How to Import a DTS Package, while keeping version History in Destination Intact

Hi Guys,
Not sure if this is the right forum for my question. But I couldn't find any other DTS forum to post my query.
Basically, I have my Production Environment in SQL 2008R2 and it contains few DTS [NOT SSIS!!!!] packages in Management > Legacy. One of those packages, Let's say is, 'PackageA.dts'.
Now for the PackageA, we have versions of last couple of years (almost 11 versions we have for this package), recently in Test Environment (again, SQL 2008R2) we made Lot of changes to that Package and now we want bring that package from Test Env. to Production.
But a) we prefer not to 'open it in Prod then make all individual changes one by one' rather we just need to kind of overwrite/replace our existing Production Package   b) also, we don't want to loose version  history for the Existing PackageA.dts
in Production, so anytime we can rollback when required.
Any Idea if I can? [Please don't post non relevant answer like, convert DTS to SSIS. Sorry if I sound rude, really will appreciate if some one can try helping me.]
Regards, Avik M.

Hi ArthurZ... "...No deletions, just import, it overrides the prod package" --- Is that the
case? If so, it could have resolved my issue I guess. But that's not happening...
If I don't delete and try to import same named package, I get below error::
TITLE: Object Explorer
DTS Package 'PackageA' already exists with a different ID in this category. (Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server)
Regards, Avik M.
EDIT: Also, I found another Post : dts-package-already-exists-with-different-id-in-this-category which
says, we need to basically delete the existing Package to import same named package. -- Just opposite of what you mentioned ArthurZ. So what's the conclusion?
I need to understand why the same package that I'm bringing from a different server is not just creating a new version if that package name already exists?
Any workaround Microsoft?

  • How to import a tcl package in Java

    Hi,
    I want to convert an existing tcl file into a java source file. In my existing tcl file, some tcl packages have been imported, using the syntax
    package requires XML
    where "XML" is the name of a tcl package.
    But I am not sure how to import this tcl package in my Java code. Also, how can i call tcl procedures from Java code. The tcl package file contains a set of tcl procedures.
    Please let me know that
    1> How can I import/call a tcl package in a Java code.
    2> How can I call a tcl procedure in a Java code. The tcl procedure is contained in the tcl package file.

    I have searched the url provided by you. But I couldn't find anything relevant to my requirements.
    They have basically explained about how to call a Java program from a tcl code using java::call command
    But they haven't provided anything related to importing tcl package files inside java source.
    Please let me know your opinion on this issue.

    I ripped all my CD's to a NAS (.wav). How to import those to iTunes while changing to AAC without loosing references (CD-Title)

    You could try my script ConvertFormat and see if you like the results. Would be easier than inserting the CDs and correcting the tag info again. Just be aware this is a one-way trip. Once you've thrown away some quality to shrink the files you can't get it back without going back to the source. You may better off investing in a bigger drive.
    If you just want to squeeze more on the iPod you can use the built-in iTunes option to convert files to a lower bitrate as they are added to the device.

  • How do I install Snow Leopard while keeping files, applications, and settings

    I need to update my system, I realized that I need Snow Leopard (quiet late) before Maverick. My question is, how can I install it keeping files and all the data. I found this on Internet, does it work?
    Install Snow Leopard while keeping files, applications, and settings
    If you follow these steps, the installer will replace your operating system if one is already present, but will preserve your account information and personal files.  You may have to reinstall some applications, however.
    Insert the install disc (or the first install disc if you have more than one) into your disc drive. Restart your computer while holding down the c key. This causes your computer to start up from the install disc rather than your hard drive. When you see the gray Apple insignia, release c .
    The Mac OS X installer should open automatically. Follow the on-screen prompts to read and accept the license agreement and begin the installation. When prompted to choose a destination disk, select your preferred location and click Install.
    When the Mac OS X installation finishes with the disc, restart your computer. After the installation completes, a configuration program may begin automatically if you are installing for the first time. You will need to supply basic setup information for your computer.
    Update your system software to ensure that you have the most recent operating system components.  From the Apple menu, select Software Update... , and then follow the instructions on the screen. Often, you will have to restart your computer, and you may have to run Software Update multiple times before it can completely update your system.

    That's why you need to back it up. You won't need to restore the backup immediately afterwards unless something goes wrong during the upgrade, but you'll need it later; the drive will eventually fail.

  • N8: How to assign custom SMS tone while keeping it...

    The task is pretty much outlined in the topic title, but I'll still elaborate:
    I want to assign Knock.aac (just a renamed Message 2.aac from my old N73) as a message tone, while keeping it hidden from the music library.
    Hiding it is simple: I just put it to E:\Sounds\Simple and the library cannot see it. But what about assigning it as default tone for messages? When I open it via music player, the only option is to use it as the main ringtone, which is not what I want. When I open the Profile customisation screen and try to find it from there, it's simply nowhere to be found.
    The only workaround I was able to find is putting it in E:\Sounds\Recordings as a .WAV file. This way it can be assigned as a Sound Clip. But I'd like to keep it .AAC or .MP3, and that's not possible in this workaround, because Sound Clips have to be .WAV, otherwise they can't be seen in the list.
    Any ideas how to achieve this task in a civilized way?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    move it back to your gallery,then go to profiles and use the tone then move it back?

  • Upgrade Preparation: How to map applications, DTS packages, SSIS packages and reports to databases

    Hi,
    I am on the initial phase of upgrading SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2012. Right now, I'm taking as much inventory as I can from our current server, SQL Server 2005. If anyone could help me, how can I map the following:
    Map applications to databases
    Map DTS packages to databases
    Map SSIS packages to databases
    Map reports to databases
    Thank you!

    Some questions and suggestions:
    How are we planning to upgrade whether in-place\parallel\others?
    Will this be with HA[Clustered one] or with standalone?
    Do you have time to do actual migration from now on and you will need to setup the environment for end to end testing for application validation so that all differences between application or system variables can be known before actual deployment?
    Also, it will be good to check with Upgrade Advisor for below pointers preparedness too.
    Map applications to databases: If you have already need to setup databases and logins for each and every applications then your mapping to database for applications will be lot  easier and you will have less challenge.

  • How to Run 2012 SSIS packages on 2008R2 Version

    HI Friends,
    I have scheduled a job to run 2012 SSIs packages on 2008R2. I am getting this error can you please Give any ideas how can I run them without converting!
    ERROR Is :
    Package migration from version 6 to version 3 failed with error 0xC001700A "The version number in the package is not valid. The version number cannot be greater than current version number."

    Hello,
    There is backward compatibility in SSIS but no forward compatibility, meaning, when 2008 R2 is developed they were aware of all versions less than 2008 R2 and included execution scenarios , this is backward compatibility
    while 2008 R2 is being developed , 2012 is not yet developed. so we cannot execute a 2012 package on 2008 R2 Server where vice versa is possible
    Correct.
    The "backwards compatibility" is implemented by SSIS upgrading older versions of packages to the current version of SSIS when executing. If the upgrade fails, you're out of luck.

  • How do i customize firefox 5 to keep visits history for 120 days?

    where do i tell firefox 5 to keep visits history for 120 days as we used to do it easily in earlier versions ?

    Till Firefox 3, hidden settings like ''browser.history_expire_days'' were supported that allowed you to control how long the history is maintained. But, for various reasons, these settings are no longer supported. Firefox 4 and above use a heuristic algorithm to decide how long to keep the history items. See this article for more information: [http://blog.bonardo.net/2010/01/20/places-got-async-expiration Places Got Async Expiration].<BR><BR>
    Nevertheless, you can set the value of these hidden settings for some degree of control:
    * ''places.history.expiration.max_pages'': the maximum number of pages that will be retained before expiring.
    * ''places.history.expiration.interval_seconds'': number of seconds between each expiration algorithm run.
    You can change these hidden settings by following these steps:
    # Open a new tab and in the address bar, type '''about:config''' and then press '''Enter'''
    # Click the '''I'll be careful, I promise''' button
    # In the '''Filter''' text box at the top, type '''places.history.expiration.max_pages'''
    # You will be presented with the setting for ''places.history.expiration.max_pages''.
    # Right click on it, select '''Modify''' and enter the desired value.
    # Click '''OK'''.
    # Repeat these steps for ''places.history.expiration.interval_seconds''.
    <BR>Maybe there is an add-on that allows you to configure how long you wish to keep history. Search for it here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/

  • I've moved an internal hard drive with all my music and library files to a new computer --- how can I get itunes to import the whole library while keeping my metadata?

    I've always kept all my music on its own dedicated internal hard drive.  Now I've got a new PC, finally made the switch to Windows 7 from XP, and I've moved my internal hard drive over to the new machine.
    I installed iTunes, but I'm having a heck of a time getting it to import the music and library files, keeping all my playlists and metadata.  Why is this so hard?

    If your New to You Used Mac is froom mid 2012 and originally came with Lion installed on it you will need to Reinstall that version using the Online Internet Recovery system and then at first boot of the new install use the Setup Assistant system to copy over all the data from your wifes old hard drive.
    To access the Online system at startup hold down the Command + Option/alt + r keys and keep them held down until you see a globe on the screen. From the resulting screen that cames up, Mac OS X Utilities, select Disk Utility and then the top most entry for the hard drive, left hand panel, drive model number and size, and then the Partition tab. Repartition the drive as One Partition, You Must do that to get ride of the Mavericks Recovery HD partition which is hidden. Name the partition Macintosh HD with a format of Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
    Once that is done exit disk utility and select Reinstall Mac OS X.

  • How do I uninstall Elements Organizer while keeping Elements.

    Organizer has messed up the alphabetical sorting of my thousands of files even while viewing them with Picasa viewer.
    This is truly unbelievable.
    So far, the thousands of Google hits concerning uninstalling Organizer have returned either asinine replies or Rube Goldberg contraptions.
    I'm a newbie in Elements/Organizer after deciding to go the paid way instead of using GIMP/Picasa and other freebies for I don't know how long..
    What a disapointment! What a let-down!

    You can't uninstall the organizer and keep the editor, but you don't have to use the organizer. Many people don't. Just use file>open in the editor instead.

  • How to uninstall Java (JRE MSI) while keeping Internet Explorer open?

    I have a situation where I need to have the ability to uninstall Java (currently JRE 1.7 Update 75, but could really be any version in the future).  We are using the JRE MSI.  I know how to uninstall it silently just fine, but the gotcha problem comes in that we have thousands of computers and some of them may have IE running during the uninstall.
    Now normally I would just use taskkill.exe to terminate IE ahead of time then run Java uninstall.  However, we are being told for the uninstall, this isn't an option even if we notify the customers about IE closing.  So I'm looking for a command line way to uninstall Java, but allow it to be successfully uninstalled if IE is running (If a reboot is required after the fact, that is fine).
    I have tried several things without success already:
    MSIRESTARTMANAGERCONTROL=Enable (And Disable)
    IEOPEN=1
    IERESTART=1
    In every case, I keep getting a Java Window that reads the below:
    If I choose Later, then it will continue upon the next restart of the computer, which would be fine, except there doesn't seem to be a way to choose this option using the command line or a property??
    I would be even be happy to trick Java into thinking it isn't being used currently even if the browser is open, but I can't seem to figure out how Java knows it is being used or not currently used.
    (FYI, if you install Java while IE is running that is fine, and if you don't close IE after the fact then run the uninstall command right after, it uninstalls fine even though IE is running.  I believe that is the case because the plug-in didn't fully get activated in IE until a close and reopen).
    Any ideas on how this can be accomplished?  Thanks.

  • How NOT to upgrade a package while pacman -Syu

    This may sound confusing, but I am trying to keep my system up to date with the latest software, but I do not want to upgrade one package or else I am 110% sure I will break my system.
    So when I run pacman -Syu, it tells me that I have 4 packages to upgrade, one being the package I do not want to update. So far the only way I found to upgrade my system but still keeping it unbroken is having to manually install all theremaing upgrades using
    pacman -S name_of_packages_that_need_to_be_upgraded.
    which can be a long list (3 in this case), especially if I don't do it for awhile.
    My question is, is there a way to stop pacman from trying to always upgrade the one package I do not want and upgrade all the rest just like its supposed to?
    I have not found a way to do this, but I am not fluent enough with the package manager to know if there is a command for this task. If there isn't such a command, then how hard would it be to add this functionality? I know this kinda goes against the arch way, but so does manually upgrading each package individually. KISS
    Any help would be appreciated and I can clearly understand if this can't be resolved.

    I will add, I put this under the general options part of pacman.conf for anyone who is confused that is reading this. Great tip this one here is. One more question though? would u put multiple packages on one line or would u add a ignorpkg = for every package u don't want upgraded?

  • How to import ADF JS packages inside another javascript

    Hi,
    I need to import the ADF Faces javascript packages inside another javascript,
    to be able, inside this javascript, to access the page components.
    How can I do this ?

    You can't embed one jspx inside other, you need to use jsf page fragments for this.
    Approach 1:
    - Create a page fragment for the second page(second.jsff)
    - Include this in first.jspx page using jsp:inpclude tag as in sample below:
    <!-- first.jspx -->
        <af:document id="d1">
          <af:form id="f1">
            <af:outputText value="First Page"/>
            <af:commandLink text="Include Second" id="includeLink" partialSubmit="true">
              <af:setActionListener from="true" to="#{requestScope.includeSecond}"/>
            </af:commandLink>
            <af:panelGroupLayout visible="#{requestScope.includeSecond eq true}"
                                 partialTriggers="includeLink">
              <jsp:include page="/second.jsff"/>
            </af:panelGroupLayout>
          </af:form>
        </af:document>Approach 2:
    - Create a bounded taskflow with page fragments and drop a view and generate second.jsff for this view
    - Drop this taskflow as region inside first.jspx and set the visible property as given above in sample code to show only on clicking commandImageLink
