How to I figure out what generation my iPod touch is?
Its a stupid question, but how do I figure out what generation my iPod Touch is? I know its not the first, but I can't tell if it is a second or third. Can someone help me please?

Here is help for the operating system:
If you are locked to iOS 3 then you have an iPod Touch 1st Gen.
If you are locked to iOS 4 then you have an iPod Touch 2nd Gen.
If you are locked to iOS 5 then you have an iPod Touch 3rd Gen.
If you are locked to iOS 6 then you have an iPod Touch 4th Gen.
If you can get iOS 7 and have an iPhone 5 sized screen [bigger] you have the current iPod Touch 5th Gen.
I assume since it says you have iOS 5.1.1 you have an iPod Touch 3rd Gen.
Also, you may want to sync it so iTunes can tell you or you can look at the model number on the back.

I have an older classic and am not up to date on lots of the differences. I'd like to know for sure what gen it is, how do i find out? And is there really any differences between them (the generations)? I think mine is around 4th or 5th gen but not sure.

Apple put one of these part numbers on the back of every iPod Touch.
iPod Touch 1st generation - A1213
iPod Touch 2nd generation - A1288

I uninstalled and reinstalled but the program still won't open. I was trying to download an mp3 file last evening. Instead the site tried to install a new audio player. Try downloading and installing the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware. Update your MBAM definitions and then run a full scan of the PC. (Takes about 2 hour on my Lenovo.)

One way is to remove all apps and then reinstall a few at a time while watching the "Other" memory indicator, but this will cause a loss of any data the apps are storing, like files, high scores, settings, etc.
I don't know of an 'electronic' way of find this out. -
