Synchronize is used to make an object and/or a functional sequence thread safe. By itself it does not make something thread safe.
So the point is to make something thread safe not just to synchronize it.
You can either sychronize a method like so....
      public synchronized void doit()
Or you synchronize on an object (where 'Object' below is solely as an example, any object can be used)...
      Object lockObject = new Object();
      public void doit()
         sychronized (lockObject)

No, it is all or nothing. You can't select which bookmarks folders to sync.

How to hide front panel objects behind other front panel objects

Hi,
I need tho change an existing project and to make it simple just want to hide some front panel objects behind others. But I can't find how to put the one I wnt to the front hiding all others. So now there are some in front that should be hidden.
Is there a button or menu item "Move to front / back" like in many other programs?

How to use just one account in the domain to login to the right server having access to the right resources. Even when a user works on 4 different sites ...

We have one domain with about 36 sites. On the sites we use (2008R2 / 2012R2) RODC's .
All workstations have Windows 7.
Some users work on several sites. We want the user to just be able to use one account and the environment to see on which site the user logs in, so the right script can be loaded and the appropiate resources like data and printers are available.
We have several users working on 4 sites (different schools) doing their work fot that specific site overthere.
I want the system to see where a user logs in (can be on IP address), so we can give the users just one account that will work as it should.
I like to get some ideas or advise on how to get it done.

Use Group Policy Objects and link them to your sites as appropriate...

How to play just one song?

How can I get my iPod to play just one musical piece--to not automatically go on and play every song after it continuously? I listen to classical and symphonies can be 40-60 minutes long. I would like it to stop after one so I can then choose another. Can I set it to stop after each selection?

What happens if you go into the artist or album lis and juts pick the one album it is on? I am fairly sure that when you play an album, it plays everything in the album and then stops.
So if your symphony is a single album, you should be able to pick the album and play it that way (vs. going in and searching for the song in the big song list).

How to stop just one item being reset when sumbit is pressed?

How can i keep the value of just one item when the submit button is pressed. This field will always be the user id of the user logged on so i dont want it to be reset. I have tired doing a simple query to select the id everytime the page loads but the value then appears null when i do an insert statement to create a particular record for the user in a table.
Anyone any ideas?

Right I could see how the APP_USER would work but it wouldn’t work in this situation.
To be more specific I want the id of the user which is called student id to stay the same all the way through the application as there id refers to them. What I have is that when a user logs on it takes them to their details and a menu part. One of the options is to enter some documents relevant to them. So when they click this option a new page opens showing a report of all the current documents as well as a form where you can update, insert new and delete documents.
When you load the page the report and form work fine with the correct student id being passed form the pervious page. If however you create a document all the fields in the form get reset. I therefore want a way of stopping the student id from being reset when you create or delete a document. Basically if the page refreshes.
I can run an sql query that gets the correct student id if the field is null and displays it correctly in the form but for some reasons (im guessing cos its a result of a query) when it tries to process this when I submit the field is null.
Any ideas as this one has got me

Can iTunes hide just one movie or video?

If you are a family that shares a single computer then there are times when you would like to purchase a movie or TV show to keep in your iTunes library, but not allow younger members of the family to play or even see the title. I don't want to hide the entire movie category because the kids have movies in there, but I don't want them to have access to movies that are R rated. Any ideas on how to hide a single movie or two without locking the entire movies section?

Apple has already thought of a solution to your comment. They have a section under preferences called Parental control.
Parental controls is for downloading (its a store preference). It has nothing to do with the library and is intended to be use in tandium with multiple accounts so that multiple accounts can share one 1TMS account or A parent can create a second more restricted account for a child.
I don't think iTunes was designed to work in a media center configuration the way you have it.
Bottom line, Having multiple accounts is the way to do what you want.

How to delete just one page in Pages 4.3

Hello I am having an issue with trying to delete just one page out of the 47 pages that I have created.
If I try to delete page 12 it will delete 12-47 instead of just page 12.
I also cant seem to move or adjust the yellow box in thumnails in order to select just one page. It has them all selected.
Another issue is when i try to delete a large text box, which i created to make a frame on my page. It will also delete all the pages after it. So its making it very difficut to make any changes.
I have searched through many forums and havent had any luck by using their methods.

Forget about the page thumbnails.
Let's say that page 12 is in the middle of a section and you want to delete it.
On page 12, in the actual document, not the thumbnails, click somewhere in the first line of text so that the cursor appears. Use the left arrow key to move the cursor until it is just before the first letter on the line. Now, from the Insert menu, insert a Section Break (not a section).
On page 13, do the same thing; i.e. insert a Section Break before the first character.
Now you can go to the thumbnails, click on the Page 12 thumbnail and it will be a section all by itself. Click the Delete key.
(I am sort of assuming that there are no invisible characters before the first one that you see, but if there are, you obviously have to get before them too.)

How to have just one of many stickies open on the desktop?

I have a bunch of stickies. Is it possible to have just one remain open on the desktop, with the others not showing? If not, is there another way to place a short "note" on the desktop and have it remain there until it is deleted? Thanks!

Select the text in the sticky and drag it to the Desktop to create a text clipping (.textClipping). You can then open the clipping by double clicking on it or selecting it and tapping the Spacebar.

How do I set one object to have the exact same propertys of another of its type

Im have a tab layout, and there going to be a main page where u can see four differnt monitors for things. one is a multicolum listbox and the other 3 are just graphs.. since i put these four elements on the same page, they are not as big as they could be, so i want to create 4 other pages, each with one of these objects on them.. but i was them to contain teh same info and propertys (besides size) as the ones on my main page. Things like cursors and cursor positions as well as symbols in the multicolum listbox and plots on my graphs. How should I go about doing this?

I can think of three ways of responding to this Q.
At dev time (quick and dirty)
Get one of the objects the way you want it. Do a ctrl-c to copy it. Select the obeject you want to match-up and to a ctrl-v to replace the original with the prototype.
At dev time (utility required)
I believe there is a utility that was mentioned on Info-LabVIEW and may be available on the Open-G that lets you selct multiple objects and apply settings tall at once. I think it is based on control refnums and prpoerty nodes. I never used, just read about it.
At run time
Get a refnum tth two object you want to match-up and read the properties from the prototype and aply them to the target. Remember that this like active cursor etc will require iterating thru all.

How to publish just one site if you have multiple?

I've searched and nothing seems to be quite covering this question, although I admittedly am not the most patient of searchers...
So, I have about 5 sites in my iWeb. I'm trying to publish *one site* to a folder on the hard drive so I can then use my FTP client to publish to my site. Everytime I've done this (published to a folder), iWeb republishes all of my sites, and some are quite large. Anyway around this or am I missing something? I was considering just deleting my old sites from iWeb, but that seems a bit extreme.

Hi Audrey, Bear in mind that I haven't tried this myself, but anyway: How about setting up a different User Account on your Mac for each site that you want to publish separately? ...You would then login as the particular user for the site you want to work on and iWeb would then operate on its unique Domain file in:
Username/Library/Application Support/iWeb
To divide up your current multi-site Domain, I suppose you would have copy it to the above location for each new user account you set up. Then in iWeb delete the sites you don't want that user to control. (Backup your Domain file somewhere safe before embarking on this.)
Adding a new user account to your computer...
You can create individual user accounts for each person who uses your computer. Each new user has a separate home folder and can adjust his or her own preferences without affecting other users.
1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Accounts.
2. If some settings are dimmed, click the lock icon and type an administrator name and password.
3. Click Add and type the user's name.
4. If you don't want to use the short name generated automatically, type a new short name. (Once the account is created, you won't be able to change the short name.)
5. Type the user's password in the Password and Verify boxes.
6. Type a hint to help the user remember the password if they have trouble remembering it at login.

Well, the problem is simple. I have one Apple Apps account, one iPhone, mine, and an iPod Touch given away to my cousin. Both share the same iTunes library and I've synced in his iPod some of the apps I've bought. The problem is that I don't want my cousin to access less buy Apple apps by himself. I've made him clear that he shouldn't try to access, but he is a rebel boy and insists on accessing and therefore he blocks my account every time he tries guessing my password. How can I remove his iPod Touch authorization to access my account?????

The iTunes account that is available on an iPhone and iPod Touch is transferred to the device via the iTunes sync process - with the iTunes account that iTunes is logged in to when syncing the device with iTunes.
The only way to resolve this and remove your iTunes account from the Touch is restoring the Touch with iTunes as a new Touch followed by not syncing iTunes content with the same iTunes account. Let your rebel cousin fend for himself with his own iTunes account followed by purchasing and downloading his own iTunes content. That way when trying to be a rebel by purchasing iTunes content with someone else's account and not respecting your wishes - especially after giving him this Touch along with free iTunes account purchased with your iTunes account, he needs to learn what consequences can mean when not respecting you and your wishes. Or take the Touch away from him. I believe it sounds like it is time for some tough love.

How to restore *just one iTunes playlist* from Time Machine?

Hi all --
I'm pretty picky about my iTunes playlists. There are several main ones ("Jazz Lite," "R&B," "Jazz Traditional," etc. etc.) and these playlists can overlap in their coverage/share certain songs.
So last Sunday I realized that I had fat-fingered things and had accidentally deleted the R&B playlist.
If possible I'd like to surgically restore *just that R&B playlist* from Time Machine and include it among all of the other existing playlists.
Although I've searched around on the internet for an answer, everything that has turned up so far seems to involve:
- restoring ALL playlists from Time Machine
- older version of iTunes (I'm currently using 11.0.3)

For posterity's sake, since i had this issue too, i thought i'd post my solution.
Locate and save a copy, locally on your computer, of a library.itl file that would contain the playlist you need. I'd suggest saving to your desktop. name it so you'll recognize it as the old library file.
Quit iTunes if open, and relaunch, holding down the Option key immediately after
when prompted, select "Choose Library"
Find the file you saved in step 1. this will launch iTunes with all the old playlists and such. Don't worry, it doesn't touch the actual songs themselves, so nothing is lost of from your current library.
Find the playlist(s) you want, right click on them and export. save them as .txt file (again, suggest desktop for ease)
Once all playlists you want to restore are saved, quit iTunes.
Launch iTunes, again pressing Option immediately after
Select "Choose Library" and select the Music -> iTunes -> iTunes Library.itl file. This will restore iTunes to the most current copy of your library
Select File -> Library -> Import Playlist and find the .txt file for your playlist on your desktop. et voila!
