Best way to show you this if from the animation on the printer screen, that will shopw you exactly how to do it.
1. On the unit screen from the main screen press on the Question mark.
2. Press on " Help Topics"
3. Scroll down using the arrows.
4. Press " Replace ink cartridges"

I just purchased an officejet pro 8600 and after following visual setup instructions and plugging the printer in I don't get any further instructions from the control panel nor can I find how to install the ink cartridges in this model (seems the package did not contain all necessary manuals.

There is a document, located here, with steps on how to change the cartridges in an Officejet Pro 8600.
There is even a video with great visuals. Hope this helps!

Ink system failure officejet pro 8600 Plus

Trying to install officejet pro 8600 and the control panel shows "ink system failure" and I can not get past that. Any suggestions

I had a gentleman give me an 8600 Plus printer due to the "INK SYSTEM FAILURE" as he didn't want to spend any money to fix same because he had seen so many other people complaining about the same failure. What do I have to lose so I started taking it apart and what do you know... THE SERVICE STATION WAS SO LOADED UP WITH INK, IT WAS UNABLE TO CYCLE FORE AND AFT. After much work trying to figure out how to get the SERVICDE STATION out without breaking it, I finally managed to free it. I then put the service station in a bucket of warm water and dish detergent and kept running till the water was fairly clean. Upon close inspection of the service station engaging gear,( BEIGE SPLINED GEAR), I feel that all the ink in the well was preventing proper operation of same. Long story short.. "THE PRINTER IS BACK TO FULL OPERATION AND ONLY COST ME A FEW HOURS OF DETERMINATION". Also I have to say I cleaned and lubed the carraige rail along with the ENCODER STRIP and it is working as advertised. Any questions, feel free to email me , [email protected]

HP Instant Ink for HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One

I just purchased a new HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One printer and was setting up HP Connected, etc. I came across HP's new service for ink called HP Instant Ink and was immediately sold. I went to go and sign up and the prompt told me that my printer was no eligible/supported. Now, I am more than willing to pay HP a monthly fee to be a part of this service and I just bought a state-of-the-art printer to do just that.
Thanks to the "Ask HP Experts" forum on printers, I thought this would be the most opportune time to get this addressed. I REALLY want my printer to be eligible in the HP Instank Ink Program and I know you guys can make it happen. I just switched from an Epson and I am really impressed with my new printer; but, if HP added my new printer to the eligibility list for Instank Ink I would be astounded.
Please add the HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One printer to the Instank Ink program, I would totally pay the monthly fee for it. Thank you.

How do I set up my hp officejet pro 8600 to scan to my computer mac OS 10.10.2?

I just want to scan documents to my computer, but every time I try I get an error message that says, "Scan failed The selected folder is not writable"

The right way to do this is to disconnect the printer from the one PC (just unplug the USB cable).
Then connect the printer to your router one of two ways:
1. (Recommended) - plug the printer into the router using an Ethernet cable.
2. Wirelessly - on the front of the printer: Setup > Network > Wireless Setup Wizard. Follow the instructions.
Once the printer is connected to the network, add it to the PCs in this manner:
1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing. Get its IP from a Network Test printed from the front panel of the printer.
2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Devices & Printers.
3. Click the Add a printer
4. Select Local printer
5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's IP address. Click Next.
7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
10. You may be asked to share the printer. Choose NO.
11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
12. Click Finish.

Officejet Pro 8600 Software Will Not Run

I updated my computer to Windows 7 and installed the software for my Officejet Pro 8600. Setting up and connecting the printer was not a problem. When I went to run the program it would not start. I downloaded the 64 bit program and went through the process of uninstalling the old program and installing the new software. And again, printing is no problem but the program still does not run.

1.) Update Adobe. Adobe.
2.) Update Internet Explorer. Download Internet Explorer.
3.) Then try the using the HP software again.

OfficeJet Pro 8600 - no FAX

I have about 10 OfficeJet Pro 8600's deployed for a small/medium business. I will post my questions separately, as I presume this will keep things organized.
Is there a way to install the Software without "FAX-OfficeJet Pro 8600" showing up in the printers list? I do a lot of installs where we don't use fax. Sometimes it will not delete from the printers list. Keeps re-appearing. It confuses and frustrates my users. Thanks.

You can look at the "Customize the installation" section to carry out a custom install that will not install the fax driver. Example, you can use the following to install the software without fax driver on a 32 bit platform:
msiexec.exe /i D:\OJ8600_Basicx86_1315\OJ860x86.msi FAX=NO

On a Mac how to set Officejet Pro 8600 for black ink only printing

How do I set up the Officejet Pro 8600 to print in black ink only (working from a Mac)? The printer was already installed and is functioning.

In the Print dialog box is a Black & White option.
You can also select Black & White printing from the Presets drop-down:

Need to remove my ink cartridge to buy a set backup. How do you remove the old cartridge?

The HP Office Pro 8600 series consists of 3 model variations. I have the Plus version. All functions similiar.
With the power 'ON', grip the side of the front panel (left handed) just below the HP logo. The entire panel will swing down. The ink cartridge bay will move from the right to the left. Push on the cartridge, and it will pop-out.
Manual, see pg 13 and 92. WARNING per HP: Never turn off the printer when ink cartridges are missing.

OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus fried by thunderstorm - how can I removed ink cartridges

A thunderstorm last week fried the power supply of my OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus. The printer is beyond economical repair so I have ordered a new printer.
With no power, the ink cartridge carriage is stuck in the far right position where it is impossible to remove the four relatively new ink cartridges. Ink is not cheap ... would like to be able to salvage the ink cartridges from the disabled printer but cannot figure out how to release the carriage.
Any sugguestions would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear about the Officejet 8600 taking that kind of damage in a storm. Regarding the inks not being accessible, the only thing I can think is to reference the carriage jam support guide.
A 'Carriage Jam' Message Displays on the Printer Control Panel
The only thing I can really offer as a suggestion is try manually moving the carriage over. If it is locked into position and are unable to move the carriage, if you fell comfortable, use a screw driver to "assist" the carriage to move. Since the printer is damaged and you are already planning / have replaced it, it wont hurt it.

Officejet Pro 8600 Plus says ink is empty when it is not

Each time I have to change one cartridge on the Officejet Pro 8600 Plus I check how full the other cartridges are. Typically the yellow one is 75% full and the other colours about 50%.
So I buy and install one cartridge. It doesn't matter if it is a black one or a colour one. I replace it with a genuine HP cartridge. That goes fine and comes up as now being full. But immediatly after this it tells me the other cartridges need to be replaced too. I go through all imaginable fixes (including a hard reset of course) but nothing changes - it still insists that the other cartridges are also empty. Of course it now won't print (unless I want to print in black only).
This means that every time I have to replace one cartridge I end up replacing all four. So now I have a stack of old cartridges that are at least half full but cannot be used - what a waste of money! How did HP design a printer like this?

Understand that you are facing with replacing cartridge even though they still have ink.

Problem description : In Device Manager I've got an error message with the

have uninstalled and re-installed the driver to no effect. The printer

How to print on envelopes C6/C5 with HP OfficeJet Pro 8600

With my printer HP Officejet Pro 8600 I want to print on envelopes C6/C5 (229 mm x 114mm or 9.0 inches x 4.5 inches).
The Officejet Pro 8600 support C5-envelopes and C6-envelopes but I could not find a comparable format C6/C5. Is it possible to make your own envelopes format and print on HP Officejet Pro 8600?

Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you would like to be able to print on C6/C5 envelopes.
I will be happy to help you.
You could install the Deskjet 9800 as a generic driver which you would have different features available to you.
Making custom size prints.
Depending what operating system you are using. Here are the steps for Windows 7.
On the computer, go to start, devices and printers, select add printer.
Follow the steps, select HP and Deskjet 9800 from the list.
Set this one as the default printer.
Try creating a custom size envelope now with the generic driver.
Please let me know if you are not using Windows 7 and you need different steps.
