HOW TO GET THE MACBOOK PRO 13" TO RUN ON THE 1440x900 RESOLUTION

Hey guy, this is not a question bu more of an answer. I have read many forums with people wanting to up there res on the macbook pro from 1280x800 to something higher. i got my 13" MAcbook pro mid 2012 to run on the 1440x900 although its blurry and this is how. Firstly you want to download and instal switchresX. open the app go into last option (colour lcd), go to the custom resolution tab, click the + button on the buttom left,  the at the top chage the option to scaled resolution, change the res to horizontal: 1440 and vertical:900. click ok then apply now experimental. reboot your make go into system preferences, display, scaled and select the one you just created. All done .

Your best option would be to sell yours and buy a used, unscratched model. A case replacement by apple is going to cost a small fortune.

  • How to get new Macbook Pro Retina (late 2013) to detect external monitor via HDMI?

Hi everyone, this is my first Mac and for the most part it's been really, really wonderful.
This is my first major glitch:  I cannot get it to detect my external display:  It is an ASUS PA248Q, manufactured Aug 2012.
The HDMI cable according to my Amazon history is at least 1.3c from 2010,  "Fanatic Digital Imperial Series Gold-Plated HDMI Cable (6 feet)".
It works with perfectly connecting an AmazonTV box to an old Samsung TV, with vivid clarity, unlike our cableTV signal.
Just in case, I have a new HDMI cable on order, which claims to be of newest standards.
The Macbook Pro Retina (late 2013) has the standard Intel Iris from the Haswell chips, as well as Nvidia GT 750M, the latter which I don't think has been used yet.
The ASUS display says:  HDMI NO SIGNAL.
I have tried shutting them down and replugging the cable.  I don't know what the ideal order is.  The Macbook Pro is plugged into AC power, as suggested.
In System Preferences>Display, I press the Option key to select "Detect Displays" option (seriously unintuitive).
I have also tried resetting the NVRAM:
I shut the machine down.  Pressed the power button, then quickly held the quadruplet:  Option-Command-P-R  (a double handful) and waited for the machine to chime a 2nd time.  Tried to detect external display no luck.
    Next, I reset the SMC:
I shut the machine down.  Then I pressed Shift-Control-Option-Power   for about 5 to 10s.  Then I turned on the machine normally.
NVRAM & SMC steps were from an old youtube video, as the instructions I had did not explain how to do so clearly.
Please let me know if I"m doing something wrong.
Seems so exorbitant to pay $350 for Apple Care;  that's a the cost for a whole new cheap laptop.
I will search the forums again.  If anyone answers this,  thank so much!

    Hello there, willr314.
It sounds like you've covered most of the practical steps found in this Knowledge Base article:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1573#1
No video or no signal, image distortion, "snow," or flickering
    Check connections
When using an external display be sure to check the following:
If you're using an Apple notebook, confirm the AC power cable or adapter is securely connected to the computer and the cable providing power to the display is also secure. It is always good to have your notebook connected to AC power when an external display is in use.
Confirm display adapters are fully seated in their respective connections and that they are supported models and for the computer and display. Refer to these articles to assist you with adapter compatibility and further configuration information:
    Monitor and Display Adapter Table
About Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters
Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Thunderbolt ports and displays: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Remove all display cable extenders, KVM switches, or other like devices and retest to determine if the issue is resolved.
Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.Reset the resolutionStart by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.

If you tried all of these steps for your display and the video issues persist, contact Apple technical support or take your Apple computer to the nearest Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for diagnosis. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail Store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).
Note: Diagnostic fees may apply for issues not covered under warranty or the AppleCare Protection Plan (APP).

  • HT1338 the Macbook Pro would not even detect the external monitor.

My Macbook pro will not connect to an external monitor after moving it. It has been running on this same monitor for 8 months. I switched to a new Desk last night, after hooking it up, the Macbook Pro would not even detect the external monitor. It was only showing the Macs monitor in Display. It did not even have where you could "Detect Display" available. Is there an update that I may have missed. I have tested all the Monitor connections with another laptop they all work.

If nothing displays but you hear normal startup sounds, then it's possible this is a video issue, and you should take it to an Apple store or AASP.

  • How to get my macbook pro to print in color?

how can i get my macbook pro to print in color?

Attach a color printer (either directly to your Mac or to your Home Network) set it up correctly, and choose Print from the File menu.
A more specific answer would require you to supply information about your Mac, your Mac OS X version, your Printer, your attachment method, and the version of the Driver you are using.

  • Is is possible to use the MacBook pro as a handsfree for the iPhone?

Why we cannot control de iPhone using the MacBook pro?.
It should be very easy, but it is not.
I even can't pair my MacBook pro with my iPhone, see pic!
I really do not understand why we can not use the MacBook bluetooth capabilities to make calls, answers calls etc.
Apple let us use the Mac bluetooth capabilities to use and control our iPhone, it should be easy, also!

You may think it should be easy, but in reality it is not.  Your MacBook Pro is not a dedicated handsfree headset, and it would take a considerable amount of effort to write the application code to create a program for your MBP to emulate one.  You can find any third party developer you like and convince them to create a Mac App for you which will provide you with a user interface on your Mac, and use Bluetooth to emulate a handsfree headset for your cell phone (it swouldn't even have to be an iPhone) and see just how much they want to charge you for such an application.  You might be surprised to see how high those numbers really are...

  • Is the Macbook Pro Retina display better than the LED display on the new iMac that is coming out?

I am thinking of either buying the Macbook Pro retina display (15") or waiting for the iMac 27" display. I am mainly focusing on the display, so what is better?

    vinay.sujan wrote:
Is the MacBook Pro Retina display resolution of 2880-by-1800 a strain on the eyes as I understand the higher the resolution the more strainful the screen can be to the eyes?
Well there are two or three causes of eyestrain with displays different people seem to have.
    1: Small type/UI elements
    2: Glossy screens
    3: Flicker rate
    1:
The higher pixel rate combined with the display set at the higher resolution is going to cause UI and type to be smaller and harder to see. In fact it's advised to set OS X to a lower resolouton so it upscales better to match the pixel of the higher display.
Reports coming in say watching HD 1920 x 1080 trailers on the anti-glare 17" is best as the pixel content matches the display almost fullscreen, where on the MBP-R it's upscaled and thus looks blurry.
HD content makers are NOT going to change all their video cameras to support 2880 x 1800 full screen, so in order to get a clearer image playing HD 1080 content, one will have to do so in a smaller window.
    2:
The new MBP-R dispalys are 75% less glossy, but not 100% less glossy like the anti-glare models so this can still cause some people problems. This can be lowered to under 1%, however I'm suspecting to do so would be considered giving up a military advantage to China where Apple gets it products made.
    3:
I don't know about the flicker rate if it's better or not on the MBP-R's than the previous screens.

Have you tried booting with the install disc that came with your computer?
Find it and then run Disk Utility to verify your hard drive. If errors are found, try to repair the disk.
It sounds as if the hard drive might be failing.

  • How to get a macbook pro replacement under warranty?

I bought my Macbook pro 6 months ago, and it's still under warranty right now. I used some laptops of SONY VAIO & Microsoft before, and I did not experience any problems with them in the first 2 years. This year, I decided to give Macbook pro a try because I have heard many compliments about this laptop from my friends and advertisements. When I opened the box and used it in the 1st time, I noticed that the button CAPS LOCK wasn't good, and I had to press it 2-3 times to make it work. It has happened for 6 months, until now. I felt a little bit disappointed, but I still use it because I am an easy customer. But recently, whenever I turn on the SLEEP MODE for my laptop and work with my laptop later on, my laptop often experiences the PAUSE or freezing. I don't know how to describe it, but there is a round circle with rainbow colors appear on the screen and pause everything/programs is running. My laptop has never been felt out or scratch. It's just 6 months since the day I purchased the laptop. I should not experience this trouble with my laptop because I think the Macpro is better than the SONY VAIO or other laptops. I feel like I was sold a refurbished Mac, and I am really disappointed. My friend told me to bring my Mac to be fixed in Apple store, but I don't want to continue using a fixed, refurbished Mac. Can I get a replacement? If I bought it in Bestbuy, could I got replacement in Apple Store or Bestbuy store?

    Can I get a replacement?
    No - see below

  • How to get my macbook pro out of VGA mode

I plugged my new Macbook Pro into a VGA adapter to do a slideshow on a projector screen, and after i was finnished, my mac is still in VGA mode on the lcd screen - is a awkward view mode.  Does anyone know how to revert back to a normal viewing mode?  Even after restarting the macbook, it remains in the mode for being connected to a vga cord.  thank you.

Safe Mode uses a simple display mode and bypasses the stored settings. It can be used to get out of situations where you set the resolution or configuration wrong.
Hold down Shift as you start up.
It will run a pass of "Repair Disk", which takes several minutes.
Then it will come up with minimal extensions loaded and default display settings.
Provide your User_id and password and log in.
Change the displays prefs to something boring.
Be certain to close the pref pane and Save changes.
    Restart.
