How to inherit /usr and make /usr/local read/write

Is there some way where I can make "/usr" a inherit-pkg-dir, and yet make "/usr/local" a read/write directory. I notice a lot of things I compile want to use "/usr/local" to write to, yet I don't want to remove the inherit for /usr, since a lot of packages go into that directory I would like inherited.
One work around I tried was to make a symbolic link in the global from "/usr/local" to /local" on the root, and then create a "/local" directory in the non-global zone. This still caused problems.
So is there any other work arounds or do I have to remove the inherit for "/usr" to make "/usr/local" writeable?

We install all of our large software packages in /opt/<package-version>, and treat them as if they are read-only. There are a few exceptions to this -- there are some vendor supplied packages that can't be configured to write logs/configs/whatever outside of it's base directory. The packages supporting our in house software is called /opt/company.
When it comes to collections of small utilities (awk, fileutils, findutils, etc, etc) we pre-install as much stuff as makes sense with a prefix of /opt/local-<version>, and then distribute this to all of our machines (And subsequently treat it as read only). If we find we missed something that needs to go everywhere, we'll update the /opt/local-<version+1> and change the symlinks to /opt/local. If it's something that just needs to run on a couple machines we'll just make a new /opt/<package-version>.
In the global zone, we make a symlink for /opt/(read/write dir) to go to a /local/opt/. When /opt is mounted read-only on a zone, the symlinks within /opt point to whatever /local/ that is hosted local to the zone. So our /local directory might have /local/opt/company, /local/opt/inflexible-vendor-1.0.2, etc.
So far, we have half a dozen test zones created like this and haven't seen any problems. What kind of issues are you seeing when installing like this? (crossing fingers we haven't missed a Fatal Flaw :-))

At this point you have the option of keeping a device optimized version (lower resolution version) of your photo on your phone while iCloud stores a full resolution version. Or keeping the full resolution version on both your phone and the iCloud. If you delete the photo on your phone it will be deleted on the iCloud. I know, bummer. Also it should be noted that the photos app and the library are still in beta and to this point i see why. I would use dropbox or a smiliar app for off device storage.
So far this is how it has been working/not working for me. Whether or not I choose to keep originals or optimized on my phone it will only keep the originals and it has only been uploading lower resolution versions of my photos to the iCloud library. Seems to be working in reverse.
Again these are still in beta so i am hopeful that this will be fixed in the near future.

ive been struggling with the same thing myself. i was told to rename the drive that my ipod was on ie. F to Z and then reboot and try the restore process in itunes again but make sure your ipod is plugged in the entire time. im about to try this myself. goodluck!

Make my Program read/write to a local file

I'm new to java but I have a workable program. I am trying to make the program read/write to a file. Right now all of my information is stored temp. so when my program crashes all of the info is lost. So if I could have it read/write to a local file then the information wouldn't get lost. Can someone please help me with this?

How to add /usr/local to sparse-root zone ?

I had created sparse-root local zone. The installed some soft and realised that I would need /usr/locain the zone. But I have problem with adding it.

The messages contains all you need:
zoneadm: zone 'z1': Make sure /usr/local exists in the global zone.Just do a "mkdir /usr/local" in global zone and your zone installation will work.
But: Unfortunately you will get into trouble, if you want to install some software packages into /usr/local later.
Installation of Software below an inherited filesystem like /usr is not supported and somewhat impossible. The fact that /usr/local is a mounted filesystem does not count here.

The main transaction you'll use is FBZP. In this transaction you'll configure the payment method and the RFFO* program or PMW format you'll use.
The main RFFO* programs are RFFOBR_V and RFFOBR_D.
If you read the documentation of the programs (se38 -> program name -> documentation) you can see the steps you must perform in order to use the program.
If you're going to use PMW you should check the FEBRABAN_P format.
After doing all the configuration steps you should create a variant for the print program and depending on your business requirements you shoulda add this to the last tab of F110.

Data Doubler - Format for both OSX and Windows 7 to read/write?

Hello! I have a Mid-2012 MacBook Pro 13" and I've ordered the OWC Data Doubler with a 1.5TB HDD to put into the optical bay. I have a couple of questions.
1. What format should I use for the HDD to allow both my OSX and Windows 7 sides read and write to it? I have a Bootcamp partition, but if it's possible I'd like for both OSX and W7 to be able to read and write to this drive. That way, when I'm in OSX I can view iTunes and media, but if I'm in W7 I can still have the same access. That way, I don't have to worry about "Oh, I downloaded this on the windows side ... I have to figure out how to get it over to the mac side" (or vice versa). Essentially allowing the 1.5TB HDD to be a "go between" for the two.
2. This is a minor question, but will the eject button do something to the HDD if it gets pressed when the optical drive is out and the HDD/Data Doubler is in? I don't plan on pressing it, but I was wondering if I need to dig into terminal (or somewhere else) to "disable" the button or maybe just reassign it so that instead of ejecting it does some other function?
I have heard of "MacDrives" for Windows, but I haven't used it. If this is a better option (to put the HDD into Mac OS Extended Journaled and use an application to allow W7 to read/write) that's fine.
I am putting in the 1.5TB HDD. The end goal, if possible, is to allow the Windows 7 side to read/write to it. As long as it's not a "hacked together" method, I do not mind what way it's done.

How to Embed Fonts and make Grayscale in Acrobat Pro 9 PDF

I supplied my printer with a PDF but he says that I need to "Embed The Fonts" in the PDF.
I made the original document in MS WORD and then I created the PDF in Acrobat Pro 9 but nowhere
along the way did I see anything that asked me to Embed The Fonts.
He also says that the type is in RGB but it needs to be in Grayscale.
When I created the PDF I didn't see any option along the way that gave me a choice between
RGB and Grayscale.
Any ideas how to achieve these two effects while going from an MS WORD document to a PDF using
Acrobat Pro 9 please?
Any help would be much appreciated.

so I was pretty upset about not being able to understand that part of your explanation.
Since the printer was able to embed the fonts in a document that was already a PDF then it must be possible
to embed fonts after a PDF has been created, is that correct?
If that is correct then i don't know how I could not find how to do it because I looked everywhere for that

I have a container variable that I want to copy and paste into a custom data type. So I open TestStand's Type window, expand Custom Data Types then right click on <Right click to insert Type> and the Paste option in my popup menu is disabled. How do I get my exact data type there?

Create a container type in the custom data types.
Under that i could copy the container.
