?
I've searched the discussions to no avail, so I have this question: how can I get Activity Monitor to work? It launches and its window opens but then the spinning beachball appears. I've checked the Console and it shows that the Activity Monitor is attempting to fully launch but then it "exits" and then it tries to fully start up again, goes into an infinite loop or something. Issued a "force quit" succesfully. I've deleted the Activity Monitor's .plist, no joy. What to do? Thanks!
I'm running 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro (late 2011)I wish I could be more positive but I have no experience of MacBook Pros and whether their demands on the system differ from my simple iMac. If you have the time to scour through 'More like this' ( to the right of your initial post) and the links within it, you may find leads.
I also found this thread via Google which in parts seems to echo your troubles. I hope it helps; thank you for the star.

How to get external monitor to obey Energy Saver settings
I have a 23 inch Apple Cinema Display connected to a 2010 15 inch 2.8 GHz i7 MacBook Pro running Mac OS X (10.6.5). I'm running the laptop in clamshell mode. Everything is working fine, but for one thing. For some reason the external display does not obey the Energy Saver Control Panel settings. I have the Energy Saver Control Panel set up so the laptop never sleeps but the display is set to sleep after 5 min. of inactivity. Unfortunately the external monitor never sleeps.
Anybody know how to get only the external monitor to sleep in clamshell mode?
Thanks…
Dragon Dictate in use. Occasionally mistakes are made. I correct the ones I notice…Basically, reinstall the Boot Camp video drivers manually and if that doesn't work then go to the AMD/Radeon website and install the Windows drivers directly for your video card model.
If you want to do a search you will find others that have pretty good luck doing it either way. -
How to add Activity Monitor to top Toolbar
The last step of most workflows is to Export. By that time, I grow a little tired and impatient. It takes time if you are exporting dozens of versions.
How can I configure Aperture with the a button for Activity Monitor at the top?O.k., go to the "View" menu and use the command "Customize Toolbar".
Drag an "Activity" icon to the Toolbar. Sorry, I missed it the first time I searched the "Customize Toolbar" menu. -
How to read activity monitor????
My system keeps freezing up while using garageband. I've noticed on activity monitor that the "green/% user" bars are peeked, while the "red/% system" bars are relativly low. First: How do I interpret these colors? Second: what can be causing problem? I've posted on "garageband" link, but no help interpreting activity monitor was offered. Any help - VERY appreciated!!!!!
the colors, such as green, indicate who is running the process. User processes are those application you have started or have running. These could include appliactions such as Firefox, Safari, Word, or Garageband.
colors such as red are programs the system has running. These could include automount, File Sharing server. In general applications used by the system.
So when you are looking at garageband in activity viewer. From the pop-up menu, select My Processes. Next to it, in the filter field, type in garageband. This way the only process you will be watching is GB. See how much of the CPU it is using, as well as how much memory it is taking up. -
Is there a tutorial or something on using Activity Monitor?
For instance, I'd like to find out what processes are going on to prevent my G4 from shutting down at the scheduled time. (The shutdown deal has been ongoing since first going to OS X.)Hi, David.
1. What specific version of Mac OS X are you using? Your profile information simply states "10.4". See:• If 10.4.5 or earlier, see "Mac OS X's Shut Down schedule will only work when one user is logged in."
• If 10.4.6 or later, see Mac OS X 10.4.6 or later: Scheduled shut down occurs at Login window even if users are logged in."
2. Note that your Mac must be awake at the appointed time for scheduled shutdown to work. See "Mac OS X 10.3 and later: Computer must be awake for scheduled shutdown to occur."
3. You may want to trash the preferences related to scheduling Startup / Shutdown / Sleep:1. Quit (Command-Q) System Preferences if it is open.
2. There are two preferences files for power management / energy saver settings under Mac OS X 10.4:• If you want to reset the Scheduled Startup and Sleep/Shutdown preferences, trash the file:
com.apple.AutoWake.plist
located in the Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration folder. You may be prompted for your Admin password when you trash this file.
• The Energy Saver preferences related to Computer, Display, and Hard Drive Sleep are saved in the file
com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
which is also located in the Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration folder. As before, you may be prompted for your Admin password when you trash this file.3. Empty the Trash.
4. Launch System Preferences and reset the preferences accordingly.Note that some of the information above is from the "Sleep" and "Shutdown" chapters of my book, Troubleshooting Mac® OS X, Tiger Edition.
Good luck!

VBA API: How to get the monitor number?
Hello,
I have written
an Excel application which
controls an external application
(making inputs,
reads out the window,
etc.).
I use a lot of API functions, e.g. as in the code from thisarticle:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/194578?wa=wsignin1.0
A basic
function of my application is
to distinguish between windows
that have the same title
but are on different monitors.
In my windows (and NVIDIA) settings the left monitor is 1 and the right monitor is 2.
In the past I have this routine to "identify" the monitor number from a window handle:
Function GetWindowMonitor(ByVal hWnd As Long) As Integer
Dim hMonitor As Long, MI As MONITORINFO, hM
hMonitor = MonitorFromWindow(hWnd, MONITOR_DEFAULTTONEAREST)
MI.cbSize = Len(MI)
GetMonitorInfo hMonitor, MI
Set mMonitor = New Collection
EnumDisplayMonitors ByVal 0&, ByVal 0&, AddressOf MonitorEnumProc, ByVal 0&
For Each hM In mMonitor
GetWindowMonitor = GetWindowMonitor + 1
If hM = hMonitor Then Exit Function
Next
GetWindowMonitor = 0
End Function
But last week I got a new graphic card and now this obvious stupid function fails, because EnumDisplayMonitors delivers the 2nd monitor first and then the 1st
monitor.
Long talk, short question: Is there any way to get the real monitor numbers as they are shown inside the windows settings?
Andreas. When you need to identify monitors, call CreateDC with "DISPLAY" as the driver name and pass monitor name as the device name. Then you can draw a number on the result HDC.
I can not draw that number and I can not set an identifier. As I said in my last post:
I share this tool with my colleagues at work.
Okay... CreateDC is an idea... as I've read at MSDN I can call EnumDisplayMonitors with a DC to get informations about the monitor, so I tried the code below, but it doesn't work.
EnumDisplayMonitors does not call my MonitorEnumProc when I call it with a DC.
Do I something wrong? Do I misunderstood the MSDN article? Is that not possible? Can you confirm that?
Andreas.

Is there any procedure for it to get from observing registry keys.
I found NetworkInterface class in java but not yet succesful in getting the display name of active network interface.
Can anyone help me with partial code?
Please help me.Use getLocalHost() then retreive the list of NetworkInterfaces and cycle through them until you find the one that has that address.

Permissions ACL Freakout - Activity Monitor Can't Run - Time Machine?
Occasionally, when I repair disc permissions on 1.5.5, I find that virtually every file on my computer says "ACL found but not expected". The repair takes up two two hours to run.
The repair works, but the condition appears to come back every time I run Time Machine. All of this would be a superficial irritation except that I often can't run Activity Monitor, and have to go through the two-hour permissions repair in order to get that it working again.
Ideally, I'd like to prevent the permissions condition from happening and keep Activity Monitor operable. Any ideas?
A few tidbits:
Activity Monitor is in Applications\Utilities
I run Time Machine from an account other than the Admin one
The permissions repair can be done from any account successfullySuperDuper is fine. Even Disk Utility Restore will do the job.
But I'm beginning to be "cautiously paranoid" with breaking in / testing / torturing / any new drive now (again) for a day or two before putting it into full service. If that sounds hard, just zero the drive and fill it up with junk data that gets reformated later anyway.
Can't go far wrong with WD 640GB $76 from OWC right now. Maybe a couple. Two backup sets for every drive.
